As an owner of the green dial auto HydroConquest, I can say they are a fantastic watch for the money. Older than Rolex, and not a bad point about them!
The Tissot Gentleman is really a great watch, silicium, anti magnetic, 10 atm, sapphire. It used to be 5 ATM so this is a great improvement. It does what the image of what a Rolex watch was back in the 1970s, rugged, dependable, no nonsense, stainless steel, but of course much better in all respects than those watches were.
And surprisingly big and heavy. I can’t wear mine on the bracelet, but I’m so happy with it now I’ve got a nice brown leather strap (vintage highley from watchgecko).
Of brands that weren't mentioned, I'd add the Mido Ocean Star. They get overlooked a lot, and they're honestly one of the best brands for the money under $1000 or so.
Especially MIDO Ocean Start GMT, where you get Swiss watch, 80h power reserve, +/- 2-3 s/day, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, ...... and true 'travelers' GMT mechanical complication. Not many companies can beat this for the money you will be paying here.
All these watches are really great value for the price. From the list I own the Longines HC and it is really lovely watch. But I think only Tissot, Hamilton and Certina are under $1000 range. B&M, ML, Ball, Longines,FC are between $1500-$2000.
Try a Certina DS Action Diver instead of the Hamilton. Everyone always talks about the Hamilton but the Certina is much better imo. ISO certified, 300m, ceramic bezel and the bracelet is miles better.
My Hamilton field was only $100 due to model close out back in 2009, hardly more than the cost of a good steak. I did, however, like the Certina presented here and started to pull the trigger on one years ago.
@@thomashrubecky1663 I've fallen out of love with every Hamilton watch ive owned and ended up selling them and moved up a tier with longines I can't ever in every category pick a Hamilton over a longines except field and especially not diver

Zodiac green dial all the way, then the Longines. You are both funny but Tom moreso. I like his dry wit. Great vid. Thank you. What would you both chose? Chris from bloody cold Canada
Tissot's "Chemin des Tourelles" is a slimmer-looking alternative to the "Gentleman". Nice, thin bezel, on top of the Powermatic 80, sapphire, etc. etc.
My understanding of horological history is that Swiss neutrality gave them the edge in watch making because they did not keep on having to adapt their industry to making weapons whenever their was a world war and so kept their expertise in timepieces. The Zodiac is my fave.
That's correct, they actually sold watches to both sides, iwc being the most prominent example. Everywhere else in europe was reduced to ashes from the war, and America couldn't change back from war production fast enough and so the American watchmakers either went out of business or went Swiss. Keep in mind the post war boom in America basically carried the entire industry in this time, no one else had money until the 60s.
Never realised that the Longines Hydroconquest was such a clusterpluck of dots, bars and numerals. I knew there was something I was repelled by and I always though it was the odd crown guards alone, but now I realise it's multiple things.
The watch presented is the steel bezel/older version. The newer ceramic bezel automatic version ($1700 usd...can be had for less) is cleaner with much less business on the bezel and dial. I recently purchased the 39mm version and love it
Finally some different, go Zodiac!! I also like the Tissot but the Powermatic 80 movement closed to maintenance is not an option for the long term. No one of the options offers titanium? I keep looking for Japan, even some Chinese options

It’s a dead heat b/w Andrew and Tom. But watch-wise the Longines with an automatic movement please!! Lovely dressy diver that can deliver the goods where needed - daily beater, dressier for work or social events, versatility ++
Then you should definitely check Swiss new watch brand H992. Sellita SW260-1 COSC certified, very appealing and minimal design, sapphire crystal sandwich, quality of construction on a very high level and Swiss made!
Longines shouldn't be amongst those brands. It has more heritage history and has patents in the watchmaking world. I would also mention Glycine. They are Swiss Made with ETA/Sellita movements and represent very good value for the money. Their bronze collections are really nice. They are also amongst the first to present GMT movements with 24 hours in the dial.
@@billybenson3834 To be fair, Invicta is known for mass production and low quality, so they did not do Glycine any favor in buying them. But credit to Glycine for not lowering their quality, especially in recent times.

@Cagatay Cakmak… how long does the tritium hold its lume? I tend to wear my watches to bed and my wife is VERY sensitive to light. Does this lume hold its light for about the same time as superluminova or will this be a beacon at 3:30 am?
