Thank you for enduring this for your fellow gay people, so we don't have to. Especially Colleen Hoover. You deserve a medal for that one.
omg ive been watching your true crime channel for yearrrs and had no idea abt this channel, will be binging all your vids 😭🩵
I can't explain why I can read mountains of BL with zero issue and plenty of enjoyment but can't sit through one book of straight romance.
18:05 first time viewer here- you look beautiful with or without makeup, I’m glad you didn’t waste time refilming that whole section lol! 🌸✨
I really enjoyed listening to this review selection this morning and as a writer I'm always curious to know what sort of lesbian content readers are likely to be interested in most. Hearing your really nicely balanced remarks made me think a great deal about my own writing and I cringed to relate to some of the things I've been guilty of doing myself like ignoring the butches in favour of popularity. I feel committed now to writing a butch , high femme couple romance!!
I loved this and for me it's the honesty on both sides that make this particular video so interesting. It shows how much being able to relate personally affects our view perspective on any book we read and that's also reflected in the way the book lender reacts when her own favourite character comes under fire!
Is there a sapphic book of a two lesbians one rights a chapter using her character then the other read the chapter and uses her own character to interact with her for the next and it just swaps back and fourth
Librarian: “don’t you want to try a romance novel from the regular section” Me: ummmmmm *looks over at the gay book I was reading*
The fact that Sue and Megan are involved in this project is EVERYTHING to me. I already know they are going to do it justice
Memes aside, I think "are the straights OK?" is sometimes a very valid question to ask.
I’m a lesbian who absolutely refuses to read straight romance LMAO
im glad to hear you say all that about icebreaker because ive had it on my TBR stack for months! 😂
Loved this video! So interesting to watch and I love hearing the different perspectives, really shows how we read and take things differently - so interesting! It’s inspired me to do the same with my sister :)
Haven’t read Hoover but I have read Maya Banks and the 2 1/2 books I read (I’m a see things through typa person, i had already bought all three) were absolute torture. Just the most disgusting male characters I had ever read about. Especially Gabe. Took me two years to read them and then give up. How anyone rated those books good is beyond me
can anyone recommend me lesbian books that don't involve cheating or romance with men? im new to reading for fun.
the whole reason i pick out books is because i judge them by their covers-
I wish there would be more videos like this
😊😊😊 this is a fun video thanks 🙏🏾 for sharing. 🎉🎉
straight people scare me- i can only read queer romance bc it makes more sense to me,
😻😻😻
Hi, Georgia!! I wanted to ask if you read "More than a best friend"? It's about two girls who have to get the prince to marry them but fall in love with each other instead... Just wanted to ask your opinion if you read it <3
Looks great. I bet my son would love it
i'm lucky that i know what all the Coleen Hoover books are about because of sum up videos instead of me actually reading them (I'm a lesbian and really not into straight romance but it still interested me) and her books are so terrible and I say that with full knowledge about what and how she writes. November 9th is one of the most shocking books for me because it's just so objectifying and weird
Something else in maroon which i saw another gaylor speak on was the lines "How'd we end up on the floor anyway?" you say "You're roommates cheap ass screw top rose, thats how." Combined with the next line: "I see you everyday now." Which could imply that this person said to Taylor, How'd we end up on the floor anyway? and she replied (talking about herself), saying, Oh, your roommates cheap wine, haha-like implying its her wine and that they are roommates, and the lyric I see you every day could be hinting at that. Side note: this is set in NY, and guess who Taylor had as a literal roommate in NY, who had an actual bedroom in Taylor's apartment? lol AND, the whole like thing in history where people are always like oh haha they were just roommates (and totally not gay) i feel if this is how Taylor meant this to be read, then its totally a nod to that too.
I am also traumatised after reading gay romance.
The straights are definitely not ok
Some sapphic recommendations that weren’t mentioned in this video :) Sapphic Mystery Rec: The Truth About Keeping Secrets by Savannah Brown Main character is investigating her father’s death because she believes it wasn’t an accident. Another Sapphic Mystery Rec: Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth Don’t know if you can really call this a sapphic mystery but it is a mystery and there is a main character who is a lesbian, and the book does explore a sapphic relationship, but it’s not a big part of the book at all. Still it’s a pretty good read so I recommend! Historical sapphic Rec: Gwen and Art are Not in Love by Lex Croucher I think this might be a fantasy as well from what I remember, but regardless, it’s medieval. It’s a super fun read, kept me up all night when I read it. Another Historical Sapphic Rec: Even Though I Knew the End by C. L. Polk This one is a novella and it’s actually a triple rec because it’s historical (takes place in 1940s Chicago), fantasy (supernatural to be specific), and also kind of a mystery (main character is a magical detective trying to solve a case). Nonfiction Sapphic Rec: In the Dreamhouse by Carmen Maria Machado It’s a memoir about the author’s experience in an abusive relationship that happened to be sapphic. It’s a really great book and a super quick read even if you’re not a big fan of reading nonfiction, trust me !! Sapphic story where romance isn’t the whole plot: Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen It’s a really cute sapphic YA coming of age story. The romance is integral, but definitely not overbearing, like there is so much more to the plot. I would fs categorize this book as a coming of age more than a romance. Sapphic story where the character is figuring out their sexuality in their 20s: When You Least Expect It by Haley Cass Ok technically I’m cheating but hear me out. They’re in their 30s not 20s… Anyway, it’s a pretty cute holiday(ish) romance about a divorce lawyer and one of her clients who is/ was married to a shitty guy that mc used to live it. We don’t actually get the perspective of the character figuring out her sexuality in this book however, Haley Cass has released another book (Better Than Expected) which is the same story but from the other perspective. I haven’t read it buttt yk, just putting it out there. Sapphic Fantasy Rec: The Phoenix Keeper by S.A. MacLean About a zoo that has magical creatures and the main character is a zookeeper trying to keep phoenixes from going extinct because they are endangered. (Spoiler: it’s enemies to lovers.) Another Sapphic Fantasy Rec: Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust It’s a feminist fairytale about a cursed princess that features a sapphic relationship. I don’t have a a book rec for “twilight but gay and less creepy” however check out First Kill on Netflix if that’s the vibe you’re looking for. Honorable mentions: * Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins (if you want a sapphic romance between an American girl and a Scottish princess) * Imogen Obviously by Becky Albertalli (if you want a cute sapphic college romance and a story about discovering your sexuality) * She Gets The Girl by Alyson Derrick and Rachael Lippincott (if you want a sapphic college romance that has strangers to enemies (kind of) to friends to lovers) * She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen (if you want a cheesy sapphic romance with enemies to lovers + fake dating) * Cool for the Summer Dahlia Adler (if you want a fun summer read with bi rep and a sapphic relationship) * She’s Too Pretty To Burn by Wendy Heard (if you want The Picture of Dorian Gray, but modern and sapphic) I hope this helped :)
Thanks for saving me from ever reading November 9
I know I’m super late on this one, but I’m on UA-cam binge! But anyway, Book Lovers was terrible in my opinion. So so predictable, didn’t particularly like any of the characters. I don’t even think I finished I, I think I was about 4 pages away from the end and just stopped reading it. Not for me at all!
I recognise alot of these books from what my friends read and so going to watch this to see whats up lmao
the segment on that book by Colleen Hoover, oh my god ToT... I've seen people criticize her books but I didn't realize how awful the details were ( I've always avoided learning any details until I impulsively clicked this video )
5:08 O_O... an easy fix the author could've implemented into the story is that Poppy and Alex both have a hard time differentiating between platonic and romantic love but that would mean the book would be more complicated and layered, layers that these books seem to lack T3T :,D
this was great, it would be nice to see another video of you two or you and other people like maybe a wife book swap??
the rock hard muscle and 8-pack ab trope is for sure just the author adopting some male gaze. and clearly if MMC has no personality outside of his appearance, he’s gotta be made attractive in some other way. it’s lazy writing tbh.
why do these straight people hate eachother
Colleen hoover is making the boyfriends webtoon seem okay and it genuenly scares the shit out of me😭
omg ur cardigan is so cute
31:45 “i’m pretty sure that’s just homophobia” 💀🤣 screaaaming hahaha
Oooh this is such a fun idea! I (straight) will have to try this with my (lesbian) sister, we’re both avid readers and always looking for a way to find new and interesting books.
As a bisexual woman, yes many women do find muscular men attractive, so do I, TO A DEGREE, because it absolutely can become too much, like bodybuilder level of muscle is just weird looking, but like, a fit man with lean defined muscles and just a lil healthy layer of fat? Yes please
The one comfort I can give you, is that Colleen hoover has a reputation, the women reading her books are NOT representative of the female population, they are a minority who have chosen to read them, and therefore are prone to like that sort of (horrific) book
Congrats on your wedding!!
My sister and I either watch the same media or we rant/rave stuff to each other about media the other won't consume. So I love seeing you two read each other's books. My sister doesn't read much anymore, so i can't get her to read my books lol.
hey i didnt like Deliliah as a character either, and im a lesbian lol btw loved this video! so much fun
I'm getting Last Night at the Telegraph Club and its sequel soon. I get what you mean about the crack in Magnolia Parks. There are just media where I don't like the characters, but I just want to see their nonsense drama.
45:00 not a straight woman, but an enby ManLiker muscles are only good in my opinion if there’s also chub. like i love plus-size men who are really strong :]
Maybe this is just me, i do have a probably unfair dislike of the love hypothesis, but as an ace person i rly do not like the ace/demisexual representation in that book. To me it feels like it says olive is 'fixed' when she feels sexual attraction to adam and before that there was smth 'wrong' with her, she absolutely doesn't need a label but i wld love it to be adressed that it is a valid sexual orientation rather than just a 'weird' thing that olive experienced that is now just a 'thing of the past ' sry for the rambling and if you enjoyed the book I'm happy for you ♡
