- This is Android 14 - the face of Android in 2024. It's launching on Google Pixel devices imminently, before hitting Samsung, OnePlus and everyone else's phones in the coming weeks and months. By the time you're watching this, maybe it's already available on your phone! If it isn't, it'll almost certainly be on the phone you buy in 2024.
New Android versions come to Pixels first, so we're going to lead with the changes we're seeing with this new version on the latest Google phones. And on Pixel, there are a couple of changes that actually take inspiration from Apple's latest features in iOS 16 and 17.

samsung had lock screen customization before iphone.
yeah but the unfortunate thing is Samsung never marketed that feature, genuinely almost nobody used that. Majority didn't know. ios popularized and stylized the lockscreen customisation to the roof, now we have lockscreen customisation in a14.
Apple does things pretty slowly but when they do, they do that with utmost sophistication and they market that heavily.
Note: I'm a Pixel fanboy😂
Android* not Samsung
LG had lock screen customization before Samsung.
@@kristopherlauro4327 Apple makes things mainstream.
Yes, I watched the video too.
1:38 cannot believe this 😅.. how did android copy lock screen customisation from iPhone when they started it?
Androids always had this feature for years, even if the focus were slightly deviated for some OEM's. But was never dropped.
Not the customization itself but the clock styles are iOS inspired bcs before the iOS 16 update Stock Android didn't have those styles of customization unless for example my Samsung used LockStar to have something similar and now you don't have to get LockStar
i had to legit pause the video after hearing that. even my mid ass a51 could do that 4 years ago.
Had what feature bozo? They're copying the aesthetics, not the customization itself which isn't a feature
This is the problem of having an "i"idiot reviewing an Android. They are the most clueless people on the planet...

Different wallpapers on home and lock screens has been a feature since Android 13 and I think even earlier.
I used it from Android 9 I think.
i think he just meant you can do both separate now. like 2 panels vs a pop up to ask what you like it to do perhaps? if i'm wrong sorry lol.
Yeah I've always been able to do this
Android 9 and that was years ago
Pretty sure that's been a feature at least since 4, maybe even earlier. I have an old Galaxy S3 running TouchWiz Android 4 and it can do this.
Though I enjoy your videos, I feel that you give yourself more credit for being a geek than you really are. XDA forum used to be the home of true geeks back around 2011. Seeing your videos it feels like someone has been using iPhone all their life and only recently started to know android. Some features that you have said that android has copied from ios has been in android in some form or other but only after Apple implemented those features it became mainstream. While in the most awaited ios 17 also have so many features that were in some ROMs of android first. Like there are brand new wallpapers of planets, Xaiomi had bought that first in the form of Super wallpapers almost 5 years back. As the channel name is still XDA, I hope you research a little more. Saying this as a regular user of both android and ios.
Hi Debanka, how do you update an android , does it update it self like an iPhone, or do you have to sign in? to som updateslike IPhone, or do you just hit update?
@@jonlaguerre3163 just click update and it will download the update. then you have option to either reboot and install update or you can select option to update later like when you are sleeping etc. I forgot so I'm not sure but I think you also select to auto download update if you want or u can turn auto update off
Agreed it's kind of a weird watch
samsung did the customizable clock on the lock screen back in 2018 lol
I second this message. 😌👍
This guy really should use androids more if you really think one of the new feature on Android 14 is setting different wallpapers to home and lock screens. That has been a thing for YEARS. Thats not something from iPhones. Nothing Phones have lockscreen widgets in A13.
this dude knows nothing about Android. and he calls himself an "android Nerd" .
Yeah, that bit honestly caught me off guard real quick.
I thought I heard him say "different LIVE wallpapers", and I went back to listen, and he said just say "different wallpapers" ( 1:40 )
WTH!?
@@LDavisI mean different live wallpapers were a thing too before. im using Android 11 and i have different live wallpapers for homescreen and lockscreen
That guy has been reviewing android for decades. He goes way back with Android Central. If anything he's reaching cause there really isn't as much front facing stuff in 14. That and a lousy script write.
lock screen customisation is something apple copied from android and not the other way around
I was wondering what he's talking about lol
Most Android phones copy Apple's design language.
Ikr this was so unreal coming from xda
Feature? Sure but the design language and the way it operates is almost always the other way around
Customization yes, but the entire interface etc. is definitely Apple inspired
The guy is an iphone user. Get out of here.. get another person that has better knowledge of an adroid phone. Lol
He isn't an iPhone user and also you made a typo
That’s what fanboys normally say when they cry about something he said that they didn’t like .
Do you actually know who he is? I do and he's anything but an iPhone fanboy.
Jeez as an Android fan making my phone feeling like an iPhone is everything I hate. Poor title.
The Space them is probably a nod to Android 14 supporting satellite based texting on most Android flagships starting Q4 2023
The big let down in pixel phones is a greyish dark mode instead of Samsungish genuine oled dark mode. I have a google P5. I love the phone. I can't think of switching to modern day bulkier phones . Android 14 is gonna be the last update on my P5, hope they give the genuine dark mode
That's true. You only notice the difference when you use a phone with dark oled display
Use custom ROM's.
That would drive me nuts. What is the point of dark mode if it doesn’t turn of the pixels and give the true ink black screen.
Most important n most needed feature that's missing is ' APP LOCK ' feature.
I'm still on Android 11 and my phone has a built in app lock
@@SageMage_ I m talking about APP LOCK feature on Google pixel phones, not other android phone dear.
@@SageMage_ Not natively with pure Android, what ROM do you have? Stock or custom? If stock, then which brand is your phone?
It got removed from later versions.
@@themedlebIt was in my previous Vivo phone with Android 10 (funtouch os) and now I have Xiaomi Android 11 (miui) and i still have it. I think it was in Android 9 too
1:48 Wdym different wallpapers on home and lockscreen like it's some new feature android got from iphone? I've been using that for years on android now
On Pixel 6 Pro so far 14 is an excellent upgrade. Fast, solid, and much better battery life. Nice extra features and many positive tweaks. Looking forward to getting my 8 Pro.
Am I the only person who thinks iOS gestures don't feel natural?
Nope, same here
Back gesture yes
I have a iPhone 13 and Pixel 6. I hate back gestures on iPhone. You gotta press top corner and it don't always work on certain pages or apps. Pixel software is way better iPhone is just simple for most average ppl who ain't into Tech.
@@thatninja718 Yeah, I just prefer the pixel back gesture
Yep you’re wrong. Apple gestures are amazing on an iPad on a iPhone it’s a no go. 😅
Before even watching this video. Last thing on earth I want is to turn my android into crapple.
Hey XDA what is the application that you guys have used for battery health detection
At some point I read that the buttons on the lockscreen will be customizable in Android 14. Is this still the case or was this feature scrapped?
when will be it's release for pixel devices?
You've always been able to select a different wallpaper for home screen and lock screen, what was that about?
This dude is tool, I couldn't believe how many times I heard iOS in this video 🤮
Could you let me know if the multitasking in Android 14 on pixel 7 pro allows "floating window" not the developer option thing.. like in Samsung or OnePlus
Predicted back gesture is super neat 👌🏻👌🏻
True, I really like it too
You can already enable them in A13 ;)

@@farfar5828 true. Just installed the Beta and they totally improved it.
What can say about battery and heating after this beta version?
How can you make your App icons and folder larger? It only seems to enlarge the text and keeps lots of space in between. Weird
There is still no change in the bottom bar visually, iOS nav bar is excellently engineered
Android apps have had the ability to control their backstack for ages, I can't see why they would need to change anything for the predictive back gesture.
Predictive back is in the developer features at the moment so it must be quite experimental
i am using it for 4 months i like the way some features look ut there isn"t lot of change from 13
Man... can you change that caption smh...it is iPhone that's trying to be like android
Pretty sure Android allowed setting a different image for wallpaper and lockscreen image already.
I was doing that stuff on my note 8.
@@Macgyver46 Yeah, exactly.
What set up do you use to edit, am trying to transform my channel
Super excited about the new battery health data that will be available!
I can already do all that lock screen customization on my s21 ultra using Good Lock.
Good software version but my experience on the beta has been very buggy. Many of the headline features only work intermittently and often the phone will freeze and need a restart. Im on android 14 beta 4 hoping the stable release fixes these issues and also lets the lockscreen clock work again.
Is it unstable? Should I upgrade my pixel 6 pro to Android 14 beta? Or is it better to wait for the stable one
@saza5185 wait for stable release
No need to experience the beta version
@@saza5185 I'd wait at least for the QPR beta but personally wouldn't recommend pre release
Most stable android experience 💀
What happens if you don't restart?
1:39 Is there a lock screen clock that isn't shown in 2 lines , yet it's as large as it was in the past?
been usung the beta versions for weeks now theres no change other than the battery animation worth noticing
Still no dynamic notifications for delivery apps 😢
Can you confirm, that it bypass the Android audio resampling now?
So a phone's charge cycle indicator will help us out incase someone tries to sell a used phone as new ?
I love how the AOD can match your lock screen wallpaper just like iPhone
I couldn't find the auto unlock when the pin is entered thing on the settings how do i enable this?
Edit: nvm pin needed to be atleast 6 digits or more 😅
Like how do I exit with the stable version idk why I put this one my phone
Nice one Alex. Kindest regards, Richard U.K
Hope the forced theme icon functionality is good.
WoW ! I never knew XDA has a channel , great channel!
Amazing 🤩
Been delayed another month apparently 🙄
Super cool video! Can't wait for Android 14/One UI 6
News just broke that it's been delayed until next month for the Pixel 8 launch. Damn it.
Great video well done.
I know terrible question but that snowy mountain wallpaper can you tell me where I can find it?
When it will be released to pixel 7?
Wait, Android has always allowed you to change the wallpaper of the home and lock screens. Not from iOS. That drag and drop is pretty cool though. The visual percentage on the battery has been a thing. It's not new either. I remember it on the Pixel 4 XL. This may have been an accident, but my Pixel 7 Pro had two X apps on it. Both were very much useable, the logos were just different sizes. lol
Will 4a 5g get update?
What a time to be alive !!!
Flash notifications has been the Samsung's accessibility for a while now.
i quite like the left side dropdown panel shown at 1:19
But I can set different wallpaper on home screen and Lock Screen on my Android 10 OnePlus 5 as well
if I wanted iPhone would've bought an iPhone 😕.
All I want is the option to turn off the left (or right) back gesture.... so many apps still have edge swipe menus... and Android 13 has rendered Fluid Nav Gestures unusable
I face this everyday, sometimes i just go back to the good old 3 button navigation
An easy trick for apps with edge menus is to press and hold near the edge of the screen, and then that menu will slightly pop out. From there, you can swipe/pull the menu out the rest of the way.
This will be a game changer for you. No inadvertent swipes back.
I am a huge fan of gesture nav, and that side menu issue was eating my soul until some other kind netizen shared that with me.
No desktop mode ?
Do you personally like ios or Android version of pixel??
How can i get that wallpaper
If I wanted an iPhone, I wouldn't have bought an Android!
Yeah, but with the new update, you get the best of both worlds!
Ahahahahah good luck then because it seem like android is turning more and more like Apple ,the Lock Screen design is almost identical to the Apple Lock Screen ,also some features such as battery health that were on the iPhone now are on android too ,it’s not a bad thing but it’s only band for fanboys .
Android had lockscreen customization 4 years before apple
When will pixel 6a get stable Android 14??
Later in 2023, the pixel 6a won't get Android 15 though
We need a good desktop mode like dex and motorala desktop mode( idk what it's called as)
Ready For
These iPhone immitation you say are available since Android 11 custom roms
How have people not figured out what will happen when you swipe to go back without icons and showing a slow animation?
Maybe if the back button would back out of an app, it would just switch apps instead of closing the app. It would make that basic navigation fuction go from so scary that you need a preview to only a minor inconvenience. How does Android keep getting this so wrong?
Can we get android 14 custom ROM for a21s please?
Whoo. Seems cool!
I could always set different wallpaper on home screen and lock screen.
The clock on the lockscreen is pretty cool, drag n drop might work for some apps, everything is else is kinda meh. I'm still adjusting to all the greatness of Android 13, seems like 14 is gonna mess that up.
The only thing needed is the return feature in apps. There is only back on android which makes it one dimensional. It is good to see that Android 14 has made some attempts to address this.
I’ve always known that this guy was just an Apple shill all along
Much excited for p8
in 2 or 3 years when it reaches version Android 16... the search results for that version will give much mixed results...
i think only some people will understand as to why.
We are waiting eagerly for the drop of android 14 on 4 October 🔥🔥🔥
thankyou
Sadly Android 14 has been the only android version I downgraded from in beta.
I used it on my Pixel 7 Pro and had problems with NFC and wallet, (This was the Beta 2 etc)
But sadly my Pixel 7 Pro died and I got my Pixel Fold now.
Installed 14 and I get issues with both my modem (so 4G and 5G speeds) and other things that just doesn't seem to work (this was the one for Public Beta)
So I'm not looking forward to the upgrade sadly unless it gets fixed.
Though the lockscreen and other security features are amazing.
Dude, that's why it's called "Beta"
How 7 pro died
😅😅 it's called BETA for a reason. Unfinished software. May God have mercy on your soul
@@allenstevenson5986 😭
Is it faster than 13
My very old sony has lock screen customisation so does my current funtouch os powered iqoo 😂😂😂
no app lock feature, probably google planning it to give this on a15.
Now why would I want to make my Pixel more like an iPhone? If that was the case, my iPhone wouldn't be collecting dust.
make a video on oxygen os 14 too
I'm actually a big fan of Samsung hardware, and like how they look. For me, its the better Apps in Apple's Appstore that make me want a IOS device.
I should be getting the nice new features in 3 years...
Why not try a Custom ROM?
Inaccurate statement. You are either get them soon (3 or 4 months delay tops) or not get them at all if the phone is old. Especially Chinese phones with small OS update circle.n
In 3 years, your phone may not be supported anymore, and you may not be able to upgrade to Android 14. You may need to use a custom ROM instead. However, if you have a new phone from a reputable company like Google or Samsung, you should expect to receive the update soon. Keep in mind that budget phones from unknown companies may not receive the update at all.
@panathatube bro I got android 12 on my tablet in September of last year
@@dogboatzero9978 What company what tablet
Hopefully now location and mobile data can't be turned off from the lock screen. (Pixel)
Casually just mentioning the drag and drop without actually showing it other then an extreme close up 🙄. Show it in it's full glory! I've tried it as you described it without proper visuals, to no avail. I'm on the latest beta BTW.
Some more features they need to add :
1. Save the number of home screens , folder and app locations set on the phone and copy them to when we move to a new phone
2. Have an option to download all the apps previously installed on the old phone just before formatting and download it to the new phone
3. similarly copy paste the widgets of the old phone to the new phone after switching , all this because it saves so much of time and energy when we switch to a new phone and we dont need to bother to make these little little changes
4. Save the notification tiles when switching to new phone , be it pixel/ samsung/ Mi
5. Save all the individual app notification settings from the previous phone , so after switching to a new phone we dont ahve to do it all over again , give us have the option to restore settings
6. Ability to sign in to all apps by click of a button after switching to a new phone , imagine all the typing you have to do when you gotta login to all the apps once you switch to a new phone
7. A shortcut notification tile for enabling usb otg for seamless usage of pendrives , instead of going inside settings which is slow and many people dont even know of ......
8. Maybe a new overhauled rapid fast notification access for few features like turning on/off mobile data , wifi , silent mode , otg enable , location , BT , flashlight, etc which are so often used
9. An all new software settings to disable the phone charging after a certain limit even if the phone is plugged in and the user forgot to remove the cable which will improve the battery life and the user dont have to worry about removing the cable if they decide to sleep or go out after setting their phone on charge (very imp)
These features will encourage users to buy frequent new phones for android and it will increase the android market sales and the phone company sales instead of the apple market , and users will be thankful for saving their time and energy and more happy android users , less annoyed users , and for premium users who buy phones every year or second they will be the most thankful and most revenue generating for android phone companies !
i hope xda conveys this message to google somehow so they will note it down , please like the comment so i know all my typing isnt waste............
1,2,3 are already handled in Pixel phones. Your home screen layout will be restored from backup. So Google is definitely trying to simplify phone-to-phone migration
9. It is already a Pixel feature, called something like "adaptive charging" or "adaptive battery"
@@impankratov not just pixel phones but google has to advice all the android phone manufactures at least the mid and highr anfe phones to have these features ,very few people buy pixel all over the world and the adaptive battery needs to be implemented in other android phones also , dont know if pixel just has software implementation or hardware also as in it has some kind of chip inside the charger itself which makes sure the phone isnt overcharged regardless of the actual power switch being on
I don't know about other brands, but Samsung has those features you have mentioned when you switch from an old Samsung phone to a new Samsung phone! So, point 1,2,3,4 (this one UNFORTUNATELY has been on Android for years, since we all know the constant beeping of notifications that happen when you switch to a new one that is QUITE ANNOYING), 5,6 (not sure, but probably exist as well), 7 and 8 ( I have been able to do that since my VERY OLD HTC DESIRE C with shortcuts AND widgets on the homescreen); 9 (Android phones have been doing that since always! What you do not have is battery life percentage like iOS has, but that may vary from Android brand to Android brand. Chinese copycats probably have that software feature).
So, basically, long story short, you have never used an Android phone, have you? Most Android phones have had what you desire FOR YEARS, some EVEN MORE THAN A DECADE, so I wonder if you should not just go out and just buy any Android phone at iPhone price range, even the "older" ones, at 500 bucks price range, and you will have those desires satisfied.
You illustrate how detached from reality iPhone users are regarding the competition, how they have always been... The walled garden is not just about software and hardware imprisonment, it is also about total lack of information regarding the competition, that have what IOS has and so much more!
This done through your Google account but not all Andriod phones have the same skin or launcher so it will load according to your launcher features
@@rijoenpialsee it depends on the brand eco system cause if you switch androids phones often the setup for Samsung would be on each Samsung phone u log in to the same for Sony, pixel, OnePlus or Motorola or what ever android ecosystem you are part of
