  • BIKEPACKING BC - NANAIMO TO PENTICTON: PART 11
    -- KVR Kelly Valley Rail Trail, Brookmere to Princeton.
    Follow me on on this multi-part series as I go bikepacking from Nanaimo to Penticton (in a very roundabout way).
    This episode: I ride south along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail. This was one of the original rail lines that snacks through the southern part of BC connecting to other rails like such at the Columbia & Western Rail. This route takes you through the gold/copper-rich areas of the Tulameen River valley and towns like Tulameen itself, and Coalmont. While the scenery was beautiful and there was plenty to camping opportunities along the way, the ongoing rain and dreams of a big juicy steak had me stop in Princeton for a hotel to dry all my gear, charge up batteries, and go find that elusive steak.

      I've been using EpidemicSound on all my trip videos, and while I really enjoy funky tracks, a few videos have lended themselves so more of country feel. These last few episodes I have been using ones with lyrics. I this one the words, and feel perfectly matched the days' ride. I'm also getting a big more involved in sound design. You may not notice, but there is actually 2-4 other sounds tracks running in behind the music, subtle, but there. Although it was wet and threatening clouds throughout the day, there was always some sun somewhere, and in many times, glorious sun showers. It's nice to just soak in life like this. The music resonated with me and the feelings I was having that day. We probably all can admit that we carry too many stressors in life, so why not let the rain wash them away. We're not made of sugar ~ we won't melt.

    Absolutely remarkable trail! Got a question since u said u got soaked over night. What's works for chapped ass an heat rash?

    • @SaltyBeard_Adventures
      @SaltyBeard_Adventures  3 роки тому +1

      I do find that sweat dribbling down one's backside is an issue in the heat... you may not be actually suffering from "heat rash" but rather just blocked pores. All I can tell you is my own routine that seems to keep me clear of problems. Change out of your riding shorts the instant you stop for the day, and put on loose fitting shorts to air out the bits ;) -- I'll sleep in those same loose shorts, or go without to keep everything cool. Have two sets of chamois cycling shorts and rotate them each day. Wash with mild soap regularly if you can. Generally I don't use chamois cream if I keep up with that routine. I also use Preparation H wipes with Aloe, rather than baby wipe - these are anti-bacterial, and keeps swelling down. It also naturally keeps reduces irritation with the Witch Hazel thats in it. Should something crop up (this may sound odd), but using the Prep-H wipes followed by AnusolPlus (sparingly) on any sores will reduce swelling and pain. But like any "saddle" issues, the only cure is a break in cycling. Always keep a close eye for infection. Keep yourself & your shorts clean, change often, and air out overnight. This should help a lot.
