In this video I am comparing:
The Moonman M600S with Robert Oster Tranquility ink

The Moonman M800 with a Bock and Diamine Ochre ink.

The resin on the M800 is typical of a style of resin where the pearlescence is at 180 degrees. You'll find this on all pens with this type of resin. Not a quality issue but the nature of the material. I enjoy how the resin changes as you rotate the pen. The level of transparency always changes. I enjoy almost all of my Moonman No.6 fine steel nibs. Consistently smooth & wet, line closer to a medium. I like Bock nibs but the one on my M800 was not as good as the Moonman nib on my M800. These nibs will have variations, thankfully a little micromesh will fix most of them.

Thanks for this. I agree about the Moonman nibs. I have a number of other Moonman pens and they have not let me down. I enjoy writing with most of them and haven't had a "bad" one yet.

inconsistency here: pattern of Leonardo Momento (USD 240) is as unmatched as the Moonman M800 (USD 32) (7:10) (the Momento tail is even worse, IMHO, a chock of irrelenet white block was blended in). While the M800 was criticised for not having pattern all over the barrel (9:10). The rest of video is top class.

I have a Jinhao 100 in that Galaxy Blue and half of the pen is a solid blue, which is a disappointment since I ordered the pen based on other reviews that praised the resin. That Tranquillity ink is lovely.

Thank you for this close up review video, I have decided I should get the m600s blue pen, as the chatoyancy of the blue acrylic really attracts me, the Majohn m600s blue is even more attractive than my Pelikan M205 petrol marble edition.

I have the M600 in amber and the M800 in purple. I also have a Leonardo Momento Zero in Prugna (burgundy); the acrylic on all three pens has chatoyance at differing angles, which is part of the design. I happen to like the variability quite a bit as it adds character. Interestingly, the M800 has a slight rattle even though there is no agitator in the converter. The Leonardo, on the other hand, has superb build quality.

I have noticed a slight rattle with my M800 pens as well. I wonder if it is the converter tapping the sides of the pen body, but aren't sure.

I have only the 600s. I love mine. The m800s are too much $ for me.

I have an M800 Amber with a Goulet nib, it work wonders for me and the pen looks really good. Perfect starter pen.

I've just ordered some nibs from PenChalet - when they arrive I'll try one in an M800.

Agree about tuning the M800 nib. I have enjoyed the pens. It joins some PENBBS pens as my favorites. K

Good comparisson! I have diff chineese pens. All don't have quality production; a matter of luck. When new, some work, others needed grind their nibs. The real Price Value comes with USE; daily use, cleanings (good care) the converters stop working smoothly & materials loose shine. I use them to test inks but most say they're the Most Expensive because of the Poor Life time and all the tools I need to buy to fix their nibs. Their prices are going up very unfairly too. Very interesting useful video! Thank you!

I know what you mean about prices going up, it's getting to the point where I think they have priced themselves out.
I've not yet had any issues with the convertors, but the oldest one I have is only from 9 months ago, and I rotate them out every time a convertor is empty, so I may not have yet used them enough for issues to start to show. I'll keep an eye out for this.
      Thanks for the warning.

Garry, I really appreciate your decision to compare the three Moonman pens. I have only Moonman pens with the Moonman nibs, which I really like. So, I was anxious to see your take. KW

To be honest, if I was to buy some more I would still go with the Moonman nib. Yes, it is a bit more scratchy, but that can usually be addressed with some micromesh. I am not certain they are worth the additional cost for the Bock nib.

Thanks Garry, that was interesting. The only one I have is the M800 in amber. Mine has the Moonman nib. I really should get a M600s.

Of the two I prefer the M800. I have a number of "Duofold" clones, I have an entry on my list of future videos to do a comparison between them.

Isn't OPTIK paper marketed as not having any see-through on the other side?!? That's why they call it "OPTIK"... yet at 23:48 you can clearly see what you've written on the other side...

So far I've had no issue with any of them. I have had most for 18 months - 2 tears.
