      My issue with the way he ran it was in saving Daisy in the way that he did. Sometimes players die. It's one thing when you give them a path to RAW ways to save their friend, but you took agency away from the players and nothing you do is now real for the PC's.

    Can I just say btw that this series has really helped me - whether it’s helping to nerf the manticore, make mountains toe (quote from a player) “the best session yet”, or helping improve other quests…
    My party has reached level 4, we’ve had one DMPC death, and they’ve completed all the starter quests, the shrine of savras, and the Mountain toe gold mine quest.
    This is my first time playing DnD, and your playlist has really helped me out

    773 views!? That’s a travesty for such good content. I routinely come back to your videos for tips and tricks as my player’s progress through the campaign. Your content is golden to have someone to talk about the DM side of things and to bounce ideas!
    Currently cooking dinner and listening to this before I enjoy trying to go for a legit Will-o-wisp player kill 😉

      Ah thank you so much!!
      We may be biased but we feel the same way LOL! We could be cheesy and say you could help spread the word by liking the video and sharing our channel with your friends, but we won't do that 😝
      Seriously though, thank you for the encouragement. It is very much appreciated!
      Enjoy your dinner and let us know if your will-o-wisp kill actually is legit... unlike Jake's!! 🤣

    The main thing people don't realize about perception is that RAW, if you roll under your passive perception you use the passive score. So with a DC 10 you might as well just ask if anyone is proficient in perception and use their passive score.

    • @JNJTabletop
      @JNJTabletop  Рік тому

      There’s a lot of grey area when it comes to passive scores (particularly perception). I believe many DMs don’t employ this concept because it doesn’t always make sense to them. Yes, Jeremy Crawford did make a ruling that this is technically how things work but I’m not sure that RAW actually does say to do things this way. It’s a very interesting and extremely valuable point to bring up though. Thank you!

    So I tied this adventure to the party’s dragon hating ranger who started the campaign with amnesia. It turns out Lady Algondar is their mother who had a longevity spell cast on her and her sword that also has a curse where dragons are drawn to them. She’s still alive and the only things in her led lined sarcophagus was the sword and lone sending stone, left to contact Lady Algindar. Being that the party is already familiar with sending stones, the ranger used it to contact their mother and learned about the curse and that the ranger has it too. Now they know they have a way to draw out Cryovain to fight him where they want, when they want. The only thing they have to worry about is the ranger and/or whoever wields the sword will be his whole focus. I’ve pumped up Cryivain to compensate. Should be interesting.

      @JNJTabletop  Рік тому

      Oh wow that all sounds incredible! Please let us know where they decide to fight Cryovain!

    This is my first time as a DM and we have been running this campaign for several weeks now. Your videos and some others have helped inspire ideas for our game. My party just finished the circle of thunder and "should" be saving Falcon's Lodge next. I've kept Xanth as a potential savior in the woods and will introduce him after the counter attack. Then he will tell them about the barrows and the sword that's buried there. Also, Gnomengarde "home and garden" was our favorite quest lol. I went off book a good bit with it though.

    I put a bard in the Stonehill Tavern that knew a story about the fight against the dragon that could shed more light on the history of the barrow... might end up making that bard be Tarbin Tul from the follow-up episodes just to foreshadow that plot. Although after seeing that outtro, now I'm thinking maybe two bards that lost their instruments and came up with a new style of accompaniment.

    this guide is amazing! First session went smooth as butterskull *wink wink* looking forward for the tips on Tower of Storm. It's one of the first missions my group discovered as they were talking with NPCs, and I didn't realize it's meant for higher levels. Looking for way to nerf it in case take it too soon. Although they did great with the manticore at level 1!!

      So happy we could be of help! We aren't sure if we are going to do side quest guides but off the top of my head, I would suggest lowering the number of harpies or perhaps just nerfing their hp depending on the kind of tone you want to set for your game!

      @@JNJTabletop Yeah. The small town on the windswept frontier gives a nice vibe like that. Ex-sheriff and stetson wearing NPC's sell the point as well 😁 I'll have to figure out some things about the timeline and quest giving as the PC's might get chased out of town twice. Once by outlaws (Stone Cold Reavers secretly employed by ms Thornton to harass caravans not under Zhentarim protection) and then by the new Zhentarim sheriff taking care of the outlaw problem. In reality things might take a totally different course depending on the PC's.
