Eddie was such a fantastic player---that performance on the old Gibson Harp guitar is priceless!
Eddie peabody was the original headbanger
There are other reasons for playing the Banjo, but yes. And, wonderful to see - and hear - the Gibson Harp Guitar.
1:54 Good use of harmonics!
And the banjo is unreal. I wouldn't believe it was possible to get those sounds out of that thing!
the first metalhead.
That's the father of the grandfather of Jimmy Page! BRILLIANT!
REally? I didn't know that
i want that guitar, man that thing is out of this world....so is Pbody...he always gets 5 big juicy shiners....tx
Terrific tremolo, best version of "Mighty 'Lak A Rose" I ever did hear!
Ladies just love tremolo hands.
'imagine how fast he could wipe his ass'
What a rendition of "Some of these days" Terrific, really!
that was musically awesome but I can't help but laugh at the forced fun the girls were having. thanks for sharing!
Yeah, and that's why you probably never got any. There was nothing forced about it. Those women were having a great time and I'll bet old Eddie had a an even better time as well after the camera stopped rolling..
eddie was consireded as earliest rock n roll
WOW, and think I'd never heard of him before, a certifiable genius.
Eddie was truly a gun on those instruments....When real talent walked this earth and it was just a day job to them..... or was that Bill Nye's Dad...???
Geez...think I'll add tenor banjo to my list of dame getters.
I think it’s a standard or plectrum rather than in 5th
Trying to work out the tuning on the guitar and bazouki
bffff, amazing solo
Another few minutes and he would have played that dress right off that blonde girl dancing!! lol
LMFAO
Man, those chicks in 1928 were hot!!!!
Well not anymore xD
Now American women are just FAT.
or 56%
really what happened !
I agree
Thanks for posting, Jack!
Man!!!Is this guy WIRED !!!!
Brilliant stuff!
guitar players always get the girls
I must be really ugly then :(
Crazy beautiful!
This is sooo cool. Thanks for sharing.
The very first headbanger :)
The Jimi Hendrix of the pre-electric era!
Ed you madman! I think he was making that one gal a little uncomfortable towards the end there when he started really getting into it.I think she thought Ed was starting to come unhinged like he might suddenly throw the banjo out the window and leap on her. Yargh!
Супер исполнение!
The first guitar Hero shreeding
INSANE...and here we think that Eddie VH was master....Just like the automobile..they were 'mastered' many years ago, we are only now just fine tuning them.
Haha! Wow! First guitarist to get the girls!
legend
Wonderful !
last one on tenor is One of These Days
Fantastic video. Thanx!
Hello there.......just noticed your question from a year ago and wanted to tell you
that the name of the first song Eddie plays is called "Marquita"------
beautiful, isn't it....? He was THE best. Thanks.
Just what IS that instrument he plays at the beginning?? It looks and sounds like an octave mandolin, but I can only see six tuning pegs...
Oops, nevermind. I just found out it's a banjoline! I just love these things...
Home brah was shreddin' fo' shreddin' was shreddin'
Never a "country picker," he was a sophisticated jazz musician who happened to play banjo. It's easy to surmise that he was originally a jazz guitarist. Same as Bela Fleck today, but Peabody may have been even greater. He was most likely the greatest banjo virtuoso of all time. Expanded the possibilities of the instrument, much like Jascha Heifetz on violin or Art Tatum on piano. I saw him playing solo banjo at the Elks club w/ my father in 1962. I'll never forget it!
It's the other way around. The plectrum banjo was the standard accompaniment instrument for jazz bands until the 1930s, when it was replaced by the new archtop guitar. At that time, many banjo players switched over.
The second tune here is: "Mighty Like A Rose".
wooow!! great!!
Awesome.Today he would be a metal player.
that was how headbanging was invented?
i own this on 16mm film
Can you upload it?
@@dantep4966 I have many other episodes that are all splice together into one real so I don't have them separate
@@djpaulywood do you know if/ where the footage is available? I would love to see this in higher resolution
@@dantep4966 no i dont - were lucky to see as is :)
yes, plectrum of course. I got the tune right. I see John Reynolds (plectrum master) frequently here in LA.
Roy Smecks buddy !
Excellent! Was this a "soundie" clip?
You didn't think to mention his Gibson Harp Guitar in the description?
@ufoolable Harp guitar, made by Gibson (I think).
Holy crap smiling the whole time
If this guy played guitar instead of banjo he would be a certified legend
He did. He was recognized as playing most all stringed instruments. He said he would specialize in the banjo as it was disrespected. He was a major star for decades.
Hey! I may have sworn off fretted stringed instruments, but I definitely have NOT sworn off girls!
mans got the banjo rizz
Is that first one a banjola? And what is that insane harp guitar? That's too cool!
Smilin’ Eddie Peabody, I’d be smilin’ to if the girls were happy. Thank you.
Maybe it's a stupid question, but what is the first instrument? Tymime (below) thinks it's a banjolin, but it doesn't look like any banjolins I've seen pictures of.
It's a banjoline . With a basic tenor banjo type configuration except the high strings are doubled . It was possibly tuned C G D A with the D being a double course of strings tuned in octaves and the A being a double course of strings being tuned in unison . I read he is credited for inventing this instrument .
Thank you!
guy looks like G.E. Smith.
Go harp-guitars!!!!
ive never heard of this guy before can anyone tell me what happend to those lovely instuments he played i guess he must have big in his day more so in the states
The original "that guy" with a guitar at at party
Hello and thanks for the great post! Are there any other clips of Eddie playing the harp guitar??
Eddie was a fabulous player, a part of the history of american music. How come this video has attracted so many moronic comments?
i was thinking the same lollll

Lovely, great artifact. Really, why doesn't it work this way in real life when you whip out a plectrum guitar? Well, maybe it works that way for others, but never did for me. :D
@ukulelezaza thankyou :)
Party monster
Does anybody know which song Eddie plays first? I love it.
It's called Marcheta. Found the song by Nick Lucas just now, and was reminded of Eddie Peabody. I'm glad to know the name of the tune finally.
What year is this?
what's that crazy guitar thing 1:30s ?
You players of fretted instruments think you are all that, but wait until the keyboardist whips out his organ.
would you rather see a church organist or eddie van halen play in concert in your basement? now go home.
You kind of missed the pun.
what?
Oh, I see . . .
his "Organ"
Haha!
James Rozoff A lot of people lack basic reading comprehension, especially in the youtube comment sections.
"that fucked-up looking guitar" is a real musical instrument called the harp-guitar. Look it up if you're curious.
I wish I would get to marry one of them ladies
I assure you that would not be possible as they probably are dead.
I say!
That looks like,a banjo mixed with a mandolin body? Even sounds sorta compressed like one too
First the ladies were crowding around the piano player, then they gravitated to the banjoist.
He pulled out all the stops for the blonde.
Early psychedelic mind whip metal...can't judge a book by its cover. This guy is a wolf in sheep's clothing
LOL!
The first song Eddie plays is called "Marquita". He was THE best.
anyone know of guys who still play this style today?
Tyler Jackson
Little Roy is a good example . He is excellent at Scruggs style too .
The second tune is "Mighty Lak A Rose". The third is "Some Of These Days" . . . anyone know the first?
Marcheta
Jason Hill
Thanks! I figured someone had to know.
His last name is Peabody not Peobody
@2:35 sounds like a John 5 solo
save the hottest mama for last...go! go! go!
as mulheres e a musica da aquela então sim foi uma combinação de Deus
you have right!
yeah man ! lml thanks :)
getting the babe
harp guitar 1.21?
Who sez banjo player don't get the chicks! Tak it of Betty!!
"why Yes, I am married, why do you ask?"
I tell ya, the banjo is a real chick magnet.
I got my fair share of chicks from playing guitar, even a wife, but I've yet to attract anything but other men since I took up theater organ. I wonder if Jesse Crawford had this problem.
whats the name of that guitar he plays with the bass strings?
gibson u-harp guitar, they are very very very rare and very very very very expensive if you can find one, but they do look fuckin cool.
iirc the ones that are still around are in the single digits, i know for a fact that there are no more than i think 15 in existence but its been awhile.
I have 16 of them.
It was his spats that did it
Gotta agree with you there.
As good as that girl's legs.
SHRED
Dat face at the end of the video
Young ladies were more of a banjo kinda ladies than piano ladies. Slap that G string.
Wow look at him headbang,lol
haaaaaaaa
Poor pianist lost all the girls in the end...🥺
