      @@PowerNationTV Hello, I have a 1985 F-150 that has a carbureted 300 engine with the NP435 4 speed transmission that a local garage indicated that I should replace the engine because of only 1 out of 6 cylinders producing normal compression.
      After a lengthy discussion, I contended that the head gasket may have been at fault, But the guy suggested that I consider going with a ReMan engine.
      So with that being said, I have been in contact with a few different sources for ReMan engines and due to the supply chain issues I would have to wait for a period of time to receive my engine once I made the appropriate payment of course.
      I find it very odd that a engine that always had a very constantly good oil pressure and no real engine noises other than the 6 cylinder pecks would have made such a drastic change other than a rod going through the block which is not the case.
      As a point of good reference, I have watched and have been rewatching the your various episodes within this series in order to make a better decision in bringing my 85 Ford back from being somewhat dead but still wanting to run when cranked over.
      After all of the skullduggery, I paid the garage for their time and had my truck brought back home where the decision to move forward is purely mine to move forward or maybe sell the truck to someone who will fix it up.

      That's exactly what I said! That engine puts out 2 or 3 times what that clutch can take. Hell, those cheap clutches won't hardly hold up on a stock engine. Let's not forget about how flimsy the pressure plate is... no clamping force at all!

    I drove a tug at the airport that was powered by a Ford I6 300. You could literally pull a jet airplane or 100,000 pounds of cargo on dollys. Now it was geared really low, with a top speed of about 25mph but in first gear it had a hell of a lot of grunt. It could get it moving.

      The ZF 5spd is a failure prone transmission. The hydraulic concentric throw out bearing is a problematic pain in the rear. That requires dropping the transmission every time it needs to be replaced.
      They like to break the tail shaft housings.
      And the internals have issues.
      Plus it's getting harder to find replacement parts for them.

    The cab roof suggests this is not a 64, but rather a 61 - 63. In 64 the cab roof was raised an inch. It's really quite noticeable. Ford advertised this change as increased glass area that made for a brighter, lighter, more appealing cab environment. HA. All the glass was still interchangeable. But, yeah, that's a 64 grille. Grilles interchanged on them all from 61 to 66. Of course each year used a different design & we all learned to tell the year, at a glance, by looking at the grill. Great project by the way!

    I’m just a few minutes into the video so I haven’t seen through the end but a ZF heavy duty 5 speed manual transmission would be a great choice for your 300-6. I had a 1994 F250HD with the 300-6, ZF heavy duty 5 speed and a 4.10 rear axle ratio. I very much regret selling that truck when it needed a clutch slave and I was battling Lyme disease. The ZF has a super low 1st gear plus 5th gear is an overdrive.

    Actually you could have mixed and matched clutch disk to the flywheel and pressure plate. As that’s what me & my dad did, when marrying an old 312 V8 out of an old cop car with a 63 Ford F-100. As we ran into a lot of the same problems you guys did, with marrying that 300 inline 6 to that 63 Ford F-350. Our solution was a little different and involved a 1inch thick extension plate to the front mount, to make up the length we was lacking with the V8.

    If you could have found a front motor mount of a 1965 or 1966 f350 it’s similar to the one that the 223 had you could have simply bolted the 300 like the 223. My 1966 f350 with the 300 six uses a front motor mount similar to the 223.

    Six in a row to make it go. As for the fe no you just need a specific bell housing. A np435 will work great behind a 300 i6, a 351w,c or m, a 360, a 390, a 427, a 429 or a 460. Only ford truck i had in the past that didn't give me any problems was a f150 short bed 4x4 with a efi 300 with true duals and a 5 speed manual. Love my 2015 ram 3500 drw with its straight 6. The 435 has a lower first gear also.

    • @Fordman7575
      @Fordman7575 2 роки тому

      The most fitting option for that truck would be an Advance Adapters Ranger gear/torque splitter box. It's basically a mini transmission that bolts between the bellhousing and the transmission. It adds another shifter and turns that 4 spd into a 8spd! So you could split every gear if you want or just use it for the OD gear. Plus it's much tougher then the add on OD units like gear vendors, etc.
      The other choice is an old Spicer/Brownie box, 3 spd auxlillary transmission. It divorce mounts between the transmission and rear axle. It also gives you a addition low range along with a OD gear.

    To be "that guy..." why not clean up the engine bay, chassis, and drivetrain more? It's also laughable to put an OE spec clutch behind an engine that makes six times the power than the original engine did. That engine deserves better treatment.

      It's almost a bolt in swap if you can find the front mount and bellhousing out of a F600 with a 300.

      @@161Sheriff I would stay away from the ZF 5spd's. They have multiple issues and from what I've heard replacement parts are getting hard to find for them. You could use a dodge NV4500 but that would take some creative adapting.
      They aren't cheap, but I like the Advance Adapters Ranger torque/gear splitter. It's a small but strong auxiliary OD transmission that bolts in between the bellhousing and 4spd transmission. It does add a second shifter and moves the original transmission back like 7" or 7.5" inches though. But I like multiple shifters.
      Then there is always the old Spicer/Brownie Box 3 spd divorce mount auxiliary transmission. They give you another low range, direct drive and a OD gear.

    I am one who liked a hand brake on the transmission, don't see any provision for it here... also liked bellhousing that had its own frame mounts like the original did...

      The old 4 spd's are pretty bullet proof. They aren't as weak as the newer stuff. About the worse you'll get out of them is worn synchro's or noisy input shaft bearing.

    You guys should mod a pair of LS 5.3 heads to work on the 300 and then regrind and weld the crank to 4.375 stroke or 4.425 max stroke to get around 345 to 348 cid lol

    • @Fordman7575
      @Fordman7575 2 роки тому

      Aftermarket aluminum Cleveland heads are a better choice Or some old Nascar 4.5 V6 SVO heads.
      Stroking the 300 crank just weakens it and makes a bad rod ratio even worse. And reduces the RPM limit even more. Plus you don't need a stroker when you've got the turbo. Better off getting a steel 300 crank, grinding down the rod journals to a smaller diameter and giving them a larger radius. That adds strength. Then go with a longer rod and shorter/lighter pistons.

      @@Fordman7575 if done right with a turbo setup or hell a billet crank with thst stroke and the turbo would be fine to 5K rpm, people already are pushing 11K out of the 3.98 stroke but using longer rods and shorter pistons to reduce side loading, they topped the motor out where the longer stroke would be fine anyway

      @@Project-gr6zy 11K? Billet crank? You've got more money then me!! Might as well run one of the old A.J. Billet heads then too. Better go billet block too. Because the block will be the weak link. There's absolutely no need for additional stroke. We are talking about a 64 F350 dually here, not a drag car. They ran these 300's na with very low compression in F600's. A modified 300 with a turbo will be plenty for that old dually.
