    We have a new video out with the same testing using on the Milwaukee M18 6.0 High Output battery and the RIDGID OCTANE 6.0 battery. Check out if it changes anything. ua-cam.com/video/UzVkIQdyXaE/v-deo.html

      I've run Ridgid tools for years and the larger the battery, the more powerful the tool is. The 6.0 AMP hour battery will make the drill far more powerful than the 3.0 AMP hour battery hands down.

    I have both and to be honest. The ridgid is comically huge compared to the milwaukee. But the price makes the ridgid a clear winner. I can get smart batteries on a hammer drill/ impact kit with a free 1/2" octane impact and a 4.5" octane angle grinder for the same price as an m18 fuel kit for just the drill and impact. That's a huge deal

      Don't understand why everyone complains about the size of the Octane drill/driver. It's not made that way to piss off those consumers with little lady hands, it's powerful af, its not made for hanging up picture frames. So unless you want to break your wrist-like dude keeps trying to do with that Fuel-than you need a sturdy weight distribution

    • @svn5994
      @svn5994 3 роки тому +1

      @@Mik3yLow Because having the same power in a 2" smaller package is better and allows for far better access in tight places. Comments like yours show you are ignorant. Keep using overweight, oversized tools while everyone else uses better tools that are far smaller and lighter with better clutches. "Little sissy hands" my ass. Rigid belongs on the wall to show people how to not design a tool.

      @@Ma77riK ikr that's exactly what I was thinking! People's jaws drop when I tell them My Ryobi drill is just as good as their Milwaukie, Dewalt, and even Rigid drill cause guess what... they are all the same!!! 😂😂😂

    • @l00nybin
      @l00nybin 6 років тому

      @@broken_font1881 they're not exactly all the same. Just because one parent company owns Ryobi, Rigid, and Milwaukee does not mean that they dictate to each company to make them the same. Black&Decker & DeWalt are owned by the same parent company, but the quality between the two is noticeable. Same with TTI: they have certain brands to hit certain price points to appeal to the broadest customer base possible. That will necessitate a difference in either parts quality, options, profit margin, etc., or possibly all of them. I have a Milwaukee hammer drill (2604-20) that just won't quit, but my search for an impact driver has me considering either a Surge bare tool, or spending $50 more and getting a Rigid hammer drill/impact combo that Home Depot has plus 2 extra 4.0Ah batteries. It isn't the hammer drill in this video, but with slightly more torque than my current drill and a lifetime repair/replacement on both tools and the 4 batteries I would have, it's hard to decide!

I can honestly say I wish we stuck with Milwaukee. I hate the ridgid chucks. Always loosing up and dropping bits. Had a bad battery out of the package and had a tool last 1 hour of use and died. Beat the rigid up for a year. Drop it, abuse it, let light rain get on it. Then after a year of that to both tools let me know which tool is working better after all that. My money is on Milwaukee.

    I have DeWalt corded power tools and they are great. In the last 10 years I've been building up my Ridgid collection because of price/performance ratio as well as the Lifetime warranty. While my coworkers ultimately have to buy new tools every 3-5 years due to defects and battery issues outside warranty, I'm still using my Ridgid tools from way back. I'm not saying the other brands are junk, clearly there are some real high quality tools out there but my Ridgid LSA will fix me up every time with nothing out of pocket.

    I have the previous generation Milwaukee fuel hammer drill and it sprained my wrist when a hole saw bound up. The power and durability are beyond what I can imagine any user would need. The clear winner is anyone who owns either of these drills. For improving test results, remove as much human factor as possible. Check out project farm on UA-cam. He did a test with reciprocating saw blades where the saw was attached to a jig with weights. Pressure, weight, angle all stayed relatively equal through all the different tests. I mostly have RIDGID/AEG products and found them rather bulky compared to other brands which has always disappointed me and hoped one day they would also make more compact products ...Here in New Zealand we have AEG and they are not entirely like for like when compared to RIDGID but I am drawn to the orange and grey of the RIDGID even though AEG is orange and black. It was also cheaper to purchase tools from RIDGID/AEG for a full house reno especially when money was at a premium for materials for the house so had to think smart about spending on power tools to get the job done ...and I have to say they done a awesome job

      Exactly my thoughts! 18v i like ridgid just slightly better fpr durability and warranty. But for the smaller 12v stuff i always use milwaukee. I mostly just use my ridgid octane set for big stuff that requires brute force. When im in attics running duct work and flex duct straps though, the m12 milwaukee impact driver is my absolute best friend. I hate having blocky square batteries up in attics with tight crawlspaces. Ive been eyeing the super small newer m12 drill/driver combo too, but ill have to save a bit before i spend even MORE on tools haha.

    Would you say with the ridgid being heavier that it would be more taxing on your forearms and hands at the end of the day?

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  6 років тому

      That would depend on what you are doing with it. In some ways, I would say no, it would not be more taxing because it takes less to hold the drill in place because of the larger size and the longer aux handle giving you more leverage. As you can see in the video, sometimes we are fighting the Milwaukee because it is smaller and harder to hold with all the power. There is no doubt the Milwaukee will fit in smaller spaces and packs a hell of a punch in a small package. We are running 6.0 and 9.0 battery packs on these guys to do what you see. That in itself is heavy. If you are drilling small holes, the Ridgid might be harder to work with all day. If you are pushing the drill with big holes all day, I personally think the Ridgids size would be an advantage.

    👍👍👏👏 Great review on both tools. MILWAUKEE is for the construction worker and RIDGID is for both construction and DIYer. I personally like RIDGID I voted for RIDGID in the other video. I currently only own the Walmart Hyper Tough 18v nicad drill. It's done what I've wanted it to do to an extent. I do plan on buying into the RIDGID line. And watching videos like this really assures me that I'm going to be making the right choice once I buy in the RIDGID line. The only thing I will say is that using the octane battery you should have put it against one of the new high output 6.0 batteries. They are structured to push more power, which is what the octane does. I would have been more interested to see that comparison. That being said, great testing! I have both platforms so I am glad to see which one excels more at specific tasks.

      Agree. We did use the 12.0 once just to see if we could scrape more power out of the drill with the spade bits and we came up with the same results. We feel a 12.0 Ah battery on the drill was silly, so we left it out of the video. Based on a few comments, we should have added it in.

    I would be curious to know if the previous Gen 2 milwaukee hammer drill 2704 would do vs. the new smaller model. They have the same stats 1200in lbs, 2000rpm, 32000 bpm. I wonder if by making the drill so much smaller, the hammer also became smaller. If that is the case then the force that the hammer hits would be smaller. That may be the reason why it lost so badly in the concrete drilling comparison. Something usually has to be compromised when you keep shrinking things in size.

The Milwaukee isn't nearly as loud or aggressive though. Have you experience this with those drills or have any idea why they do that?

    Does Ridgid tool have to be labeled "Octane" in order to use it with Octane battery and get the increased performance? I have Ridgid Gen 5 hammer drill. It's rated at 700 inch lb. If I put Octane battery on it, does the drill have the programming to communicate with battery to achieve improved performance --up to the 1300 inch lb torque that the "Octane" hammer drill is rated at?
