Something that bothered me about this show that I've never seen anyone mention. I disliked how quickly everyone just adapted to the apocalypse. Like, the apocalypse happened, society collapsed, everything ended, and no one mourned the past world at all. Things just ended and it became about survival of the fittest. That wouldn't happen in real life. Maybe that's the endgame, but there would be a transition period. The transition period is the zombie apocalypse story I've never gotten and have always wanted. Both Fear and the main show Walking Dead skipped over it, I feel. Imagine the zombie apocalypse happens. Society falls. Electricity goes out. No more internet, no more smartphones. No nothing, never ever again. Your friends are dead, most of who you've ever known are dead. How would you feel? In that moment. That's the story I want.
Fear 1-3 is some of the best Walking Dead Universe content. Some of the best plotlines, characters and moments. Seasons 4,5,7,8 are terrible, and season 6 was pretty good. Loved the video Dan ❤❤

my overall thoughts are: Great series, and yes i am even talking about season 4,5 and 6... but idk ever since teddy's nuke went off the show was never the same. things started to not make ANY sense whatsoever and people put their masks on and off cuz the ''readings are clear here'' people really believe their ''enemy'' if he says its good to take your mask off? season 7's story didn't make any sense in the slightest, and season 8 continioued the trend of not making sense and not giving a damn anymore to write an believeable story. i KNEW when they announced season 8 would be the last that it probably would be a trainwreck. and if this is the quality the show would go on with i am more than glad and happy that they ended it now. it is like if they can't even be bothered to tell us a great story without people teleporting everywhere then you can better call it quits. the series was great and i secretly hope what they will make it up to us with how trash the last 2 seasons were by giving us a series about maddie and alicia in L.A.(nothing rushed maybe in like 2-3 years from now) could be really nostaglic for us and if you put some good writers behind that series i think it could make fear having a special place in our hearts. actually looking back, i think fear really went wrong when they killed John by Dakota, and then not having anyone seeking revenge and she just gets demolished by the nuke unsatisfying.
Anyone else noticed how I&A made this strategy where they started the seasons better or okay to get you hooked and then it would go to shit. S4, 5 for sure. 6 too but I actually loved the whole thing. As for s7 and 8, I still prefer their first few eps.
i think most of the times, plots that are very bad written. a lot of twist that nobody asked or needed. All the time "I trust you... i dont trust you" sinergy. All the time aiming weapons to eachother for nothing. All the time sparing some people that will do something bad. It just bad plots afterall. I think the series could be better if the Clarks turn into Villains, tired of beign good or trying to. Im pretty mad about how the series ended and how Alicia was killed and resurrected like Madison (Dont get me wrong, i loved Alicia but they killed pretty stupid like all the Clarks)
to be fair she is bad-ass, its just the writing that butchered her character. and to be honest if i had to cut off my own arm making me sick for months on end, i probably also would start to believe this walker might know the answer if you know what i mean.
The first few seasons was amazing and incredibly fast paced, action packed, thrilling scenes. Then they brought Morgan to be the lead and it literally became just episodes of the walking dead. Same bulshit! 🤦🏽
I'd probably rate it a 5 or 6 out of 10 tbh. I have no idea why, but I just enjoyed the first 3 and a half seasons more than the main show for a lot of it. Then Chambliss and Goldberg just messed everything up. Part of me wishes that they just did like a Fear Retold series where they bring Erickson back and tell the story from the dam, but properly.
I give it a 6/10 bc I am a twd fan. Objectively though, if I didn't know any twd, then it's Dans rating or a bit higher, like a 4 or 4.5. S1- good/okay S2- meh/okay S3- good S4- bad S5- unbearable ( a normal viewer would give up here if not earlier) S6- great/amazing S7- okay S8- okay
I'm rewatching Fear the Walking Dead and I just finished season one. Unless I'm missing something, it seems that the choices of the main characters all caused more harm than good. Nick's drug use caught the attention of the authorities, which lead to his removal. This in turn stressed the family, which made the group susceptible to Daniel's paranoia convincing them they needed to act to safe the detained members. However, if they had just stayed home the army would have left and leaving the vast majority of people behind. Liza was in the process of arranging transport for the group. Instead, they attacked the base, causing it to fall, and killing hundreds in the process. All to secure a release that would have happened anyway.
Everyone bashes season 3 for killing off Travis, but the actor wanted off the show because he got a better gig. Not much they could've done. That'd be like criticizing season 4 for killing off Nick. It was the actor's choice. Granted, I much prefer seeing him killed off than letting his character get butchered by the writers. The one thing I like about both deaths is that they are sudden, unexpected, and brief. The exact opposite of how TWDU treats character deaths now. Their deaths are way better than most main character deaths after the Negan incident. I don't need 20 minutes - 2 episodes to see a character slowly dying.
There may be some hot takes here but... Season 1 was great. Like genuinely. All the way through Season 2 was better. Although it started the trend of introducing characters who seemed important but later just disappeared without much explanation. Season 3 was peak. No doubt. Best season Season 4 was fine. Not bad, not amazing. Just fine. Season 5 was my least favorite. Just kinda boring and not a whole lot happened. Season 6 was mixed. A first half that was just as good as season 3. But they fucked it up in the back half. Season 7 was the most consistent one in awhile. With more good than bad in my opinion. Season 8 was mixed as hell. I hated Mo as a character, but I did like how they ended Morgan's story. Having Madison back was.. meh. Having Troy back was cool, but they handled his character so poorly. There was some good they did though.
Seasons 1-3 was good. Steadily downhill from there on. With good stuff peppered throughout. Never liked Madison. Or Dwight. But still.... overall entertaining regardless of the bad acting and writing
I stopped watching FTWD when Travis died and just watched recaps after. I like the individual characters but writing is nonexistent in this show. I give the show a 4/10 overall. It could have been able to end at season 6 if the nukes went off earlier. I think then it would have been around a 6 or 7/10. Seasons 7 and 8 are easily some of the worst walking dead ever.
Lovd this season just got done binge watching all of the seasons again 😂 but i get what you was saying lol but i loooove Morgan's character! I have a few favs on the show ! The characters make the show ! And then i really liked travis they should've kept him on and nick and hope Morgan finds rick then they reunited
This show started of good with 3 seasons then frank Darabont left as a show runner ever since it changed the show from worst seasons new show runners took over they completely ruined it just wish the series stayed how it was in 3 seasons with Clark family's only then the show wouldn't of been so bad if frank Darabont didn't leave he would of made the 5 seasons some what how 3 seasons were.
I'm dumb, I completely forgot Madison fake died in season 4, it was so forgettable I glossed over it and it only just hit me now.....I'm not the most soundest of minds you might say. But yea everything after season 3 bar season 6 just seemed like a really bad acid trip, you can recall the badness but you can't remember the context because the context just became worse and worse.....man.....feels like I'm having a bad trip right now talking about this show.
It's been crap since season 3. I also hated the change in the opening "music". After season 3 it was some silly Western Theme. I would not call it a embarrassment but only because of Seasons 1-3. But it certainly didn't create any new fans for the franchise.
I give the show a 6 out of 10. Ive said it before n ill say it again-- I almost stopped watching ftwd after season 3B cuz I HATED it. The whole season is about the de-evolution of Nick's character; he proved to be far more "bad" than Madison. No wonder the actor wanted to leave the show! I think the opening 5 minutes & the John Dorie monologue n then the Morgan reveal and THEN the new credits sequence opener is up there with the best moments of television history. I mean that. So for me that kinda outweighs the martha cringeness of the last few episodes of the season. Season 5 is NORTHERN EXPOSURE with zombies, and I have no problem with that! I really like season 5. But yeh, something happened in the back half of season 6. I mean damn the show won an award for the explosion in episode 6, which was pretty amazing. Then Strand turned on Morgan for no good reason. Whiletheyre trying to stop a nuke from being launched. That was the last straw for me, I think. And I only bought the season 7 DVD set so my friend who I got into the whole show could watch it- and get this, he thought season 7 was better than 6!! I only recently watched the first episode of season 8 for free through Prime (I guess hulu doesnt even want it for themselves anymore), otherwise Ive just followed Dan's Reviews this whole season. N I don't think Im going to get season 8 on DVD. N I havent watched any of DEAD CITY or DARYL DIXON... N I think I'm gonna watch something better now. I think I'm due for a TWIN PEAKS rewatch. I’m watching Fear and honestly it’s kind of unbearable so far. I’m getting close to the end of Season 4 and I’m hanging on by a thread trying to keep watching just for the sake of watching all series until I can start watching The Ones Who Live. But Fear is really painful to watch haha I thought it was just me but I guess not 🤣
Turns out once you finish the entire series, I just did last night. Season 5 isn’t actually the worst. Yes, the “help people shtick is insufferable, but seasons 7 and 8. Wow are they bad.
i think 3.5 out of 10 is a bit harsh, i do hate alot of decisions they made. and what they have done with the final 2 season at the end, but i do appreciate fear that it was there. if fear wasnt made i think we all would have missed out on alot of good stuff. season 8 to me is like season 7 but more bad. the only good things that came out of season 8 were things like morgan going back to his old home and leaving to alexandria to find rick, madison reuniting with alicia daniel reuniting with skidmark and strand happy with his family knowing alicia and maddie survived and live on somewhere in the world. that is litteraly the ONLY good thing to come out of season 8 but ofc it is because its the final season lmao. i still cant fathom the cringe season 8 brought us it was on a whole new level.
I just binge watch the whole series. I thought it was absolutely horrible the first three seasons extremely overrated I believe the only watchable part of this whole series is the first half of season four and that is it 3/10 for the whole series
I also don't think that this just justified it's title. Why is it called "Fear" The Walking Dead? The ending was happy with the "let's go help ppl lol" shit. With this title you would have thought that the show would be darker than TWD or be more scary or have a darker ending. But no that's just the name because it sounds cool I guess?

Overall I am glad this show existed because it has given me so great moments growing up however I feel you and the embarrassment of it being attached to the twdu. I adore the characters but the writing is so bad as most people have mentioned. It didn’t have to be that way though. That original outline Dave Er had would have been amazing in my opinion. That story would be a worthy successor to the twdu. Honestly hope fear is somewhat worth it with maybe one of the characters returning in the series later on but I doubt it.
Well I guess I'm gonna skip this series entirely lol saying season 1 or 3 is arguably the best and I already hate this first season...I cannot stand any of these characters, the only thing I'd have to look forward to is the hope of seeing these characters die horribly.

I've only recently heard about Fears original plans of having Madison (maybe the whole family) go bad. That could have been really awesome! Not only would it have been unexpected but it would be so different from anything we've gotten in TWD universe. But instead we got Dumb and Dumber in season 4 and it was all downhill from there
S6 is not trash, people need to stop over-hyping Erickson's vision. Season 6 was a far better season than anything Erickson did. Especially S2, no way you can convince me that snooze fest comes anywhere near Teddy Maddox.

People need to stop overhyping Erickson's vision, the whole group becoming villains only would've been interesting if it was them becoming The Whisperers, which obviously wasn't gonna happen and we already got the whisperers so I couldn't care less.@@Swell-Films
@@CorsonDrax I agree. Serious dialogue doesn't equal good story, and I hated the direction S3 was taking. S4 and onwards has more soap opera type dialogue, but the storylines are way better. S6 balanced Morgan very well, the characters did morally grey stuff without letting go of their humanity etc; it's all handled so much better than whatever "vision" Erickson had while making S3. S3 also forced in politics and other stuff like that which doesn't belong in an apocalypse show at all. Developing the main character into a villain is also a terrible plot device imo.
@bggsz4 I wholeheartedly agree with you, man. I've been watching since 1x1 of Fear first aired on live cable TV... and I've never ONCE thought those 3 seasons were this "amazing" narrative that everyone's painting... I was bored out of mind at SEVERAL points throughout the first 3 seasons. Whenever it was announced that Morgan was joining, I was like, "Thank god" because I probably would've quit otherwise. Morgan, John Dorie, and Althea was a phenomenal trio, and it brought a certain level of heart that the show never had beforehand. I never liked Madison, couldn't stand her character in the first 3 seasons, thought 4A was a massive improvement. 4B wasn't as good... but besides Martha, it was still pretty good. Season 5 (as a whole) was terrible, the only season of the show I've entirely disliked. Season 6 was phenomenal, peak of fear imo, 7A carried on the good of 6 and for some reason that half gets wrapped into "Season 7" as a whole by the audience, despite 7B being where all the bad writing issues come from. And S8, I genuinely thought was good, I was so confused by the amount of hate that Season was getting... the only geniune complaint I had... was Shrike... like that's it. Everything else was genuinely enjoyable to watch. The Premiere was solid, 8x2 was a dorie classic, returning to King County, Morgan's exit, Troy's return, Charlie's death was an excellently handled shocking episode which I'm surprised Fear had the Guts to do what they did there, returning to The Sanctuary, the series Finale with Alicia returning and Skidmark... like? Do I just have bad taste? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
Fear TWD's season 4 first half was honestly not that bad. As it's own thing, it was a fun batch of episodes (some stupidity here and there) but it was generally fun. Then the second half happened 😬 I totally agree with you about season 5. I think it was way over hated. They toned down the stupidity hahaha. It's a 6/10 season for me, it's not bad! Season 6 was a solid season. Some annoying episodes here and there but it is pretty good overall. Theodore Maddox carried 6B. 8/10 season. Season 7 was a questionable season. I like a few episodes. Strand carried the season with his amazing demeanor and villain arch. I actually loved the June and John Dorie SR duo in episode 3. Alisha's arch was foul and a disrespect to her character. Overall season was a 4/10. Season 8 was not that enjoyable to be honest. Some cool visuals, but the colour palette in a lot of the episodes looked horrible. It was almost as bad as season 4, it was horribly washed out and grainy. 3/10 season
I am in the Dave Erickson camp here. I think it’s better to judge S4-S8 as a different show than S1-S3 tbh. Fear 1-3 is a TWD prequel in a sense whereas 4-8 is just a dollar store version of TWD

Why do Tracy feel like a third wheel here? I think they should have let Troy go with her to the unknown as a conclusion of their story.

The characters make the show ! And then i really liked travis they should've kept him on and nick and hope Morgan finds rick then they reunited
This show started of good with 3 seasons then frank Darabont left as a show runner ever since it changed the show from worst seasons new show runners took over they completely ruined it just wish the series stayed how it was in 3 seasons with Clark family's only then the show wouldn't of been so bad if frank Darabont didn't leave he would of made the 5 seasons some what how 3 seasons were.
Just finished season 6 and honestly the actors is what saved this show. The writing gets terrible but man these actors keep me watching
I'm dumb, I completely forgot Madison fake died in season 4, it was so forgettable I glossed over it and it only just hit me now.....I'm not the most soundest of minds you might say. But yea everything after season 3 bar season 6 just seemed like a really bad acid trip, you can recall the badness but you can't remember the context because the context just became worse and worse.....man.....feels like I'm having a bad trip right now talking about this show.
It's been crap since season 3. I also hated the change in the opening "music". After season 3 it was some silly Western Theme. I would not call it a embarrassment but only because of Seasons 1-3. But it certainly didn't create any new fans for the franchise.

I give the show a 6 out of 10. Ive said it before n ill say it again-- I almost stopped watching ftwd after season 3B cuz I HATED it. The whole season is about the de-evolution of Nick's character; he proved to be far more "bad" than Madison. No wonder the actor wanted to leave the show! I think the opening 5 minutes & the John Dorie monologue n then the Morgan reveal and THEN the new credits sequence opener is up there with the best moments of television history. I mean that. So for me that kinda outweighs the martha cringeness of the last few episodes of the season. Season 5 is NORTHERN EXPOSURE with zombies, and I have no problem with that! I really like season 5. But yeh, something happened in the back half of season 6. I mean damn the show won an award for the explosion in episode 6, which was pretty amazing. Then Strand turned on Morgan for no good reason. Whiletheyre trying to stop a nuke from being launched. That was the last straw for me, I think. And I only bought the season 7 DVD set so my friend who I got into the whole show could watch it- and get this, he thought season 7 was better than 6!! I only recently watched the first episode of season 8 for free through Prime (I guess hulu doesnt even want it for themselves anymore), otherwise Ive just followed Dan's Reviews this whole season. N I don't think Im going to get season 8 on DVD. N I havent watched any of DEAD CITY or DARYL DIXON... N I think I'm gonna watch something better now. I think I'm due for a TWIN PEAKS rewatch. I’m watching Fear and honestly it’s kind of unbearable so far. I’m getting close to the end of Season 4 and I’m hanging on by a thread trying to keep watching just for the sake of watching all series until I can start watching The Ones Who Live. But Fear is really painful to watch haha I thought it was just me but I guess not 🤣
The Best they could have done is keep TRAVIS Alive, Not FakeKill Madison in Season 4, not kill Nick, and end it ALL with the CLARKE Family👍🏻

i think 3.5 out of 10 is a bit harsh, i do hate alot of decisions they made. and what they have done with the final 2 season at the end, but i do appreciate fear that it was there. if fear wasnt made i think we all would have missed out on alot of good stuff. season 8 to me is like season 7 but more bad. the only good things that came out of season 8 were things like morgan going back to his old home and leaving to alexandria to find rick, madison reuniting with alicia daniel reuniting with skidmark and strand happy with his family knowing alicia and maddie survived and live on somewhere in the world. that is litteraly the ONLY good thing to come out of season 8 but ofc it is because its the final season lmao. i still cant fathom the cringe season 8 brought us it was on a whole new level.

I just binge watch the whole series. I thought it was absolutely horrible the first three seasons extremely overrated I believe the only watchable part of this whole series is the first half of season four and that is it 3/10 for the whole series
I also don't think that this just justified it's title. Why is it called "Fear" The Walking Dead? The ending was happy with the "let's go help ppl lol" shit. With this title you would have thought that the show would be darker than TWD or be more scary or have a darker ending. But no that's just the name because it sounds cool I guess?
My opinion seasons 1-3 are great although 2 was kinda weak. 4A was awesome. 4B was trash. 5A was awesome. 5B was trash. Season 6 was amazing. Season 7 was absolutely shit. Season 8 was a mixed bag but mostly bad.
Im on season 5, after first 3 seasons it turned to shit imo. Hoping sixth episode gets better, so I'm told. Every 5 minutes, another character goes on this wordy mushy dialogue and its sooo dull and corny. Awful dialogue, they thought the audience would buy into this?? So bad
Overall I am glad this show existed because it has given me so great moments growing up however I feel you and the embarrassment of it being attached to the twdu. I adore the characters but the writing is so bad as most people have mentioned. It didn’t have to be that way though. That original outline Dave Er had would have been amazing in my opinion. That story would be a worthy successor to the twdu. Honestly hope fear is somewhat worth it with maybe one of the characters returning in the series later on but I doubt it.
Well I guess I'm gonna skip this series entirely lol saying season 1 or 3 is arguably the best and I already hate this first season...I cannot stand any of these characters, the only thing I'd have to look forward to is the hope of seeing these characters die horribly.

I've only recently heard about Fears original plans of having Madison (maybe the whole family) go bad. That could have been really awesome! Not only would it have been unexpected but it would be so different from anything we've gotten in TWD universe. But instead we got Dumb and Dumber in season 4 and it was all downhill from there

Season 2A - 6/10 (good follow-up)
Season 2B - 2/10 (drastic nosedive, bad half)
Season 3A - 2/10 (continues to be bad)
Season 3B - 4/10 (gets better)
Season 4 - 9/10 (gets a lot better)
Season 5 - 5/10 (just mid)
Season 6 - 9/10 (great again)
Season 7 - 5/10 (just mid again)
Season 8 - 6/10 (better but only an okay ending)

@@CorsonDrax I agree. Serious dialogue doesn't equal good story, and I hated the direction S3 was taking. S4 and onwards has more soap opera type dialogue, but the storylines are way better. S6 balanced Morgan very well, the characters did morally grey stuff without letting go of their humanity etc; it's all handled so much better than whatever "vision" Erickson had while making S3. S3 also forced in politics and other stuff like that which doesn't belong in an apocalypse show at all. Developing the main character into a villain is also a terrible plot device imo.
@bggsz4 I wholeheartedly agree with you, man. I've been watching since 1x1 of Fear first aired on live cable TV... and I've never ONCE thought those 3 seasons were this "amazing" narrative that everyone's painting... I was bored out of mind at SEVERAL points throughout the first 3 seasons.
Whenever it was announced that Morgan was joining, I was like, "Thank god" because I probably would've quit otherwise.
Morgan, John Dorie, and Althea was a phenomenal trio, and it brought a certain level of heart that the show never had beforehand. I never liked Madison, couldn't stand her character in the first 3 seasons, thought 4A was a massive improvement. 4B wasn't as good... but besides Martha, it was still pretty good. Season 5 (as a whole) was terrible, the only season of the show I've entirely disliked. Season 6 was phenomenal, peak of fear imo, 7A carried on the good of 6 and for some reason that half gets wrapped into "Season 7" as a whole by the audience, despite 7B being where all the bad writing issues come from. And S8, I genuinely thought was good, I was so confused by the amount of hate that Season was getting... the only geniune complaint I had... was Shrike... like that's it. Everything else was genuinely enjoyable to watch. The Premiere was solid, 8x2 was a dorie classic, returning to King County, Morgan's exit, Troy's return, Charlie's death was an excellently handled shocking episode which I'm surprised Fear had the Guts to do what they did there, returning to The Sanctuary, the series Finale with Alicia returning and Skidmark... like?

Fear TWD's season 4 first half was honestly not that bad. As it's own thing, it was a fun batch of episodes (some stupidity here and there) but it was generally fun. Then the second half happened 😬
I totally agree with you about season 5. I think it was way over hated. They toned down the stupidity hahaha. It's a 6/10 season for me, it's not bad!
Season 6 was a solid season. Some annoying episodes here and there but it is pretty good overall. Theodore Maddox carried 6B. 8/10 season.
Season 7 was a questionable season. I like a few episodes. Strand carried the season with his amazing demeanor and villain arch. I actually loved the June and John Dorie SR duo in episode 3. Alisha's arch was foul and a disrespect to her character. Overall season was a 4/10.
Season 8 was not that enjoyable to be honest. Some cool visuals, but the colour palette in a lot of the episodes looked horrible. It was almost as bad as season 4, it was horribly washed out and grainy. 3/10 season
I am in the Dave Erickson camp here. I think it’s better to judge S4-S8 as a different show than S1-S3 tbh. Fear 1-3 is a TWD prequel in a sense whereas 4-8 is just a dollar store version of TWD

The first few seasons was amazing and incredibly fast paced, action packed, thrilling scenes. Then they brought Morgan to be the lead and it literally became just episodes of the walking dead. Same bulshit! 🤦🏽
