There will NEVER be another band to TOP the TIGHTNESS of these guys, performing: TOGETHER!! They were like ONE MOVING MUSCLE, together, and yet: FED off EACH OTHER'S GENIUS and CREATIVITY!!! JUST SOOOOO GOOD!!! ENJOY!!
Interesting tie in with hip hop is that a couple of John Bonham's beats have been sampled and used on a lot of rap tracks over the years... including this beat right here. When The Levee Breaks is another one.
I grew up listening to this from my parents. So I've listened to LED ZEP for a very long time. I love Black Dog, but I have 2 songs that always make me want to hear now. 1- "Since I've Been Loving You" AND 2- "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." Omg! Such amazing songs! One more I love is "Going to California."
@@Sighdafekt I love Dazed & Confused! Have you ever seen "The Song Remains the Same" ? That song with Jimmy Page with a bow on the 12 string guitar is epic! 😃
Did this get radio play? Yes. The studio version was all over FM radio for literally decades, but particularly in the 70's and still very heavily into the 80's. Still hear it regularly.
A tip, almost all Zeppelin songs are better with the studio version, after hearing the studio version then you can hear the live version for contrast but always start on the studio version.
There used to be radio stations classified as AOR (album oriented rock) stations that would play any song off an album as opposed to top 40 stations that only played singles released. So, most of Led Zeppelin and other rock bands’ songs were having songs played on the radio that were deeper cuts on albums as well as the most popular. Led Zeppelin was only interested in crafting albums as a cohesive musical experience and not a disjointed bunch of songs. They never wanted to release singles and I think they only released 10-15 in total to appease the label and the US radio market.
Considering out of all their songs, they have only a couple that hang at the bottom of the list. If you could put 10 songs as favorite firsts & 10 for second & 10 for third, & so on, that about how it is. I can pick my favorite live performances easier. Live at Madison Square Gardens (1973) Since I’ve Been Loving You, but everything from that concert is amazing. Live at Earls Court, the May 25,1975 version ONLY! In My Time Of Dying, that date has the best audio & visuals. Knebworth (1979) Achilles Last Stand, a killer song. Thank you for your reaction, PLEASE do a lot more Led Zeppelin.
BEST BAND EVER! JIMMY PAGE = GOAT 🥰🥰 It's so apparent how much respect these guys have for each other and their work. I love how Pagey always gets a kick when Bonzo just stays with him and then they're just insync again. Plant used to smile ear to ear when Pagey and/or Bonzo occassionally sang backup background vocals with him.
Yes, there was lots of radio time in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I couldn't tell you the last time I heard this on the FM dial, and I listen to the radio often. Bada$$ as you said, and that was Zeppelin. Thanks for the reaction.
I have Sirius XM in my car, I play classic vinyl & hear Zeppelin often. More often only a certain few are played, even back in the day, sadly a lot of great ones go unheard.
LZ from the very start...LZ one ...amazing...where to you from"absolutely amazing?...LZ put out #2...#3...zozo...ect.ect....BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD
Rumors is an album where you'll find some really famous tracks. I think their masterpiece though is Landslide, it's a truly beautiful song, covered countless times, evening you don't react to it listen,if you don't know it already, it really worth it
Black Dog, Kashmir, Immigrant Song, D'yer Mak'er, The Ocean, All My Love, Ramble On, When The Levee Breaks, The Song Remains The Same, ........ these are the ones I can remember that played on my radio station. and many more I'm sure that my brain isn't clicking right now. Oh Dazed and Confused is another good one.
A lot of top bands couldn’t stand Led Zeppelin but liked each of the band members. It had to have something to do with how great they were as a whole. They’ve always been my favorite from LZ 1 to their decision to end it after John’s passing.
Time changes are really tricky in this song. I never got it. I admit it. Just never got it and don't know how the hell four guys could stay with it so perfectly live.
Stairway to Heaven was one they played on the radio in the 90's. After scrapping up enough for their CD, I found Black Dog and become another favorite. The drums at the end just hit different this morning. Perfect way to describe their solos or jams to hip hop fans.
Zeppelin are the most sampled band in history, so you've probably heard more Zeppelin than you think. :) Jimmy Page is my favourite guitarist of all-time! He wasn't even trying here, believe me! :) "Since O've Been Loving You", from the same concert, would be a fantastic next pick. One of the greatest live performances in history! Though I'd recommend listening to the album version too. Both are unbelievably good! :)
You’re right- huge radio play. Nasty, nasty groove as only Zepp can do it! Normally love the live versions of Zepp are what I like the best, but actually like the studio version of Black Dog best.
Grew up listening- dad listened to 70,80s Rock- and it’s a stable for BBQs and cleaning the backyard- my 5 year old daughter LOVES immigrant song-led zeppelin 3- loves singing (trying to) and dancing around
This was a favorite of Anne Wilson of Heart and they worked this into their playlist for many of their shows. You can find YT vids of Heart covering this one.... excellent...
Love Led Zeppelin. You might like to check out Aussie singer John Farnham doing a cover of this. John used this as his mic check song and absolutely slays it ❤.
Love Led Zeppelin 💚💚💚Jimmy Page greatest guitarist in my opinion or at least top 3-4 Robert Plant had an amazingly unique voice Should react to the one where Jimmy page plays guitar 🎸 with a bow like cello bow
At 4:00 when you got that "huh" look lol, YES Jimmy was playing on the wrong section of the fretboard lol. He's also probably 17 kinds of effed up, but still blasts out that solo like a beast :D
That's incorrect. In the studio version, there is an overdub added to the riff toward the backend of the song. Page ALWAYS plays this higher sounding overdub in that section. He played it that way very often. Not a mistake.
Hey Cliff I know this is probably a longshot but if you’re looking for new stuff to react to you should check out Leon Bridges, super underrated and just brings a different vibe! (River or Lisa Sawer are my personal favs) Love as always big dawg 💙
if you were lucky enough to go to hard rock park at myrtle beach the one year it was open before it went bankrupt then you know this song is perfect for the roller coaster they made for it. the most absurd amusement park ever but the idea was good.
Guitarists can definitely be competitive. There's a story about Prince getting snubbed by Rolling Stone for the top 100 greatest guitarists of all time feature, so he showed up and melted the crowd at the George Harrison Tribute with one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. The video's up on youtube if you haven't seen it yet (go for the one with over 100 mil views to get the OG experience).
@@redpine8665 you can dislike the show, certainly, but idk about Prince being out there just to draw attention to himself. Although I was telling the colloquial story (which is mythic by nature), in truth he was definitely there to honor George and to cheer on Dhani. Remember him turning his back on the crowd to play to Dhani and making him smile? That was a beautiful thing to do for the Harrisons. If Prince was somehow disrespecting George by performing that tribute, then so was everyone else on that stage. The show of skill in the face of how terribly underrated he is as a guitarist was just extra. Besides, for a guitarist I'd think the greatest tribute you could ask for is a sick-ass guitar solo in your honor.
You seem to love killer rock guitar. You gotta check out Terry Kath on Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4 from Tanglewood. Jimi Hendrix called Terry a better player than himself.
This is one of the only Zeppelin guitar riffs that Jimmy Page didn't write. John Paul Jones, the bass player, actually wrote it and when he showed it to Page, Jimmy actually had a hard time with it because of the weird time signatures.

Other commenters are right- Led Zep studio songs are infinitely superior. TBH this live version of Black Dog doesn't even sound that good to me. Saw them live a few times & always a great show. But to sit home & listen to them, their musicianship only really stands out as world class in the studio. One dum guy's opinion, man. I mean this is almost nails-on-the -chalkboard compared to studio Black Dog, which never ceases to amaze.
ENJOY!!
I call them different parts of one musician, because even with improvising songs different every night, they all flow like it’s one persons decision.
"Since I've Been Loving You" at Madison Square Garden is fire!
YES!
Any tune from this Madison Square Garden performance...is Zeppelin at their pinnacle.
My deserted island Album...Song Remains The Same
Always here for Led Zeppelin
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Boham ... GODS of Rock n Roll.

I'm 66 yo and Zepp has been my favorite band ever! The played 3 hour concerts no band ever did that!
Allman Brothers Band did and more.

I agree!
Every live gig is like a jam session.

Ive been a fan since early 70s. They are the GOAT in rock/ blues music.
Thanks for the Led Zeppelin ❤
Lets go cliff beats 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Check out "The Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin its soooo dope!
"Baby I don't want to leave you" Did ya hear those raw tube amps? Memories! 70s blasting and blasted.

stairway to heaven was played basically non stop for a year. they were all over the place.
i hear Led Zeppelin all the time, still. One radio station here has Zeppelin for 2 hours every Saturday.
I have Sirius XM in my car, I play classic vinyl & hear Zeppelin often. More often only a certain few are played, even back in the day, sadly a lot of great ones go unheard.
Nothing like led Zeppelin, lucky enough to see them multiple times live. Couple of my favorites since I've been Loving you, lemon song.

The tune was named after a dog that, hung out with the band on the studio’s premises during production of the album.
Fleetwood mac is another that my mom loved

Kashmir by Zepplin is probably the song you should listen to... it has a story behind it as well.
A lot of top bands couldn’t stand Led Zeppelin but liked each of the band members. It had to have something to do with how great they were as a whole. They’ve always been my favorite from LZ 1 to their decision to end it after John’s passing.

The epitome of a rock star, and sexy as hell
Another thing that gave Zeppelin its unique sound is evident in this song. It's Bonzo getting in with the guitar and not just following the bass line.
