That's a gorgeous pen. It writes beautifully. I've been scrolling through the site and I want them all. For Christmas, my mother (who had seen me writing with a "real" pen) gave me my father's Parker 51 fountain pen. It's been in a drawer since he passed away 25 years ago. It took quite a while to flush the old ink out, but I've got it working now and it writes beautifully. Not sure if it is a fine or medium, but it writes well on cheap copy paper, so I can use it everyday.
@@K_rye that’s so nice being able to use your fathers pen. I’ve got 4 Just Turnings pens now, I love them.
Ripe cranberries at that, coming from someone near a cranberry bog, lol. Nice shade, going with the right pen.
It doesn’t come over well in the photos but it has a really nice gold sheen.
I am curious I noticed you like your Broad pens is it you favourite Nib size and curious how was the BB was this your 1st Double Broad?
@@ladybeavanerdventures I’ve got quite a few BB nibs and stub nibs. I initially used fine nibs but have found over the years I prefer broader nibs, but that may change in the future.
I got a couple lamy’s for Christmas. I’m just starting out. They work good for me. Your pen looks amazing. Really like that ink color.
Lamy makes some nice pens. It's amazing how quickly pens can accumulate. Enjoy your writing.
Lovely pen. I am going to order an Edison Elysian pen. I may go for a Brooks resin for it, if it doesn't cost too much.
The Brooks resins are beautiful!
Lovely pen. Jonathan Brooks makes some great turning blanks.
I've got 4 now, and love them all.
You do like the color green. I finally bought some Diamine Apple Glory ink and I'm anticipating using it. Just Turnings pens are so well finished. Great pen, Garry.
Green is by far my favourite colour. I try to avoid buying many green pens now, but this one is just so nice.
I really like Grotto. Is it a chameleon ink as it changes to green, depending on the light?
It's an extreme sheen ink. This isn't the best paper for it, but on Tomoe River paper the sheen really pops.
@GarryEves Perfect for holiday cards!
this was so good I had to watch it again, thanks for sharing Garry
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice review! Love the resin!
It's stunning to look at.
Perfectly named pen, stunning pen.
👍
Great review Garry. I didn't know that Ron did hybrid pens. I'm definitely going to take a closer look.
@@andreasblahous3602 it’s an absolute stunner in real life
Same for me I don't post what a beautiful pen!
@@karenholden4740 👍
Beautiful pen! That nib and ink make a very bold statement.
It's certainly an "in your face" pen. I love the name as well.
The Portuguese Meteor ink is just too pale for my use. Diamine Gateau is a nice, dark shade.
I think the Portuguse will be mainly used in stub nibs, or some more of the juicier broad nibs. Forest Gateau looks so nice. I'd love it with some sheen in it.
Thank you for this. I wonder if you have a new updated under $50?
I'm going to be recording a series of videos later this month where I will be splitting into start, intermediate, and grail pens. The starter one will mainly be pens under $50, and I'm aiming to publish in February.
@@GarryEves Thanks! I will wait for that video before buying anything.
Great comparison. I have a sample of oxblood and it shades great in a fine schmidt nib. I think ill stil with it!
@@ericneal8582 👍
This is an absolutely gorgeous!! I wish there was a website. I would find a way to get this one. Is there an email address?
I found him through Instagram. I’m not aware of his email, sorry.
What a gorgeous pen. Thanks for reviewing and showing us this work of art.

Beautiful pen thanks Garry

On the Asvine C2000, I ordered a couple of them on Jan. 2nd. Also I watched a review by hisnibs1, and the C2000 has the girth of a Jinhao 9019, and is slightly longer.
@@johndevault9030 👍
@GarryEves On the gold vs. steel nib issue: I have some pens with stainless steel nibs that I enjoy as much as pens with gold nibs, and I believe it comes down to the experience you receive when you put pen to paper and write. For me, I enjoy having a nib that has a slight "softness" and is wet; not to hard or soft (I don't want to etch into the paper, or feel like a brush)., not gushing wet.
@@johndevault9030 thanks. I think this a really good to be able to get peoples thoughts on this subject.
My first fountain pen was a platinum preppy. Had a lot of hard starts and skipping out of the box. I put it in a drawer and forgot about it for about a year and a half. Found it recently. Gave it a half assed cleaning, and now it writes WAY better. It's like night and day. I like it now.
@@michaelfranciotti3900 👍
Another great video. I am about to turn a pen with a Bock nib out of Olive wood. It's going to be my first Bock so I will be looking forward to seeing how it writes. Thanks again for the membership!
👍
I am guessing the finish is lacquer on brass? Love the way they do it.
I like the different shape that it has, makes it stand out from my other pens.
Lovely video, thank you. Gosh those two inks look almost identical.
The Carene will always be in my collection 🧡
@@sandraharris8386 I know what you mean. It's such a gorgeous pen.
I've only dipped the Carene but I love both great video thanks
I really am torn between these. The writing experience on both is good, but the Carene just edges out the E95s in so many ways. Then the price difference, I could have 2 E95s pens for the price of one Carene.
Great video Garry!
👍
Considering the pen was introduced in 1966, it still evokes a modern design, imitated by many other companies.
I've seen a number of pens that are very similar but no one quite does it like the original.
@GarryEves Jinhao comes to mind.
Thanks for doing this Gary! After seeing it, I ordered one from AliExpress. I expected it to arrive a few weeks into January, but it landed today, and I’m very happy with it indeed!
I'm glad you like it. I just wish they did a notepad style, with plain or dot-grid paper.
The top Diamine for me is Grotto. I think it would be perfect for holiday cards. I will certainly pick up a bottle when it becomes available. As for Colorverse, I hope they release Supergiant. It is a gorgeous shade of red.
I've got a couple of follow up videos where I pick my top 5 from each calendar.
For 2025 I bought the Kinbor Weeky Planner, a two page spread, the week horizontal on one page, space to takes notes on the second. Perfect size for me for every day use, it fits easy in my bag, behaves great with FP. Nest year I’ll consider it for my journal too.
I'm using the Weekly as well. The Weekly is more for my day-to-day planning, whereas I'm using the Techo more for my journalling and tracking.
I really like Sunbeam, too bad it probably won't be voted for a full bottle. Brinicles, as in brine, they're formed from ultra-chilled brine decending from the bottom of ice sheets.
@@bernadmanny 👍
I like all the inks in the Diamine inkvent calendar 2024. I did not try the Colorverse calendar. The 1920s dark noir Christmas feel was quite interesting, with many nice shades, giving specific emotions of a long gone era and a space of storytelling for me. The day 12/19 mix up was a memorable distraction for me. I love the Snow Globe ink. Thank you, Garry Eves.
I like the reference to 1920's dark noir, it's not something that occurred to me. I still can't believe I managed to mix the days up.
I’m a fan of milky way, as well!
It's such a nice combination. It performs really well in a pen as well.
I hesitated a bit to long and couldn’t get the Colorverse calendar. There where some inks in it which really spoke to me, so I hope they are going the same way as Diamine did and bring out some of them later on. With the Inkvent calendar I think they overdid it again with shimmer/chameleon etc. inks, just like last year. I prefer finer nibs, so I‘m always a bit careful and picky when choosing a pen for these types of inks so they don’t clog up the feed. On the other hand I think I already inked up more pens with different Inkvent inks than I did in any of the previous years. I really like the extreme sheeners, even the one from day 25.
I'm with you about the Inkvent and the number iof shimmers. I only use them, in pens that I can easily pull out the nib and feed which does limit the choice of pens.
Does the nib have any bounce?
Not really, especially when compared with the Homo Sapiens which has a really soft nib.
Nice pens ❤
Happy New Year to you and your wife. I’m starting off the year with virtually all the pens from December plus a few more. I don’t mind. Other months I would have been inpatient! Now I want to get my Pilot E95S inked up!
I love the E95s. I was using it yesterday and kept trying to find things to write so I could use it more.
I have a Kinbor A5 too- actually I have 2! A daily and a weekly (vertical). I got an excellent deal on aliexpress. Thanks for the review!
I'm using the Weekly as well. I really like the paper so far. I used Diamine Cranberry on it yesterday and there's loads of sheen coming through.
Garry, you never said which one of these three you tend to use first, and what is it about that you prefer..
In terms of preference it's very much the Eco for me.
I am rather envious of you. This pen is quite beautiful.
It's such a large pens as well, so fits really well in my hands.
Indeed
Beautiful pens and very nice inks. As far as inks go, the Colorverse Supergiant is one that I would get for me. Ranking these pens may be the toughest My son gets me for Christmas the Kanwrite Monmouth pen with the #9 nib it has Diamine Onyx Black ink which I really do enjoy. I have the Kaigelu 316, 2024 version, with Private Reserve Chocolat ink. My OPUS 88 Demonstrator has Diamine Regency y Blue in it I have a no name free pen from Fountain Pen Revolution with Visconti Blue ink that has been slightly diluted for better flow Lastly I have an X159 with Diamine Crimson. I just ordered an Asvine C2000 wood stabilized pen with a #8 nib.
Thats' a nice selection of pens and inks. I've got a video ready to go where I pick my top 5 Colorvent inks, although I don't pick a favourite ink as I like all 5 of them.
Happy New Year!!!
👍
Great Pen choices and great inks. Happy New Year.

I'm using a variety of my low-scale newbie fountain pen collection this month: My latest 1x per month mid-range cost acquisitions, the Asvine P200 Titanium with the Asvine #6 <F> Titanium nib, starts off my list. It's heavy for my hand not posted (nearly 30g) but nonetheless is a favorite: Writes likes a dream; lovely hand feel. We're getting to know each other still! I fill piston with syringe. All the threads are smooth, well-engineered. Gets top marks from this Pilot feign (who is in quest of a Pilot Falcon FA ultra flex soft 14k nib), Pelican loving M400 grail, and Sailor synced fountain pen obsessive! My second favorite this month are two pens I fondly nickname, The Twins: Jinhao 82s in <EF> and <F> stainless steel color and gold color respectively with Safari-type nibs. Once I fiddled (per nib professionals and veterans on YTube) Abd polished for scratchiness, and hard starting/skipping issues, these two became smooth and comfortable writers -- copies of the LAMY 2000. I'm not sure how I ended up acquiring two of the same pens as I try to vary my low-end purchases to pens that are stunning design or artistically, or are pens I can swap nibs to get the calligraphy and flex line variations my art and cursive handwriting demand. Next are a grouping of three pens I tend to use in tandem because they are functional and fascinating to use, while having fabulous hand feel. All 3 I had no idea how I ended up ordering each, but quickly found each one to be superb in the areas of my top 3 criteria -- design, engineering and writing/hand feel. These three are in no particular order: 1) the Majohn transparent red-orange cigar shaped C1 screw cap, posts lovely, dipping pen, with a #6 MoonMan <F> 14k nib; 2) the EDC pocket Majohn Wai in transparent mint green with white swirl resin acrylic screw cap and screw post Moon Man #4 <F> nib, cartridge fill; and the 3rd of this trio is an EDC Lanbitou 3062 Copper metal, screw and postable cap with a clip, <F> #5 nib, converter filler. These three fountain pens are always inked and often used for sketching and doodling/daily art class form practice. My most treasured pen during my recent fountain pen shift to flex and vintage nib pens in the Pilot, Pelican range has been a Pilot 78G+ cigar-shaped, acrylic, light weight pen, with a #5 <F> 14k color/plated nib in Mid-blue (a bright Ultramarine). It is light, and remarkably agile and smooth writer as I take school class podcast notes and record my reactions and remarks regarding my art exposure experiences. (I am restricted in these first 3 years to black and white -- no pigment, so I have thankfully refrained from using any inks other than Black Asian Pilot, Jinhao and some Blue ink from the same sources. I am very recently expanding into the Brown standard art inks for sketching, but that is under the direction of one of the You Tube channel artists who is a multiple decades artist and teacher.) Finally, I acquired a Kanwrite beautiful blue, white, brown acrylic resin swirl ultra flex pen that left me with an envelope with 5 stunning Indian postage stamps, and a lovely #5, wrote right out of the box fountain pen. Holiday festivities and commitments have short stopped my time to get acquainted with this gorgeous newest acquisition. More on this one at another time. So, far it is a very juicy, starts up first time every time pen with what to a flex nib newbie has good flex ways and habits. More to follow. Before I post, I wanted to say a few things about pens I often drool over that are suggested for newbies. Those remarks are about Ecos and Diamonds in the TWSBI brand that offer all the design, engineering a hand-feel/functionality that I seek in pens, but would distract me from learning to fiddle with/care/maintain my pens while focused on a rigorous applied art and art history atelier art training experience. Believe me the Eco Prussian Blue, and the Mango have ended up in numerous online carts only to be passed over because I would be enormously distracted by swapping nibs, disassembling and maybe frankenpening these lovely mark-makers, (all things I love to do), rather than practicing forms and completion of assignments. Maybe in my forth and fifth years of art school I can grab a bottle of shimmer and sheen ink and a TWSBI, and sketch my way through portraits and anatomy studies.
I do like my Jinhao 82s. I put a broad Lamy nib on it and it performs better that the Safari. I've only got one gold nibbed Chinese pen, which is the Wing Sung 698, and I find I prefer the steel nibbed version over the gold one. As a whole, although I do love my gold nibbed pens, I do find a lot of the "better" steel nib ones feel nicer to use. My wife bought me a Kanwrite with a flex nib. I've yet to ink it up and will do a First Impressions videos when I do. I'm going to be filming my 2025 Top 5 beginner, intermediate, and grail pens later this month, so will bear your thoughts in mind, which I think is quite a good one. I have played with a couple of nib swaps, but generally I don't fiddle too much with my pens.
I do like milky way
It is really nice. The camera really doesn't do it justice.
I wish I had bought Diamine's invent but you have done a great job Garry. Hope you have a great new year.
I would think Cult Pens or Pure Pens may have them on sale soon if they have any stock left.
Happy New Year to you and your wife. I see she has perfected her pattern for your pen wraps.
