Tech Noir
Feel the breeze, I feel alive
Will you come to away with me
You’ll be my focus
Could this be, could this be the highway
Before you save me
Just wait your turn, look at me now
Steady as we burn
It was all for love
Just move yourself, drop it back down
And push it out in front
Keep your heart out on the road
Will you come to Tech Noir with me
You’ll be my focus
Could this be, could this be the highway
Before you save me
Just wait your turn, look at me now
Steady as we burn
It was all for love
Just move yourself, drop it back down
And push it out in front
Guided by voices, it’s you and me
Before you save me
Just wait your turn, look at me now
Steady as we burn
It was all for love
Just move yourself, drop it back down
And push it out in front
I just now noticed: when the hero grabs the three VHS tapes before jumping into the movie, he grabs Rocky, He-Man and Escape from New York… but someone had put Care Bears inside the Escape from New York box, which is why he was bewildered when he transformed into the care bear later instead of Snake Plisken.
Mix matched videos and boxes. This truly is the authentic 80’s experience. XD
Brilliant! So many subtle references to the 80’s. The villains with an adjustable spanner like in Aha’s Take on me.
Holy cow you're right. That was subtle. Very amusing.
Didn't even notice till you mentioned it.
That is sweet attention to detail. And let us all face it - dang but this video is just begging for us to notice stuff. It's like, a big turn-on to the part of my brain that notices stuff in Weird Al or Phish videos
36 years old here. VHS tapes in the wrong box was constant. The worst was renting them from the video store and realizing the wrong tape was in it when you already got home. Also a pain in the ass when someone didn’t rewind it - be kind, please rewind.
I lost my older brother to depression and suicide about a month ago now. World's been pretty messed up since. This was the last song he ever shared with me. It hurts a lot, but listening to it and watching the video just puts me back in a place where I can feel his presence as we vibe and watch a lot of these old movies. Wonderful song, video and band. Thank you for this gift.
(EDIT) Its been over two years since I listened to this song for the first time and made this comment. A lot of life has happened in the interim. I find myself is better straits than I was back then. I've grown closer to friends and to my surviving siblings and learned more of myself and what I want out of this life and world. Still through all of the trials and successes since then, this song and GUNSHIP have remained a place of comfort to me. I am ever grateful for the stories they share.
To all those who have replied, no matter your intent or thought or belief, I appreciate the outpouring and expression of humanity and connection. To reply to any one in particular I'd feel the need to reply to all, so forgive me my laziness in grouping it all here instead. Thank you for making the world a little bit smaller and strangers a little bit closer. I ask that you choose to live your lives with compassion and kindness, to both yourself and to others when you're able so as to bring more beauty into your life. Tell someone you love them today. Tell yourself that you are loved. The world can be full of so much pain and tragedy, but beauty abounds throughout as well. Appreciate it when you're able. Stay rad and look out for one another.
So so sorry to hear that Lee. Stay strong brother, sending love. GS X
sorry for your loss, weve all lost that special someone in our lives. Never forget him yo
May the good soul RIP, the strength from the Universe to you. Beautiful art indeed to remember by.
He hasn't gone fella, he's takien this gem to a higher place
@@sewen70 exactly. he's still with you bro
I had this blasting in my store. A customer asked who it was. When I told them and that they are a newer band. He nodded in respect. I nodded in respect. Fast forward a week. He comes back in and tells me he hasn’t listened to anything else. At that time I have fly for your life on. This is what music is about. Bringing people together.
Rad story. Thanks for sharing it Aneronix.😺 Gunship is so incredible. I'm so happy they exist. As someone who was a teenager in the late 80's, I get where they are coming from on a visceral level.
@@voightkampff7936 i love your username fuck yesss
@Aneronix keep up the good word brother and spread the word of the retrowave
Love this band......they should be the biggest band in the world.....discovered them last week and cant turn them off!!!!
awesome
8 years later and this video still rings true.
No kidding. The warring Democrats of the world want the world to be like this. Its truly disgusting. And so many faithful sheep OBEY their whim.
Para quem gosta vai ser eterno.
True? How? I suppose if it meant to depict that people like the protagonists have this sort of fantasy/fetish, then yea spot on.
Imagine being a John Carpenter's movies fan in childhood and then having him as narrator in your songs. That's what I call dreams come true.
great voice acting too!
Карпентер и сегодня ништяк.
John has done some narration for dance with the dead also another great band.
Yeah man, when I started high school, I hated it. For the first month after school, I'd go straight to my bedroom and put "The Thing" vhs in my top loader almost every night. Fast forward some years later and I'm making a music video with JC narrating. Life's funny like that.
@@leehardcastlethe thing does have such a high school vibe honestly, surrounded by possibly hostile unknowns just trying to sus out every scenario for the best possible result not knowing who’s gonna try to assimilate you next. That’s awesome you made it dawg your style is amazing!
I'd be surprised if this doesn't become a hit just because of that chorus. Definitely would have been on every radio in the 80s.
Protagonist 'as The whole point is a recreation of 80s music. You literally just described every chorus in the 80s. By that logic, I'd say they're doing great.
I'd actually say it sound MORE 80s than 80s bands. TV shows and movies didn't have the connections to pop or rock bands, so most all TV dramas would hire one guy (on coke 😊) with a synth to do soundtracks. Miami Vice was the first exception to that. So I think you miss the mark. This is 80 TV music, not radio music.
+Blade Runner I think the cheesy chorus is an intrinsic part of the effect. Remember Hans Zimmer? A "better" chorus would make this sound too modern, or perhaps weirdly older. I don't know what you're thinking. We're you even around I the 80s?
How is the chorus 'cheesy'?
It's not cheesy at all, it's fucking amazing.
I'm blown away by these guys. Discovered them yesterday and this whole 80s synth wave genre and I don't know if I will ever be the same
I was introduced to this genre the other day. Now I can't...stop...listening!
Welcome aboard, guys!
Welcome to the club lads n lasses
share your list. im hunting for this genre for over a month now
@@Luluwahkey I mean, make sure to absorb all GUNSHIP possible first! ;D But if you want more: watch some Prime Thanatos here on youtube, esp Back to the 80s compilations.
My personal faves are volume 7 and volume 8 with artists such as Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, Dance with the Dead, Scandroid, Juno Dreams, Daniel Deluxe, FrankMusic, DONBOR, The Midnight, SUNG, Arcade High, Mitch Murder, Dynatron... and from elsewhere, Turbo Knight, Icarus Project, Neon Nox.
As a child of the 80s... WELL done Gunship! LOVE your music!
Just the fact that the Legend himself, John Carpenter narrated this one stands for its own and the Video kills it even more. So much love was given into this one and it deserves nothing but love.
YES! Totally agree with you!
Yeah, but where's my boy Michael Myers?
I thought it was Snake Plissken speaking into the recorder.
🤩👍🏼💖💖💖💖
Totally love this it's super powerful
god damnit 10/10. that rare instance where you play a song over and over and get chills every time, then see the video and burst into flames because it's so good.
Little Katie Steady as we burn ;-)
Iv'e listened to this album easily 100 times over since it's release and get chills every time. I know exactly what you mean. The music is just so good I can't stop listening to it.
10/10. that rarer instance when someone (word for word) describes your own experience.
I feel the same way. There is something about this song that's so fucking good, it pierces really deep into my heart and evokes all kinds of feelings. Maybe it is cause I grew up in the 80s but I feel like this transcends that as I've met teens who are in love with this song.
Yyyyyup. No regrets
It seems like I’ve always loved this kind of music but didn’t actually know it.
Discovering Gunship is one of the greatest things a lover of 80's era imaginative cinematic musical creations could ever find. Gunship is the wonder I experienced being alive during that period of media's history. Thank you Gunship. Thank You for making something that brings it all back with such precision and nostalgia....
Waggy Waagg some bands or songs do that to me too. Somehow feels like I used to love this, but it's not possible 😅
ElixirNinE Digital Creations was it really like this in the 80’s. Sorry I haven’t really done my research and I’ve never been taught about it

What kind of music is this? And what kinds of artists do this?
I don't really get why this band isn't huge. They're fucking awesome honestly.
not mainstream enough
The entertainment industry at large and marketing.... But it's kinda cooler that way... It's like, if you don't know, I can't tell ya .
the best music doesn't get exposure anymore
its basically just copying the 80s artists but with steroids and annoying nostalgia, its OKAY

Had this song on repeat for the last 3 days. Wow. Just wow
Now listen to Tech Noir 2 👀
This is honestly one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. And I'm a metalhead.
I'm a metalhead too. I think synthwave is the closest genre to metal
So are they, check out Dan and Alex's other band Fightstar. Charlie simpson, the singer of fightstar is featured on this song
hardly surprising.
I've also known a few metalheads over the years that liked dubstep (not all, but some)
And I, as a techno guy found I like some metal as well.
It's cool to see how music can take so many different forms, but at it's core, is still just audial expression at its finest
@@wayn3h Early dubstep really was the shit... none can dispute
Holy shit! It's like this is the genre I've been looking for the past 30 years.
Dude, SAME!
Hold on, you've been looking for the 80's since the 80's?
haha I know that feel man, I discovered the genre over a year ago while playing Miami Hotline 2.
Exactly
Which genre though I want moree
This song was literally playing in one of my dreams and it was EPIC
so not literally
Wtf, same!
That’s cool.
@@Ryfinius Well it depends on what he means by 'playing' - if he meant it was actually playing a game as opposed to simply that he could hear it play, then yeah, it was literally 'playing' in his dream.
Same shit
Isn't the Tech Noir that discotheque in the first Terminator movie?
And i really love you guys! This song is fuel for the mind.
Yes, it is 👍
Yes. Direct Terminator reference. Gunship rocks.
It's on Pico boulevard
Bout a year ago I think, I called up my local University college radio in Southern California and requested this song. They dug it up online and played it over the air waves during rush hour, when people where getting off work.
It just made me happy to know this retro artist was played over old fashioned radio. 😎📻
My dad just died. He was in ICU for 14 days and died from multiple heart attacks I just went to the funeral home to arrange a burial. This song makes me feel better so thanks for creating this just makes my day.
Me too, brother. Stand Firm. ✊
"Hope for our future is now a still born dream"
Jeez.. Cutting deep with this one line.
Wouldn't expect anything less from the legend himself.
Thank you, Gunship. You made 2023 a little more bearable. This song, and many others, helped me through some hard moments.
Im so glad that in the billions of years of this planets existence, I existed at the same time as this track.
Any other track you’re glad you’re existing along with? Thanks
What a fucking dope ass comment! Damn! What and epic compliment to this masterpiece of a song!
And I'm glad to exist along with you, sir. :)
Well said!
There is no off/on switch for existence. Everything works together and exists at once. Form is all the changes.
Why is gunship suddenly more important to me than anything...
Where has this been?
I can’t believe something this good exists...
I can’t believe I found it
I knew it! More and more people are finding About this synthwave and the 80's revival movement, i'm a 100% sure the 2020's Will be the decade to revive the 80's!
I think thats how everyone who discovers GUNSHIP for the first time feels haha

Diego Estrada I’m excited for it then. I just started listening to this type of music, discovering it from a roblox game believe it or not haha. But I love it!
@@diegoestrada56 I literally only found out about Gunship a few days ago. Absolutely amazing music. Where has this been all my life??? Seriously :O

Care Bears still got the job done!
yeah thats what he means, he grabs the escape from new york tape but it accidently had care bears inside, he didnt intentionally take it
Of course he intentionally took it, he was hiding his guilty pleasure of care bears inside escape from new york so no one knows he loves it.

Gunship is a declaration of love for the 80s and all the magic it had at that time.
I miss my mullet. It was glorious. Would have made Billy Ray Cyrus quit and go home.
I had power, once.
Seems to me that they're making magic for us this time 'round.
The vocals always gets me off guard. Can't put my finger on why, but I feel the breeze the moment that deep, beautiful, mature voice starts to sing.
Man it really makes me feel all emotional, and honestly it’s so hard to put into words why it’s most likely because it makes me feel nostalgic even though i was a 2000’s, baby, yet it has that power. Also i will admit it’s a sexy voice.
It has a Pink Floyd vibe on the chorus.
The power of Charlie Simpson, a beautiful man with a beautiful voice!
Mature? These boys are hardly singing mid range
The best part. The voice is like surfing a perfect wave in summer sunset, and the background music is dipping its hand in the crystal clear water.
My mom just died yesterday. This was her favorite song. We would listen to it and just laugh. So atleast I have this song to keep her with me. Thank you for this music. I miss you mom.
🌹 I heard you out there.
So sorry for your loss...I too can relate. Hopefully things will start to look up for you. God Bless😇😇😇🙋
This music, this animation, this story...moves me emotionally.
I'm an amiture freelance lone wolf CGI animator. I am trying so hard to produce an animation of my own creation to capture the absolute amazing cinematic epicness of this song... I haven't come close yet... I will... I won't give up. I will not fail.. To quit trying is the only way to fail even if I haven't done it justice yet... I will...
YASSSSSSSS!!!!
And you gotta love that nod to cartoon crushes.
This song makes me remember how influential John Carpenter was to a music genre. I mean he wasn't just a great director who got screwed over by Hollywood, but he also makes amazing music that has influenced this genre.

yes, i was happy about dvd :)
Everything is too accessible now. So everything becomes commonplace. Meaningless. The point is, a world without VHS is a world of depression. ;-)
My ex girlfriend introduced me to the beautiful world of Gunship. The characters in the music video even look like us, which is crazy to me. I miss her so much, I miss the good times we had together. This song helps me remember those good times and feel ok about my sadness and loneliness today. Thanks Gunship

This song gives me a feeling of existential dread, yet I can’t stop listening to it.
That's the 80's in a nutshell.
Always made me feel like I had something to do
The most satisfying music to me has tension in it, where rhythm and melody are pushing and pulling each other. Synthwave is FULL of tension and I can't get enough. Bands are pushing the boundaries and subsets are forming. Like Dark, Goth, and regular Synthwave.
One of the coolest music videos ever, cool characters, amazing song, and a great story. All around fantastic.

This is one of the greatest songs ever made, I absolutely love every aspect of it. I particularly like it when you first hear Lou Hayter's vocals ... +Stinger911 I'm not sure, but I think it says "Hard way" instead of "Highway";
+Mixmaximum ITA i think the same...
+Mixmaximum ITA Am I the only one that thinks it says "could this be our way?" Just with vocal emphasis at the beginning which is why we hear the sort of "H" sound at the beginning, I could be wrong, but our way seems to suit the previous lines of "you'll be my focus" and "could this be"
+Stinger911 You best man )))
+VVVEndZeiT
in the preceding lyrics, the singer is really soft on his d's.
it could be possible that he is singing "could this be the hard way" as well.
it does make sense that it would be highway though, given the previous lyrics.
So so so so fucking dope!! This is so 80's synth, it sounds authentic, but new. It has that emotion those old songs had. I get them Bloodsport feels bruh!
the song is much more cleaner vs the 80's but this sounds much nicer

That part from 3:55 to the end of the song is just so incredibly amazing, favorite part. I LOVE IT.
GUNSHIP fans, arise!
Do you have any idea how privileged we are to live in the same space and time as this band?
We're fkn lucky, this is by far the greatest band of the 21st century.
Man 1980 times were cool
@Standard Excelsior I think the 80's early 90's were probably the best time in History to grow up so far, because we had Technology, but the internet was just burgeoning and kids weren't stuck in a phone or a computer, we had great imagination (D&D, all sorts of RPG's and table top games), the toys were so much better than the shit they have out today.... GI Joe, Lazer Tag, and the cartoons that went with them. It was really the last Era where you could get a way with crazy shit, without someone calling the police on you, or turning your parents into CPS. We would buy cases of roman candles, and mortars to have massive fireworks wars, we would jump in old cars and race the shit out of them...….
@@mountedpatrolman Yes. Very much. I live in a what is increasingly less a rural area and it was great. Cruise the local shopping center parking lot. drinking or getting with the gals, if a cop or deputy caught you it was pretty much "take it to the back roads kids and we don't have to notice" type of things. The only people who were a problem were and are the jackoff tourists. We had it made. You only got into deep doo if you did something pretty bad. Miss those days.
the 2080s will be better.
@Drakilicious Well I grew up in the late 80s & early 90s and while I get what your saying I'm also pretty sure the world just really sucks now.
@Drakilicious I totally get what you are saying. Just like Socrates quote and how every generation thinks the next is going down hill but I think the internet is the big game changer here. Historically technological advances have never moved so fast. Yes, the telephone replaced the telegraph, the car replaced the horse and buggy, tv replaced the radio but those changes were nothing compared to the sociological changes the advancements in computers, the internet and now social media have not only brought to our society but the world as a whole. Kids today don't even know what an encyclopedia is (I know because I'm a teacher) and they retain less information than ever before because everything is stored on their phones or computer drives. They interact socially less and we are seeing a rise in anti-social behavior across large populations of young adults and teens. This isn't me talking, this is sociological research. Ok, I may have rambled a little, but the point is before everyone was connected to everyone else with a push of a button and before screens became the main way people communicated, things were a lot different and for a great many people, better. Statistically Icelanders are some of the happiest, healthiest people on the planet. In studies they contribute a great deal of their happiness to community and local gathering of people....thats something the internet has a tendency to circumvent. Sorry, I research this stuff and I just find it interesting. I tend to get carried away. :)
Having the Power to become the main character of any VHS Tape you put in is insane and the MC treats it like it's some stance switch. I love this shit.
nostalgia so strong, it gives you chills down your spine...
This is the most synthwave thing to ever synthwave and I frigging adore it.
The care bear was hilarious.
Just got transformed back to 2016 for a second. I love songs that can do that
ive listened to this song for years and this is the first time im watching the music video and ive got to say that is not the music video i ever expected and im not disappointed in the slightest
Took me 7 years to find this absolute vibe, worth the wait..
I love all your vids, but this one's sheer brilliance: the claymation, the story, the references -- all working so well with the music. The Care Bear part had me in stitches! :D One can only wonder what you'll do next -- and what track it'll be!
+Clunky Dweezil Lee Hardcastle is great
Lee Hardcastle does a lot of good work, check him out and his other music videos.
I used to drive at dusk with the windows down and blast this song.
Wow! So glad a friend shown me this video. This is EXACTLY my kind of music, very rare these days but so good! The only similar good band I knew was "Perturbator" from France.
Kavinsky
Scattle, Mega Drive
it's like kavinsky and fm 84 had a baby. outrun+synthyromance
Yeah, the latest album of Carpenter Brut "Trilogy" is honestly, the best thing I've heard since Gunship. FM 84 last one was really good too!
Still always watching all these years later
I had almost forgotten about this kind of music. Man I miss the 80s.
Holy crap seeing such new and fresh comments on this makes me so happy knowing this band hasn't been forgotten
Uhh yes I do! 2024! Hoping for tour!!
Ive had this song on repeat for the last week straight
The song and video are an absolute masterpiece
If this was a show i would watch the hell out of it
When your 80s nostalgia doesn't measure up, call in the Gunship.
My greatest discovery for today.
Tremonti brought me here. Apparently he was inspired after randomly hearing this on the radio for their new album, the greatest rock band in the world added 80's synth-wave into their new album on the strength of these guys... proud.
I now see where "pay no mind" got its inspiration
me too. Saw the interview and searched for the song.
You guys should check out McRocklin & Hutch. This style of 80's synth, but with killer guitar over it, totally instrumental. Like Miami Vice but with sweet lead guitars! ua-cam.com/video/-FAPzb9mlPk/v-deo.html
me too
Just read the article!! I could not believe it and had to listen to this song and can finally connect all the dots of why Walk the Sky sounds the way it does. Glad to see other AB fans here!
What I appreciate about this video it's it show you the movie covers of films the characters reference, so that young viewers can perhaps go watch the classics most of us grew up on! Awesome way to pass legacy down to youths!
Any music video that has John Carpenter as THE narrator is amazing
If you're driving in rain or darkness, and you play this and perform John Carpenter's speech at the beginning, you will feel the coolest person who ever lived. Works every time.
