- All the deleted footage from the teaser trailer - edited together. The film was “about 30 percent reshot” following disastrous test screenings. The original cut saw Ernest confiding in a bar woman (played by Tracy Ullman) about his plight. The original ending saw Ernest faking his own death - fast forward 40 years to see a still beautiful (but terminally bored) Helen and Madeleine, who comment on a passing elderly couple: Ernest and his wife.
There really needs to be a special edition of this film with deleted scenes, the original ending and a documentary detailing the decisions that were made to shape the film.
I think this movie was going to last almost 3 hours, Meryl said that was the longest film she ever made at that time, was exhausted, but anyone liked the final result, then they had to remade some takes in order to make it shorter and better
Wish they could put the deleted scenes back into the movie and show us the original ending
As much as I'd love the see the alternate ending this movie ended perfectly! I would have loved to have seen how they picked themselves up after the broken fall!
I could tell watching the ending there had to be an alternate ending.
I watched the trailer in the early 90s and laughed because of the refrigerator scene. But when I watched it for the first time I was extremely disappointed because it wasn't in the movie. Still an excellent movie, I just wish we could find a movie that has all the deleted scenes put into the movie. That would be epic.
It was a quite long scene that played during the day... the maid comes into the kitchen in the morning to prepare Madeline's breakfast tray and then she finds Madeline in the fridge... hilarity ensues. It's in the pink script on David Koepp's site. Very nice read. The scene before it with Helen and Ernest in the room of Beverly Hills Hotel was removed as well which was also very funny.

Trevor Thompson i doubt it. The film only has a cult following, so unless someone offers to pay for the other cut, its not gonna happen 😩

Let’s hope because it has a cult following that we get to see the other ending. If a film gets talked about enough then the film folk of Hollywood smell money and publish all they can of the productions concerned.
( I would love my above comment on an industry I only know about through various media and unsubstantiated gossip to come true. Please , fans need this. )
@@simonewardle3742 The bigger concern, as is always the case with films made before the DVD era, is that the deleted scenes simply no longer exist. For many years, studios just threw them away -- there was no reason to preserve them.

Why was Tracy ulman in death becomes her ?
She played a barmaid that ernest (bruce willis) confided in. At the end of the original film she helps him fake his own death.
@@thatscousedude Wow that’s amazing this movie has been my favourite movie since I was very very young me and my brother my brother is gay and I’m transgender I idolised Madelyn Ashton and Isabella Rossellini we would re-enact the scene where Ernest is about Ashoka you boozy flaccid clown flaccid flaccid flaccid!!! amazing movie
