    I’ve had mine since 2017 and the only thing that I did was upgrade the wheel hexes to aluminum because I was noticing wear and twisting from the 8S power. Since then, it’s crazy durable and I take this thing to the skate park and jump it off half pipes while doing multiple flips in the air. Only parts I’ve ever broken were from a wreck and I think the total cost for replacement parts was $12 total. The XMaxx is the ultimate basher and if left alone and maintained properly it’ll last an incredibly long time and give hours of enjoyment to whoever owns one.

      You are absolutely right they really do grip I built a RC track in the backyard I was trying to kill the grass with Roundup but then me and my friends we started running our xmax on the track and it tore that grass all to pieces.. I'm 50 years old been had my xmax about 6 months now it is soooo much fun!!! The way this thing corners is unreal!! Please be careful around little kids I hit a little kid with my rustler and everybody laugh my cousin hit a kid with his xmax and it was a visit to the ER so have fun but be careful. A rc this big and this fast can be DANGEROUS!!! I love it though!!!!

    I have left mine stock except a few tiny things. Bigger hub carriers, and threaded hinge pins. I never broke the factory anything, but the bearing seals popped off a few times and the bigger ones just seemed like a great idea. I am very happy with my xmaxx!

    I applied for a job at Six Flags this summer and plan on buying this RC once I start working. I've been doing research for a few weeks now, and it looks like the only thing people say is to upgrade the stock rear hub carriers to the RPM rear hub carriers as the bearings will fall out easily on the stock ones (they also say that the CEN threaded hinge pins are a good upgrade as well), so I might upgrade those to thing immediately right out of the box! Other than that, I'll leave everything stock and won't upgrade until something breaks, which seems like it's pretty difficult to do as the stock X-MAXX is pretty strong on its own!

    Great video man!! I've got the Badlands and haven't experienced the same things your describing and showing in the video. I enjoy them because when I had my stock tires, I almost had them worn out around the outside due to the power slide turn around on the streets. I can still do this with the Badlands without flipping the truck and with as often as I do it the Badlands are holding up great!! I think you're used to driving it a certain way and now that you have made a change to the way it handles in your backyard you feel as though it's the tires and not the way you drive. Your just used to a certain result and with new tires it changes those results.

    I just got an XMaxx and did a lot of research before purchasing. I had seen a lot of people online having issues with the rear hub carriers and getting the RPM ones, so I did go that direction right off the bat. I did add some weight to the body with the goop and drywall tape. I also opted for the skid plate on the top.
    I ended up (with heat) gorilla taping the tires because they kept ballooning and coming unglued; one even exploded. I repaired the exploded tire with CA glue from the outside and really thin, scuffed bicycle inner tube with goop from the inside. I almost went down the upgrade rabbit hole myself until I saw how much the badlands weigh (and cost). After taping the tires no longer balloon. Speaking of balloons, I did wrap from the end links to the shock bodies with balloons, under the spring. This is better than shock socks because it actually seals the shafts from even the slightest chance of dirt getting in there and ruining seals.
    I consider this to be essentially stock with some reinforcements.

    • @Dingle-Berries
      @Dingle-Berries Рік тому

      Use 20lb fishing line for helping to stop ballooning. Also do the silicone ear plugs in front & rear differentials- i have no issues after doing that

    • @appye7994
      @appye7994 Рік тому

      @@Dingle-Berries wow that was a while ago. This x-maxx has been through hell and back. it keeps on going. Very little time spent on the workbench. I did go with a higher weight (500k? 1m? I don't remember for sure) in the front and rear diffs and it crawls okay. I did build a super crawler and holy crap that thing crawls!
      I also did all kinds of antibalooning tricks including fishing line both inside and outside of the tires. It worked well enough for a year or so, but I ended up getting belted tires. If I remember right, the advertised weight was very negligible compared to other brands. Again, this was a while ago. I can look for specifics if you are interested.
      Lol, it always interests me to see how some communities are relatively troll-free, with far fewer people being butt hurt by differing points of view, compared to communities related to some of my other hobbies. Drone, video game and photography communities can be really congested with know-it-all negativity. Automotive, airgun and ebike communities are generally pretty friendly ... I'm brand new to 3d printing, we'll see how that goes!

    I actually like ballooning tires. Aids in rotation in air and looks awesome. Not like belted tires will allow an xmaxx to make high speed maneuvers anyways. But I kept tearing stock 8s tires so went to duratrax lockups.
    I also went max 5 and leopard 5892 motor. Mostly because I wanted more rotation in the air. The xmaxx actually handles big power pretty well and they extra power and weight really hasn't lead to extra breakage.
    I do agree proline 4.3 tires are way too heavy and lead to breakage though. Funny how unsprung mass breaks everything but all the sprung mass I added haven't really effected the durability.

    Great video… I was at the Rose Bowl yesterday for the 4th of July Firework Show and my buddies had X-Maxx trucks making my Slash look Iike a toy.
    They had all the upgrades available including the Badland wheels and tires and they were popping suspension pins every 10 minutes. The pins were easy to replace, but still a drag to be constantly breaking down as people are watching and always be repairing the truck.
    I’m buying my own X-Maxx truck soon and I’ll will only be upgrading the body shell.
    Awesome advice and explanation for leaving the truck stock… thank you!!!

    I'm a stocker too man!
    - I have only upgraded the rear carriers to RPM (bearing seals popped out of stock bearings), CEN hinge pins on the 4 outer corners (after breaking front left arm), and Traxxas black servo. Also sealed up stock wheel holes and vented tires to keep foams from getting destroyed by sand and water.
    - I have worn out my outdrives and the center diff shims (started popping internal gears) and replaced stock motor with a new stock motor due to front motor bearing going out (my fault for not servicing the motor bearings) since February 2017!
    - Longest running RC, on a single set of batteries, of any I have owned (the Maxx is right up there with it now).
    - This is one tough truck!

    I firmly believe that if you want to go faster etc for example, just run another car out of your collection that is better suited for higher speeds. If you take some of the cheaper cars around they will do say 30-35 mph, if you upgrade the same car with massive power to do 60mph. It wont last long before you start constantly breaking parts or huge crashes. Again leave that car pretty much stock & run it within its limits with out breaking it constantly, then swap to a more suitable car that is built to run consistently at the higher speed without breaking it or crashing it every time its run. I think minor upgrades are good to improve durability on some vulnerable parts are ok, but to spend fortunes upgrading a car seems crazy. Especially when you know you are pushing something beyond its capable limits.

    Great vid, as always! I don't think though, that the stock servo is too weak, I think the spring in the servo saver is too soft. I upgraded to the heavy duty X-Maxx servo from Traxxas (2085X). It also ships with a harder spring for the servo saver. This made a huge difference in the handling of that beast. I also upgraded to the threaded hinge pins from RPM and the Oversized Rear Axle Carriers. They come with much bigger bearings (RPM 81732). These are all the upgrades the X-Maxx needs imho. Gotta love that RC! Cheers from Switzerland.

I have a Mini E-Revo myself with a good bunch of upgrades (metal hollow balls, stiffer springs and GTR shocks, RPM front arms and bumper, Summit rear suspension arms, wheelie bar, motor heat sink, shimmed, re-oiled and re-greased diffs, etc.). The servo is slow and weak. I found this to be one of the best upgrades I done on mine. The electronics are fine, however upgrading here is definitely a matter of choice, not necessary, I agree. Since I do not bash mine heavily upgrading the motor is awesome,. The power and torque on command makes driving a blast ripping around. So much fun, and the sound from the mod 1.5 gears in such an adrenaline rush. More power turns the Badlands into grass ripping tires. They are a bit on the heavy side. I have found the Duratrax Six Pack X Belted Mounted Tires are a better all around tire. They do not balloon either. I enjoy watching your videos. You do a tremendous job presenting yourself. Thanks!

    Nice video. I agree. I have 10 year old 3.3 T-maxx and Revo. All stock. Quick. Durable. Wheelies on demand. Original motors. Others I bash with wonder why they can't do wheelies, why they cook clutches and gears, why they break driveshafts, why their motors overheat, etc. I tell them because they added way to much weight with "Upgrades." When I get an X-maxx, it will stay stock too.

    I have this feeling with the regular Maxx. I do think that changing the gearing is a worthwhile upgrade for the X-Maxx after seeing the videos of the difference. I don't see the point in most of the other upgrades though. I am doing WIdeMaxx on my Maxx and putting lights on it because I play with my cars after dark during the fall, winter, and sprint.

    I have the 1st gen 6s x maxx I got when it first came out. I only bent one shock shaft on it since new. Last year I bought an 8s x maxx and have been through one stock esc, proline trenchers, proline badlands and the duratrax hatchet x. The prolines destroyed the gears in 2 servos. The duratrax were the lightest of the 3 but still had to upgrade to the metal gear servo for 100-bucks. Now I’m breaking arms. Sometimes it’s best to just leave things stock. I agree this is the case with the x maxx.

    The turning is a combination of traction and weight. So if you upgrade the tyres you need to change the driving style, suspension setup, servo etc. :D

    • @ManuelOrtizification
      @ManuelOrtizification 3 роки тому

      Depends on the wheels, the louise and madmaxx tyres work fine without changing anything. They are a bit bigger than stock, but they dont weight much more. Unlike the proline wheels which are about double the weight of stock 😅

  • @longboardguy
    @longboardguy 3 роки тому +1

    I think your right upgrades do often lead to some issue or some breakage. I have kept my Xmaxx stock besides the max6. I upgraded to that esc as my truck was an original Xmaxx 6S and I upgraded it to 8S spec conversion. That and I run the RPM oversized rear bearing carries and I’m going to get the new front carriers. I also have RPM front and rear bumper supports. But that is all pretty minimal for upgrade. Just realistic upgrades

  • @seth9145
    @seth9145 3 роки тому +1

    Only upgrades worth while on Xmaxx is
    1) Servo. Doesn't add weight but a pretty big upgrade for turning. Traxxas offers a direct drop in replacement servo for this truck.
    2) oversize axle carriers by RPM. Doesn't add weight but increase load bearing potential if you're an extreme basher. Huge jumps etc.
    3) ESC if and when your stock one breaks. Max 6 drops right in. Again, only after stock breaks. If it does.

    I love my Xmaxx, but I did do a few things to mine. Being used to my Erevo 2.0, I was a little disappointed in lack of wheelie and backflip abilities of the Xmaxx. I put in 20/50 gearing and its definitely peppier. I can get a backflip, but still not as easily as the Erevo. I’m ok with that though. I added rpm roof skids and reinforced the body with drywall tape and silicone caulk. I always heard the rpm rear hub mod was a must, but was skeptical. One of my rear bearings came apart after the second drive. I ended up doing that mod and am happy with it. I took my diffs apart and discovered that they were all low on fluid so I topped them all off. So really nothing crazy has been added, but my durability/fun has been increased, so I’m very satisfied with it!

Upgraded for the stronger Traxxas servo (no issues since) I’m fairly certain that this is all you’ll ever need to upgrade on your Xmaxx... everything else only breaks if you hit something wrong.
