A slight historical sapphic romance book is Pride and Prejudice and Pittsburgh by Rachael Lippincott. It’s set in the early 1800s when a modern-day teen gets sent back in time and she falls in love with a girl she met there who is trying to escape her future with a man she doesn’t love. Amazing recommendation. Good for adults and YA alike. 5 stars.
For the historical sapphic rec: Pride and Prejudice and Pittsburgh is a cute read. It has time travel and most of it is set about 200 years in the past.
Tipping the Velvet is a historical sapphic book. I read it years ago so can’t remember much about it though. I bought Astrid Parker last week with my birthday money as I enjoyed Delilah Green so much! I love these book rec videos ❤
I have some recs that I haven’t read yet but I heard these were good Historical romances- Don't Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma R. Alban: Sapphic and Victorian Era Gwen & Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher: Medieval, has both wlw and mlm main couple Songs of Irie by Asha Ashanti Bromfield: Sapphic, 1970s Music from Another World by Robin Talley: Sapphic, 1970s All Out (edited) by Saundra Mitchell: Anthology with multiple different stories but I know one is about two girls falling in love in the 90s Gay Twilight- Calla Falling by Tallie Rose: Sapphic, vampire hunter falls for vampire The Lost Girls by Sonia Hartl: John Tucker Must Die but sapphic and with vampires The Coldest Touch by Isabel Sterling: Sapphic, Vampire falls for girl who can see when people die Just My Type by Lucy Bexley: Short (158 pages), Sapphic, Vampire falls for someone who is researching a blood disease Mysteries- Bianca Torre Is Afraid of Everything by Justine Pucella Winans: Murder mystery, Non-binary Lesbian MC We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammonds: Family secrets, Pan MC with sapphic LI Echo After Echo by Amy Rose Capetta- Sapphic murder mystery, takes place in the theater Better Left Buried by Mary E. Roach- Not yet out but sapphic murder mystery How to Find a Missing Girl by Victoria Wlosok- MCs sister and ex-gf goes missing and she tries to figure out who did it
If anyone's reading this I want to add They Never Learn by Layne Fargo, One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke and The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould to the list of sapphic recommendations 😊
Re: enby characters - Chef's Kiss by TJ Alexander for romance. If you're into SFF, Genesis of Misery by Neon Yang and Once and Future by Cory McCarthy and AR Capetta. For historical stuff, Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor. Set in the early 90s and written by someone who experienced that time, it's a very spicy tour of various iconic queer things of the era, from Michfest to Provincetown to San Francisco, all through the lens of a character who has a unique relationship with gender.
For historical and modest spice, I'd recommend 'The lady's guide to celestial mechanics'. (I'm not really a romance reader, and I enjoyed that one!). 'Fingersmith' is quite a fun Dickensian historical, with a bit of a thriller element. It isn't like Twilight AT ALL, but if you want a good (black) lesbian vampire story, definitely check out 'The Gilda Stories'. Sci fi and fantasy are good for avoiding angst around sexuality or closeting (because its a different world); some Sapphic examples are 'In the vanishers' palace', 'This is how you lose the time war', or 'Ammonite'. Fantasy-mystery option: 'A master of djinn'
Some sapphic recommendations that weren’t mentioned in this video :) Sapphic Mystery Rec: The Truth About Keeping Secrets by Savannah Brown Main character is investigating her father’s death because she believes it wasn’t an accident. Another Sapphic Mystery Rec: Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth Don’t know if you can really call this a sapphic mystery but it is a mystery and there is a main character who is a lesbian, and the book does explore a sapphic relationship, but it’s not a big part of the book at all. Still it’s a pretty good read so I recommend! Historical sapphic Rec: Gwen and Art are Not in Love by Lex Croucher I think this might be a fantasy as well from what I remember, but regardless, it’s medieval. It’s a super fun read, kept me up all night when I read it. Another Historical Sapphic Rec: Even Though I Knew the End by C. L. Polk This one is a novella and it’s actually a triple rec because it’s historical (takes place in 1940s Chicago), fantasy (supernatural to be specific), and also kind of a mystery (main character is a magical detective trying to solve a case). Nonfiction Sapphic Rec: In the Dreamhouse by Carmen Maria Machado It’s a memoir about the author’s experience in an abusive relationship that happened to be sapphic. It’s a really great book and a super quick read even if you’re not a big fan of reading nonfiction, trust me !! Sapphic story where romance isn’t the whole plot: Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen It’s a really cute sapphic YA coming of age story. The romance is integral, but definitely not overbearing, like there is so much more to the plot. I would fs categorize this book as a coming of age more than a romance. Sapphic story where the character is figuring out their sexuality in their 20s: When You Least Expect It by Haley Cass Ok technically I’m cheating but hear me out. They’re in their 30s not 20s… Anyway, it’s a pretty cute holiday(ish) romance about a divorce lawyer and one of her clients who is/ was married to a shitty guy that mc used to live it. We don’t actually get the perspective of the character figuring out her sexuality in this book however, Haley Cass has released another book (Better Than Expected) which is the same story but from the other perspective. I haven’t read it buttt yk, just putting it out there. Sapphic Fantasy Rec: The Phoenix Keeper by S.A. MacLean About a zoo that has magical creatures and the main character is a zookeeper trying to keep phoenixes from going extinct because they are endangered. (Spoiler: it’s enemies to lovers.) Another Sapphic Fantasy Rec: Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust It’s a feminist fairytale about a cursed princess that features a sapphic relationship. I don’t have a a book rec for “twilight but gay and less creepy” however check out First Kill on Netflix if that’s the vibe you’re looking for. Honorable mentions: * Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins (if you want a sapphic romance between an American girl and a Scottish princess) * Imogen Obviously by Becky Albertalli (if you want a cute sapphic college romance and a story about discovering your sexuality) * She Gets The Girl by Alyson Derrick and Rachael Lippincott (if you want a sapphic college romance that has strangers to enemies (kind of) to friends to lovers) * She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen (if you want a cheesy sapphic romance with enemies to lovers + fake dating) * Cool for the Summer Dahlia Adler (if you want a fun summer read with bi rep and a sapphic relationship) * She’s Too Pretty To Burn by Wendy Heard (if you want The Picture of Dorian Gray, but modern and sapphic) I hope this helped :)
There are so many great historical sapphic books (I'm an enormous enthusiast of the genre). Any gay must pick up Sarah Waters, that requires no explanation. I'm partial to Tipping the Velvet but Fingersmith is a masterpiece. I love her angstier stuff too but it's not for everyone, for example, Affinity. Other than Sarah Water, I recommend Patience and Sarah by Isabelle Miller, Backwards to Oregon by Jae, and The Perks of Loving a Wallflower by Erica Ridley if you're more into romances. Regarding the Twilight prompt, I weirdly have a rec too. There's an older series by Malinda Lo that isn't about vamps but is supernatural and has all the early 2010s YA conventions. It also has a bi heroine and a m/f/f love triangle. The first book is Adaptation. Look it up, it's really fun!
Georgia!! I don't really read the same books as you but this is definitely my comfort channel, I soo look forward to every upload💞 thanks for all ur hard work. I think I'll have to take a few of your recommendations and try something new. Lots of love from Brighton xx
OMG GEORGIA!!! I've been following you on your main channel for like five years now and i KNEW YOU READ A LOT BUT I JUST FOUND THIS CHANNEL AAHH???? anyway i haven't even watched the video yet I was just looking for some sapphic book recs and i got so excited when your video came up agshdkske ❤❤❤❤
Wolfsong is a recommended twilight but gay. There are also a bunch of gay vampire books out there. I haven’t actually read any myself, so I can’t recommend any unfortunately.
i used to always HATE reading because you were forced to in school and stuff but THEN i discovered fanfiction and suddenly LOVED reading. Its had a consequence though, fanfic has rotted my mind so much that i cant read physical paper books. I CAN ONLY read from a screen and even more specifically the AO3 format, like if its not that format my brain wont get into it, like i actually cant understand the words im reading or string them together, so if i find a book i wanna read i have to get it online and then copy and paste the entire thing into a word doc and put it landscape and the AO3 font to be able to focus on it at all or physically be able to read it. I fucking love sapphic books so much but its a whole process for me :(
For the mystery one I would highly recommend The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. It's always described as lesbian necromancers who explore a haunted castle which is correct but it's leading more towards mystery. Just a warning that it can be really confusing which is honestly what makes them such a fun read!
My favourite historical sapphic book of all time is Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, but it's for readers with a lot of patience because I've seem people who call it boring.
If you are looking to read more about trans or non-binary characters where the relationship is also Sapphic (or...damn, we need a word for WLNB, don't we?), here are some suggestions. Basically all SFF, I'm afraid, because that's my niche...but maybe some will appeal to you even if its not usually yours: - 'The salt grows heavy'. Novella about a carnivorous mermaid and her NB plague doctor. Their relationship is both creepy and endearing. - 'The red threads of fortune' Supposedly novella 2 in the series, but you don't REALLY need to read the first one. This series didn't fully click with me, but I loved the NB character - who is a naga-rider! - 'Sorrowland' This is about an albino black woman who runs away from a cult, and she and her kids end up getting taken in by a couple of native american women. She gets into a relationship with the younger, who is a trans woman. Also there's a bunch of fungal body horror stuff. - 'Light from uncommon stars' There's a cis lesbian relationship between a violinist who sold her soul to the devil and an alien who runs a donut shop, but also the former has a young trans protoge. - 'Phoenix extravagant' A NB artist makes friends with a mechanical dragon and falls in love with a swordswoman. - 'The worm and his kings' Sapphic horror with a trans woman protagonist. - 'Into the gray' Terrific short story about a trans woman thief and her man-eating mermaid girlfriend. -
Any recommendations for books like Her Royal Highness? I just finished it and I loved the roommate trope and I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for any other books like that? Also, if anyone knows any books that are similar to Cleat Cute, I would love to hear your recommendations as well! Thanks!
I also need another book similar to Her Royal Highness omg !! Also I’ve never read Cleat Cute but a couple of books I have read that I would guess might be similar are Homefield Advantage by Dahlia Adler and She Drives me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen
Cool For the Summer by Dahlia Adler or Imogen Obviously by Becky Albertalli !! If you’re looking for something where the main character is actually confused and struggling a then definitely Imogen Obviously. If you want something where the mc is in denial (despite having had a fling with a girl for an entire summer) you might like Cool For The Summer. Oh, also if you’re looking for something with older characters like in their 30s, you might like When You Least Expect it and it’s companion book Better Than Expected, both by Haley Cass.
twilight gay and less creepy… i’ve been reading Carmilla. well, scratch that - i read Carmilla, hated the gothic writing style bc it made my brain hurt and made me bored. butttttt “Carmilla and Laura” by S D Simper is 10/10. the OG is good in the manner that you can appreciate and really dive into the “remake” Simper created so well. reading the original alsoooo means that you can see where the main detours or elaborations were made in comparison. quite nice, quick reads :) anywho, that’s legitimately the closest i could imagine for twilight lol, sorry if not!

Coming into the comments to follow "Twilight but" gay because that sounds like it just might be fun

Historic Lesbian books - Emma Donogue Learned by Heart is a coming of age Anne Lister story.
I just read Cinderella is dead. A queer book about 2 girls trying to avenge Cinderella’s death and the girls end up dating.
Anybody else thinks that she looks like a young version of rose from rose and rosie? The blondie one😲

for sapphic historical fiction i can recommend That Green Eyed Girl, be warned though it broke me :(
trans book rec : her majestys royal coven, theres also sapphic rep in this
