As far as I remember, in an early draft of the script Lisle was supposed to be hundreds of years old and originally offered the potion exclusively to humankind’s greatest minds, such as Shakespeare and Lincoln, but they all declined. Only the youth-obsessed vain and wealthy would take her up on the offer of eternal life, so she made a business out of it.
That actually sounds a lot more interesting than what we actually got. Not to say I didn't enjoy the movie cause I do like it ❤. But it definitely would have given us a bit more lore about Lisle.
She was more than 600 years old according to that script, which kind of implies she's either the devil or antichrist (i.e. 666). I think the actress also implied such but I could be wrong(?)
To be honest, I saw her as the devil. Look at her giving false promise to those who seek to seek immortality. She conveniently forgot to tell them that if your body dies, you'll basically be a zombie. And the allusion to the forbidden elixir is like Adam and eve eating the forbidden fruit; signing a cheque to pay for the potion is like signing a deal with the devil.
Ohhh!!! I could never understand why their bodies fell apart so quickly!! That what she means by take care of your body! This is the first time I've read something like this, thank you!!!
Nah, she was not the devil. At most she's a witch? When Ernest said "Thank god", she sincerely thanked him. So I have a feeling she's a goddess, demoted, or something.
If Lisa born in the 1920's that would have put her in the heyday of Egyptian tomb raiding. That would explain how she found either the source or the instructions to making the potion.
I think her age is an important clue. Assuming the film is set when it was made, that means she was born in 1921. In the early 20th century, there were some big discoveries relating to ancient Egypt - including discovering Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. What if her parents were archaeologists making such discoveries and she grew up amongst the ruins of ancient Egypt... maybe finding the fountain of youth herself or in what her parents had dug up?
this theory makes a lot of sense also in the movie after she gives ernest to drink the potion he replies with "my god" and she seems really happy and then replies "thank you" i find that really interesting
Lisle Vin Rhuman anagrams to AMUN-RA SHILOH. Egg represents human life in occult. Look up Rothschild Amun-ra pendant. Great Garbo was actually at the party. She was the woman, standing next to Marilyn Monroe, in the silver/white top evening jacket and dark blond hair. I was also thinking Lisle may just be the Devil, just selling eternal youth potions for a million follars which I think includes their souls.
Isabella Rosselini mentioning Greta Garbo without saying her name was an inside joke. Isabella’s mom was Ingrid Bergman, the Academy Award-winning actress who was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1915. Greta Garbo was also born in Stockholm in 1905. When Lisle says, “I vant to be alone,” she’s channeling her mom’s Swedish accent as well as Garbo’s. Garbo actually said, “I want to be left alone.” Garbo retired in 1941 at the age of 35. She lived in New York as a veritable recluse for the next 49 years until her death in 1990 at age 84.
If you know the movie well ypu see faces in the potion before she drinks it. She never says she sees them, but if you watch the scene again stop it and you'll see it too. My point being i think it does take souls.
Lisle ( isabella)gave so much character in performing that small part as the anubis or witch is what we called her.. but how she portray the role is definite a 5 star act.. as we all know Isabella was a model of lancome.. she is not an actress... and she played so well considering she has Meryl streep a veteran actress to pin with .. Isabella colors flies and made such a big impression as part of the movie...
She could also be related as " persefoni" because she said herself " I follow the spring, she hasn't seen autumn or winter in years"..and we know that only Persefoni can walk between the two realms..
Greta Garbo IS in the movie next to Marilyn Monroe. Also it's "Lee-sal" not Lisa. As well as her saying "one of my clients simply said I want to be alone". That is a line straight from Garbo...
Honestly, I always pictured Lisel as the daughter of a German archeologist who lead excavations in Egypt. The timeframe fits. I imagine that she or her father just came upon a discovery in one of the pyramids or temples that enabled her to use or create the elixir.
I love this film! I especially love the ending. How Bruce Willis goes off and hides from them, having a long and happy life away from them and doing kind things until his death and then they show up in the back all melted and painted up like clowns. Then add to that the fact they hate each other and are stuck together trying to look after each other. Brilliant comeuppance for them.
You are completely right! The ladies hate each other but get stuck in that “fake friend” two-faced kind of thing that women get stereotyped for. Ernest goes on to have a new wife and a whole family into his 50s because he’s scared by Helen and Madeline to make the most of his life, and Helen and Madeline are just stuck in time, like they wanted, but falling apart more and more. I’ve heard Goldie Hawn talk about an alternative ending where she and Madeline just talk about how they have nothing left they haven’t done over the years and contemplate how boring and empty their life is at this point. But they changed it for a punchier ending.
I always thought maybe she was 71 when she took the elixir but it deaged her and then she's lived stuck at that age for potentially hundreds of years. I would love to see a spin off of her back story and current story. I also always understood that when she said take care of your bodies she was implying "or else." I always assumed the reason their bodies fell apart and died, needing to be painted and maintained is because they actually died. When they died they pretty much became zombies. I figured the other people who took the elixir were still alive just unaging more like vampires. I'd also love to see a continuance or addition with Kate Hudson and Mamie Gummer.
I correctly guessed that Lisle was actually Queen Cleopatra. Cleopatra was an avid reader and student. She studied much about poisons and health tonics and even learned about various face paints (makeup) and their application. So who’s to say that Lisle didn’t discover the secret to eternal youth? I was told that was in fact what was originally planned in an early draft of the script, but later scrapped. However, the Egyptian symbols for life and immortality that decorated the vessels where the potion was housed remained unchanged. Fun fact, Egyptian pharaohs were considered both fully human and fully divine. Cleopatra was therefore the daughter of Isis and a goddess in her own right. Pharaohs were worshiped as gods in life and death.
It makes sense to me because the myth of Osiris and Isis has a story where Osiris was cut in pieces (similar to the women's bodies falling apart in the film) and after putting it together, Isis used her magic to revive him.
She did say Greta Garbo was a client when she says: "As one of my client's simply said... 'I vant to be alone, ja!'" Mad responds: "No! She's not...? Wow." Then at the big party scene, Greta Garbo can be seen played by Bonnie Cahoon.
That is a fantastic catch that I completely missed myself - and I love Greta Garbo! I think I was so young when this movie came out that that reference flew over my head and now I mentally glossed right over it as an adult. I gotta go check that out now!
@@TheFangirlWatches Death Becomes Her is not kid friendly, but it does lend some credence to the idea that comedy and horror are similarly reactive modes of storytelling. Making satirical points about Hollywood, using Hollywood horror genre tropes seems suitable, but it would go over the heads of most kids.
I saw the scene with Goldie Hawn plotting the murder on TV randomly as a child and was thoroughly horrified, then extremely amused as an adult to learn that it was part of a comedy (which I absolutely adore and just rewatched earlier today with a friend).
Lisle is such an interesting character, she isn’t necessarily evil but she isn’t good. The people come to her asking for it but they don’t really understand what living for ever means exactly.
I know I'm sort of late to the party here but about the two dobermans: In Greek mythology, there is a goddess known as Hecate. Hecate is the goddess of magic and witchcraft and she is often accompanied by either one or two dogs. So maybe Lisle is a priestess or a student of either Hecate or Isis
@@isaac3702 yes, I saw that TZ ep also, she used that ancient beetle that sucked the life out of these young men that came over, and then inserted it into her to keep her young and to add another number of years to her life.
I always just assumed she was just a witch. You do bring up some interesting points about Isis, and even though it is probable that there is a conection between Lisa and the godess, there is no evidence to support that they are related, she could just be a priestess of Isis. Back in ancient Egipt, being a priest meant that you studied magic, so it would make sense that a servant of Isis would have the hability to create a magical potion (either by herself, or by calling upon the might of her godess) and she could be trying to make more people belive in magic itself if not in Isis herself, in order to bring the power of that belief to her mistress.
That’s not an invalid idea at all, but there’s usually not a lot of evidence for any theory - they’re just things that fill in the gaps (usually). Otherwise we’d just call them a fact-y, lol.
I remember telling my mom how awesome it was that they cast a woman that could turn her neck all the way around like that. I had no concept of cgi until twister came out.
Wait Greta Garbo is a client. She's next to Warhol and Monroe at the party. Lisle even references Garbo when she says "as one of my clients simply says I vant to be alone" but your theory still would work
I can see it being possible for Lisle to be from Egypt, or lived there, or studied some things from there. I think the potion is more living dead than immortality because there was no regeneration, or warmth, or even functional organs. Those are my thoughts. Thank you for this video.
Lisa I think is the only one who knows how to use it right. Plus before you say anything after Egyptian Symbols I'm going to guess that Lisa is probably Cleopatra.
That’s very true. Or she just hasn’t died yet (or knows how to fix herself if she does). I thought it was weird that Madeline and Helen wouldn’t even go talk about fixing or changing their condition to Lisa, they just wanted to convert their ex to spray paint them forever.
Nice theory! I believe Lisle (who's identity or background I dare not to guess) is a witch in the sense that she uses an ancient magical artifact to create the potion and she takes great pride in bending natural laws. If you pay really close attention to the pink swirly potion, sometimes it shows images of beautiful young men and women wich makes me guess, the potion is made with life-force from young people she collects around the world. If the process of taking a young person's life-force will cause grave dammage to the victim (potentially dying or becoming really older overnight) it would make sense Lisle and her "sect" travel around the world and move constantly so nobody catches up. That would also mean she can be in any place in the world and still have her "raw materials" available. Great upload! I love your Sailor-Moon poster btw 💕
No, she’s from the 1920’s, the height of Art Nouveau which had an obsession with all things Egyptian inspired. I have no doubt she was supposed to be a witch too. 🤦♀️
The fact that she can poke fun at herself with this role shows that she is actually a great comedic actress. She really gets Madeline and, really, the entire cast is fabulous!
Ohh, this is really cool! I've LOVED this movie since I was a little kid, I've watched it countless times but I've never thought much about "Lisle" or her organization or the origins of the magic youth potion (I was 5 yrs old too!), how she aquired it/has continued access to it. I wonder how I never noticed the Egyptian style/markings on the container. I love your idea about gods and goddesses in the present day and how she might be related to them. This really makes sense, it's one of my favorites theories of your now and I'm gonna go watch it again with all this in mind... So cheers, Megan! Have a great week ☺️
YES! Go! Watch! Re-love! This is the craziest movie and I feel like it's been forgotten in today's world. We need a resurgence of love for 90s films - the 80s stuff gets all the attention!
I only just discovered Death Becomes Her about a year ago which is really surprising to me considering I love 80s/90s black comedy movies. It's absolutely brilliant! With it being what drives the plot, it's kind of odd that they never really did go into where the potion came from or who Lisle was exactly. You've got a very good theory - one other thing that came to my mind that supports it is the practice of Egyptian mummification. The whole idea of being immortal but still needing to take care of your physical body fits in well with that.
Lisle was actually revealed to be 600-years-old in a script describing the scene where she has a private meeting with Ernest about the elixer. She also revealed that she murdered prominent figures who declined her offer. So Ernest figures it out on the spot that he is in danger and escapes the scene with the elixer. Although among viewers and fans, they suspect she is lying about her age as well to Ernest. We know for a fact she lied about her age and wasn't honest about the potion until she revealed late for Madeline and Helen that it actually grants immortality. Although in my opinion, I felt she was more honest towards Ernest because she needs him for his phenomenal talents. So she felt she could be more candid towards him.
This should really be made into a SERIES. Could u imagine? So much backstory to tell and could be told from eyes of lisle. The castle. New clients. Paranormal type show missing from todays shows.
With all the reboots they've done, I'm surprised this one has never been made into a series! There's so much potential, even to just retell the movie over 10 episodes! I'd love that!
I don't remember the movie, but i remember seeing two of the ladies fighting. For the mystic lady, i don't think she is born from the gods, but i do believe becoming a God is a possible goal. Two reasons of my disbelief of her being a child of the two, some mythological characters live threw a loop schedual, and if her goal is to be seen as a God. I think the mythos building of power is by followers and wealth they give and of they greatly admired. To me. She seems more of she could of found or came across the something that would of gace her the opertunity to have her power. Some things i believe are a stylised choice but the egg piece with the reminiscents of possibly a lower grade of the cosmic egg or a made tool that what re-fills the pink substance
@@TheFangirlWatches Thank you. 😆 from the items we see if she travels around, i would guess those items would have higher significance and when i saw the picture of the pink drink reviel. I kinda put on your cap into thinking that glow was something some sort of magic going on inside
Death Becomes Her = ADRENOCHROME!!! (Immortality Potion) In Death Becomes Her (1992), a moment before Madeline drinks potion granting eternal youth and life, image of a face is visible swirling in potion, which hints that potion is derived from human essence!!!
Really god theory , i have an another one since i rewatch this movie 2 days ago. Lisle said she comeback every spring. If my memory is good, there is a story in grec mythology about Persephone get kidnaped by Hades to become his wife. And she is authorized to comeback on earth every Spring. She was considered the protector of the afterlife also. The God she served is maybe his husband Hadès himself.
I agree with other people's comments about the 1920s Egyptian dig haydays, it makes sense she might have found it on a dig and kept the secrets to herself.
That's so funny, I was just thinking about this movie! I always thought Lisa was cool and secretly wished I was her lol. A woman of power that runs a secret organization, and looks good doing it.
lol same! When I was little Lisa (or I guess Lisle is her actual name, but DARN IT they sound like they're saying Lisa in the movie!) was my secret obsession. She was so cool and pretty and had killer outfits with man servants. She showed me my life goals! 😂
I always thought lisle looked a lot like Louise Brooks. she was an American film actress and dancer during the 1920s and 1930s. She is regarded today as a Jazz Age icon and as a flapper sex symbol due to her bob hairstyle that she helped popularize during the prime of her career.
Fun little flick. On the topic of the old gods; have you read "The long dark teatime of the soul" by the late great Douglas Adams? It's all about what happens to the old gods when no one worships them anymore.
Greta Garbo is seen in the party scene. Lisa looks like a 1920s flapper. Her hair is not egyptian. Nothing about her look is egyptian. Egyptology was big in the 1920s. She must have been old enough to have had her own looks stopped in the 1920s. Her age dont add up. I feel like she must have learned about the elixir in the 1920s. She could be an alchemist like the Count of St Germain, who was a 18th century alchemist who may have discovered the secret to immortality.
Like The Frighteners, Death Becomes Her started as a Tales from the Crypt project. The hallmarks are there: dark comedy mixed with horror, all-star cast playing against type, Robert Zemeckis...
Lisl's potion reminds me of the one in Anne Rice's Mummy. That potion was easy to make, out of common ingredients, and the recipe was easy to memorise. But it had no flaw regarding physical integrity, since the body healed perfectly when exposed to sunlight.
Osiris can't have children anymore. After his brother (Seth) kills him for the second time, he chopped Osiris's body into 13 parts. And Isis found 12 out of 13 parts and revived him again. The last is a very important part if you are going to have children.
Anyone else notice the soul in the purple potion? After Lisa hands it to Madeline to drink a little man can be seen swirling around just before she drinks it she looks at her ring you can see him same seen just for a second.
Originally she was meant to be Cleopatra which fits with the Egyptian box. It also matches her last name...von Rhoman...of Rome. While Cleopatra was Macedonian, that was solidly part of the Roman empire when she was born. As for her age, she might have stopped counting when she took the potion since she specifically said it halts the aging process and steps it backwards...so technically if she took it at 71 she'd never be more than that age. She may not have invited anyone older than her supposed age to better hide her real identity. All that said, somewhere during production that identity was dropped and she was left as a mystery but a lot of the bits of Cleopatra remained.
Hey Fan Girl... I loved your narrative about Lisle... I'm also obsessed with this movie and Lisle too. Recently I saw some behind the scenes with scripts and outtakes and they mentioned that LISLE LIED ABOUT HER AGE.. Her actual true age was 600+ years old. The out take scripts mention Lisle offering the potion to Lincoln Shakespeare and a few others who denied it.... Anyhow just an interesting FYI about her Thanks for your interesting narrative ...LOVED IT❤❤.
Greta Garbo is at the party, next to Marilyn and Warhol. Also, Lisl references Garbo when talking to Madeleine on the couch and says you can fake your own death or say you “want to be alone” like one of her clients did. Garbo famously said that she wanted to be alone when she became a recluse. And Lisl even adds that famous Swedish “uhh” breathy sound at the end, like Garbo did when speaking.
I LOVE Death Becomes Her! Such an excellent movie, with delightfully dark humor and a good moral to the story. I watched it as a kid but haven't seen it in a long time.
It's funny, I still go back and forth on what the moral is. They act like Ernest dying is the ultimate moral, while the women just keep moving on in hatred of each other. They're not really happy, but they weren't really happy to begin with. Actually... Ernest was their biggest source of conflict and they're shown to be loving towards each other (briefly, at least) when Ernest doesn't play the women against each other and equally helps them with his spray paint touch ups. So, would that make the moral that men ruin friendships? Because, for all the stuff happening in the movie, Ernest is the catalyst that drives all the action and causes the unhappiness for Helen and Madeline... 🤔
Doesn’t she say in the movie that she found the fountain of youth? Like she explains how she happened upon it. I can’t remember it word for word though. I’ll have to come back after I watch it
They changed the age. In the original script, she tells Bruce Willis that she is actually over 600 years old. They also deleted a scene where you get a close-up of the potion and you can see a human soul floating inside it. The film is supposed to be an expose of Adrenochrome. The Dark Crystal was similarly an expose. The Gelfling essence.
Actually, the elixir does not kill you. You remain forever young, but you can’t risk dying as you become a walking corpse because you can’t die…at least on a cellular level.
That’s something I’m curious about - the movie shows like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, but were they dead? If you don’t get murdered in a violent fit of jealousy, do you just live forever? Death Becomes Her is the strangest zombie movie ever! lol
I remember the first time I watched that movie. I laughed so hard watching it, but I've always had a macabre sense of humor. I can't tell you how happy I am that you did a theory on it. Thank you!
I have loved this movie for so long I'm annoyed I didn't cover it sooner. But when I saw it in Starz I knew it was time to jump on it, lol. Thanks for watching!
Greta Garbo was one of her client, when she told Madelyn about disappearing in public view, lisa site an example of one of her clients says "I want to be alone" its one of those Greta Garbo famous quote when she abandon the limelight of hollywood and live a recluse life after the 1930s with Madelyn's reaction in that scene being shocked as an actress she knows who Liisa was talking about .
@the fangirl i disagree with you i think lisle might be the daughter oh hebe the greek goddess of youth or prime life In Greek mythology, the Fountain of Youth is a special fountain the waters of which could either preserve one's youth eternally or restore youth to one who had lost it. Due to her status as the Goddess of Youth, this fountain could only be summoned and used by Hebe.
Lisle is Lucifer. Lucifer is one of the seven princes of hell, overseeing the sin of pride. Vanity is one form of pride. Lucifer can appear as woman, dog, snake or whatever.
You are the only one on the whole thread who guessed it. If you look at the markings on the egg containing the potion, you’ll see that it has leviathan cross( real satanic cross), and number 8, continuous loop, Lucifer/Abraxas/Ouroboros symbolism. “ LISLE VON RHUMAN” anagrams to AMUN-RA SHILOH, look up Amun-Ra in depth , look up Rothchilds wearing Amun-Ra pendant . Look up Abraxas soecifically( Janus, Leviathan, Sophia/Molech/Isis/INANNA/Tiamat/Apollo/Venus= it’s all the same entity in Gnosticism). Look up Abraxas/Yaldabaoth.
It's a interesting theory my theory was that she was a witch that found a ancient book deciphered the text or maybe made a devotion to a god that maybe gave her more power or a special ingredient or spell to make the potion.
"While the elixir drinkers keep drinking, they don't have a pulse, they get blue skin, their limbs stiffen" This was *only* if the person suffered a fatal damage to their body after having taken the elixir, like Madeleine and Helen; if they however didn't, they were still alive in every sense. Hense why Lisle as well as all the celebrities at the yearly union who had taken the elixir long before Madeleine and Helen did (such as Elvis, Jim Morrison and Marilyn Monroe) still looked great, as none of them had physically died (although they had all faked their deaths).
You missed me? Awww, thanks! But... wait... did I go somewhere or did you go somewhere? lol. Anyways, I’m really hoping the movie can get a nice revival for the 30th anniversary. People fawn over Hocus Pocus and Princess Bride, but Death Becomes Her is so undervalued for how fun it is!
It's been a minute since I've seen this movie, always remembered really liking it, I'll have to revisit it at some point. Oh by the way I'm loving Fruits Basket, completely addicted to it, I'm trying to binge watch it slowly so I'm only on episode 7 but I'm still watching it pretty fast, again thanks for the suggestion still can't believe I hadn't heard of it until now I'm officially mad at myself.
Oh yay! Fruits Basket is so good! It gets better as it goes and more character dynamics get involved, but there are a number of episodes that feel like filler. And Death Becomes Her holds up surprisingly well for its age. I assumed the graphics would be terrible but they are still pretty high quality by today’s standards!
@@TheFangirlWatches They really had a dream cast for this movie, Goldie Hawn walking around with that hole in her stomach always cracked me up, can't believe this movie came out when I was 3-ish my parents had the vhs tape, ahh those were good times.
In the original script, she claimed to be over 700 years old when speaking with Ernest, and she actually seems to respect him and consider him a colleague. The person who manages the accounts reminds the audience members who are still on the payment plan to only pay in currencies that are still in use and US dollars are no longer accepted due to depreciation. I actually think the currency reminder is least consistent with 700. If she was only 70, the dead currency issue wouldn't be a severe enough problem to warrant a reminder. Also; if she was only 70, she probably wouldn't have included that US dollar warning. Every mainline currency had deprecated similarly or worse between the 30s and 90s. Such a restriction would not make sense, because there would be very few currencies that actually could be used. They would have just listed the acceptable ones. But if you trace back to the 1790s, the dollar had lost about 94.5% of its original value by the time of the movie. A 700 year old person would notice this and put in such a restriction. If we consider those two scenes canon, I think the 700 year age makes more sense.
Ooh I love a good backstory! I hate to put a fly in the ointment but... isn't Garbo one of her clients? The hint she gives Madeline in "As one of my clients simply said: I want to be alone".
It adjusts the timeline some, but it's not necessarily a fly in the ointment. Although, I'll be honest this video is a few months old so I can't remember if I tied it to a specific timeline now lol.
Ive seen this movie ALOT guilty pleasure and i got to say i never noticed the party goers or any theories about the woman Did not notice marilyn or elvis in attendance
She was probably from from egypt in the origin or had far relatives from this era, like most of the women she hides her true age saying she is only 70 years old.I believe and one other fact is that since you think she might used the potion for her self because she had or could produce potion on her own,she was show so much better than the two women in the end of the movie that became withered and all no matter how much treatment they had! So i do believe that she didn't had any need for this and was the source for this potion making here probably something like a goddess! Maybe her own blood was the elixir or she was something even darker as an entity in the first place like the devil since she so easily can manipulate the rich people around her,and mostly those were chosen to be given eternal life were the richest because lets face it they are the ones that have fame, glory and money to begin with and are the more important creatures in this planet!
Nah my theory is by the time she was born there were a lot of discoveries on Egypt somehow she stumbled over this potion maybe she is just the current priestess on this cult working for Isis the theory about being her daugther is kinda cringey she is just some random woman who got into this by accident.
That’s a great idea even if it weren’t in the original script
It'd make sense...if she's a supernatural entity....also her dogs/bodyguards may have been the same ie shapeshifters
She was more than 600 years old according to that script, which kind of implies she's either the devil or antichrist (i.e. 666). I think the actress also implied such but I could be wrong(?)
I thought she was thousands of years old. Probably ancient Egyptian.
To be honest, I saw her as the devil. Look at her giving false promise to those who seek to seek immortality. I saw this when it came out in 1992 at the age of 8 and that is exactly the impression I got. I mean, it is obvious!
yeh i thought that she was supposed to b the devil too , should have had her in red
Nah, she was not the devil. At most she's a witch?
When Ernest said "Thank god", she sincerely thanked him. So I have a feeling she's a goddess, demoted, or something.
That's why the cost is different for everyone.
If Lisa born in the 1920's that would have put her in the heyday of Egyptian tomb raiding. That would explain how she found either the source or the instructions to making the potion.
And there were curses ofc....notice how she only warned her AFTER she'd drunk the drug
That’s true! She did seem to really accept that as a personal compliment!
That is so true! 😱
I thought she said that just because he accepted to receive that drop of potion on his hand, but what you’re writing is more logical.

If you know the movie well ypu see faces in the potion before she drinks it. She never says she sees them, but if you watch the scene again stop it and you'll see it too. My point being i think it does take souls.
I like that it doesn’t explain her origin, it adds more to the whole exclusive glamour and fantasy of the movie.
Yes!!
That's a really good point!
Also in the myth of Eros and Psyche she gives Psyche a box/jar which supposedly contained beauty
Greta Garbo IS in the movie next to Marilyn Monroe. Also it's "Lee-sal" not Lisa. As well as her saying "one of my clients simply said I want to be alone". That is a line straight from Garbo...
True!
Although Garbo's original line was 'I want to be left alone'
Yes, and she says it in an exaggerated German accent!
Thank you for pointing out the pronunciation of her name.
“…continuation with Kate Hudson and Mamie Gummer”….. Perfection!
In the script Lisa is actually supposed to be Cleopatra, but it was cut out of the final script
How do You know that ?
Also if you looking the potions at times, there are human faces and figures in it, implying that perhaps the potion is made from a human essence
It’s giving “children”
Maybe they are the same goddess under different names
Lisa was originally supposed to be Cleopatra.
That would have been interesting!
I was just thinking that Lisle sounds sort of like Cleo!
There was an episode of the Twilight Zone that had Cleopatra doing something similar to this. She just stole the youth of others to stay young.
@@isaac3702 yes, I saw that TZ ep also, she used that ancient beetle that sucked the life out of these young men that came over, and then inserted it into her to keep her young and to add another number of years to her life.
I like how the potion had four openings. The two boxes the faberge egg and the vial itself. Best entrance in the movie besides Lisle's.
@@TheFangirlWatches of course, I'm just saying. it's fun to make theories, even if they're not true in the end.
I remember telling my mom how awesome it was that they cast a woman that could turn her neck all the way around like that. I had no concept of cgi until twister came out.
Wait Greta Garbo is a client. She's next to Warhol and Monroe at the party. Lisle even references Garbo when she says "as one of my clients simply says I vant to be alone" but your theory still would work
But I think she didn’t give Warhol a good stuff 😄😄😄
No...she mentioned that she was 71 in the movie.
Totalchaos1983 0 she could be lying as to not freak them out to much.
@@kingzilla9859 I thought Cleopatra too. The asp was just a decoy
@@Totalchaos0228 she probably said that to make it sound more believable
Two things: a Jackel is a dog, so yes you nailed it with the dogs. Also it’s, Lisle, like in the sound of music, not Lisa as in Simpson.
I hope the remake goes into her backstory, I've always been curious about how the potion and organization came to be!
REMAKE!?
It'd be awesome if Kate Hudson played her mom's role in this.
Remake?
The potion may be adrenochrome, she is merely just a piece to a much larger puzzle
Maryl Streep is amazing in this! She really lives up to her inner diva.
The fact that she can poke fun at herself with this role shows that she is actually a great comedic actress. She really gets Madeline and, really, the entire cast is fabulous!
@@TheFangirlWatches I realized that since I watched “She Devil” with Roseanne Barr
That’s not a bad angle at all!
@@TheFangirlWatches Thank you. 😆 from the items we see if she travels around, i would guess those items would have higher significance and when i saw the picture of the pink drink reviel. I kinda put on your cap into thinking that glow was something some sort of magic going on inside
YAY!!! I loved this as a kid...I mean Meryl Streep and Isabella Rosalini 🥰
Goldie Hawn is no slacker either. I always remember her bleeding hands as she rang that cloth - and that crazy fat suit she had for a scene! lol
Goldie Hawn is way better than both of them!!!! Love her so much and this movie was hilarious to me!!!
This is one of my favorite movies and I always womdered about Lisa as well, thanks for covering this topic.
Her name is Lisle. No idea why the narrator keeps mispronouncing it.
Her name is not lisa. Its Lisle. Pronounced Lee-sull.
Death Becomes Her = ADRENOCHROME!!! (Immortality Potion)
In Death Becomes Her (1992), a moment before Madeline drinks potion granting eternal youth and life, image of a face is visible swirling in potion, which hints that potion is derived from human essence!!!
I really liked that movie, your hair looks really nice!
Thank you!! And this movie is so good I’ll be upset if it doesn’t get some 30th anniversary revival soon!
Something else happened in the 1920s... Mummy excavations... Perhaps she is a mummified Egyptian resserrected 71 years prior during the excavations...
Ooooh, interesting idea! 💕
This analysis was fire!🔥💪🙏💖
I'm so glad you liked it!
Her name is Lisle not Lisa..
I always thought lisle looked a lot like Louise Brooks. she was an American film actress and dancer during the 1920s and 1930s. She is regarded today as a Jazz Age icon and as a flapper sex symbol due to her bob hairstyle that she helped popularize during the prime of her career.
I watched it as kid with my mom. It scared me as a kid, too. It was so freaky to me that they wouldn't die even after all that happened to them.
Fun little flick. On the topic of the old gods; have you read "The long dark teatime of the soul" by the late great Douglas Adams? It's all about what happens to the old gods when no one worships them anymore.
That sounds like a really neat concept to explore in a book. Unfortunately, with my dyslexia and 3 kids under foot, I don’t get much reading done.
I hadn't heard that about either movie but that's very interesting!
Lisl's potion reminds me of the one in Anne Rice's Mummy. That potion was easy to make, out of common ingredients, and the recipe was easy to memorise. But it had no flaw regarding physical integrity, since the body healed perfectly when exposed to sunlight.
ahhh this is one of my favorite movies
It is soooo good!
One of my absolute favorites!!
It is a classic that deserves a lot more love than it gets!
But Greta Garbo is Lisle's client! She quotes Garbo when she tells Madeline "as one of my clients simply said, 'I just want to be alone ah ah'".
Finally I saw something about her, I was more In love with this character than what I am about the others
Osiris can't have children anymore.
After his brother (Seth) kills him for the second time, he chopped Osiris's body into 13 parts.
And Isis found 12 out of 13 parts and revived him again.
The last is a very important part if you are going to have children.
Ancient Egyptains were marvelous story tellers, weren't they? 😂
0:47 Lisa IS NOT LISA! SHE IS *LISLE.* Basic responsibility: get the names right.😡
I'd love to see a remake of the movie but only with the original script.
I love this theory! I was wondering if she may have been Death collecting souls, and my search pointed me here
Ooooh that’s an interesting take on Lisle too!
Anyhow just an interesting FYI about her
Thanks for your interesting narrative ...LOVED IT❤❤.
It could be made a prelude of this movie using Harold Robins's book Descent from Xanadu.
My favorite line... "NOW A WARNING!?!"
i saw a comment theorizing that she's supposed to be Cleopatra and i believe it
I LOVE Death Becomes Her!
I’ll have to come back after I watch it
This year, she is actually 71 years old.
I thought she was the daughter of Osiris, due to the people who drank the potions’ bodies became blue, undead... just like his.
That’s something I’m curious about - the movie shows like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, but were they dead? If you don’t get murdered in a violent fit of jealousy, do you just live forever? Death Becomes Her is the strangest zombie movie ever! lol
It’s suspected by many people that one of the Doberman’s ancestors was the Pharaoh Hound.
@@TheFangirlWatches Oh, no problem. I love your theories. :)
@@maurverngallard4607 Thanx but I didn't want to get down to nitty gritty. It's *only a movie*.

"While the elixir drinkers keep drinking, they don't have a pulse, they get blue skin, their limbs stiffen"
This was *only* if the person suffered a fatal damage to their body after having taken the elixir, like Madeleine and Helen; if they however didn't, they were still alive in every sense.
Hense why Lisle as well as all the celebrities at the yearly union who had taken the elixir long before Madeleine and Helen did (such as Elvis, Jim Morrison and Marilyn Monroe) still looked great, as none of them had physically died (although they had all faked their deaths).
Lisle is the source of the potion and subsequently deals it out
The potion also rewinds the body clock so anyone any age could go to lisle to get fixed!
The box which the potion is kept in has an ancient Egyptian Ankh symbol on it…
Thanks fanmom, now I know what to binge in a definitely totally legal way

You missed me? Awww, thanks! But... wait... did I go somewhere or did you go somewhere? lol. Anyways, I’m really hoping the movie can get a nice revival for the 30th anniversary. People fawn over Hocus Pocus and Princess Bride, but Death Becomes Her is so undervalued for how fun it is!
@@TheFangirlWatches I totally agree!

Whoa! I have that Sailor Moon poster. Still. After 23 years.
Ive seen this movie ALOT guilty pleasure and i got to say i never noticed the party goers or any theories about the woman
Did not notice marilyn or elvis in attendance
Love the new hair colour ❤️

Nah my theory is by the time she was born there were a lot of discoveries on Egypt somehow she stumbled over this potion maybe she is just the current priestess on this cult working for Isis the theory about being her daugther is kinda cringey she is just some random woman who got into this by accident.
