I lived in Irvington back in 1975 - 1979. Back then, it was still majority white, but these were its last years. Wikipedia says that by 1980, Irvington was 40% black, by 1990, 70% black. When I lived in Irvington, there already were some places where it was better not to be after dark. The town still had two movie theaters, Castle on Clinton Ave. and Essex on Springfield Ave. Essex got torn down while I still lived in Irvington. Castle Theater, after changing a number of owners, went of of business in 2000. To this day Irvington has no movie theater. All the stores, except one, that were in Irvington in my day, have gone out of business. I dislike being in Irvington now because it is not safe. Even Newark is safer than Irvington!

Fun fact about IRV is that what we know of the modern day "knock-out" game, originated here. Was like 89' @ Myrtle Junior High when dudes decided to start walking up to random people trying to take their jaws off. I lived here for about 3 years & it was straight wild. The Marshalls were the spot back then & seen some crazy stuff go down there as well.
Back in the late 90s I used to get my hair braided on Stuyvesant Avenue. The salon consisted of 2 African braiders and a barber. When dudes would come in to get a haircut, I’d be prepared in the event they were coming to rob the place. The area was sooo bad that right before I knew they were on the verge of finishing my hair I’d call my boyfriend who lived in hillside - in broad daylight to make sure I got to my car safely whether it was parked in front of the shop or the next block over to follow me out of the area. LoveXinfinity There were literally 5 or less decent blocks to live in Irvington. All were bordering another decent town like Maplewood or Hillside (at that time). I lived in a 1 family home, 2 car private driveway, big backyard and had a pretty decent childhood. However, I also had 2 loving parents that instilled qaulities and sense so I can admit I'm the exception. So sad to see the war torn territory it has become
Daddy Bear eventually I started going to a new salon on the border of Maplewood a stones throw away from N.J. transit and it’s true as you approach the border of Maplewood it’s so much nicer and tame.... it’s like the vibe and energy changes in the blink of an eye. I used to date another dude (yes, in my younger days that was my thing, but shit has changed)who lived in Hillside and 2 streets over from him was the Newark border. He lived on a very nice street with very large old beautiful homes in a middle class working neighborhood. Then back in 2007/2008 they made his street part of the Newark address. The neighborhood is still very nice, but the fact remains it’s Newark. People side eye me when I say parts of Newark are a beautiful city.

So many people hating on Irvington but I loved reminded me of my hometown Oakland before gentrification when it was a black city. I seen many black home owners in Irvington and black employees all over the city.
I grew up on the border of union and Irvington and when school was closed due to snow me and my sisters would walk to this bowling alley in Irvington. 4 white kids between the ages of 11 and 14. Probably wasn’t the smartest/safest thing to do but it was the only bowling alley within walking distance.
I know you can't judge an entire nation based upon a neighbourhood shown on a video , and of course I won't be judgemental, we have really bad and derelict areas in Italy too but levels of degradation seen in the USA are more surprising as it is the most powerful and rich nation in history. Greetings from Italy.
drove through there last night and never noticed how bad the area was until i was at a gas station at midnight lol, i’m from paterson and i can’t lie irvington actually got some wild vibes
Hey, Charlie, have you been to Passaic NJ if you have not the next time your in Jersey you should do a video there Some of the bad parts are Passaic st and Market st President st and Dayton Ave Lexington Ave and Monroe st Myrtle Ave and Monroe st or Van Houtan Ave and Howe Ave
I've ordered stuff online and have noticed my packages pass through here...😱 I had no idea this is what this place looked like...those packages have probably seen some things...😦
Trina J. Summit ave is half Hillside half Newark..can’t tell the difference. Same with Maple ave. You don’t want to be out there slipping late at night even on the Hillside side.
I was born and raised in this city #IRVINGTON on 19th ave, lol I wonder why you edited the video when as you were approaching my old block ( we call that area the jungle ) . For the record we go harder than Newark but we all fam so ✊🏿
I remember back in the 50’s, early 60’s when Irvington was all white. You barely even saw a black person there, unless they worked there, and Newark was the same. Then we came in and look what our people did to those cities. It’s a shame, and we wonder why white people don’t want to live around us. Hell... I don’t want to live around us.
Kylie_ 536 I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think ptsd had much to do with the destruction of these cities. I believe it’s due to lack of education, low income, single parent households, and a complete lack of self pride. You could put these same people in a nice neighborhood right now and they would tear it down. You know I’m telling the truth. They look for any excuse to start a riot, and then burn their OWN town down, and then start looting... stealing cell phones, sneakers, hair, and big screen TVs. I hate to ask, but how often do you hear of any other race of people doing this? There’s no pride or logic, so again I ask, “who would want to live around them if they any way of escaping”, I wouldn’t. They create their own hell, then stand back and say, look what white man did to them. Then they ask the same whit man for welfare, food stamps, and section 8.
I live in the area and I agree with some of what you say, but I think it's about the mentality of the people in the community and not their skin color. There's white neighborhoods that look like shit too (I'm white btw). You can go into Maplewood NJ which isn't far from the "ghetto" and it's all half a million dollar homes, white picket fences and the majority of the people living there are black.
Brian Bianco I understand what you're saying. I live in a fairly decent neighborhood, a few blocks from Maplewood. I think you'll agree that these people in Maplewood are not suffering from a lack of education, low income, and mostly single parent households. And they surely aren't suffering from a lack of self pride. My girlfriend's son and his wife have a beautiful single family home there. He's big In real estate and his wife is a college professor. His own son is 22 and has one more year in college and has just landed a summer internship working for Bloomberg starting at $24 per hour. It just goes to show what people can do if they really try to better themselves and stop sitting back with their hand stuck out, blaming other people.
My family and I moved to Irvington in the late 60's from Newark, and you are right there wasn't many of us living there. This is crazy looking at how it looks now. We(Blacks and Hispanics) got to get it together.
East Coast You again!? Knock off the uncle Tom senerio. You still be a ghetto jiver no matter what race you are. Any upscale person of any race still despises you.
We didn't have "Hoods"We had Neighborhoods. We had block party's. We helped each other clean up. We didn't live in trash because "SOMEBODY ELSE" made a mess. We cleaned it up.
Such a shame these homes have been neglected like this, the architecture to me looks better than most new homes today, a little gentrification and streets like these would look amazing
This is a town of the 80's urban decay drugs movement and corruption also, it may have been going downhill after the late 60's early 70's. That's probably why they closed the Olympic Park because the earlier residents at that time knew this was coming and left for places outside of Irvington.
Louie Lopez Patterson is a shithole. Also full of city sleazebags. The great parts of NJ are the hometown regions. And I'm not talking about the shitty suburbs near a city. I'm talking about the close knit towns.

The first 18 seconds of this video is Newark heading west into Irvington along Springfield. Plus I always say the worst part of Irvington is on the east part of the Garden State Parkway where this is being filmed at.
As Irvington's premier UA-cam channel this cuts deep but is the reality of the conditions of PORTIONS of the town, I promise there are nice parts. We're working on turning this around (or blowing it up, whichever is cheaper)
I agree! Some parts of Jersey has cowfields and pastures. Other parts like Patterson... Jersey City and Newark are very much like NewYork City areas; such as Brooklyn and Queens and Staten ISLAND. Nothing much like midtown Manhattan though! I live in FLORIDA, and it's alot like south JERSEY MT. LAUREL AND CHERRY HILL come to mind. I grew up in an I talian american neighborhood in Central Jersey right by Plainfield. Goodluck, where ever you hang your hat, from Mike Guitarist!

i practically lived in irvington all my life, somewhere between the good and bad area, (since there are no good ones)2002-2016 it was when i started goin to hs when i spent less time there and more in maplewood. its crazy how big it is and how many areas i aint know about that much
Lol when I was in high school I got lost here after my schools hockey team won championship and when I was driving down the street these two niggas were smashing up a car to shit with baseball bats like in that spongebob episode saying to driver “out the car bitch”. It was hilarious seeing that.
I grew up one town west in Maplewood. By the Maplewood loop where the bus turn around was. My mom would take me when i was 5. We would walk to the bus and ride up to Irvington. Go shopping on Springfield ave. Almost to Newark. Would always hit the 5 and 10....was beutiful. That was around 1960 or 61. Then in the mid 70s I worked construction and would get laid off in the winter. Had to go stand in line at unemployment right across from the A&P...then there was Motionz night club. Kind of an underground rock/punkish place that smelled like piss...but good bands and cheap costs..probably no place for a white guy down there now...
missKushite Why should America be ashamed cause of Irvington? What does the KKK have to do with Irvington? Irvington is full of ghetto jivers and city sleazebags that ruined it.
This city is a disgrace... every other building is boarded up. They refused to let developers in, they’re afraid of #gentrification how #ignorant is that? you’re okay living in a city like this. The mayor don’t give a darn and the same people keep electing them over and over. Why change? #mayor #mayortonyvargas #irvingtonnj
Nah. Weirdly enough Irvington is hood but it's more dirty than hood. It's like you said, they don't care. Even the nice houses on Stuyvesant have an elegant element of rachetness to them. Oddly enough one of the streets he was probably on is South Orange Ave and it connects to South Orange which is one of the best towns to live. Sexy girls, business people, young people, rich people. All 10 minutes from this. I MET WHOOPIE GOLDBERG on South Orange Ave!! It was dark. Me and my sister made small talk with her and didn't realize it til she left. My mom told me it was her too because they spoke under a street light. In my opinion tho, East Orange and Newark is worst. Camden has the statistics but shit goes down in these two places and no matter how much you are in the house, you'll see some. I remember getting up for breakfast and Pokemon when I was ten, soon as I reached for my TV niggaz were next to my open window talking about bodies. I stopped and touched nothing until they left. 10 minutes.
I remember I used to go see my boyfriend cause he used to live over there but we both move out to live in Atl as matter fact after he move like months later he brought me up to be wit him so I won’t have to stay in Newark nomore & my aunt lives right down the street right off from 19th street I used to spend the night over there all the time but I do miss my city doe no lie
Stop showing only the bad parts of IRVINGTON, there are better places as you go up Springfield ave away from Newark, all videos should start at city hall first.GOD Bless you.

Facts a New Jersey GTA game would be fucking crazy. Real east Coast shit.
MY FATHER HAD A BUTCHER SHOP ON 18TH AVE AND I USE TO DELIVERY ORDERS AROUND WHOLE TOWN IN 1969- 1972 .. NOT BAD AT ALL BACK THEN ..
paradizio gentlemens club on clinton ave is the SPOT lmao
Ahh Irvington Newark's backyard.
I thought that was Elizabeth and Bayonne that were both Newark's urban backyards.
Lee-Monet
Yes it is
East orange too
Robert Preskop Nah Bayonne And Elizabeth are two different Towns not to mention I’m two Different Counties.
Used to be the front yard long time ago..
So many people hating on Irvington but I loved reminded me of my hometown Oakland before gentrification when it was a black city. I seen many black home owners in Irvington and black employees all over the city.
What he is showing is NOT the whole Irvington trust me. Irvington going towards Maplewood looks much better and it's quieter.
Guys lets make some donations to this dude right here please guys it will literally fund all the travelling expenses for his great work.
Good place to have a overhead steel door business
drove through there last night and never noticed how bad the area was until i was at a gas station at midnight lol, i’m from paterson and i can’t lie irvington actually got some wild vibes
Hey, Charlie, have you been to Passaic NJ if you have not the next time your in Jersey you should do a video there
Some of the bad parts are
Passaic st and Market st President st and Dayton Ave Lexington Ave and Monroe st Myrtle Ave and Monroe st or Van Houtan Ave and Howe Ave
the abandoment is real...
I've ordered stuff online and have noticed my packages pass through here...😱 I had no idea this is what this place looked like...those packages have probably seen some things...😦
Irvington/Newark/East Orange area. A thug zone
Wardenwarden warden and a little bit of Hillside
@@duster43 I disagree. Hillside is paradise compared to Irvington and East Orange.
Trina J. Summit ave is half Hillside half Newark..can’t tell the difference. Same with Maple ave. You don’t want to be out there slipping late at night even on the Hillside side.
Jersey has so many areas its insane.....
Lol true that
I was born and raised in this city #IRVINGTON on 19th ave, lol I wonder why you edited the video when as you were approaching my old block ( we call that area the jungle ) . For the record we go harder than Newark but we all fam so ✊🏿
Emphasize "going harder"
I was on 19 an ellis...my sunday alarm clock wake up was stolen car tires sounds 😂😂😂..i was there 2004 wen killing was a everyday thing
looks like a nice very quiet town..............many many nice homes and vehicles..........so peaceful.......beautiful.........thanks
Certainly an upgrade from Newark. Can’t wait to get back there.
Irvington,NJ looks very rough and filthy
It is lol
We didn't have "Hoods"We had Neighborhoods. We had block party's. We helped each other clean up. We didn't live in trash because "SOMEBODY ELSE" made a mess. We cleaned it up.
Such a shame these homes have been neglected like this, the architecture to me looks better than most new homes today, a little gentrification and streets like these would look amazing
50 years ago was beautiful city....
Baryka Stop in time
Another Democratic chocolate 🍫 city.
This is a town of the 80's urban decay drugs movement and corruption also, it may have been going downhill after the late 60's early 70's. That's probably why they closed the Olympic Park because the earlier residents at that time knew this was coming and left for places outside of Irvington.
After MLK got killed every black area went to dirt.
I love New Jersey for life! I was born and raised in Paterson!
Louie Lopez Patterson is a shithole. Also full of city sleazebags. The great parts of NJ are the hometown regions. And I'm not talking about the shitty suburbs near a city. I'm talking about the close knit towns.
@@highclass2982 places like Princeton and Cape May are very beautiful and quite safe. You dont have to worry about gunfire and slumlords in either Princeton or in Cape May.
@@robertpreskop4425 Edison is awesome too
Me too
I've Paterson cool but some fux up ppl on market street ouuuweee
Yo this dude in Irvington now, yo you the real hood 2 hood
Newark/Irvington border..Gangland War zone
Joe Calleja ant really been much going on tho
By Grove shit been quite
Righttt...yuuuhhearrd!
Azariah Johnson Not true? You must be a city shoobie residing there in denial.
Joe Calleja what’s the name of this area pls ??
Using the street as trash can says a lot about their upbringing. People raised dependent have an entirely different way of thinking as compared to a person who has worked since they were 16, put themselves through college, and worked their entire lives. I know I accidentally married one it was a nightmare! Everyone is asleep during the and up all night. They don't get out of bed before 1:00pm! Babies are money machines and reqalyy have no other purpose.
New Jersey seems to have the worst in usa.
What part of Irvington is this pls ??
was beautiful in the late 1960's olympic park, diners, jimmy buff's ihs etc
I grew up on corner house on Nesbitt terrace and prospect till I was 12 and then we moved to Florida , I thought it was ghetto as hell in 92' now dam it looks like Chernobyl lmao, for real
The first 18 seconds of this video is Newark heading west into Irvington along Springfield. Plus I always say the worst part of Irvington is on the east part of the Garden State Parkway where this is being filmed at.
I live in irvington but I never seen some of these places😂
Same here but that's around 21st and the rest of the number streets.
I used to live there like at 5:53 around there
This is where it all started for me I'll never forget the long nites that made the Bo$$.
As Irvington's premier UA-cam channel this cuts deep but is the reality of the conditions of PORTIONS of the town, I promise there are nice parts. We're working on turning this around (or blowing it up, whichever is cheaper)
Twiztaphate change starts with the people...GOOD LUCK WITH THAT
Blow it up
I lived in Jersey for 22 years,it really looks no different from NewYork now that I live in Florida!
Depends where u at honestly Staten island look a lot like jersey tho
Is Stuffy's still there?
This was cool back in the day.sucks how it looks now, grew up on 22nd st went to Berkeley Terrace and Myrtle..glad to see the fire hydrant still there in summer that corner was it...and the mailbox when it use to be there was the spot..good memories
Those roll-down anti-blast doors lend a certain ambiance to the hood..
Tht shit was probably beautiful back in the day
Romero Montgomery it was man... Newark was too..
what’s da name of the first hood
Wow to think I used to play football for the Irvington blue knights what a time
Charlie when are you coming back to Dayton next? If you have an email address or some other social media spots, I wanted to tell you about the bad spots in both Dayton and Cincinnati to film
Can't say for sure. I know I want to do more of Cincinnati, hopefully before the year ends.
CharlieBo313 Where can I contact you off site about some spots?
My business email at Jeeklebuther@gmail.com.
CharlieBo313 ok I will get back with you there sometime soon
Charlie I did send you an email with some pretty good information about the worst Dayton, Ohio hoods, well I look forward to talking with you via email and seeing what you can do
Lived on Montgomery Ave..brought back memories I always felt safer in little bricks and parts of Brooklyn
i ordered an amazon package from irvington n tucked my chain while opening it.
Could you please show some of the worst parts of Jersey City?
Duncan Gardens pehaps? How about Currys Woods?
Ed Chevalier curry woods is gone that knocked them down only pjs is up is Marion projects and Booker T I think Booker still up maybe that's down too JC was real shitty back in the 90z really really bad
That's good news actually. Yup, JC was on the slide for a long time. I left there in 83 but still had family there for a while. Thanks for taking the time to give me a heads up. Still have fond m,emries of the place though. I suppose White Mana is still there, huh?
Ed Chevalier idk about white mana im from jersey city warners ave but I was never raised there therefore I came and gone as I please I just found out recently that most pjs in JC were knocked down but truthfully havnt been there in years but I got fam there still too and from wut I hear JC pretty much still the same as far as drugs and crime go but you prolly knew that lol
Got ya. I'm not there any more. I live way out in the country where I have to be careful driving so I don't hit a bear or a moose. A long way from JC. been away so long I no longer go into cities unless I'm forced to.
I love it.
Enjoy your day brother.
i practically lived in irvington all my life, somewhere between the good and bad area, (since there are no good ones)2002-2016 it was when i started goin to hs when i spent less time there and more in maplewood. its crazy how big it is and how many areas i aint know about that much
thanks for the new video homie
White flight.
I grew up in Irvington, Ellis ave. It was beautiful. Damn
152 19th Ave I use to play on Ellis Ave..
I live in the Building on the corner of 166 Ellis ave and Springfield ave. went to Berkeley elementary, and myrtle ave junior high. Peace
I went to grove St in summer school at Berkeley but played up in down Ellis in grove in 18 Ave
why do i feel like a toot of crack when i watch these vids .
Lol when I was in high school I got lost here after my schools hockey team won championship and when I was driving down the street these two niggas were smashing up a car to shit with baseball bats like in that spongebob episode saying to driver “out the car bitch”. It was hilarious seeing that.
Jersey got so many cities w hoods 😂.
Its very interesting hearing how it was back then
Ever present trash in these neighborhoods
Moved from Irvington down south when i was 10, glad i did now.
Lots of vacant buildings. Guess most folks can't afford to live there.
Of course not. It would cost them their lives.
true the taxes are crazy.............a home worth 147K has taxes over 7K!!!!!!!!!!!!! only east orange has highest taxes in essex cty
You’re right though. Even the hood in Jersey is unaffordable 😂
Anerikkka should be ashamed!!
missKushite Why should America be ashamed cause of Irvington? What does the KKK have to do with Irvington? Irvington is full of ghetto jivers and city sleazebags that ruined it.
Irvington was once a beautiful town. It’s demise has nothing to do with America.
NJ has high state taxes and seems fucked up in a lot of places
This city is a disgrace... every other building is boarded up. They refused to let developers in, they’re afraid of #gentrification how #ignorant is that? you’re okay living in a city like this. The mayor don’t give a darn and the same people keep electing them over and over. Why change? #mayor #mayortonyvargas #irvingtonnj
I rode past there today and i was just telling my girl how if u look at a person wrong up there u get killed......smh
Super.
Its inly irvington if street signs blue
I used to post up on crescent lane with my bro’s and smoke. Swat pulled up one day I was mad
I'm from Camden. I used to stay with my aunt in Irvington in the 90's. It use to be so clean there. Looking pretty bad now Smh
JERZEYSFINEST Camden sucks also. Full of city sleazebags.
Looks like a ghost town! It shows you that people don’t care.
Puppy Cuteness irvingtons nickname is called ghostown
Rockwell2000 Good to know. Thank you didn’t know that. Is this the worst part of New Jersey?
10 minutes.
Funny thing is we actually call this place Irvington... Ghost Town fr... Cause of the walking dead
Puppy Cuteness nothing to care about. It’s a slum.
Was WHITE TOWN when I lived in IRVINGTON gd.times for me.HAA
Das war doch mal ein wohlhabender Ort der oberen Mittelschicht, eine Schande was daraus wurde.
Political correction ....No coments...
So sad that I don’t recognize any of my home town anymore
Redlining destroyed these neighborhoods potential years ago.
So did blockbusting.
You hittin up milwaukee again this year?
Hopefully.
+CharlieBo313 yo do East Orange Nj hood
Stop showing only the bad parts of IRVINGTON, there are better places as you go up Springfield ave away from Newark, all videos should start at city hall first.GOD Bless you.
I show the bad parts of everwhere. Perhaps you should go to a channel that show the good parts.
Still pretty hood that way buddy until you reach maplewood, than a few blocks down youre in vauxhall another hood that borders millburn

Irvington is like Newarks first cousin and East Orange is Newarks step brother.
