I just hope he can break his own record in next olympics. Renaud, Bubka and Duplantis are the GOATs of pole vaulting. No doubt about it. The relationship between Renaud and Duplantis was utter respectful and heartwarming, kind of like dad handing down the bearings to his son. This is what makes olympics so special and memorable.
I always wonder what Bubka could have done if the soviet system didn't pay him for every mm higher he went. I watched some of his replays, and much like Mondo's first attempt at the WR here, Bubka was consistently well over the bar, only to hit it on the way down.

Only two men in the history of the men's pole vault had ever set the world record at the Olympics. The last men was Władysław Kozakiewicz of Poland at the Moscow games in 1980. I still remember it.
