The wood bed is like gold bars with the wood shortage and price hype. Awesome old truck y'all got. You truly have a daily project it's in the f o r d name.
Man that truck, even before you guys turned wrenches was super bada**. Love “barn finds” like this. That truck has to have so much history. I wish old trucks could talk
Yes! I'm looking for a 300 6cyl to put in my '77 F100 XLT 4WD... the 351 Cleveland in it currently isn't bad but its thirsty (all time best of 13.8mpg unladen @ 65mph) and really not all that impressive in performance. So buy a 300 and hop it up, sell the 351 running as is, jam the 300 in... now we're talking business! Probably similar performance and superior fuel economy for those long trips, plus the good old stump-puling torque that only a big-ole six can provide.
My daily driver for the last 35 years is a 68 F100. I'm the 2nd owner, it was given to me by my Grandpa. I remember when he brought it home from the dealer. Still has the original (rebuilt) 240.
I bought a 1966 F-100 with the 300 inline 6. It had been sitting behind a barn for more than a decade.. and used for target practice! I brought a new battery, a can of WD-40, and a small piece of emery cloth for the points..(just in case) Put air in the dry rotted tires and less than an hour later, drove it home (with no brakes and a horrendously sloppy 3 on the tree manual) I paid $250.00 for the truck and went thru most of it cleaning it up. You can't kill that 300-6! To this day I still have a king pin (from that truck) in my tool box I use as a drift.
I drove a '65 in high school. And no, it wasn't in the 70's. I graduated in 1991. My dad traded a trailer to it that he built. He said he had three nights' work and $27.00 in it. He sold the bed off the first day home for $90. Put a flatbed and dual wheels on it and painted it with a brush. From twenty feet away she was slick. From five feet she was rougher than a night in jail. I could write a book about that truck but the statute of limitations is not up yet on most of it. Can't wait to see more on this truck.
240/300 swap. O/D. Front disk brakes w/ dual brake master cylinder. Fuel injection and electronic ignition. Otherwise keep the patina and classic look. My dad had a 1966 F250 longbed back in the very early 70s. 292 y block 4 speed. This episode brought back childhood memories. 👍
Man, I love that Big Ugly vibe that it's got. Heck, in It's current condition, I'd call it Big Ugly. But all nicknames aside, I would love to see at least one of those trucks restored. Kind of as a "How it came from the factory" direction for it.
He keeps saying “ran when parked” but in my old age I keep hearing “Fenway park” I’m too young to be this old. I think it would be pretty cool to see that Ford 300 that Engine Power did awhile back go into this truck. 12:37 Nice.

Growing up we had a 1969 F-350 4x4 that my Dad had bought in the early 70's. It had a 12' flat bed from the factory and had the NAPCO 4x4 as well. Came from the factory with a 360 I believe however after Dad had bought it but before he picked it up the dealer was trying to start it and kept backfiring the engine and trashed the original. So Dad had them a new 390 short block in it. Most of my memories of the truck were when it had a 302 in it. The heads on the 390 started needing work so dad pulled them then needed the truck so pulled the 390 and dropped a running 302 in it. That engine blew on us in the middle of Chicago and Dad and my uncle and some friends pulled it and put in one out of a junk yard in a Kmart parking lot. I loved that truck but unfortunately Dad sold it for scrap before I could buy it from him. Maybe someday I'll be able to find one like it that won't cost me a kidney and half a liver.
This reminds me of a truck my boss had for a bit. 1991 Ford F-250 with the classic inline 6 and EFI. Ran about like this engine does. Not much power but that engine refused to die despite electrical issues in the EFI system. It was always fun to drive.
He says "it doesn't get any cooler than this". Trust me guys....IT DOES. Had to check twice to see if I was watching Power Nation or 'Road Kill'. Fix the truck up right if you're going to keep it. Cant believe you didn't do wheel bearings when you had the hubs off and install a dual reservoir brake master cylinder (for safety sake.
Wouldn't I love to have found one of these, and an F-350 too,....you lucky dogs! Great idea to have Pat pick the 'new' engine,... I'm hoping he decides on the 300 in-line.
This truck needs that 300-6 that you all built. I don't know if the turbo version of that engine has been done yet or not but that's exactly what needs to go into the F-350. Nothing like a 300-6 turbo under the hood pumping out tons of torque. If it were me I would do dual turbos and dual exhaust with a air to water intercooler.
Love that truck. Yall keep going and do those upgrades. I have a 64 F350 also and it has the 292 Y-block V8 and is a Custom Cab so it has the alumium grill and stainless trim around windshield. I would love to do what yall mentioned, lower it,Air conditioning, fuel injection and got to have stacks, cab lights and air horn!!!!
i have this same truck. mine was a road service truck as well. 5.89:1 rear gears. drove it home 30 miles with no hydraulic brakes, just compression braking and the trans lever brake on the rear of the transmission. and they are right, no radio because you are busy driving the truck. and that rear suspension is brutal by the way.
I just watched this episode and it has given me a renewed enthusiasm for my own project. A 75 Ford F350 Ranger Dump 390FE with only 71K original miles. Thanks! The 445 FE would be perfect for this truck.
Throw that monster 300/6 in it Pat built, get a 5 speed with overdrive, some new tires, disc brakes on the front and build a nice looking steel flatbed
@@retiredafce3373 I say steel not aluminum because there is no diet plan gonna make that truck light, 2wd will handle better on poor roads with the weight and durability reasons. I should add this truck needs a massive winch! For goodness sakes please please keep it a dually. Flatbed trucks just never look right to me on a super single rear tire... but I am old!
That's how I could see it. A stout 300 with a better 'box, add some sides to the bed...doesn't need any more than that. Maybe discs on the front, new rubber of course, but a winch and a BFO tow hitch wouldn't go amiss.
Mile Maker 223 Ford I6. Also made a 262 I6 as well. Remove that intake y exhaust, install 6=8 intake and headers. Prob would see double HP and Torque. Otherwise, keep everything else exactly the same.
The bed could be replaced with some diamond plate with a wood floor if you wanted to spend the money. If not, you could totally just power wash the old wood bed or build a newer one
So I realize that those old straight sixes were tanks and made alot of torque, but I still can't believe that in 1964 Ford was still installing inline sixes in a one ton dually. I figured it'd had a 390 under the hood.
i had a 62 F250 unibody ford...with the big 240ci 6cyl...3 on the tree.....it was a good driver....5:13 gears...it felt like it could pull a house down...top speed was 45mph. i traded it for a 72 firebird formula....which got traded off for a 61 chev biscane...and so on.....
I find it quite hilarious that you say the drum brakes on that truck are inadequate when that braking system is what that truck operated on for fifty years. There’s nothing wrong with drum brakes as long as you maintain and adjust everything properly.
Don’t dare get rid of that original engine. Completely rebuild it. Maybe even let it breathe better as well. Turbo that is. And that would be pretty darn sweet.
Gentlemen, I drove a 68 Dodge D300, the last year for the 6 lug dually for Mopar. The 6 lug dually predates the interstate highway system and are not strong enough for hitting a chuckhole at 70 MPH. I believe that the 8 lug drums from the next gen of Ford trucks bolts right on, or you might find that the front discs from the 70s will work with little fabwork. Just a thought
Bury a few sets of points/condensers for the distributor, some plugs/set of wires , a good genset for power. Or maybe just a cheap metal shed-inside a much larger metal bldg- would function as a Faraday cage. IF and when we get EMP'd, you'll have a "driver". One of the few... Of course, having a spare , charged battery, would be nice.
Drop that cab on a much later model 1-ton. Stretch the frame and build a ramp truck. Years ago a ramp truck was "STARTED" in your shop, but the powers above sent the builder and the truck down the road.. It was one of the MOST WANTED builds ever on the show.. So why not do one complete and use it for the show?????
I’d love to see you guys put a 300 hot rod 6 and then wet sand, cut, and buff the pant. And have your logo on the door in retro form. Keep the flatbed and put removable steak sides on it.
For very little money you could install a brake power booster, and a dual master cyl and have power drum brakes which work way better. Didn't see the wheel cylinders replaced or the master cylinder.
20:05 That black crossover cut that corner real close to the truck! Now the question is, who had right of way? The Ford was in motion when this occurred. So did black crossover go out of turn? Or did the PowerNation guys do a "Rolling Stop"? Would've been a bad day if they made contact!
My pup has the same thing in his Backyard trail and hopefully when he dies I will get it and restore it I’m not wanting him to die I just want the truck
I agree. It needs that hopped up industrial 300 that Engine Power rebuilt. That thing was SO nice. Other than the obvious things that need to be replaced like the tires. I'd fix the floor pans and put some rust preventor, sound/heat matt, and then a rubber floor mat down. I'd kill two birds with one stone and swap out that old 4-speed, since it's either got warn out synchros or possibly wasn't synchronized to begin with, with a 5 speed like an NV4500 which would also get you the overdrive you want. Refurb the paint as best as you can, and reproduce the highway lettering on the doors with new paint or a decal. Although since this is a show you'll probably put your own logo on it. And the wood bed, from what I can see, looks recent and solid enough to just use as is, maybe disassemble, put some kind of water sealant on it, and reassemble. I'd also go through an entire steering system rebuild and replace all the other rubber bushings on the truck as well including body mounts. Also although we didn't see it i'm assuming you guys did the rest of the maintenance like diff fluid, oil, etc. Also noticed a new radiator in there. So that's a score.
This show: we rebuild brakes and a carburetor in an old well-maintained one ton dually farm truck. I'd take that truck in a heart beat, it's a great foundation for a great vehicle. Find a totalled 7.3 one ton and swap the parts.
What we wish, as followers of the channel and Elvis, is that it be methodical in dealing with vehicles or trucks, meaning that you look at the car from scratch until it is completed without leaving any worn out things in it as you did in the truck for the Chevrolet.

I’d love to see you guys put a 300 hot rod 6 and then wet sand, cut, and buff the pant. And have your logo on the door in retro form. Keep the flatbed and put removable steak sides on it.
That truck would look good driving thru downtown Hollow Rock TN....the truck actually looks better than the town
P-pump 24 valve like Rich built for his Chevy😁
I love the 300s and Fords if it's at keep it hop it up
This episode is old, but they should build up a Y block ford for it and dyno test it again.
For very little money you could install a brake power booster, and a dual master cyl and have power drum brakes which work way better. Didn't see the wheel cylinders replaced or the master cylinder.
That ain't rust, boys, it's "PATINA". 😂
Frankie slowly becoming Pat with those shirt pocket instruments
Pat's protege
Awesome truck
That looks like a nice town.
Great looking truck.
20:05 That black crossover cut that corner real close to the truck! Now the question is, who had right of way? The Ford was in motion when this occurred. So did black crossover go out of turn? Or did the PowerNation guys do a "Rolling Stop"? Would've been a bad day if they made contact!
Imagine they put that turbo 300 in it. Or a big block. That would be sick.
Very cool............... 👍👍👍👍👍
I vote for rebuilding the I6 like the other, make sure the oiling and pistons are good for truck use.
My pup has the same thing in his Backyard trail and hopefully when he dies I will get it and restore it I’m not wanting him to die I just want the truck
You guys should do something cool with it like build it into an old school 4X4 tractor puller.
This needs to have that 500 hp 300 i6 that pat built, put in it
This show: we rebuild brakes and a carburetor in an old well-maintained one ton dually farm truck.
I'd take that truck in a heart beat, it's a great foundation for a great vehicle. Find a totalled 7.3 one ton and swap the parts.
What we wish, as followers of the channel and Elvis, is that it be methodical in dealing with vehicles or trucks, meaning that you look at the car from scratch until it is completed without leaving any worn out things in it as you did in the truck for the Chevrolet.
my uncle told me he had a ford straight six and he said it ran smoother than most v8s he's ever driven
