A rumor about The Magic Roundabout and why the dog's name was translated to Dougal in the english dub is because the president of France at the time was Charles de Gaulle and it was a play on his last name. So I everytime I'm reminded of this movie I remember that one of my favorite historical figures ever is cursed with having his named tied to this disaster.
@@TheDerpyBoi I haven't really heard anything about that aside from Mark's video, but I wouldn't mind since de Gaulle is definitely in my dream blunt rotation.

Secret of The Hunchback is a particularly odd adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, with an odd ending. But if you wanna go more insulting and bad than weird, then an alternate adaptation you could review if you want could be: The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Goldenfilms). All fun alternatives, both of which have twists, stories that have weird and unnecessary additions, and a dose of "what the everloving h*ck is this?" One makes me laugh and I forget about it, and one makes me laugh but also rant for 10 minutes from frustration every single time.
I know a lot of people from the UK who feel really nostalgic for The Magic Roundabout version of the film. I never knew about all of the other versions the movie lmao, nice to see you back
This reminds me of all the bad early dubs of kid's anime like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, or Digi-mon where they Americanized a ton of the dialogue, threw in pop-culture references that didn't appear in the originals, and most annoying of all they NEVER LET THE CHARACTERS SHUT UP even when no one on screen was supposed to be talking. It's like they thought if someone wasn't speaking *constantly* then kids would lose interest and change the channel, so you never had a quiet moment for anything to sink in, and it was always either unnecessary exposition, mindless banter, or bad jokes that were added, never anything of real importance.
The only VA’s from the UK dub who reprised their roles for the US dub were Kylie Minogue & Ian McKellen. Meanwhile everyone got recast. And believe me, the UK cast will always be superior to what the US got. Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Joanna Lumley, Ray Winstone, Robbie Williams and TOM MOTHERF***ING BAKER!!!! Magic Roundabout > Doogal
I don't know why Zeebad saying "animals will be harmed in the making of this film" makes me laugh as much as it does because it really isn't that funny.
In fact, it is probably due to the popularity of Shrek that Weinstein tried to replicate it. It worked better in Shrek and even Hoodwinked becauae they were satires of fairy tales through postmodern lens. Especially Shrek 2; like, a parody of Cops but with knights instead? And Fairy Godmother singing Holding Out For A Hero? Great stuff. The references in Doogal don't make much sense cause it wasn't originally made as a satire. Also, this is just a nitpick in comparison but they should have gotten the UK Doogal to voice him again because the replacement is... oof. I think the contrast of how he sounds in the trailer vs how the final one sounds could convince me that Hartman really was screwed over. I don't know how to feel about Oaxis, but I still beleive him over Weinstein.
I loved this movie as a kid and probably still would... The magic roundabout Mine was the UK dub though, and I did know about the original source material
Unfortunately, there's no reason to rant about Doogal because the original British-franco co-production was merely a forgettable cash grab on a show Europe forgotten decades ago.
Looking back when I watched the film as a kid and liked it... Yeah the movie was pretty werid and the dub and words they said we're werid too... And for some reason I still like it... Not cuz it's good but because it's just that bad that it's good.
Good first video in the series. I admit this movie gave me some decent memories of the character designs. Nowadays, that respect goes to the original creators of the magic roundabout as oppose to this awful film. As for a recommendation, my friend said that a film called the magic voyage was terrible.
I think I saw this movie maybe once when I was like five. I didn’t even understand half of those pop culture references, I just thought the dog was cute. The only thing I got out of watching it, was the potter humor and the character designs. I do remember hating the rabbit because he’s just so ugly.
I remember this movie from my childhood, but I can't recall what happened. The carousel stopped and the people were... Freezing? Fall asleep? I know I was kind of freaked out by the villain, but I was like 6-7, so it's excusable I guess... Oh, and I watched the Hungarian dub, I dunno how much better or worse it is, because I only remember how some voices sounded like, but nothing from the dialogue... I was thinking about watching the English dub for practising, but I will just rewatch the Hun dub instead and let's see how I feel about it now. Or maybe the og French with sub... Edit: Okay, I am more than half-way through the Hungarian dub and it was appearently translated from the UK version, so there are no fart jokes/unnessecary narration, talking moose, or other characters talking where they are not supposed to, or too much popculture references (the only thing so far is the Swan Lake, but it's related to the character's past and knowledge of the character who mentions it), and the casting is really fitting (Doug sounds so annoying to me in the US dub, while here he is voiced by the same guy like Paddington, giving him charm), and while there are puns, most of them doesn't feel forced and can get kinda creative, some of them don't lend, but most of it does... And the vocabulary they used makes it clear that the people who were behind the translation cared about the movie. (But my favourite part has to be so far Zeebad and Zebedee's names. Zeebad became Zuzmor and Zebedee became Zizidor. Zuzmor comes from the word "zúzmara" which means frost, Zizidor is a wordplay on "Izidor" and "zizi". Izidor is a name for boys, and zizi is a word for someone who has some screwloose or someone who is a little joky and playful.) It's not a masterpiece, but it's fine. It's not too memorable, but a few jokes made me chuckle. I think the US dub tried to make it funnier, but it comes up more forced and it tries to hard to be "hip and cool with the kids". Why do we hear the thoughts of the train though? It doesn't add anything to the plot, it just what is happening at the moment or things we could figure out from his "body-language"...
For bad animated movies, I recommend Free Birds, a movie I reviewed a couple years ago. It has a couple of decent scenes in my opinion, but the movie overall is just not very good. A dumb premise, idiotic and juvenile humor, and just not very entertaining in general if you ask me.
