@@gipsy1695 Well I’m 64 years old and back in the early eighties they were called parachute pants. People who went out dancing at clubs back in the early eighties.
You are confusing the two pants. Parachute pants are indeed from the early 80s, but they were made from parachute material or nylon, hence the name Parachute pants. MC Hammer wore harem pants and made them popular in the early 90s.
61 year old european, there's a light sadness when I am forced to accept I no longer have the stamina to dance to this, but it was so much fun!! Would like to suggest you react to the song where it all began The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight", a wondrous immortal track set to the beat of Chic's "Good Times", with the video PLEASE!
And one jealous rapper was-TUPAC-himself. During an interview a female interviewer asked Pac about Hammer selling 10 million records,Tupac compared that to selling 10 million crack rocks. Tupac was seriously hating on Hammer. And in this interview Pac looked broke as a joke. LOL.
Rick James "Super Freak" music..The Hammer Parachute pants became a fashion statement for a few years.Because of his resemblence to the great Pro. baseball player Hammering Hank Aaron he was the nickname Hammer by one of the players on the Oakland As team.
It was Reggie Jackson who gave him the nickname because he thought Stanley looked like Hank. Reggie played for the A's at the time and Stanley was at first a scalper outside of the stadium and then Reggie made him the A's batboy. Hank later met Stanley and admitted that he looked like he could be this kids' dad. (He isn't).
Everyone was doing some sort of exercise in 1990 when this came out. They were worried about getting fat and not eating well,so there was a lot of energy to burn up,and Hammer was right there with this song.
When my son was born, when he'd wake up in the middle of the night, this song was the only one that I could sing the whe way through. My son can also perform this song. He's 12.
He had 4 albums that were major studio releases. 1. Let's Get It Started (1988) 2. Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em' (1990) 3. 2 Legit to Quit (1991) 4. The Funky Headhunter (1994) I believe he has self released 4 or 5 albums since then. He was originally going to do a second album with Death Row produced by Tupac, but when Pac was murdered, he asked to be let out of his contract. The Funky Headhunter, though not near as popular as the first 3 albums still sold 1.5 million copies. In any other era of music, that is a huge success. In the 90's, somehow it was considered a flop. (A real flop would have been a Beach Boys album from 1992 which failed to sell 50,000 copies).
MC was very popular & funky, the sad part is there were too many hangers on taking advantage of his good heart & bank accounts 😢 Back in this time there were clubs & dancing everywhere, people were into health did jazzercize to keep in shape so they could dance & dance all night. James Brown had the moves that so many artists learned, Michael Jackson got many moves from JB!! Also Bruno Mars & his Uptown Funk groovy music is incredible for dancing to 🥰
That's why it such a hit when it first came out,it was Hammer's cross over song that took him to superstar status and other rappers at that time were jealous of this success. Haters by the dozen.
LOVE THE REACTION!!! Maybe check out NEIL PEART Buddy Rich HONOR????? Surprises awaits!! :) AND, or... Victor Wooten bass music????????? :) Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14
I truly believe that the IRS has targeted certain musical artists throughout history. I have my suspicions that they set out to destroy them (and they did). Sly Stone said that there was a rumor back in the 1960s that when a music artist made an appearance on a talk show and talked about big ticket items they bought, the IRS would then investigate them.
The IRS don't care about who you are. They're gonna come for their money. Even mobsters knew not to mess with them. One of the easiest ways for a rich person, especially newly rich, to mess up is not paying their taxes because they will pull up...
No,it wasn't taxes that brought Hammer to ruin,it was him and his brothers negligence of properly handling their fiancees. Hammer employed dozens upon dozens of friends/family members from his old neighborhood. He was spending $ 500,00 to $ 1 million dollars a month on a large staff of 200 people he employed.
His deathrow material was written by Tupac for Hammer. I don't think anything was ever officially released in his deathrow time. Obviously the death of Tupac changed a lot at death row.
Repetitive is the perfect word. I never got into it because it was just too kitchy and commercial. I think his fun pants and hair were as much of a draw as the song itself!
@@AshLee92490 and it paid rick very well. He hated and was upset that he took super freak. But as he said after he saw the checks if there was any other song he might want to use? Plus hammer gave him money on top of the amount owed for sampling. Shame how he was viewed as a sellout but he supported and gave so much to people who wouldn't have earn money. Smh.
This is a terrible song, MC Hammer is a terrible rapper, and no amount of revisionist reactors who weren't around when he was laughable saying it's a banger is gonna change the truth.
Laughable, even though he was making hits, getting awards & making money. He was only considered corny and laughable because of gangsta rap coming through, shutting out rappers like Hammer, Fresh Prince, Kid N Play, etc, but the thing was Hammer was actually about that gangsta life others were rapping about, something a lot of those "gangsta" rappers had to find out the hard way when they crossed him...
@@AshLee92490 he was mediocre, this song sucks, who cares if he was a thug in real life. It's a bad song, annoying and the parachute pants are embarrassing.

The tune is from Rick James Super Freak from 1981. His pants are called parachute pants.
Yes, and these pants are still worn today by nomadic people in Iran and other Saudi countries ☝️
They are harem pants
Thess are harem pants. Parachute pants were tight-fitting and had zippers and pockets. The real ones also made a swish sound when you walked. 😅
