When America experienced lower poverty rates than any other advanced democracy, local governments designated specific areas known as "Settlers' Landings." These areas were intended for people across the country who intentionally left their previous homes behind in search of improved living standards. They allowed them to exchange ideas and share their creativity to progress in resettling. This initiative aimed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote creativity to advance society.
In contrast, a sign of the times is that civic authorities now employ "Social Identity Deconstruction," which many people perceive as a form of isolation and humiliation. The California author Jack London captured the stark contrast between the "Homeless" and the American Settler tactic in his observation: "Class supremacy can rest only on class degradation," as expressed in his work, "The People of the Abyss."

The issue is slowly but surely areas once populated by poor and working class people will be gentrified. Thus , rents will escalate and the working class will be displaced. Rents will no longer be affordable

This situation could be solved by giving local residents ownership and training to fix those abandoned-looking properties up. But that unity, desire for education, focus, conflict resolution and problem-solving is usually lacking in places like this in the world so you have to minimize that, too, or the local residents will continue to throw trash, tag up walls, break windows, and break into properties, etc.

Those houses must have been lovely to live in, in their time, they remind me of the terraced style houses and the corner shops here in England. No offence but in colonial America times it was one of the finest cities in the States.😢

You cannot control where you were born & raised, but, as an adult, you CAN 100% control where you live and how YOU maintain your neighborhood. This shows NO caring, NO class, NO respect. There is no law stating that today but it's now by choice... However, 60 years ago in Baltimore, there was such laws... When they got rid of the laws, scum "blockbusters" would come into a white neighborhood, buy up one house and place a black family there, then all the whites would sell their houses for pennies on the dollar due to fear and the blockbusters made huge profits. Then the blockbusters would either resell the houses to blacks at inflated interest rates or just turn to slumlords renting into the houses fell apart.

I used to live in Anne Arundel County, outside of Charm City. I used to spend a lot of time in Baltimore with friends, guys I dated, places to eat, concerts, dancing, museums. It used to be a lot of fun. Too much crime , too many empty souls, places that are abandoned, no respect.

That's a common sight in the hood, they're drug dealers. They stand in front of stores because of the traffic going in and out.

This area (west baltimore) will never be gentrified. There is nothing, absolutely nothing there.... Hampden, Fells Point, SOuth Baltimore, and areas up by Johns Hopkins hospital are being heavily gentrified right now.

It doesn’t happen overnight. Many sections of New York City have slowly gentrified. Areas that were once predominantly African American are now a diverse mixed income population

Things will get better for Baltimore. Our Governor has started a program for kids getting out of high school called the service year. They can learn a trade, volunteer, do apprenticeships, work with career coaches and upon completion earn money forward college. It’s great for kids who may not have plans, even know what they want to do or can’t afford college. They will earn $15 an hour for full time work during the service year.
They are also extending the light rail which will be great for the city.

Must be zero community spirit. The litter and rubbish here and to be fair in most of Charlie's videos is just depressing! Where i live of course morons still throw litter but there is community spirit and we do our best to keep our surroundings tidy . As for the buildings it looks like a war has just finished. It's amazing this is USA and yet its a depressing state

Despite the houses being in poor condition, the infrastructure of the neighborhood is excellent, much better than any middle-class neighborhood in Latin America or Africa. It is the politicians' laziness that does not improve people's living conditions; it is easy to do that there. There is money.

It's really scary and haunted looking around the back western edge of Baltimore. Where the Amtrack train runs by. There's so many boarded up and deserted row houses. Walking 🚶‍♂️ around there at night, I bet, is terrifying. You don't know if you're find a dead body or large Rats all over the place.
