  • Cotton fever is a condition that indicates as a fever that follows intravenous drug use where cotton is used to filter the drugs. The condition derives from an endotoxin released by the bacteria Pantoea agglomerans which lives in cotton plants.
Cotton Fever is a condition known by many long-term Heroin addicts and some Meth addicts, who use cotton to filter the drugs when shooting up. Cotton Fever could be one of the worst experiences he or she will ever face. When the bacteria gets into the bloodstream it can cause a wide variety of extremely unpleasant symptoms.
Known to strike within a half an hour of injection, in some cases, it takes as little as five minutes to set in. The pain of this condition is borderline torturous. The bones ache, muscles can spasm, accompanied by cold and severe migraines the body will also shake, sometimes violently. Of course, there is also a fever on top of everything else going on, which, in turn, brings about nausea and vomiting. This can last for hours.

Love how there's no voice over, so that if someone is experiencing this would HAVE to pay attention and read the whole thing instead of just listen to the information

Omfg I just got this for the first time and I been IVing for 6years straight !!!! Not as bad as withdrawals but just felt like a bad fever. Uncontrollable jaw clenching and shivering and then the sweats. I thought I had to go to the hospital. Lasted from 5am crazy waking up to it. Til 5pm right now

It’s pretty bad. Sometimes you get lucky and it’s just the cold and violent shaking. Basically just shivering no matter how much you warm yourself. But other times your head hurts just so bad.
The 24 hours is a big stretch though. It’s usually over after 4-6 hours tops.
You’ll usually feel better after 1-2 hours. It’s one of the only things that have reduced me to tears. It comes on within seconds to minutes.

Craig Richard I got lucky and that’s all mine was! I’ve seen someone I know like screaming in pain and when it happened to me I was like that’s all? The shaking was pretty bad though. Thought I was going to break my teeth

Sounds like an excruciating condition. If making these findings public can prevent addicts from shooting up, then it serves a very key purpose. Hopefully no mother should have to endure cotton fever when the damage risks are so high.

This is why I do not prefer needles if there is another option. I have not heard about this until now but this is not surprising. This just shows that addiction can be fatal in more ways than one.

Happened to my boyfriend last night I was absolutely terrified. Not an iv drug user but a drug user. Scary stuff, if you use and your to hesitant to go to an actual drug store to purchase your needles, find a nearby area that gives out free clean ones specifically for people that use. there are groups and organizations for these things !!! Not encouraging/glorifying use, but if you are going to use to do it safely !!! The most important thing to know about with IV drugs.

Dave Christan I was with someone this past winter who used snow to shoot up and almost instantly got it. He also kept his cottons in his pajama pants pocket so I saw him get it 2 or 3 times in just 2 months. Like maybe stop doing that if you keep getting it.

Idk how you think cotton fever is better than withdrawals lol. I got cotton fever today and I was fuuuuucked up. My entire back was in excruciating pain and getting spasms, also had the worst fucking headache with extreme chest pain. I had to park at a rest area and cross my arms to avoid my shoulder blades from going into spasms. I’d rate the pain 9/10. I literally was screaming in my car shaking just praying for it to end.
Now withdrawals aren’t a walk in the park but god damn I’d rather go thru withdrawals than cotton fever. When I’m withdrawing, I’m extremely tired and unmotivated with zero energy with insane cravings but atleast I’m not screaming in pain like I do with cotton fever haha

I honestly pray that addicted moms have nothing but miscarriages instead of giving birth to addicted babies with fetal alcohol syndrome or other conditions that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Not to mention the fact that addicts make bad parents to begin with, whether they can help being addicted or not.

    • @stephanielines2338

your anti-drug user discourse and cruel words are deeply unwelcome. i know many folks who use drugs who are loving parents. FYI infants do net get Fetal Alcohol Syndrome from mothers who use drugs - only someone drinking can give their unborn children FAS, and guess what: alcohol is legal. No parent is perfect, your blame of people who use drugs is unwelcome and you should sort your own shit out instead of focusing on others you want to blame.

@@stephanielines2338 Ever heard of alcohol ADDICTION? FAS can be your child's reality if one of your addictions is to alcohol.

    • @eatymceatison97

@T. Dougs They potentially set up an innocent, helpless child up for a lifetime of disability, ADHD and all kinds of other abnormalities. If they don't care about potentially harming their children in that way, they do not deserve to be parents. And a loving parent is NOT a good parent by definition. You can be a loving parent that still does horrible things that end up damaging a child's development. This habit among people to protect parents, whatever they do, is very harmful.

    • @eatymceatison97
      @eatymceatison97 3 роки тому

@@stephanielines2338 Also, a pregnant addict can be mainly addicted to one thing, but also use alcohol alongside it. An actually good parent would have taken precautions not to fall pregnant, assuming it was consensual sex that led to the pregnancy. I met a woman who had a child while addicted. The child's skull shape is very obviously abnormal and, despite being a loving mother, not once did she think to get the child evaluated. Not once did she think to seek help for her addiction while she was pregnant, despite knowing she was pregnant. The poor child has to grow up with a much too large and misshapen head as a result.
Addicts make bad parents - both before and after birth of the child - period. And I'm in addiction recovery myself, so screw you for thinking you know the first thing about addiction and parenting.
