This video makes it clear that Christine Lakeland provided the spark and inspiration that kept JJ Cale writing and performing music. It's fun to watch how she was lifting his mood with her expressions throughout this song.
The most underrated and underappreciated songwriter/guitarist to ever come out of the US of A. It's a shame many don't know that Cocaine, After Midnight , Call me the Breeze etc.. were written by this Okie genius. Mark Knopfler practically copies his guitar style
That was by design. J. J. Cale hated the spotlight and thrived in obscurity cashing his royalty checks. He was easily the greatest singer/songwriter of our time.
Thanks so much for posting! Plus this video just answered a long simmering question of mine. I saw JJ in SF in the early 1980's I think. Robin Williams was the opening act! JJ mostly stood behind a curtain and played while a young woman was front and center! Hey! We paid to see JJ Cale! And now the mystery is solved! It was her!!!
True. The business of having singers "share a mic" is a silly convention, IMHO. Give each singer a microphone! It's not like we're recording on 4-track these days...
Dorothy and Dave from down below should get a room. It just might be Christine isn't the lead singer and that is why she is so far away from the mic. So as for D and D thinking Christine has been what ?? so wronged by how her vocals are sorta background / backup to J.J.'s lead singing is beyond me.
So sweet,Chris & J.J.That smile,you should not have left John!Love u both,cheers from amsterdam,Koos

I can't stop watching these 2. After seeing this video I searched for more of them together! She always has his back!
Incredible -- these two clearly lived a life together

Don't think Christine got enough credit for her guitar skills

They are in crazy love
Thank you
My Old Buddy Jimmy on Tamborine.
Thank you!
You're welcome
Willie and JJ seem to be brothers from another mother at times.
This man is a god !
Wow, Terry Pratchett on keys? Or was it the Amazing Randi? Good either way!
They're probably trying to make people happy in a country gone to greed.
Christine's voice is nearly inaudible on this track, which is a pity.
