It's so strange, I definitely think it's right up your alley.

Let's be real; the goat was the only good looking character. The reason, is that goats are normally supposed to be ugly, so they basically didn't change anything for his character design. Which means that in a world of extremely terrifyingly ugly people, the goat will be the best looking one there. That makes sense, right?
I like how, unlike most critics I watch, he acknowledges the up bringings, like how only 10 people did this, it broke records, etc Thank you for existing 👊🏼😩✨
I'm a Czech-American and I can confirm that like every single kid in the country has seen this movie and it's sequel at some point. The movie is generally perceived as being quite average and no one really likes it (well except maybe my mom). You pointed out how the devil was just there without any explanation which isn't really seen as a flaw by the locals because of our rich fairytale culture characters like fairies, witches, devils etc. Are just universally accepted as actual beings that exists so here it isn't strange at all. The characters and humor may come across as a little out there but that's exactly how Czechs are, quite cold with very edgy humor which in other countries would be considered very, very offensive. The movie has it's charm but doesn't really work for a foreign audience in my opinion as it quite heavily relies on the viewer being knowledgeable about Czech folklore, history and inside jokes. I've tried watching with my dad (he's American) and he said pretty much exactly the same things you did... So you've definitely gotten a point. The sequel is way better in my opinion and I feel like most Czechs would agree with me on that.
Here is some clarification: Girl’s name: Katy Jimmy’s Actual Name (since Saber mispronounced it, but don’t worry I completely understand why): Gemmy (Jehm-E) By the way Katy gets blamed because they all thought she killed Hanes and ruined the clock because she was sitting near his dead body and the broken clock
About the character designs, I believe that is based on the fact that hand-carved wooden puppets are a HUGE part of our culture, a lot of the early movies here, if not being paper cut-outs or drawings, were made with these puppets, since (as you can see with Goat Story), CGI isn't really big here. If you look up czech puppets, I'm sure you can easily see the similarity. A great example of czech film making is Karel Zeman, who afaik is relatively famous in foreign countries. Definitely "czech" that out!

Is there **nothing** 3D animation can't destroy? Czech Republic: has a rich history in 2D animation and stop motion and claymantion the 2000s: BUT WHAT IF PIXAR THO????
I saw this movie when I was 4 and I loved it. I've never met anyone in the Czech Republic who wouldn't like this film. I know it wouldnt be child-friendly in America, but we really don't have time to talk about unimportant things here, and most kids are normal, even though this is on TV, we're just friendlier to "bad" humor. But you're right, this movie isn't really good.
"Imagine if sex and alcohol were present in every American animated feature." ...is it bad I can picture a Lady and the Tramp sex scene set to some Lana Del Rey?

Dont feel bad, it could be worse. Look at Serbia: the only Serbian movie most non-Serbians can name is "A Serbian Film" and that's almost as disturbing as Goat Story.
So, fun fact about AAA Studios: Before the studio was founded, it's founders, Dagmar Doubková and Jan Sarkandr Tománek, created cartoons for "Ústřední Půjčovna Filmů" (Central Film Rental), the government film distribution company in Czechoslovakia before the fall of communism. One of the cartoons they made was "O Parádivé Sally", more commonly refered to by English-speakers as "Clockman". This movie was made by the guys who made Clockman, basically.
*blameitongeorge has joined the chat* george: i cant see how someone who made this bad movie to put it lightly, could make such a manhunt of a cartoon. It baffles me
Here in Brazil I used to watch that movie a lot in school, don't even know where my teacher got it. Fun fact: it's called "Uma Fazenda Maluca" in portuguese something like "Crazy Farm" in english
That makes perfect sense cuz that clock looks almost photorealistic while everything else looks like rotten pork dumplings stuffed with horse dung and maggots. XD
“Devils playing cards with immortal souls, Skeletons drinking at the bar, headless men waking a round town.” Just seems like a normal simpsons episode to ke
Interestingly the devil playing card reminds me of an old fable of Loftus Hall based in Ireland where the a stranger shows up to the house and plays a game of cards with the owners and finds out that it is the devil. When they found out that it was the devil he leaped through the ceiling and left a hole in the roof that legend says to this day That the roof cannot be restored as every time it does the hole is remade
The movie doesn´t explain all those weird things because those are deeply engraved in every Czech. They are a part of our folklore, legends and fairy tales. Even the main story is accurately portraing a very well known legend.
While you might have a point, I think it falls a bit flat when you consider it's also meant for children. Children who haven't had more than a couple years for your legends to actually be ingrained in their minds and understood. Any story should be at least somewhat stand-alone; you should be able to follow along and understand what's going on based on what the film shows you & context clues. That's a very important aspect of film-making.
So... There's a part of Europe that drinks pretty much only beer, one that drinks pretty much only wine and one that drinks vodka. Czech Republic is in the middle of all of that.

@@mateineli209 Goat can't be gae, she a she! Also calling someone a goat means they're dumb and/or foolish. Especially in relation to females it implies they're not good wife material.
I imagine a lot of the "unexplained things" like the furry creature or the headless guard come from Czech folklore, so the animators never felt the need to explain what they were. Kind of like the new Spider Man films skipping over where he got his powers; the audience is expected to already know it. Still, would be nice to learn about these things for us non-Czechs.
YES! That's exactly what I was thinking while watching the video. For example - the devil character is portrayed as stereotypical devil from Czech fairy-tales, sleek rich guy (gamekeeper most of the time), who leads people to exchange their souls for wealth. Then, the skeleton in the bar is a classic Czech joke - A skeleton comes to a bar and says: "A beer and a rag:".(because, you know, the beer is gonna fall through the bones on the ground and he will use the rag to clean it afterwards). Czech kids just know this because they've grown up on old Czech fairy-tales, watched them since early childhood and this film is a mishmash of all that and more. But I agree - the story itself is weird and bad, however we should keep in mind that it is over eleven years old. Source: I'm Czech.
@Elizabeth Luk I read a lot of books, but clearly not the ones relevant to this discussion. Perhaps instead of a boilerplate "read more" statement, you could provide some good examples?
@@mytiliss682 You mean the strange furry thing? If yes, I honestly have no idea, I've never seen it, never heard of it, only in this film. In all fairness the guns are never used, as where cleavage is usually used to give characters more of a sex appeal. Trying to arouse kids is not exactly a great thing.

I think Saber should check out The Little Fox and it’s sequel, A Fox’s Tale, which was made without the agreement of the original creators and apparently spat on the Hungarian animated classic of the original movie. There’s a lot of interesting stuff behind the relationship between these two films that you can find on IMDb 👀
Based on that concept art, I'd say this movie would've looked a lot better if it was traditionally animated instead of computer animated. 'Course that wouldn't've helped the story...
I actually commend the character designs and textures. They have detail beyond other movies with even higher budgets. In a way you can tell how characters smell and they have a certain grime to them, for what that's worth

Let's be real; the goat was the only good looking character. The reason, is that goats are normally supposed to be ugly, so they basically didn't change anything for his character design. Which means that in a world of extremely terrifyingly ugly people, the goat will be the best looking one there.

IT HAS A SEQUEL?!?!
Hold up. There's a sequel?!

What do you mean a normal Simpsons episode? It's just a normal day here in nyc. Although there's a lack of murder seens and pigeon shit.

OH GOD!!!!😂😂😂
