I'm so flumoxed by the high range ability of Mr Nicholson. And his descriptions of achieving the high range.. absolutely a radical idea to people like me who have struggled with range all of my life. Just amazing.
Oh wow! Didn't anyone ever tell you you can't do that on a flug? Seriously, thank you for your posts. Your words always give me good things to think on and challenge myself with. You have been awe inspiring me for many years.
Son of a gun! This really works. I was bottoming out, hitting the rim at a double F'ish. The snarl got my big fat lips outta the cup enough to get up to the trippa C. Thanks for the tip Lynn.
Well, so much for "no pressure". I loved watching the right-hand pinky-finger trying to bend the hook to the first valve. P.S. - as a former Brandenburg guy on trumpet and current bass trombonist, it's fun to see the bad old days.
Jesus, man! you still got it! when i played brass, i would pull my chops out to the side more than to the top i think, but i was playing tuba and sousaphone one or two octaves above what was written.
47 seconds in... I had a Getzen Eterna Flugelhorn back in the 1980's. Wonderful tone. Played it at my senior night in high school. Chuck Mangione's "Land of Make Believe". Back when rocks were young.... There's a picture of me in our school album playing it. The caption says I am playing a trombone...
Thank you, Lynn. I had a couple lessons with good old Doc Reinhart, in "75" or "76." He told me you guys had a hot dog lunch once, on the streets of Phili. Was he messing with me, or was it true? 😁
@@cartitheplotagon Yes.... Arch your tongue less. Don't use it as a coarse compression device. Use your abs/intercostals to produce the pitch. In addition, a larger hole in your mouthpiece ALWAYS produces a bigger, more balanced sound, all other factors equal....
@@lynn95441Hey what do you recommend bc I used hit f# above the staff with my screamer, but now I struggle I can't even hit D I got D on my 5B and 7c mouthpiece. But I've never took a break off of high notes with and without the screamer. You think I need a break. Or it's something else.
Lynn Great stuff man! I'm a comeback player after 50 years & love your clear cut videos. I'm catching on to the compression of the abs aspect. Shirt up video was a great visual on that! (Thank you). That has helped my range, but more so, makes me hit notes above "C" in the staff easier with less effort. Looking at you play, as well as listening, I think I see your mouthpiece about 2/3 on the upper lip, & 1/3 lower. Is that what I'm seeing Lynn? BTW... I have been using a Parduba 5.5HJ. (And not because I think I'll play like Harry James if I use that mouthpiece. That would be like buying the golf clubs Tiger Woods has & expecting to play like him)! I just love the compression & feel from that mouthpiece, & the trick is not to over blow it. I have thin lips, & don't bottom out on the double cup. Right now, I can play an "A" above the staff on a good day; "G" is solid though. But just curious about your mouthpiece placement. THANKS LYNN & be well!
Hey Lynn! I’ve admired you and your playing for a long time and have wanted to try one of the famous xpiece trumpet mouthpieces. Are these pieces still in production and Is there a certain link for purchasing one. Thanks!

Huh! That just makes sense. Why do people make this stuff so complicated? Simply snarl!

Ha! With a tiny v-cup, you can't press too hard, or lip protrusion will end your note....
One of the greatest of all time for sure
That's a great trip Lynn and great playing as always. Going that far into the upper register on a flugel is just crazy! Well done Sir, thank you!
Awesome!!!

@@lynn95441Also do you got any tips for a open a warm sound for notes on and above the staff? Because my band director says my sound is too bright.

Those notes on a flugel? That's just wrong.
