- On Wednesday August 16th I finally got the chance to see the Amtrak detours going into and out of Grand Central Terminal. While at Spuyten Duyvil I was able to see the Amtrak bridge open and close to let a New York City Circle Line Cruise boat pass by as with seeing many other trains.
Very interesting and very beautiful video!! 👏👏👏 Thank you!
Thank you for watching intercity1971, greetings trackside at Spuyten Duyvil
I love this video 100% oh my goodness you've made this railroader extremely happy watching this açtion on the Harlem River into The Hudson Lines, with Amtrak & Metro North! The intro was GREAT with New Jersey Transit! Awesome job I thank you so much! 👍👍😀
Thank you for watching harold alexis I am humbled by your kind words I am glad you enjoyed this video. To me yeah the trains are one thing but the history, the scenery all make train watching even that much better.
I could be wrong on this, but I think the lead locomotives on the trains at 6:34 and 15:08 are both P42s rather than P32ACDMs. The numbering is of P42s, makes me wonder why they were using them in the first place. In the case of the Grand Central diversion, sure, if they need to go into GCT then just stick a P32 on the back and have it push the train with the P42 from upstate acting as a cab car. But, the one going over the swing bridge is throwing me off. Equipment move from the South stuck onto another train, maybe?
Both are P42s the train at 6:34 that was a regular train out of NYPenn I think it was Lake Shore Limited I could be wrong on but it was like one of 3 trains in and out of Penn due to the construction yes Amtrak could have been just moving it. The train at 15:08 was a detour into GCT the trailing loco was a P32 Dual Mode.
I live in a building right next to the station. When the derailment happened in 2013 I heard the train screech off the tracks.
Thank you for watching Arthur nice to live close to the station especially for a railfan, history buff, New Yorker, also the views there I bet are decent for that part of the city. On the other hand, I bet that was some sight / a bit shocking to see the derailment. Also, I remember when that freight train derailed near there also.
@@LibertyRailfan views are amazing especially when the sun sets. From my window I could barely see the bottom of one of the cars. Scary sight
@@arthurcooperman3106 yeah I could only imagine.. Talking about a 30 mph curve and that train was 82mph amazing it wasn't worse.
1:59 Last Survivor CDOT owned Shoreliner 4 Cab Car 6221 also my favorite.
Thank you for watching Kirk Zevola, ahh cool about 6221.
5 Stars, Trains, Boats & Bridge Action ! Yeah, Adam, Great Location & Video !
Thank you for watching Mark and your great comment. This area here is right where two separate wrecks in recent history happened one a freight train derailment and the other was the derailment in 2013 that almost landed a few Metro-North cars right into the Hudson also part of the reason for our Nation's PTC push. bit.ly/2GITgVS If you make it to NYC area and want to railfan this is one decent spot for passenger action all day long.
I have friends from New York State, and I will pass this video & info to them
Spuyten Duyvil next! Next stop Spuyten Duyvil!
Thank you for watching ProudPirate, yup that is what those station announcements say. It is a neat spot to view the trains at, right on the water, but one could still see the Amtrak trains crossing the Spuyten Duyvil bridge, overall a decent spot.
I used both the empire service and metro north frequently while I lived upstate near Poughkeepsie and I can honestly say this is the first time I've ever seen that bridge move, your video is amazing
Thank you very much Eric, cool yeah the Hudson Line / Empire Corridor are some of most scenic lines in the NYC Metro / Northeast. Do you still ride live in the area take other lines now or out of NY altogether? As for the Spuyten Duyvil bridge just come to the Spuyten Duyvil station during the summer spend a few hours they always have to open that bridge especially when the Circle Line tour boats come through or any other large vessel..
Lol what a name for a station! Nice video.
Thank you AcelaRailfan2150 for watching, greetings trackside along Metro North's Hudson Line in NY. I know its a dutch name Spuyten Duyvil from some of the first settlers of New York..
Oh I see :)
Focus went downhill around 10:50 mark (Or I'm having a stroke)! Interesting location. Especially liked watching Circle Liner and swing bridge operation!
Thank you commenting Richard yeah it was cool seeing the Circle Liner and Bridge in operation. What do you mean about 10:50 mark? I know in some shots when I zoom my camera it takes a few seconds to focus, would really help if the MTA allowed one to use a tripod, but the rules are rules no tripods on platforms.
Seemed to be out of focus from that point to end of video. Still enjoyed it!
Thank you it might have been UA-cam / connection issue I am watching the video all the way through right now focusing seems fine towards the end of the video. Just the normal focus adjusting when I was zooming in or out which was slightly delayed for each scene due to strong sunlight glare off the water at this location.
Great film. Brings back some fond memories. Are the yellow square pods between the tracks part of the automatic train control system?
Thank you very much Cats01 glad to bring back the memories. Your guess is good as mine I think you are right on the money has to be for some sort of communication system probably for the PTC..
Dual-mode locomotives used on both commuter trains and Amtrak trains into GCT?? Excuse my ignorance as I'm not a hard-core railfan but more of a public policy/infrastructure person. Obviously, the EMU sets use the third rail but I'm not referencing them.
Thank you John, yes the diesels that all go into and out Grand Central Terminal and the Diesel types of NY Penn Station operate off of the same 3rd rail as the EMU sets. They are 100% Dual Modes right now Metro-North, Amtrak, LIRR, and New Jersey Transit all have some type of Dual Modes they switch over to electric mode when going into GCT or Penn..
Yup! Definitely need to hit GCT or Penn station & get on up to croton Harmon, then Cold spring, where I'll stop in at the bar/restaurant (former station) have a few cold ones and head on back to NYC, unless of course I'm of a mind to stay at the Hudson House...great place to be in late fall, early winter! I grew up by Univ. Hts RR Station-was a huge NYC fan! Thanks for a great video.
Thank you for watching and the great comment Richard Mac Dowell.. Great that sounds like a really great trip, the whole town of Cold Spring is really nice a great place too for train watching on both sides of the Hudson..
It is true
What might that be ?
I saw 3 Hudson’s and 1 upper Harlem at Yankees’E 153 street
Thank you for watching Edzeb101, cool..
Cool
Thank you for watching MetroNorth RR fan greetings from your railroad.. :-)
Sensational video! Adam this quality and variety makes your channel odd! congratulations!
Thank you very much Luis Fernando da Silva yes that is why I choose the name Liberty I am free to go wherever / whenever I don't like just filming the same line at the same locations all the time, break it up do something different when I can..
that is coolLiberty Railfan Productions
Thank you for watching Ramsey love, perhaps next summer they will do this again but we shall see.. It was cool seeing these Amtrak detours come and go into and out of GCT
Wow
Thank you for watching John Burke greetings from Spuyten Duyvil
Want to watch trains, not boats
Okay great you don't have to watch anymore videos from this channel the boats go with this area..
Lol
