I have the skil power core 12v and love them. While its not a ton of power on the circular saw the drill and impact driver have plenty of power. The biggest win in my book is the cost of not only the tools but the batteries.
Me 3. I got the 12v line thinking they would weigh less. They surprised me with their power (don't have the circular saw) but the drill and impact driver almost always do the job. I had a screw that I couldn't finish driving and had to get me 20v impact driver. I tried the 20v on the first 2 of 3 settings and it didn't drive the screw any deeper. Had to go to the 3rd setting and it did finish setting the screw. Doesn't happen often. Really like the right angle impact driver and the power hammer.
finally a manufacturer who understood that a track saw for a lot of folks is handy as hell but we still want the option to use the saw as a regular circular saw.
I’ve been buying makita and festool for years, have a tsc55. I think it’s good to have less expensive brands and models out there mainly to encourage more people to do cleaner work. I’m more on the finish trim side but you can get this thing up on a roof and cut sheathing have it roll off and not break a 700$ saw.
I've had the skil brushless pwrcore 20 drill and impact. The batteries are great. They charge up pretty quick and stay charged for a long time. I don't have the hammer drill. I would get the hammer drill if you are a heavy user.

Though Skil is not the professional brand it used to be, its nice see they're making decent tools under the name. I own a few old aluminum body classics, My Skil 100 power planer is my baby.
I think your take is slightly off here. I don't think it's meant to be for people looking for a track saw, that can also be used as a circular saw, but rather the exact opposite - people who need a circular saw for day to day work, but want the option of running it on a track from time to time for more repeatable straight cuts. Think customers of the kreg accucut style devices, but a more integrated setup. Still a great video and review!
Great thoughts on this. I think Skil did a pretty good job of "knowing their customers" in this case. They are generally DIYers and homeowners looking for a high quality but low cost solution. This saw is capable of being a general construction saw, but with a good finish blade, can also do much of what a track saw does in general. Skil (and their parent Chervon) are really good at delivering high quality at a price point.
Thanks so much for the info and reppin the shirt brother 😉 🙏 For a cordless, not bad, but as a full time professional craftsman, I would highly recommend looking online marketplace, etc. For the woodworkers out there looking for a better cheaper option, I found corded Makita with a solid 55” festool track online used for $300 last year that has been a game changer! I also bought the WEN 110” track for cheap and it fits both Makita And Festool(for when you upgrade down the road 😉) Side note make sure to subscribe to this channel bc you’ll never be disappointed with his content! 😊
I'm right handed and find my Festool, and most other quality track saws, quite awkward at making edge cuts. Either have to hold the tool with my arm across my body or use it left handed, which I'm awful with. My answer was to buy the Kregg track saw and tracks. The saw is 'right handed', (the motor is on the opposite side to the Festool and most other track saws), this makes edge cutting on long boards fast and easy to use.
Thank you for the review. You had reviewed and recommended the Wen track saw, which is another a low price saw (corded). How does it compare to the Skil? The Wen had good dust collection, and came with a 2 piece 100" tracks.
THIS. I was just coming to comment the exact question since in a previous video he had been all in on the Wen as the budget option. A comparison would be great between the two.
They are good tools. I think Skil and Metabo HPT are some of the best value for the money in their respective markets (DIY and value oreinted professional, respectively).
I would love to see you review several aftermarket tracks together, like a head-to-head contest. I've read so many bad reviews for aftermarket tracks that it just put me off buying one altogether. It's a bit overwhelming without the funds to purchase and test each model.
Why not compare it to the corded Wen which i got for $164 last fall. For sheet goods it rocks. Tracks are better and compatible to many. Yes cutting angle cuts not trustworthy but for everything else its the best budget track saw. Saw your review and bought it
Love your channel with I could have one of those saws. I dont do wood work for work just a hobby. I really appreciate you talking like a normal person.
Most tracksaws are plunge saws, they are spring loaded so you push down & make the cut, then when you lift it off the blade retracts... this saw does not do that... As for the track not having a grippy surface, when I made a DIY track years ago, I used a finely Vee-notched spreader to apply silicone to the bottom... it worked great !! Thanks for the vid and Happy New Year ! 😎👍☘️🍺
I see WEN now has a cordless 6.5 inch version that looks the same as their corded version. Sells for $182 with 2 batteries and charger. Adding WEN tracks is another $80 or the better option IMO are the Powertec tracks for $120. I wish they had it or I knew about it before I bought the corded version. If I had to choose between the WEN or the skilsaw I would pick the WEN mainly, because of the track.
This is great for guys who build outdoor decks. Specifically, when they run composite decking long then cut it with a track saw. Why you ask well because with the enclosed track saw (festool type) the plastic from the composite gets caught in the enclosure and stops the blade. Most guys run them with the enclosure open, that's why I feel that the skill track saw will work great as the plastic will not blind on the blade.
I'm thinking that knob on the side is for an edge guide when not used with the track. Is the edge guide included? Most are cheap, stamped and bent steel. It may have fallen and disappeared under your toolbox........ get a magnetic retrieval device....
Good video. You really should have mentioned cutting on a sacrificial/backer plywood. This makes bottom-side tear outs a thing of the past. You can combine a review and track saw education into 1 video that way.
I couldn't help but notice the similarities to my FLEX tools. They're owned by the same parent company. I wonder if the batteries/ chargers are interchangeable?

Hey Matt, would you sell me your Festool track saw? Lol, I know you wouldn't part with it though. I need a track saw, but I don't think this skil would be a good fit for me. Thanks for reviewing these tools, so we know what to look for or run from. God bless you brother!
@@731Woodworks I’m primarily interested in their trim router. I have the 7 1/4” circular saw with a CMT blade that pairs very well with the Bora straight edge and sled and the Kreg Crosscut Station. Its biggest drawback is the lack of dust collection. Their cordless nailers are on sale and I picked up the 18 gauge. It’s just what I needed to finish a fence picket planter box. Definitely not the first brand to have a track compatible circular saw, and not the first affordable brand either. Many brands have done this, and done it better too. The track compatibility was definitely an after thought, and not a very good one at that. No virtual pivot to allow 90/45 on the same side of the track, one slot track is terrible, no anti slip strips, no compatability with other brands. Evolution have had a corded one with Festool/makita pattern track for years. There's a new gen track and a cordless version of the saw coming this year from them.
Wittworks to the rescue to cover that mess...that insert of dustboy was hilarious. I was thinking the same thing. Outdoor tool..not ideal for inside a shop unless you're into cleaning scattered dust everywhere. Where was YOUR RZ mask and ear protection??? :-) My Goal for 2024...eye, ear, lung protection on E V E R Y CUT. They add up.
I too am committed to Milwaukee's M18 battery platform. I purchased saw track from Peachtree Woodworking. It is wider and longer than most and has three slots in the bottom for joining the track. There is absolutely no problem with deflection of the saw track or alignment. Even the clamps are far better quality than most. I purchased a cheap (probably open box) Milwaukee 6-1/2" circular saw with a mill finish base from ebay and a decent pIywood blade. I also bought a saw plate from Peachtree. Instead of riding on the track, this requires a saw plate also from Peachtree. I also make a saw table from two sawhorses, a piece of 1/4" OSB and 1" foam board. This arrangement works far better than I ever could have imagined.
I looked through your links but couldn't find that camera stand you have on the table with what looks like a phone as the camera on it? do you have a link to that sucker? it's nice!
The thing that I automatically see is that it is the track is only for a new Skil saw. I have an older 7¼" circular corded saw that I love. I will not ever need a new saw as I inherited my dad's Dewalt 7¼" saw. Don't like this track.
Matt, First as a Christian I always love to see when a man is man enough to wear the shirts that honor God. Keep that up brother. Secondly, you should explore the Skil PWRCore 12 as well as 20 system I think you’ll be impressed by them. I’ve got many of them and love them. They’ve all had battery and charger, they’re surprisingly powerful and have best LED lighting on some tools for example 12v LED is awesome. Also, the tools are priced better than other big names. I feel like many of your viewers would love to see the Skil lineup in action
I have the Shop Fox W1853 (same as the Grizzly and Sheppach) with the Grizzly branded tracks. I've experience a little deflection with mine on thick, dense materials. However, for the money I paid at the time, I got a decent setup. I am planning on replacing it with the Ridgid once I save up some coin.
The idea is dead on. If all circular saws could go on the company’s track for track saw more people would buy the tracks. Great idea to have 2 saw options for tracksaw. Lots of dust collection or none😂
God I hate circular saws... A really small battery one can be handy sometimes.. but for everything else I use an actual track saw. Completely superior. With a good vacuum connected there is virtually no dust. The circular saws I've tried also feels flimsy... like you can bend things.. the angle adjustment is often just secured in one end.. on thin metal that feels like it can be bent.. It also feels dangerous when the blade wont retract by itself if you lose grip.. I f-ing hate them.

No it won’t
How come all these great woodworking tools are seldom sold outside the USA. Are woodworkers only present inside the USA?

Instead of riding on the track, this requires a saw plate also from Peachtree. I also make a saw table from two sawhorses, a piece of 1/4" OSB and 1" foam board. This arrangement works far better than I ever could have imagined.
where to put the marks...check the directions LOL couldn't resist
Do you think it would be possible to 3d print a shroud? Maybe that could help on dust collection
Interesting. Maybe...
I looked through your links but couldn't find that camera stand you have on the table with what looks like a phone as the camera on it? do you have a link to that sucker? it's nice!
It's called a SwitchPod. You can get it on Amazon.
@@731WoodworksThank you kind sir. I'm down here in Columbia County, AR so much love to you and your channel man.
I might be cheap for saying this but a track saw is a luxury
What is that shirt all about?
I do not need another battery ecosystem. All I want is an affordable corded plunge/track saw. Ridgid maybe one day?
Highly unlikely for RIDGID in my opinion. Probably best bet checking out the WEN, Mastercraft, or catch the Makita on a good sale.
Does it work on other brand tracks?
no, it only works with the Skil tracks
Another reason for the 2 x 57" tracks is that they are less likely to get get damaged /bent in shipping
I knew about it but forgot about it lol
Set screws not bolts
I cant read doe it have picture
The thing that I automatically see is that it is the track is only for a new Skil saw. I have an older 7¼" circular corded saw that I love. I will not ever need a new saw as I inherited my dad's Dewalt 7¼" saw. Don't like this track.
Matt, First as a Christian I always love to see when a man is man enough to wear the shirts that honor God. Keep that up brother.
Secondly, you should explore the Skil PWRCore 12 as well as 20 system
I think you’ll be impressed by them. I’ve got many of them and love them. They’ve all had battery and charger, they’re surprisingly powerful and have best LED lighting on some tools for example 12v LED is awesome. Also, the tools are priced better than other big names.
I feel like many of your viewers would love to see the Skil lineup in action
Wonder how this compares to the grizzly track saw
I have the Shop Fox W1853 (same as the Grizzly and Sheppach) with the Grizzly branded tracks. I've experience a little deflection with mine on thick, dense materials. However, for the money I paid at the time, I got a decent setup. I am planning on replacing it with the Ridgid once I save up some coin.
@prestonlane6253 yea I noticed the grizzly was priced at 229 for everything I was like wow
Does anyone make a corded track saw? I’m working in a shop with power so it seems strange that all these are cordless.
The Makita SP6000J, it’s about $459 by itself, or $519 with a 55inch rail.
@@jj6595 I’m surprised more of these manufacturers aren’t making corded versions of these track saws. It would seem cheaper.
@@matthonea7939 I totally agree with you. Some tools are great because they’re cordless, but that doesn’t mean every tool needs to be battery powered.
😮😮😮 we don't think so
The idea is dead on. If all circular saws could go on the company’s track for track saw more people would buy the tracks. Great idea to have 2 saw options for tracksaw. Lots of dust collection or none😂
So you're forced to use their sub harbor freight clamps. I miss the pre disposable tool days.
Also, use the track-saw itself to align the two tracks. NOT a straight edge.
I like how you could hardly keep a straight face @0:46
God I hate circular saws... A really small battery one can be handy sometimes.. but for everything else I use an actual track saw. Completely superior. With a good vacuum connected there is virtually no dust.
The circular saws I've tried also feels flimsy... like you can bend things.. the angle adjustment is often just secured in one end.. on thin metal that feels like it can be bent.. It also feels dangerous when the blade wont retract by itself if you lose grip..
I f-ing hate them.
Someone just tried to send me a free saw through the comment section. If it wasn't you, watch out folks. . .
It's a scam. I removed and blocked them but they pop up like crazy on here
"No one SAW" Haha I'm dead.
😂
