Truth be told I been down the rabbit hole of different brands over the years starting out in the 90s with dewalt in 1994 a dw991k2 well it was shared between me and my father I was 17 my first actual dewalt drill that I 100% purchased was a dw995 which happens to be the first 18 volt cordless drill I just know for what it is it was expensive and batteries were ridiculous for their time and price considering they were Nicad Nicad I've never had Milwaukee at least cordless but when I did it it was before TTI owned them at work I have DeWalt but I don't use it at home I don't have to worry about it it's supplied by the job I choose to use rigid at home at least for my impact driver drill and torch 🔦 my circular saw is a skill brand my jigsaws a vintage Black & Decker I rebuilt was in my family since new
Real Tool Reviews One thing I learned about the Ridgid LSA is if you use it be sure you re-register your tool when you get it back to keep it eligible under the LSA.
If I could, I would give that thing two thumbs-up. The Gen5X system is so impressive. All that performance and quality at a very reasonable price. Great review.
Mike L. Haha nice....I really am impressed with the amount of power and runtime that RIDGID packed into these....definitely upping the bar for brushed tools!
Daniel, please tell ask ridgid to send you their new brushless hammer drill and impact. your reviews are the best, and only you can test them throughly!
Awesome tool! I love the innovative 3 ring LED. Like u said, excellent power and runtime. Im seriously loving all their gen 5 tools, they look top quality but im curious to see what kind of problems will occur out of the gate if any.
John Xiong Thanks! The only "problem" that I have run into is if I push into them way too hard when I start out, they can trip the overload protection (auto shuts off power for a few seconds). As long as you let the tools do the work & dont jamb them into the wood/metal/etc...they work great!
Down shift the transmission when you drilling into steel/metals. You want the torque not the speed for these materials... Plus you wont burn your bits up.
Finally a good review on this tool. I have seen other reviews where they put water on it thrown in the Sand, drive a car over it I mean that’s OK that’s good to see but I would like to see how long batteries will last when your in the real scenario application. That way I would know if I want to buy or not.
Im in need of a new set my van got stolen yhe other week and got it back with no tools! All my milwaukee tools gone! Ridgid might be the best bang for the buck at the moment
I have one of these drills. I like it. But one particular day I was drilling a hole through some wood the drill shut off, maybe because it was too hot or whatever. It was in low gear. I tried to back the drill bit out and as I was doing so, the whole Chuck head Unscrewed. every time I try to drill the bit back out, The Chuck head would unscrew from the drill. I never had this problem with my old 18 V dewalt. This made me think about Ridgid tool line in professional use. Thinking about changing over to Milwaukee which from my understanding still have something to do with ridged.
How easy is it to get warranty on Ridgid battery and parts? Can I walk into a Home Depot and get parts right away like the sales rep usually say or do I have to mail it to an authorized repair facility and wait a month before getting it repaired? I'm trying to decide between the Ridgid x5 5 piece tool set and the Dewalt 20v max 5 piece tool set. They both work out to be the same price. Thanks
Eric Nguyen I was told by Ridgid that any Home Depot with a rental dept can swap batteries on the spot & if you have an issue with your tool, they will ship it off for you. The turn-around time is roughly a week & if you bring it in, you have to bring your tool, charger, and battery so they can test all 3 there to verify the issue. I think it is a cut & dry warranty....just BE SURE to register it when you buy it (online w/your receipt) to qualify for the lifetime service agreement.
Great video and review. I particularly like how you test the battery life of the tools. I think I've made up my mind. I'm going to buy this set...now when will they be in my Home Depot?! I went by my local store yesterday and they didn't have a clue as to when they might come in other than "Spring 2015". I guess that means March 20 or so. Thanks for the review!
If you had to choose between this kit and the offerings from Milwaukee FUEL lineup, which would you go for? I was planning on getting the Impact Driver/Hammer Drill combo from Milwaukee but this has me reconsidering.
Jared Shaffer It would boil down to cost I would think. These can do pretty much everything a FUEL tool can do, except for the speed & run-times. The entire set with 5 tools, 2 batteries, and charger is $499.....one FUEL tool can be upwards of $300+/each (even bare tools are in the $150-200/each range).
I just got the Milwaukee Fuel line, and I have to say these less expensive lines from TTI are really impressive. (Rigid & Roybi & Milwaukee are all owned by TTI) with that said, every time I pick up anyone of my Fuel tools it provides everything I could possibly expect and more. Even the M12 fuel line surprises me every time I grab one of those. They are all great tools I am sure, but look at the variety of what they offer and what you need- I mean want!
Real Tool Reviews Brushless cost LESS to make, not more than brushed power tools. True, they charge more for the new tech (its not new at all, its been around for a decade in select power tools/drills - you should know that!) But fair enough, it might have cost more and true the LTSA is a +1 for sure! No doubting that, but will they still be in biz in even 5 years and be honouring the offer??
Steve Hardy Well, keep in mind R&D costs....assuming it costs less (materials) to make brushless, they still have to re-coup the costs of developing/patents/etc....which is why they charge more. If in fact it was cheaper across the board, they would scrap the brushed models & only sell brushless. As far as the LTSA....it is only valid IF you register within 90 days....most people dont think about it until/unless they have an issue --- so they are not covered. Follow their simple rules & these should last a very long time.
This video convinced me to buy the Ridgid kit! Im a rough plumber, and today I got use every single tool on this kit. For every 1-1/2", and 2" holes, I used this drill on the full torque setting, and my god is this thing a monster! It was able to drill both plates and fire blocks with EASE, even hole saws to get through some nails. But I still had to bring out Milwaukee's Hole Hawg for 3 inch holes since I have to to drill both plates and the rim joist. FML right.. The only thing missing is an angle grinder! I had to hang pipes with all thread, so I had to bring out a corded grinder. More cords and pigtails and y splitters! Ive heard the 4th gen grinder absolutely drains the battery within minutes of use, thats horrible. Any one know when Ridgid will release a 5th gen grinder?? Or if they ever will?! Thanks. really needing one.
ThatDudeEddiee0 Thanks! I am glad that I could help.....It is good to hear that you like the Gen5X kit. As far as an angle grinder, I dont know when the Gen4 will be replaced with a Gen5X version....but I do know that all the Gen4 tools are going to be phased out & replaced (eventually) with Gen5X versions. If I had to guess, I would say a 6-12 month time-frame. What size all thread do you cut typically?
ikonik69 They are Rennsteig Automatic Center Punches (I was using the middle sized one). I did a full review on them, check it out if you have time! Thanks for commenting!
Israel Hernandez I was told March/April 2015.....I think they are probably waiting on shipments like everyone else because of the dock strikes at the California ports.....everything is delayed because of that.
In the future the runtime/performance tests should be standardized and comparison charts could be added between different drills. Milwaukee, Makita, Ridgid, Dewalt.
ZombifiedPyro The problem with that would be, the VERY powerful tools would make all the others look weak....when in fact, they just arent designed to do the same things as the others. For example, the Makita XPH07 Drill (1,090 in-lbs) is the king of the hill....the Bosch DDB181 is an entry level homeowner drill.....not remotely in the same class, although they are both 18v. When the specs are similar, I do similar testing (i.e. --- Milwaukee 2763 VS IR W7150 impacts).
Real Tool Reviews You could perhaps do different classes of tools, ex. m12 drill, m18 compact drill, m18 full size drill, and m18 hammer drill would be different classes. Similar testing helps comparison, but for a true comparison the variables need to be eliminated. So different drill bits or 2x4s vs 4v4s all make it harder to see which is better for which applications. The comparison reviews (2763 vs W7150) are much more helpful, IMO, than watching two different videos and try and figure out what is different and compare on my own. (What I did watching several channels videos comparing dewalt, makita, and milwaukee tools) As for the powerful tools making the homeowner ones look weak, I do not see a problem in that. They are weak in comparison, but someone looking for a drill or impact to change wheels on their car or hang pictures needs to look at price vs performance. So if the high-end one drills 50 holes on a battery, and the low-end one drills 25 holes on a battery, but the consumer only needs to make 25 holes, the low-end drill would be perfect for him/her, getting the job done and saving money. I know many people that say they need an 18v drill, but do not know that the difference between homeowner and professional grade still exists between 18v drills.
ZombifiedPyro I guess if I end up making a drill series or something, I could do more standardized testing depending on the class. I do not really review that many drills (I think maybe 5 total including the Hole Hawg), but I do understand your point. As far as comparison videos (like the 2763 vs W7150), I agree that the testing needs to be as consistent as possible....so the viewer can get an accurate representation of the power. However, many of these tools (i.e. - the drills that I have reviewed) are not in direct competition with each other like the two impacts above....so I dont really think that people would be searching for comparisons between them. If I end up reviewing the new Hilti SF 10W-A10 drill, that WOULD be in direct competition with the Makita XPH07, so a direct comparison would be helpful. Thanks for the suggestions!
Real Tool Reviews The hilti is a much closer competitor to the makita, but the milwaukee 2604 and dewalt DCD995M2 are the top of the line hammer drill from each manufacturer. IMO they are all competing for the best hammer drill. I was just using drills for an example as almost any tool could follow a similar format for direct comparison.
Awesome review once again, I just wished My Milwaukee m18 fuel hammer drill had that led ring that the rigid has and that the m18 impact drill would have the Dewalt 3 led lights That would be in a perfect world but again thanks again for the awesome review!!!!
That light on the drill looks futuristic lol. I've been wondering when a company would have a lighted chuck. The rigid hammer drill is very impressive especially not being brushless.
Hi. I recently purchased the Gen5x package. I recently just started using the hammer drill and noticed it gets very hot very quickly. This never happened with X4 hammer drill. I know brushed motors tend to warm up which is a problem people don't have with brushless. I was wondering if this happened at any time during your usage of the Gen5x hammer drill? Thank you very much for your time.
mesa620 With the extreme runtime testing that I do with all battery powered tools, they almost always feel pretty hot when I am done. I dont remember this being an exception, but it did not overheat or shut off on me. Also, in my experience it is the brushless motors that heat up more ---- in fact the brushless tools are the ones that overheat and shut off until the batteries/tool cools back down the most often. I would imagine that your drill is fine, and unless it started smoking I would not be concerned. Be sure to register it for the Lifetime Service Agreement within 90 days of purchase, or you will only have a standard 3yr warranty!!
Hahaha....those were some $40 junk snow boots from Tractor Supply....lasted about 2 weeks before they split along the seam & I had to duct-tape them back together.....thats quality....
I want to get this Ridgid hammer drill in a brushless with the Same Led Chuck edit to this comment chuck does not light up on that model but does have a led light on the bottom
You aren't the only one in the world by far but the word is masonry, not mason ary. A hammer drill works by literally hammering the drill chuck causing the drill to bust through the masonRY as well as then drilling out the dust. Do not use the hammer function when driving a Tapcon as you are busting through the threads the Tapcon is trying to cut. I just bought the brushless version because of the LSA. However, the battery that came with the drill is covered under the LSA but if you buy batteries separately they are not. Batteries bought separately from the initially purchased battery included in a kit are not covered forever, only three years. Good overall review.
from what i can tell its a drill that comes with a bit driver that you put on top of it designed for anchors so you can drill holes and fasten the anchors with only the hammer drill. So yo don't need a screwdriver for the anchors
Валера Внезапный It is a special bit/adapter that allow you to drill a hole, and install a screw without removing anything from the chuck. Here it is --- www.tapcon.com/system
russhellmy Inch-lbs is the torque rating system that almost all manufacturers go by.....I dont try an re-invent the wheel.....I try and use terms that everyone is familiar with. Thanks for commenting!
" Inch-lbs is the torque rating system that almost all manufacturers go by" that was exactly my point. in-lbs is a Torque rating not a Power rating. Torque and Power are completely different properties. Yet you kept wrongly referring to in-lbs as the Power of the drill. Cheers
For all my projects and have all that done this drill is the best for me ... and the best in the market.
I so love the led ring!!! Should be standard
Djthunder PSN 100% agree! :)
I have the gen 5 brushless hammer drill but my led is on the bottom.
good review Sir! tool guy been watching your video about tools and loving them ever since then!
Dude, they got me with the free batteries for life. Dewalt kills you when it comes to battery prices.
Truth be told I been down the rabbit hole of different brands over the years starting out in the 90s with dewalt in 1994 a dw991k2 well it was shared between me and my father I was 17 my first actual dewalt drill that I 100% purchased was a dw995 which happens to be the first 18 volt cordless drill I just know for what it is it was expensive and batteries were ridiculous for their time and price considering they were Nicad Nicad I've never had Milwaukee at least cordless but when I did it it was before TTI owned them at work I have DeWalt but I don't use it at home I don't have to worry about it it's supplied by the job I choose to use rigid at home at least for my impact driver drill and torch 🔦 my circular saw is a skill brand my jigsaws a vintage Black & Decker I rebuilt was in my family since new
Interesting led concept. Kudos to the design team. I would love to see a tear down video on that chuck to see how that led ring works.
Craig T If I had any clue of how to put it back together I would think about it ;)
Thanks for the great vid man.. just pick up the impact and saving $ now for the drill!!
I really like the lighted chuck. Finally no shadows with a drill. Great video.
Love2boat92 Thanks! Yeah that was pretty cool to see that it actually worked & wasnt just for looks! :)
Real Tool Reviews No problem. Haha yeah. I wonder what happens when the chuck goes bad.
Love2boat92 You contact them for the Lifetime service agreement & get the parts or have them fix it.....for FREE! ;)
Real Tool Reviews I've heard about that before but how can a company do that and stay profitable?
Real Tool Reviews One thing I learned about the Ridgid LSA is if you use it be sure you re-register your tool when you get it back to keep it eligible under the LSA.
This channel is awesome. So much better than the other tool review channel I was subbed to.
djinfinity09 Thanks! I try and make the best reviews that I can....I am glad you like them :)
Ty for video, just bought a full set that was on sale for 299 at Home Depot.
I cant wait to get my hands on one of these and the new impact. Can you imagine the power and runtime it would have if it were brushless? Outstanding.
Jason Michael Can you imagine the price jump? I am glad they went this route & kept it all very affordable! :)
If I could, I would give that thing two thumbs-up. The Gen5X system is so impressive. All that performance and quality at a very reasonable price. Great review.
Mike L. Haha nice....I really am impressed with the amount of power and runtime that RIDGID packed into these....definitely upping the bar for brushed tools!
excellent review as always bud. I love the lifetime warranty, not to long ago I had one of my RIDGID batteries warrantied at HD with no issues.
Emin HVAC Thanks Emin! I am glad to hear that they swapped the batteries without any issues!
Emin HVAC same with a 4.0ah of a combo kit I. Got great customer service from ridgid got my new battery in a few days so ridgid rocks

Great review as always. Very impressed with rigid on this kit.
poisonfangs85 Thanks!
Good luck trying to get one of these!
This is still the best drill ever
I do like the lighted chuck 👍
Great video, love the light ring. Looks like Ridgid did a good job on the Gen5X tools.
Russ Webster Thanks Russ! I agree....the Gen5X lineup really has impressed me...definitely a nice set of tools across the board.

I've so waited for new rigid and AEG tools . I don't know where is the AEG news and comming up
I just purchased their whole set, I will never buy anything but ridged ever again.
goonzsquad1 has mine 2 years strong LSA don’t regret it
What a great drill!
Im in need of a new set my van got stolen yhe other week and got it back with no tools! All my milwaukee tools gone! Ridgid might be the best bang for the buck at the moment
fromfattofit206 Oh that sucks! Even your new Hole Hawg?
Real Tool Reviews
Yeah man everything. I bought milwaukeel non fuel set for the time being.

A big kabooom for Ridgid
?
Great drill i have the x4 set, love them.
Steve Merritt Nice! Awesome Steve!
Much better drill than their newer, weaker and less-featured brushless drill
Wondering about vibration I have Milwaukee 2604 and the vibration is real good to my other drills
OFFROAD2019 I didnt really pick up on any extra vibrations with it.....seemed fine to me.
Just got the genx5 combo impact and driver. Different light on the hammer drill. Where did you get the ridgid drill bit and driver bit set?
Another fantastic review video!! Thank you
Joey Segreti I am glad that you liked it! Thanks Joey!

Eric Nguyen I was told by Ridgid that any Home Depot with a rental dept can swap batteries on the spot & if you have an issue with your tool, they will ship it off for you. The turn-around time is roughly a week & if you bring it in, you have to bring your tool, charger, and battery so they can test all 3 there to verify the issue. patdud1979 Thanks! :)
Have you done a review on the rigid cordless rotary hammer drill?
I got to get me one of these
Daniel, what brand and model of automatic center punch did you use to drill that metal?
Any review of the Cordless Ridgid SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill coming soon?
Nice review they kick ass
Eric DuPlantier Haha :) I agree!
I sure could use some new tools, like a nice HammerDrill.
Donald Johnson Lucky for you these are finally at the Home Depot in store now :)
Just wish it was brushless, imagine how good it would have been then!
Steve Hardy Imagine how much more it would have cost......I think they are pretty close to brushless power levels with the Gen5X lineup.

wow I bout a makita 2 pec set last year and now I wish I would of bout the rigid lol
and he did even mention the warranty
where did you get the adapter for the masonary bit and screw adapter ?
So what grade would this be on? Consumer Light Duty , mid grade, or contractor heavy duty.
Just from watching this video it looks like a professional grade
do the Gen4X and Gen5X use the same battery pack ??? Great review
dexter taylor Thanks! And yes they do.
nice video
What kind of punch you used to mark that metal piece before you demonstrated drilling into metal ?
ikonik69 They are Rennsteig Automatic Center Punches (I was using the middle sized one). I did a full review on them, check it out if you have time! Thanks for commenting!
I was just wondering If maybe you know what the price of the kit or just a guess
OFFROAD2019 I was told $499 for the whole kit.

Have you tried it out with a 2 9/16 self feed bit?
Cody Robertson My 2-9/16 bit was dull, so that is why I went with a different size (new).
Is this brushless?
Awesome review once again,
I just wished My Milwaukee m18 fuel hammer drill had that led ring that the rigid has and that the m18 impact drill would have the Dewalt 3 led lights
That would be in a perfect world but again thanks again for the awesome review!!!!
Cristian Lara Thanks! Yeah they hit home runs with the LED light placement on the drill & impact driver! :)
Is it a metal chuck
How much does it weight with battery? I cant find it anywhere online.
Tim Slininger I would say in the 5-6 lb range. Like any standard full size cordless drill.

Jordan Booth Yeah they are really pumping the power out of this drill....it is quite impressive for a brushed tool :)

Real Tool Reviews ok. Great. Thanks for the response.
Como le quito la broca a uno :c

Troy Fairweather It is definitely a unique look! ;)

Please get some sound deadening panels or something in your shop, sounds lime you're screaming through a tunnel.
This was long before we got wireless mics....it’s much better now 😉
What boots are those?
Hahaha....those were some $40 junk snow boots from Tractor Supply....lasted about 2 weeks before they split along the seam & I had to duct-tape them back together.....thats quality....
Could you test some grizzly tools?
I want to get this Ridgid hammer drill in a brushless with the Same Led Chuck edit to this comment chuck does not light up on that model but does have a led light on the bottom
Thomas Carroll there is one now the new brushless octane hammer drill has the same church in a brushless model
It is brushless
You aren't the only one in the world by far but the word is masonry, not mason ary. A hammer drill works by literally hammering the drill chuck causing the drill to bust through the masonRY as well as then drilling out the dust. Do not use the hammer function when driving a Tapcon as you are busting through the threads the Tapcon is trying to cut. I just bought the brushless version because of the LSA. However, the battery that came with the drill is covered under the LSA but if you buy batteries separately they are not. Batteries bought separately from the initially purchased battery included in a kit are not covered forever, only three years. Good overall review.
The drill bit breaker 3000
Joseph Hawkins Haha....I dont know about breaker....that would be more of "operator error".
10:32 what is that?
from what i can tell its a drill that comes with a bit driver that you put on top of it designed for anchors so you can drill holes and fasten the anchors with only the hammer drill. So yo don't need a screwdriver for the anchors
Валера Внезапный It is a special bit/adapter that allow you to drill a hole, and install a screw without removing anything from the chuck. Here it is --- www.tapcon.com/system

CORRECTION - BRUSHLESS MOTOR.
Nope....this one came in the 5-pc Kit & has a brushed motor.
🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒😊
It's "masonry" not "masonary"
You need to add a period on the end of your criticism.
Not to be rude but you are a damned yankee and we pronounce it masonary down here on the south
OK review, but "inlbs" is TORQUE not power.
russhellmy Inch-lbs is the torque rating system that almost all manufacturers go by.....I dont try an re-invent the wheel.....I try and use terms that everyone is familiar with.
Cheers
Try using it on 2 or 3 studs...meaning 4.5" of wood...it stalls out every single time....thing sucks...makita n milwaukee are better...way better...
