SERIOUS QUESTION guys; As a one man channel, making this 5 minute video is a week long work with the animation, research, shooting, editing etc. It's the time I could have spent with my family and dogs. Is this the type of content you want to see more of? If so, please let me know so I'll continue putting more time into this stuff! Cheers!
I've got to buy a laptop for personal reasons and am trying to find quality reviews from all sorts of reviewers. This isn't the type of content I normally watch, but I appreciated your insight into the laptop. In general its harder to find more qualitative rather than quantitative reviews of laptops, so your video was very refreshing in that sense. All in all it was a highly enjoyable and informative watch for me. Only you can decide how badly you want to do youtube, and getting 17k videos is no small feat. I hope you find the right balance between your passion and your family. :)
I could of bought something more expensive since my budget was $1200 but I wanted to get my son something that can game a little so I bought the victus 3050 model for $749 and a basic HP laptop with a ryzen 5 5500U for $399. We are both happy…
I bought my Victus 16 for $650. On sale down from $899. That's with an intel i5 11400h and a 3050. At that price point there was NOTHING that even came close to it new. So far it's been amazing.
@@calvinmahadeo5823 I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10. It's not the best gaming laptop ever, but it's a very good system. And you can get it upgraded with a better GPU, screen, memory, SSD etc. I bought this over a Pavilion gaming and an Acer Nitro.
This laptop is honestly so good. it's been able to get the job done all the time, i recommend getting the 16GB ram version or just get it installed from a local store and then upgrade the display if you want, for me i personally enjoy the default factory display. It's a gaming laptop so of course without power it will perform significantly less but not too low that you cannot use it, its still good. but you'd always be powering it up anyway even outdoors. For it's price point, 9/10 laptop and 10/10 experience from me
Honest review, I have been using the laptop for almost 3 months now and use it daily. And I even have a possible comparison. So, let's get started: My laptop: HP Victus 16" with 144Hz display, R5 5600H, 3050 Ti, 16GB RAM, 240GB + 512GB SSD My girlfriend's laptop: Asus Vivobook Pro 15 OLED, i5-11300H, 8GB RAM, 1650 Max-Q, 512GB SSD I think the opportunity to compare these two is great, since the Victus and Vivobook can do similar things, but are so different and I want to show for who the Victus really is for. Display: Nothing beats the 15.6" OLED of the VivoBook. The colors are brilliant. I went with the Victus for the 144Hz display. The 16" was a bit more important to me. Of course, every time I see the OLED, I weep for the fact that the Victus has a responsive but darker display, but I find the 16" with its matte surface much more comfortable for programming and gaming. The screen wobble is almost not noticeable for me; especially when the laptop is on a solid surface. And keep in mind; I'm programming. I wouldn't run it on my lap (if for no other reason than it would block the fans underneath). My girlfriend is a designer, spends a lot of time in Lightroom or even Illustrator. I, on the other hand, spend more time in a dark theme in Visual Studio Code. She would not be happy with the Victus, the color accuracy is just missing unfortunately. I wouldn't be happy with the OLED, because something would eventually burn in... Performance (idle + gaming): The Victus has, due to the description as "gaming laptop", the clearly better cooling. I adjusted both laptops accordingly in Windows power-saving mode (the AMD processor offers significantly more possibilities to adjust the processor performance). The Victus idles at 29 to 32 degrees. The VivoBook idles between 34-38. The power supply is usually connected when both are gaming. I have never exceeded 70 degrees with the RTX 3050 Ti, mostly medium to high (sometimes ultra) settings on FHD. The VivoBook, on the other hand, is about 80 degrees at the same settings. I tested casual games, but also more intensive ones. FIFA22, Sonic Generations, The Division, The Sims 4, Destiny 2 or the new Stray. 60+fps is easily possible here. The RTX 3050 is bored in terms of temperature and usage, while the 1650 tends to get a bit warmer despite the Max Q design. Performance (Workstation / Creation): The reduction of the compile time of my apps/programs was particularly important for me. The R5 5600H works great here. It is really fun to code with it. And decreases the compile time amazingly. Davinci Resolve and FL Studio are also fun to use. Due to the lack of color fidelity, however, I usually switch to an external monitor. For editing or editing on the go, however, the integrated display is also top. In contrast to the Victus, the VivoBook shows its full power here. The colors make it really fun to work here. Nevertheless, the VivoBook tends to run with the fan. And that is already the case when compiling a relatively simple application. Even though the temperatures remain low in comparison, the Victus simply outshines the VivoBook with its better cooling. Battery life: Always different. It definitely depends on the task. Due to the processor optimization via the power-saving mode, I am good with 6 to sometimes 7 hours. But the VivoBook also goes in that direction. Gaming on battery is a no-go for me anyway. Therefore, unfortunately not tested. When I am on the road coding with resource-intensive applications, I usually plug in the power supply after 4:30 to 5 hours. Keyboard: I had a $299 Vivobook before the Victus. Still had to get used to the Asus keyboards for a long time, I don't miss them. For work reasons, we only work with HP anyway, which is why the Victus keyboard is much more comfortable for me to code on. The only thing that is different in the German layout is the keys. A small snippet which is available on Shortcut (Shift Shift) makes my work in C/C++ easier. Both laptops have keyboard illumination. Whereby the Victus can only be on or off. The Vivobook can still dim, I miss a bit. Upgrade options: Here, the VivoBook loses out completely, which is why I am not at all sorry about the available OLED. The Victus offers two M2 slots & the possibility to upgrade the RAM. The VivoBook has exactly one M2 slot. RAM is soldered. And the Victus can hold up to 64GB of RAM. I will be upgrading to 32GB shortly as well. Design: For me, both are on par here. What I find pretty cool, and was one of the reasons for buying the Victus, is that it is marketed as a gaming laptop, but it does not look like one. The hinge is unfortunately not continuous, but I can live with that. It can be opened super with one hand. The VivoBook is so light that it sometimes has to be opened with two hands. Due to the cooling system and the size, the Victus is much heavier, but I can still carry it around with one arm open. The VivoBook, on the other hand, is so light that I sometimes think it slips out of my hand. Conclusion: I got both laptops on offer. The Victus for 749EUR and the VivoBook for 650EUR. And what can I say? Nothing similar comes close for the offer prices. And if you have a budget up to 800EUR, don't be afraid to get one of the two on sale. Which one? You have to decide for yourself and what you can live with. Everyone has to make compromises in this price category. A not so colorful display and a bit of screen wobble can quickly become irrelevant, though, if it not only increases your productivity but also saves valuable time in intensive tasks. And you will always make compromises on the opposite side as well. An OLED with massive colors, no screen wobble, but a not so sophisticated cooling system and few upgrade options. I love the Victus and would not want to miss it in everyday use. And that despite the fact that my company provides me with an HP Z-Book with much more power. My girlfriend, on the other hand, wouldn't want to miss her VivoBook. As a casual gamer and designer, there's nothing better than colors. For me, there is nothing better than a workstation-grade laptop I can also game with that has replaced my desktop PC.
thank you so much for this review, i need to buy a laptop from programming/casual gaming, and your description is helping me a lot to decide, i think i'm gonna get a Victus
I really appreciate your review, I just got one question about the screens, does your Victus came with the 100% sRGB or it's a version with a lower sRGB percentage?
The laptop is fine with the design. I don't mind the wobble issue anymore. I'm getting 6.5 hours battery life when using Chrome or doing programming stuff. I never game on battery power, use cable power when gaming!!! Currently I'm encountering this issues: 1.Strange SSD health degradation(Hard drive sentinel shows 45% health, but CrystalDiskInfo shows 100% health and windows cmd shows OK status and no errors found) 2.Stuck pixel on the top right corner(Maybe fixable, but not sure) 3.When closing the lid is not touching the back end(where the usb ports are placed/maybe delivery issue, which I didn't saw when the laptop came) Overall I'm happy with my Victus, but HP firmware/BIOS/software is shit + Windows 11 is buggy on this model. I recommend staying on Windows 10 and disabling auto-updates to prevent from stuck and bricking issues. HP Victus configuration: 5800H/RTX 3050 Ti 4GB/16GB 3200MHZ/1TB M.2
@@HackingStorage hello sir, would you mind telling me how is the laptop performing till now?any issues you had to face? please let me know...I am planning to buy this laptop... thanks in advance.
Three things that I noticed with this Victus that ended up being a dealbreaker with me (I ended up selling it after just a few months): * The body actually flexes! So this actually causes issues with the touchpad if you are resting this laptop on your lap or bed, so the computer sometimes will not be able to click or phantom clicks from the flexing. * HP victus audio drivers have a flaw when plugging and unplugging headsets. The Victus may not recognize the state change between internal speakers or headset, so it requires a reboot. Every. Single. Time. * Lastly, the drivers. When I owned this laptop in 2021, the driver support on HPs website was one big mess. They didn’t have a proper support site for the laptop, the drivers didn’t match or refused to install. This was especially evident when I tried to reinstall my audio driver and HP had corrupted links to their driver 😂 So this laptop went up for sale.
I never noticed screen wobble on my 16' Keyboard arrow finally have been improved, but the Omen KB arrows are better. I came here to see if your battery is as bad as mine. **They advertised battery life 8 hours... there is no way this machine could last 8 hours, not even when new.** Interestingly, the RTX 3050 Ti can be disabled in Device Manager - I wonder if that saves battery usage. A nice part about this latpop is that it has 2 graphics card/gpu.
This laptop is so good I am using the base model 11th gen i7 pair with 3060 I set the screen to 35 and 50 broad day light. I really love this laptop very much
Man i just saw the base model at the store and the display is so dull and dim even at full brightness there's something off about it. I really loved the snappiness of it when opening tabs so do you think the 1440p screen option worth it? Im willing to give this laptop a chance.
dont buy HP laptop with usb-c charging port. they are soldered to the board so any case will require full mainboard replacement. saw it on youtube repair channel. search for it. u will find (sorry kind of forgot the repair channel)
What about the thermal issue? What are the heating percentage during normal use like browsing , UA-cam video , some note making apps ? And what about the temperature of cpu and GPU during gaming?
People buying gaming laptops not only for games. Is it good for graphic design, 3D, cad, photoshop. How about colour accuracy on the display? We know ab refresh rate cause there is sticker on jt, but we don't know about other details.
Hello sir, would you mind telling me that when you did the bios update, the laptop was in windows 10 or 11?and how's the laptop performing now? please let me know..
About 1 month ago, I had a bios update. Guess what happened? It turned off when it was updating even though it was plugged into a wall plug. Bricked my motherboard and had to wait more than 1 month for it to be fixed (1/30-3/20).. only had it for around 2 months :( So make sure to not update your bios before checking forums or hp's official website to see if the bios update released was bad.
My only wish is that the victus offered more RAM in the GPU, it is a budget laptop so you get what you pay for but the RTX3060 is the best GPU you can put inside. at 6gb of RAM it's a bit on the light side.
I have this laptop and there’s zero screen wobble and the screen is beautiful and the keyboard felt nice. Only complaint I have is that I don’t like windows 11 AT ALL

Not at all I'd say it's the sweet spot. Android Studio and other IDEs require a lot of RAM. I used a 256GB SSD machine once for Python development, I'd quickly run out of space because there's always another software you need like Adobe apps. That said, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD will get the job done too. But you'd be much more comfortable with the specs you mentioned. Especially if you like to play games every now and then, or do video editing.
@@9to5laptops78 Android Studio is one son of a bitch 😂. But I basically want something that'll run through build times like butter. Something that will still be smooth if I had 100 chrome tabs open, 2 Android Studio instances both running Gradle builds, a massive web project building and a zoom call all happening at the same time.
this is a bit late, but you would likely need to update your RAM to 16 GB at least while doing android dev if you're multi tasking + running an android VM

if i don't use another display the pc does not use the rtx, i checked the NCP and it should use it with my config but it does not, i would not recommend it tbh.

does anyone know how to enable my f keys on the victus mine seem to be disabled does this come like this because i just bought it an hour ago and the f keys only work when i hold the fn keys at the same time. really annoying as have to hold both buttons to toggle volume. holding the esc with the fn does not disable it im actually so mad rn i wanna return it
That chin at bottom is more a feature than a drawback I think since it puts the screen higher which makes it better for avoiding bad posture which is a big problem for laptop users :v

If the fan is really loud I’ll pass. I really don’t care for gaming laptops anyway. I have a gaming desktop, Xbox series X, PS4 pro(which is about the only one you can hear the fan) so I’ve grown used to silence while gaming. Also these things don’t last more than three years usually.

I appreciate rgb lightning by disabling it completely
Three things that I noticed with this Victus that ended up being a dealbreaker with me (I ended up selling it after just a few months):
* The body actually flexes!
This was especially evident when I tried to reinstall my audio driver and HP had corrupted links to their driver 😂
So this laptop went up for sale.
Can I ask, how much did you sell it? :) Thanks anyway ☺️

I came here to see if your battery is as bad as mine. **They advertised battery life 8 hours... there is no way this machine could last 8 hours, not even when new.**
Interestingly, the RTX 3050 Ti can be disabled in Device Manager - I wonder if that saves battery usage. A nice part about this latpop is that it has 2 graphics card/gpu.
This laptop is so good I am using the base model 11th gen i7 pair with 3060 I set the screen to 35 and 50 broad day light. I really love this laptop very much
Are you still using? Im thinking to buy this laptop buy im a bit suspicious.

As for the battery life mine gives me around 7 hrs on light use with battery saver plan and 5hrs on balanced. Pretty good from a gaming laptop
What about the thermal issue? What are the heating percentage during normal use like browsing , UA-cam video , some note making apps ? And what about the temperature of cpu and GPU during gaming?
I saw from another video that the base model i5 gets to be hottest at 75 degrees
@@caustic9921 thanks alot 🌝
People buying gaming laptops not only for games. Is it good for graphic design, 3D, cad, photoshop. How about colour accuracy on the display? We know ab refresh rate cause there is sticker on jt, but we don't know about other details.
this man is really complaining about a 5 hour battery life 💀 not bad at all
Yup most of the gaming laptop didn't offer even 2 3 hours
I bought a hp victus 17 days ago. I had a bios update on 16th day... Unfortunately my bios got corrupted and taken to service centre 😔
Bricked my motherboard and had to wait more than 1 month for it to be fixed (1/30-3/20).. only had it for around 2 months :(
So make sure to not update your bios before checking forums or hp's official website to see if the bios update released was bad.
Dang... Your victus the best spec option (R7 5800 16gb ram)? And if you have the 300nit screen model how bright do you find it?
Cheers
Hello sir, would you mind telling me when you did the bios update, the laptop was in windows 10 or 11?
Should I get Victus i5 12th gen, gtx1650, 512ssd or Ideapad gaming 3 i5 11th gen, rtx3050, 256ssd? Both are 700$ right now in my area.
Victus 12th gen are more efficient
My only wish is that the victus offered more RAM in the GPU, it is a budget laptop so you get what you pay for but the RTX3060 is the best GPU you can put inside. at 6gb of RAM it's a bit on the light side.
@Pratyussh Kumaarr True enough. If games like Valhalla and Elden Ring are the norm 6gb VRAM won't be enough for very long though.
i mean you could pay for omen or other 3070s and 3080s....... but hey lol
Nobody tried to disable the RtX and use the Ryzen integrated Vega graphics for when you don't have a gaming session?
Does the battery last much more?
I have this laptop and there’s zero screen wobble and the screen is beautiful and the keyboard felt nice. Only complaint I have is that I don’t like windows 11 AT ALL
the new model doesn't have the wobble 👍👍
this should deserve more view good luck sir
Am watching for legion 5 but out of stock for like 3 monthes
I can only buy from taobao but damn how can I risk more than 1000 dollar on that
I can't find myself an Asus Duo Zenbook either :/ I don't know if there's still a global shortage or they're gonna be unveiling newer models in CES 2022. We'll see I guess.
When your current gaming laptop has only 1.5-2 hours of battery life off charge, any increase is appreciated. Lmao
But is the wobble a concern for the long run?
Talks about the Victus whilst an Omen is being displayed?
I purchased the base model 12th Gen core I5 with the gtx 1650 for 440 brand new. It’s not bad for the price point. I could of gotten a steam deck for around the same price after taxes. But that’s a purchase for later down the line

The downsides arent that important, specially when i connect a keyboard to it and i put the computer elevated on a stand, the only issue is low gbs of ram or this would be a good computer
i think you can update it for not much
I bought it cuz I’m on a budget and want a portable computer. It’s also pretty good for gaming and editing.

@@glr1246 no, it honestly sucks. However, I mostly use it as it’s still connected to the charger so it’s not much of a problem for me.

More than enough.
@@9to5laptops78 I want to get the i7 11800H 16GB RAM 512GB SSD variant. Would that be overkill?
Setting the laptop to hibernate will cause the hardware to fail.

Speakers and stuff shouldn’t matter as well as the exterior. If you want this for gaming just get a headset and possibly a monitor
i heard “budget” and this is not budget 💀
I use a pavilion with 3050 and to be honest it's great, I don't like victus taking pavilion gaming's place because of different prices sizes and problems. Pavilion is much more easier to carry and does a better job in my opinion, why did they stop it ;(
