(Storyteller) "this is a frightening place to end the story for now." (viewers) "carver is a hero!" (Storyteller) "am i a joke to you. did you hear what i just"
I think too many people want Annabelle to be something she logically should not be (yet, at least). For the moment Annabelle has had it good: she has a reliable coterie she has (had?) lots of "friends" (among vampires that's completely unusual, vampires are monsters who need to eat people to keep existing), she has kept two mortal lovers (her "touchstones" I guess) she was somehow turned into the "face of the revolution" and yet circumstances allowed her to keep her humanity high. That cannot (should not?) last. Vampires kill, sooner or later they do. And those like Annabelle who are supposed to be revolutionaries are forced to do that sooner than others (and we should add that she's a frenzy prone Brujah). All of this MAKES SENSE because Annabelle is a fledgling, not even a neonate. In game she's been embraced something like 1 year ago so it's perfectly fine for her to believe she can oust the Camarilla from Los Angeles without violence and killing (which is like believing you can kick the mafia out from its turf without retaliation...). Now the war with the Camarilla seems ready to explode and there were hints the Second Inquisition might soon add supernatural agents (aka priests with true faith). Annabelle might have to confront the harsh realities of the World of Darkness really soon and Carver might be her best chance to turn herself into the Anarch leader she needs to be in order to survive.
Someone gets it. I find that sometimes Annabelle has a higher humanity score then some of the comments. She was just embraced by a Bruja who see the fire of rebellion in her eyes. And let her make her own way not his way he already tell her she ows him nothing. And yet I see way to many comments saying she should be punished. But by who? And for what exactly?
@@vincentfrick6880 I think punished by holding a really hipocrital vision. But she is the only kind of person I would allow to hold an hipocrital vision (she is really unaware of the consecuences of her own actions), because she means no harm at all while the "consecuences" are due bad people taking advantage of her. So rather than hypocresy is lack of understanding on how kindred not only fight their inner monster, some kindred revere their inner monster and not everyone plays by humanity rules. My favorite play in this is Inquisition vs Sabbat since they know the real deal and dont pretend vampires/kindred are human, while Cam and Anarchs like to prettend they are alive nor that humans are "good people". Anabelle didnt realiced yet she is a ticking bomb.
This story has no consequences, and Jason never really enforces much rules related to humanity or frenzy. I don't remember ever she having to deal with her clan bane, for instance. The version of WoD they play is sugar-coated and they all have pretty thick plot-armor, which I think is a result of being a show with an audience, high production value and official backing from White Wolf, with a product behind. Annabelle is a shallow character, but that is mostly a result of how the story is handled, as she is never tested or forged to gain depth.
@@HenriqueErzinger Well, I think it's just fitting though. For the length of the story and the time it took in the setting. She's new. Terribly, new. Other protagonists in other VTM games are forced to adapt so quickly to what is happening. Like Bloodlines 1, a protagonist dropped in the middle of a power struggle between 4 opposing sides, Anarchs, Camarilla, Sabbat and the Kue-jin, didn't have a sire, and had to rely on the pity of Elders.. but that isn't the thing here. This is very much a more contained setting and there is no rush for her to learn, but sooner or later, she will have to violate her convictions. Given time, all Kindred succumb either way. She hasn't really had to fight for survival yet, not on her own, she's always had people who has her back. Even Nines himself. But you know, I think it will come to that.
I love Tal. He's one of my favourite people in the world. Always has an interesting idea and outlook, and constantly causes me to focus on another view to the picture.
This is one of the best Epilogues ever. Finally, I'm a bit invested in Annabelle's character. I'm actually curious what she'll learn from hanging out with her sire. Carver's awesome as ever.

Man, I wish Carver had more screen time in this series! Totally understandable that CR takes up so much of his time... I'm just whining. :p Thanks for the great episode!
I literally just binged all of the LA by Night found it as it was mentioned on Lore by night podcast. I was curious then I got hooked. I’m very new to this RPG thing and am quite excited to play. This program has helped me understand the dynamics more and how it is played. Some of my friends helped me through our first gameplay as I am literally a noob. Thank you so much for this can’t wait for the next season. Jasper and X are my favourite characters. Suzanne makes me smile every time she comments on her dice rolls with the ankhs and stars. Love everyone playing this game they are all awesome in their own way.
Carver was just a caricature before this epilogue. Now we see the real Carver, a true Anarch fighting against the system while knowing his own limitations and those around him. He's limited in his ability to persuade Anabelle but he's doing his best to show her the reality as he sees it and it might actually be working. Carver is excellent in this epilogue. He's gone from being a forgettable side character to being a real influence. An unpleasant personality but someone who has experience and is trying to change things in his own way, even if that way is callous. Kudos to the actor.
Jason Carl is a master. He wasn't even looking when Annabelle drank the blood and he still figured out what she just did even though she was done when he looked up.
She was pretty dramatic and overt about it, he obviously looked up in time to recognize the gesture, there's nothing impressive about it. You say it like he's psychic or something...
A great conversation between a childe idealist and neonate iconoclast. My favorite characters were almost always Brujah Individualists. Finding the balance, guiding the Iconoclasts and the Cam, or the Idealists and Anarchs, towards working together. Depending on the campaign.
@@john-paulvassart3280 I mean, she is a neonate. Just some month ago she was just a rebel girl who did protests and torched some buildings but now, she got herself involve in a world of monsters. It's understandable that she still holds on to her ideals. Give her some 50 years of unlife or so, she'll get it. LOL
@@pepethefrog6809 She cries like literally always. If she's annoyed - she cries. She's angry - she cries. She's uncertain - she cries. What the hell? I think for most people this character's annoying not only because of how she behaves, but also because it feels like this character literally has no depth, no arc, she's not changing. All she does is crying. It was ok for first 2 seasons, but this is the end of season 4, she's 1.5 to 2 years old as a kindred - and NOTHING has changed. Like literally. And considering circumstantes - she's useless even to her friends. Why do they keep her around other than the fact she's a PC? She's a liability. Why people follow her as a leader? She didn't give them any reason but one rally thing. I mean Erika can add depth to her character. We know that. And i don't get it why she doesn't do that.
@@vitorossi7839 Well, think of it as something happening in reality. Someone who got murdered one night and suddenly thrown in the world of vampires who she never knew existed. She is forced to accept she is a monster, but her humanity doesn't accept it. This is how I look at it, not until she kills either by her own will or by the beast, will she be able to accept her place. Her ideals are pipe dreams, this is what having high humanity entails. She wants a place where Kindred can "rule" themselves but she's much too young to understand, the Anarch have tried that and it failed. First, she needs to accept what Carver told her to do, stop putting other people up to her standards. If the story progresses that way and her actor applies that knowledge then she'd be better. But you know, it's a slow process. It's not gonna happen in just 2 years not even 5. You know there are also Kindred who feels the same as her, right? Clinging to their humanity? Those Kindred who reached Golconda and are able to eat and even walk under the sun again?
I discovered LA By Night a month ago . Since then I've had glorious weeks of being completly obssessed with this series. I devoured everything from season one to this episode. Now I have to wait for the next season and I really don't know how am I going to handle this.
I've never seen the actor that plays Carver in anything else but he is excellent. Perfect voice for the character and such a complex portrayal. The biggest question is when is season 5 coming!!?
That's Taliesin Jaffe known from Critical Role. If you like DnD you should check them out. The first few episodes of the first season are rough on the ears, but it gets better and I like his characters arc.
Not a lot to talk about this episode, most of it was what we already knew. 22:06 That is some deep stuff. I didn't get why Annabelle ran away, but with this as context, I get it. Songs to listen to after this episode, Burn it to the Ground - Nickelback and Last Resort - Papa Roach, very lame but appropriate.
I know this is a pretty late comment, but I absolutely love this series! Jason Carl is a wonderful storyteller and the entire cast does such a wonderful job with their characters! Well done to everyone involved!
I just I need to say this I didn’t know I could love Carver anymore than I already did but this episode made my heart hurt for him and love him even more!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I completely forgot the first time I watched this that Carver said he was going to be heading to Indiana. I live in Indiana and the fictional prospect of there being kindred (aka Blanks, thanks Vince Caso who plays Gregory Dimitrios) is quite interesting.
"You hold everybody up to your standards... that's a mistake.". She got high moral standards and that is bound to break, yep, especially in the world of vampires where every kindred lies, steal and kill to survive.
Carver really makes me think of the similarities between radical Anarchs and Loyalist Sabbat -- they have a lot in common, and I've always wanted to see that get some focus. Who knows, maybe the Sabbat will get that in V5. Also, Taliesin steals every scene he's in. Too bad we haven't had Smiling Jack though.
I've been missing LAxN for a while now. Been thinking about the things Carver says to Annabelle in this epilogue. I have been very convinced that Carver is either Sabbat or Sabbat adjacent in some way.
Taliesin was made to play in the Vampire game, I love his portrayal of Carver and I hope I will see him more in the next season :> Overall, that was an awesome story :)
Can one be the necessary unexpected force when it counts regardless of consequence and still be capable of finding one's former self? The short answer is no. Can one make the hard decisions and "Live" with the outcomes? The short answer is yes. One of the tricks or hacks to life is making choices one can live with. Another is passing that wisdom on to others who have an ear to listen!
Jeeze, ever time I see this one I come to realize how screwed up their lives really are. This my 3rd go around watching it. Lol. Oh and I recently discovered dvds for Kindred The Embraced from back in 96. This is really amazing. The interactions. The story in general. I really hope that after Covid19 and they can film again the story continues.
No. She is constantly insulting her superiors and breaking the Masquerade. She is untouchable and extremely annoying. Worst character on the show and will no doubt find a reason to cry in every episode she's in.
@@andresuzart2766 She is the only bad thing about the show and this episode shows her to be a complete hypocrite. Constantly badmouthing Carver and now he's the one "with all the answers". Every episode she's in I dislike her more and more.
Probably not. The city is mostly controlled by Anarchs, and the Camarilla has much more important things to worry about at the moment. Also there have been far worse masquerade breaches throughout the show than Annabelle jumping into traffic (like Jasper just walking around in the open or Victor's livestreaming). Like most complaints about Annabelle, this one is irrational and silly.
Short and excellent. But before Annabelle will be back, all her "friends" could be definitely died ! What's the point of the classic "Hero's Training" if the chosen Hero come back after the Apocalyptic Battle ? Except , of course , if the Evil Side gently wait . The Evil Side is always so kind !!
So this is what happens when Victor let's his crew make their own mistakes. We get Jasper breaking a mirror, Annabel running off with her anti-hero sire and Nelli getting mind judo'd into thinking her crew was "fucked up" to her. ... Small victory is at least they can't call him an asshol... never mind. Good ending though and am looking forward to their development, hopefully Annabel will chill with the crying when she comes back. This season might as well be called cry me a river lol. MVP has to be Victor Temple, runner up Carver and the best support goes to Vanavar. My only hope is Therese makes it out alive, she's my kind of evil. =)
If Annabelle is the Mary Sue of the chronicle, Carver is the anti-Mary Sue. Everyone thinks Annabelle is special, no matter how much of an idiot she is; everyone thinks Carver is an asshole, even though he has (in-story) done nothing to deserve it.
So I finally caught up with it all. I made it in 2, maybe 3 weeks... ow shoot.... I want more :( But I must say, I am really impressed. Obviously there are characters I like better than others, but all the cast and characters are amazing. I look forward to have more of all of them as soon as possible. And something else: Jason Carl, at the very beginning I wasn't sold about your way of narrating it, but didn't took long to see how brilliant you are. You're not a voice actor, but you do manage to deliver very unique NPCs in ways that there's no doubt who's who. It's visible how passionate for this world you are. I can only hope to see you and all the others soon.
Annabelle: "What am I missing?" Factually: a spine. Learn to focus the Beast or become it's slave. You can't cry your way through life. Annabelle: "I'm not a pacifist" Factually: Yes. Yes you are. With a lot of opinions, but no will to back them up. Either learn from Carver or walk into the sun.
I'm personally excited to see what comes next for Annabelle. I think that the experience of X's attack and her time working with Carver will affect her relationships with Jasper, X, and Carver. Maybe even Mark. But, while Crying Annabelle will never completely go away, I think going forward the things that would've caused her to cry in the first season will barely bother her as the game continues. The thing that worries me is that Carved doesn't seem long for this world spending more time with her.
Everyone seems to be in such a rush with the Annabelle character story. She's young in human terms and has only recently been turned immortal. Why not relax and take the story slow.
@@kalebdaark100 it's not that they're rushing the character. A lot of people don't enjoy the portrayal of annabelle (me included). We are kinda hoping she'll move past the crying/whining
13 minutes before Annabelle started crying again. That might be a record! Shouldn’t she wear a mask or something, her face always covered in blood from her constant crying?
Great episode, Tallisin’s performance was fantastic as usual. I was hoping to get through an Annabelle episode without Erika putting on the water works for once but my hopes were foiled! How can you be a leader of a anarch revolution and gain respect from violent kindred when you don't want to hurt anyone. No Anarch would follow a pacifist. But good performances all around.
Not only she broke the masquerade, her character feels like it's not a Vampire to begin with. A neonate thirsts for blood, it's an exhilarated period of their "life" and the beast whispers strongly. She feels just like a human that pretends was turned to a vampire and try to imbue some morality in all of them for the sake of it, at times its kinda pathetic.
I'm assuming season 5 has not yet been done as I can't find evidence of its existence. Can't wait to see what happens with the war between the Anarchs and the Tower.
Some people seem to think that there is either something wrong with Annabelle’s character or the way that Erika is role-playing her. So much, “That,s not what I would do” or “Erika needs to learn blank...” I believe that we have the privilege to watch the evolution of a fascinating character brought to life (so to speak) with enthusiasm and glee. Be patient. Erika is supported by a great storyteller & experienced players that always have her back. In the meantime, the naysayers should drink a cup of chill and say, “Thank you!”
I only have two problems with Annabelle. 1. I don't find her entertaining as a character. In fact, she's mostly the exact opposite when on-screen. The constant crocodile tears for example. It doesn't really matter if it "makes sense" that she is the way she is. I watch things to be entertained, not pull my hair out. This doesn't mean that she has to be cool, funny or even sympathetic all the time, but at least sometimes? Every other character manages this kind of balance. 2. She has clear plot armor. There are so many times her mistakes should have invited consequences. Conveniently sidestepping that is actively disrupting immersion. The stakes feel very low when she almost never experiences any major setbacks. Note that this is not just about being in physical danger, it's also about how the other characters react to her. Too many characters just pat her on her back when they have no real reason to. This makes her character feel artificially inserted, like everyone knows that "she's the protagonist" and to make way. While I am glad the season finale finally pushed her a little bit, it remains to be seen if this will foster some character development. Honestly I'm very skeptical, since it hasn't happened whatsoever so far. Not sure how long the series will continue, but I'm concerned that any sort of change will be too quick, which will make it seem 100% unbelievable. Imagine if she returns to the group in season 5 with an entirely new personality. While nearly any change will be an improvement at this point, the contrast would make her seem even less real. I like flawed characters, as long as they're either entertaining or authentic. Annabelle is neither in my opinion.
Fascinating for you, most of the people don't find her fascinating at all if not the opposite and they have their right to express their opinion as you just did. Nonetheless it's not a random case that most people dislike her, it's not that she attracts psychos that have no argument or reason behind their words, the two categories you just mentioned are a bunch amongst many who instead express in way more detailed manner the reason of their dislike. Also, it's season 4 , not 1 or 2 anymore for the wait and see approach.
Im hopping for two big things from Annabelle 1. Nines death...in the heros journey which i think Annabelle is on the mentor usually dies to spur growth. 2nd and tied to it i want her big first battle with her thin blood army to be a rout and her loss. Nines said it him self they need to face adversity and loss
Does Annabelle ever do anything other than cry at the drop of a hat? The thing didn't even start and she was already crying again. Her whole shtick is getting so old. Edit: watched it, I hope this finally means she'll start role-playing a vampire and not some self-insert Mary Sue anymore. Although I get the feeling this could make her even more insufferable if she doesn't get the right things out of it.
So, when will the next episode of L.A. by Night come out? I'm cought up with Critical Role, Hyper RPG is not doing Kids on Bikes anymore and there on a cliff hanger, and now this one is not finished. I NEED MY GOOD RPGS TO GET ME THROUGH MY WORK DAYS! lol.
You know, just before Jason confirmed the bottle smelled of human blood, I honestly thought Carver was tricking Annabelle into drinking something bad - isn't the Sabbat vaulderie made up of the mixed blood of several vampires? Carver being one of them (obviously one of the saner ones) who was still hanging around recruiting was a genuine worry for me for a moment there. After all, in their own - very messed up - way, the Sabbat have always been about freedom.
Freedom? They have ridiculous power structures as well, I mean give me a break: “Bishops”; Just like the “anarchs” have “Barons”, Both sects are completely full of shit make-believe anarchists. The only freedom exists in Autarkis.
Carver isn't Sabbat, though, he's an Anarch who takes the "No rules, but the Masquerade" very seriously, with his disregard for rules and power structures pushing him to be a borderline Autarkis (Kindred that don't care about any of the sects and just do their own thing).

But you know, I think it will come to that.
the only good take in this comment section
Thank you for bringing this show to us! We eagerly await the next season, but we hope you and everyone who helps make this show possible stay home, stay healthy, and stay safe during this challenging time!
Man, I wish Carver had more screen time in this series! Totally understandable that CR takes up so much of his time... I'm just whining. :p
Thanks for the great episode!
He was a caricature on purpose. He said it himself, his superpower is for everyone to see him as the villain.
Jason Carl is a master. He wasn't even looking when Annabelle drank the blood and he still figured out what she just did even though she was done when he looked up.
No, he is a Storyteller! :P
She was pretty dramatic and overt about it, he obviously looked up in time to recognize the gesture, there's nothing impressive about it. You say it like he's psychic or something...
it was a good moment - they played off each other well to make sure the action was communicated
A great conversation between a childe idealist and neonate iconoclast.
My favorite characters were almost always Brujah Individualists. Finding the balance, guiding the Iconoclasts and the Cam, or the Idealists and Anarchs, towards working together. Depending on the campaign.
The L.A by night drinking game:
Take a shot everytime Annabelle cries and gives her shonen anime protagonist speech.
And say goodbye to your liver!
Are you trying to hospitalize us? lol
LOL
@@john-paulvassart3280 I mean, she was a student protest group leader. she's supposed to be annoying lol
Those Kindred who reached Golconda and are able to eat and even walk under the sun again?
...and at Season 4 Epilogue 5, THIS is where Annabelle starts to become a Vampire. Epic. I Love it! :-)
2:48 I love how wholesome and optimistic and naive Jason Carl is. He’s a great guy.
I discovered LA By Night a month ago . Since then I've had glorious weeks of being completly obssessed with this series. I devoured everything from season one to this episode.
Now I have to wait for the next season and I really don't know how am I going to handle this.
How is this whole episode just a bunch of inspirational quotes by Carver? I love it. And I have so many to write down from these 30 minutes
So, who else here would love to see a "Gary by Night" series?
voiced by jason carl, of course
And with Xander as Modius!@@tims3000
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting the episode number early in the title instead of leading with the thematic episode name
@@rootstone9883 i think he really started nailing his character's voice around episode 26
one of my favorite tal roles also erika is in it as well

catch him as No Mercy Percy on The Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime
"Your secret is safe with my indifference."
He also plays the little kid in Mister Mom. The "MY WOOBY!" kid.
I fucking love Carver.
I've loved him the second he was introduced, and I keep loving him more the more he's given "screen time" :D
Love LA by Night ❤️
Not a lot to talk about this episode, most of it was what we already knew.
22:06 That is some deep stuff.
I didn't get why Annabelle ran away, but with this as context, I get it.
Songs to listen to after this episode, Burn it to the Ground - Nickelback and Last Resort - Papa Roach, very lame but appropriate.
This scene is fantastic. I love seeing an older Brujah with a fledgling. I hope to see a new Annabelle who has left baby b behind.
Me too.
I always appreciate Carver.
Indeed. He has quickly become one of my favorite characters, if not a favorite.
I love this show so much and I can't wait for the next season
"I can defend myself"
Can not even knock out an attacker after she disarmed him...
She got high moral standards and that is bound to break,
yep, especially in the world of vampires where every kindred lies, steal and kill to survive.
I'm fond of saying, 'If you always try to live up to someone else's expectations, you'll never live up to your own'.
It's like Tal in his natural habitat. I wish I could see him more on these type of games, more dark.
I look forward to sinking my fangs into season 5 sweet and soon...
Oh man he would be the PERFECT Smiling Jack.
I've been missing LAxN for a while now. Been thinking about the things Carver says to Annabelle in this epilogue. I have been very convinced that Carver is either Sabbat or Sabbat adjacent in some way.
I mean a loyalist Sabbat IS basically an anarch with a religion
Carver makes me miss smiling Jack
Also side note Jason Carl is best game master
It's not been that long but I miss this show so much. Cast, crew and DM come back as soon as it's safe!
Alternate tittle: 🎶 carver's quotes collection. 🎶
God I'm so excited to see where this story goes next. In the meantime, time to rewatch all of the seasons all over again! Great work as always, guys
Taliesin was made to play in the Vampire game, I love his portrayal of Carver and I hope I will see him more in the next season :> Overall, that was an awesome story :)
Taliesin is amazing as always!!
This has been a great season. Thank you to all involved.
Carver is the best character Taliesin Jaffe has played in an RPG I find.
I see your Carver, and I raise you the Owlbear Man
I personally have a soft spot for Mollymauk Tealeaf
@@MiniKunoichi I think that's his worst character tbh. Not that it was awful, but he didn't seem to get the character 'down' before he was killed off.
@@domoarigato3000 neither did half of the other cast.
@@artemiswallace8716 This makes no sense to me, the other's characters didn't die.
I'm wondering if Annabelle is going to pay for breaching the masquerade (using soaring leap from car to car on a highway).
No. She is constantly insulting her superiors and breaking the Masquerade. She is untouchable and extremely annoying. Worst character on the show and will no doubt find a reason to cry in every episode she's in.
Probably not. Spoiled af neonate
Nah, annabelle is the bomb!
As the old Camarilla elder saying goes, the best way to defeat fledglings and neonates is wait for them to screw up and die. ;)
I want more :(
But I must say, I am really impressed.
Annabelle: "What am I missing?"
Factually: a spine. Learn to focus the Beast or become it's slave. You can't cry your way through life.
Annabelle: "I'm not a pacifist"
Factually: Yes. Yes you are. With a lot of opinions, but no will to back them up. Either learn from Carver or walk into the sun.
She is learning, slowly but surely, I can't wait to see more
I'm personally excited to see what comes next for Annabelle.
@@kalebdaark100 Spoken like a true kindred. Confirmed blank body spotted.
@@kalebdaark100 it's not that they're rushing the character. A lot of people don't enjoy the portrayal of annabelle (me included). We are kinda hoping she'll move past the crying/whining

Finally, it is on YT.
15:20 - 16:00 goddamn Carver straight up weaponizing the harsh truths

Taliesin Jaffe amazing work. Love is performance as always. Well done.

What Carver says is VERY applicable today!!
Just when I was going to take a nap... smh
Well let's tell vampire story....
"If you find you are falling into madness -- Dive." -Malkavian Proverb.
*Swoon* Tal playing vampire!!!!
Brujahs are just the best. Look who they have. Nines, Carver and Annabelle. :-)
Missed an ex bad ass cop.....kasey
Not only she broke the masquerade, her character feels like it's not a Vampire to begin with. A neonate thirsts for blood, it's an exhilarated period of their "life" and the beast whispers strongly. She feels just like a human that pretends was turned to a vampire and try to imbue some morality in all of them for the sake of it, at times its kinda pathetic.
I need more Carver and Nines in Season 5, pretty please
can't wait for season 5
It's been a bit, I wonder if this whole covid thing is why there hasn't been a new episode yet.
my sad tu .-.
carver is my favourite sabbat. he'd fit right in up north with the sword
I'm assuming season 5 has not yet been done as I can't find evidence of its existence. Can't wait to see what happens with the war between the Anarchs and the Tower.
It's coming in September, in case you don't know already :)
Good stuff, great epilogue.
Anyone know when season 5 is coming out?
So, when will the next episode of L.A. by Night come out? I'm cought up with Critical Role, Hyper RPG is not doing Kids on Bikes anymore and there on a cliff hanger, and now this one is not finished. I NEED MY GOOD RPGS TO GET ME THROUGH MY WORK DAYS! lol.
We need this more and more. Help.
Carver is my favorite. He can be the villain to help the cause. I love that greasy bastard.
Is there going to be a season 5 for this? Love then story and would love to see more.
when will the next season premiere?
Welp, I've run out of episodes.
why is everyone calling carver sabbat? did i miss something?
