I’m not a trained artist. When I started art journaling a few years ago, I also started watching various art focused UA-cam channels. Over and over again, I saw artists laying down abstract underpaintings, then painting over them. Again and again. I finally saw the subtle nuances of the underpaintings emerge. This is exactly what I saw happen as you worked and reworked your magic on this magnificent piece of reclaimed old furniture!

I sometimes cringe when I see people repaint old furniture that could possibly be brought back to its original condition. I have to say you are doing justice to these pieces. Your use of color is fabulous and inspiring. It's fun, colorful and although I haven't saw any of your pieces in person, I imagine it sets a good vibe in the room. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Every time I think about sharing my work, I worry about people copying my ideas before they've reached the point where they're recognizable as mine. I've become a huge introvert in the last decade or so.

Due to my upbringing mostly but now as I’m a bit older and hopefully a little wiser😆 I realize that to be more and more open and transparent is exactly who I want to be!! I’ve finally realized that creativity is just every individual’s interpretation….but have also matured to understand that to continue the creative process rolling forward, is to honour your inspiration and give accolades where due!! Great job!!👏🏻💃🏼💪🏻😍

Your ornament story brought back so many memories for me. Back in the early 90's I wrote a book, that was published, on how to paint realistic watercolors. In the book were 10 step-by-step projects. I received a letter from someone that complimented me on what a wonderful book it was, and that she took classes from a lady that was teaching and demonstrating verbatim from my book. So not only did this lady profit from teaching from my book, she signed her name to the paintings and then sold them as her originals. So I feel your pain.

!!! Before I started doing craft fairs I read a short book by a man who sold fabric lined baskets with his wife and son. He told a story similar to yours! This crafter didn’t scrap their whole craft for every different show, but they would copy and remake every “best seller” they could from everyone else’s booths! So this guy had a variety of crafts whereas most booths had various offerings of the same craft. He didn’t do well and didn’t know why.

I can relate, it’s really frustrating when you spend years and sleepless nights researching and creating a product for your business and some people just want the easy route. I had a woman who bought a diffuser from me, it took me months to find the right combination of bottle and cap , I wanted my diffusers to be unique. This woman came to my shop and bought one and I never saw her again. Fast forward few months, another customer came to my shop and in our conversation she tells me there is a friend of hers who asked her to research for some diffuser bottles and cap online for her to use for her new diffuser line, she wanted to know where I bought mine from. She showed me the picture and it was my Product.

Gorgeous! Love the half n half approach.
I get inspired by so much art that I see on Pinterest, UA-cam, shops, faires... I have supplies of every kind, books, experience... And even if I intend to copy someone else's ideas, I always vere off. ALWAYS! My nature is not to follow. I tell myself to pick something from Pinterest and make (copy) it... I'll get the basics down, but then I get my own ideas and I'm off! But I totally get what you're saying. And we change so much from 20s to 50s, 50s to 60s... And with Jesus in my life, it's so much better. Being retired is also a blessing.

I don't know a creative, who hasn't had this issue before. LoL From my personal experience people who copy idea's usually are not as good. However I enjoy seeing people who are creative and use my idea's to inspire their own art. I do tarot card videos online, and I have had hundreds of people who try to copy my way of doing it. And I don't mind at all, however I get mad when people steal my videos and claim them for their own. So I understand. I love this dresser, this is your first video I have seen. At the beginning I was like OMG I love this piece, please, please don't repaint it. Until I realized that it was the finished product. I absolutely adore the highlights and textures you used. Really brought out the magic in the piece. Loved watching you really get in there, reminds me of when I paint, I get so absorbed that I lose track of time and at the end look a hot mess. I think I need to paint more, I miss it. Thank you for the beautiful story, video and nostalgia of painting. You made my week. ❤

Yes Debi, I'd love to see you demonstrate pulverising your dried clay paint and reactivating it again!
On the subject of copying original design ideas, I am creative and try to develop original concepts. I find challenging because nearly every beautiful idea has been done before in art. I'm a small player in terms of social media presence and so get little or no credit when I show my completed work. I work away, many times spending weeks on a piece. I'm a details girl and a bit of a perfectionist. I have experienced what I consider my own original idea being copied. Usually by someone that has a big following on social media. Too many big egos out there for my liking. I know my own worth and just the act of creating something so beautiful is enough for me, and along with lovely customers that want to buy my pieces of course! I used to get copied more years ago. Something important I did learn though was the more technically challenging your work is, the harder it is to copy! 😉

It’s a difficult thing to get used to, still learning all the time💕💕💕

Love your paint! I use it on ALL my furniture. The versatility of the clay is amazing & the colors are fab! Love what you created here! 💗

You are seriously one of the most creative people I have ever seen. When I first watched one of your videos, I was shocked! I have always strived for perfection in my work and would do and redo and redo until I thought a piece was perfect. Your videos have inspired me to be much freer and original with my work. Perfection is boring! I need to come to your store sometime. I live right in Oceanside! We r neighbors. Thanks for your inspiration and interesting stories.

LOL I used to do the craft/art show circuit and work all year for the holiday season. It was kind of fascinating how the other vendors copy. I also noticed those little touches were not on theirs that made mine just that much special . I also usually only ran the same item one season and only sold the left overs in the next season and created something new.
Your work here is gorgeous. I did a couple blended items and I live them but I just do not have the hang of it. As silly as it sounds it is easier for me to mosaic the pieces, since mosaic is my jam, than to paint them. You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.

Love the story but I don't think anybody can copy a lot of the things that you do you're just an artist I mean a serious artist and I love the stuff you do keep up the good work you're just awesome

I love the piece behind you! Mind you that it's a huge compliment because I usually don't like the oodles of paint and clay or mesh mashed joint compound, however, I think this is one of your best! Thank you for showing us how you made this look wonderfully good! By the way, I agree with everything that Brenda, Leigh Martian, and Barbara Santiago said!

Michael's sells thin strip sheets of veneer in all different colors so you don't have to choose whether to remove all the veneer. And it can be painted over.

I remember how guarded you were about your merchandise in your shop, and craft fair. I think your first video on how to make ornaments, using Moulds.
I hadn’t used the pigments but I will.
