yeah but ktm still haves a lot of faulty parts .I had it,bought it new. 2000km thermostat got stuck closed and the bike went from mid level temps to high temps in matter of the seconds i needed to pull on the side safely.
4000 km the alternator was doing a weird noise and the valves needed clearance service(that needed almost 2 weeks for parts to arrive).
It was an awesome fun bike that i took so much care of and betrayed me twice.
I met other people in the service store (official) and had problems with their 690s, the rc390...
Its fun and all but after haveing a bike that spent whole month in the store in the matter of 6 months of ownership i call it BS (iam not BSing i have videos photos and the whole chat with the dealer as a proof xD)

Both have good points. The KTMs are still as KTM as ever, lots of maintenance, not up to snuff with the Japanese. Their big bikes they built in Austria are great, the smaller ones built in India LOOK great, but won't last like other bikes or will cost more to get there. HD on the otherhand is pretty bulletproof, easy to fix and is very high quality. They are overpriced even for what they are, but really great motorcycles to ride. Ride a metric cruiser sometime it will change how you think of motorcycles. I wouldn't buy a Harley for the price, but I've rented a few and they are great to ride.

I've put 1k miles on my 390 duke so here's my perspective- Couldnt have picked a cooler bike in the entry-level small displacement range. Lots of people complain about reliability issues but I've heard the newer dukes have a better cooling system and I've had no problems with mine in 7 months. I am 6' 150 lbs, this bike feels SMALL for me! You really will feel tiny next to other cars in traffic. That's not really a bad thing though, as it handles extremely well and can turn on a dime. Light weight makes it easy to keep upright during parking lot maneuvers. This bike is perfect for beginners in general, due to its forgiving nature. You can make noob mistakes and not yeet yourself into the next dimension. I botched a downshift in the cold with bulky gloves once and only got a slight scare- if there was more power on hand, I may have hurt myself. Engine performance is great, lots of low end torque due to the 1 large cylinder. However, this also means it's less smooth through town. It bucks and whines for more throttle at 20-30 mph. Im gonna throw in a K&N filter and the coober airbox flow lid to try to remedy this.
On top of all of that, the aesthetic is killer (one you swap out the stock mirrors and fender). I dare you to find me a sexier, flashier bike for under 6k new.

    • @Hobinator17

Good video, Thanks. As someone thinking of selling my Vespa 250ie because new job requires me to ride half way on the freeway. I can't believe that in Australia, if anyone wants to buy a new Duke you can only buy the Duke 200 for $5k AUD ride away, the 390 for $7.5k ride away, then the next one above that is the Duke 890 (which pricing available for the 2020 model is) at $18.5k AUD ride away. That is a huge jump! Come on KTM... you could at least given us the 690 here, but for me it would not be as nimble (for a 5.7' person and 75kg). As a person who really likes Duke 390 for its small and nimble nature, I love this machine as it will be easy to commute around tight city streets, slip through traffic, and ride it on the freeway to work everyday, I really wish KTM had offered a 490 also. That extra 100cc little bit more would have been perfection.

Still MAF about my Duke 390. I bought a brand new 2016 Duke 390 in 2016 and it lasted me about 8 months before critical failure. I had about 8k miles on it and had followed the break in maint schedule. When I was coming back from a Hill country trip, I noticed the bike was overheating very badly, and I lost most of my power. I limped the bike home, which took forever, and then I had it delivered to the shop that I bought it at. I asked them to put on a new rear tire, perform the next maintenance, and see what was going on with the engine. I told them the symptoms and whatnot and they said they'd check it out. I came back 2 weeks later, after they said that they had finished working on the bike. I think I paid just over 400 bucks which didn't sound too bad at the time. I asked them about the overheating issue, and they said that they took care of it, and it wasn't a big deal. When I took it out on the road, the overheat light came on in less than 2 miles. I took the bike back to the dealer, and they basically told me they can work on it for a higher than usual rate, but that this was not going to be covered under warranty. I wound up trading to get out of it.
