Log Driver's Waltz: Adventure in Ontario & Quebec Part 1
The Log Driver's Waltz is an 800km loop in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, that primarily follows lesser-used roads, dirt tracks, bike paths, and some singletrack. While there is nothing really technical about this ride, it has its own challenges ~ punchy little hills that will force you out of the saddle and make you sweat. You can ride at your leisure (as I did) or with the Grand Depart (race) which happens mid-July.

That's a different kind of bikepacking route! Gorgeous trees in that part of the country.
Yeah, I've been wanting to do it for a while. I used to live in the area and rode many section, but it was nice to piece it all together and discover some new places. It was a nice vacation. Jen & Eric did a great job creating the route. Easy enough for everyone, hard enough if you want to do it fast.
This has been on my list of bikepacking races to do. Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see more.

Really enjoyed this video. Everything is so clear. Having written locations as to where you were, is very insightful. Brings back long stored memories of bicycle touring of 750 miles in Ontario and Quebec from 1975. I had a great time. :)

Awesome video as usual! I'm getting stoked to ride the LDW in a few weeks, hopefully the weather is a bit dryer!!! When you said "I don't think my feet are going to dry out today" that was a flashback to last year's grand depart haha

I really appreciate your editing style. Very clean, never lingering too long, but yet giving as much time as needed. Very clean use of titles. Consistent audio levels. Good choice of supporting music. Came here for the biking, stayed for the editing. I've noticed it in previous videos but for some reason it really stood out to me here.

@@SaltyBeard_Adventures - Editing is no joke. I'd argue it's the hardest part about making any content. ,I don't post videos because editing (let alone telling stories) doesn't work well with my ADHD - this is why I stick to working as part of a crew. 😅

So you went back East from BC to find rain? I am beginning to think you like it! I lived in Ottawa before I moved to BC, started riding there in '71. Mainly the trails around the city, but got up into the Gatineau's too. We had a disastrous BP attempt at Lac Philippe which put me off touring for years. I do wish I had seen more of Ontario.
Funny how that worked out. But I was heading to the Bikepacking Summit, so I had just deal with the weather. I used to live north of Toronto and have ridden much of this area. It was nice to be back, and not in the muggy heat either.
Love the video, editing, comments and background music. Great job portraying Ottawa and some of the local trails. Curious to know what bag you are running on your fork (front right at 3:15). Looking forward to part 2!

I've been testing (for review) a number of saddles lately - that trips was the Reform Tantalus - while pretty good, not quite for me. That said, I'm a big fan of Brooks. And a lot of my bikepacking friends run Selle Anatomica
It looks like a fun, albeit wet, ride. Could you answer this question for me? What is your bike case, and would you buy it again?
It's the EVOC regular case... if I had the money, I would bump to the Pro version. But I don't fly enough to justify the expense.
@@SaltyBeard_Adventures Thanks for the info. I purchased an Orucase, but my gravel bike has integrated routing, which means the fork can't readily be removed. So I am looking for an alternative case.
@@jimmccorison / that shouldn't really a factor on such a trip. There's nothing gnarly and risk of crashing out is very minimal. If you've damaged something that drastic that you need to reroute cables, you've more than likely have bigger issues to worry about and are heading to a bike shop anyway.
@@jimmccorison : but for flying, that could be a different story / post a few message on gravel racing type sights and ask about this. Maybe there's a simple trick to packing bikes with internal routing stems. Try Ted King, Vegan Cyclist... I'm interest now too... I'll do some digging.
@@jimmccorison : quickly looking online there are two methods if you plan to fly alot with a bike that has one-piece bar/stem or fully internal stem/headset routing. A) some can be built with just enough slack to remove the bars and put against the frame / pad it & zip tie to bike or B) you can build the with quick hydro disconnects for brakes. People that have that level of bike are usually running electronic shifting, so Shimano only requires electronic connectors, and SRAM is wireless anyway. If you have a cable, I would assume you'd have to run a new pull cable each rebuild and dial in your shifting again. At least that's what my quick searched turned up.
