Thank god for you posting this video!!!! I'm having my procedure done tomorrow morning at 8:00 am. I am much more calm about this after hearing your experience! Same with the anxiety disorder, it's terrible.
I had this procedure today and it really wasn't bad at all. The worst bit for me was the spray at the back of the throat which tastes pretty awful. You do gag a little bit as the camera is put down your throat, but it only lasts a moment. I was sedated, which just makes you feel relaxed but still fully conscious throughout. If I was to do this again I think I'd just go for the spray only. If anyone is going to have this procedure I'd say don't worry, it's absolutely fine, I've had no side effects at all and was back at work an hour or two later. I've had no nasty side effects, not even a sore throat.

I had it without any anesthetics, with just the numbing thing and it was quite an unpleasant experience. Nothing too bad, but just uncomfortable, because you could feel a foreign object going down your throat, into your stomach, which is an experience on itself. Also (emetophobia tw?) it involved a lot of gagging which is never pleasant.
Thank you so much for this video. I've just come home from having my endoscopy and a week ago I was panicking a lot about it having anxiety myself too, my boyfriend found your video and showed me it and it made me feel a lot more at ease. I was absolutely dead set on having sedation until the doctor convinced me otherwise, I ended up having the throat spray and it really want half as bad as I thought it would be, I mean it wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't awful. Thank you so much for making this video, it really helped put my mind at ease.
I had it done today and I didn't feel anything, I went under in less than 3 minutes and woke up painless Just drowsy for the most part. It happen really fast and yes it was over before I knew it. It's really nothing to worry about accepted for the IV pinch when that was over it was a relief.NO WORRIES!!
I couldn't agree more! I watched your video a few days after I had my sedated endoscopy earlier this week (should have watched it before 😁!). The procedure itself was very smooth and over before I knew it. No discomfort and no gagging at all, which I had been worried about. It turns out that being so chilled out by the sedative totally did the job it's designed to do. The main anxiety I suffered was in fact the anticipation of the procedure, and not the procedure at all! The two things that were a bit annoying actually occurred after the procedure. One was when lying in recovery and not being sure when I could start swallowing properly again, slightly afraid I might choke if I do, because my throat still felt numb. Maybe some better explanations by the staff could have avoided that. And the other was an annoying tickle in my throat, causing me to cough, about two or three hours later. But after drinking some tea it got better very quickly, and then it went away before I knew it. But in summary: Anyone who needs to get an endoscopy, sedation is the way to go! No reason whatsoever to be worried about it!
@@jasminrabadan1584 No, I didn't throw up, just a cough for a couple of hours, that was it. No reason to be scared at all. It'll be over before you know it. Good luck!
Hi Claudia (tw emetophobia) I just wanted to say I had the same thing done a few months back and my experience was very different. Obviously if anyone is having it and is scared maybe don't read this but I feel the need to prepare some people for what happened to me. I had the sedation but it failed completely. I was completely awake and aware of what was happening and I also have very severe emetophobia so you can imagine how difficult this was for me. It was painful and I gagged and retched the whole way through the procedure and was incredibly distressed and my heart rate went up to 130bpm so my mum couldn't come in and comfort me and I struggled a lot with flashbacks and anxiety attacks afterwards. I don't know whether I was immune to the sedation or they didn't put enough in but this was the result and I know in 99% of cases it goes like how you said and most people aren't aware of what's going on and don't remember it afterwards but this is my experience just to warn anyone xx
thank you for making this video, super informative and put my mind at rest about some parts of the procedure! I may need to have this done in the near future and I'm supes apprehensive about it, I have trouble with anxiety and the idea of something going down my throat isn't the best, but hearing you talk about the anaesthesia process is really great! I hope your health is getting better and thankyou again for openly talking about your experience
I got mine today. It wasn’t even bad the worst part for me was only drinking liquids and fasting after but overall it was great I didn’t feel anything and i came back home and the best part about all of this is eating lol and that the procedure is over. If you’re getting yours don’t be scared. There’s nothing to be scared about really, good luck.❤️
thank you so much for sharing this. I have anxiety and panic disorder too and I'm pretty sure I will need an endoscopy too as I'm having same stomach problems as you. I really appreciate you sharing this.
I just had one done. I also have anxiety. It went horrible. The sedation didn't work. At all. They gave me injection after injection. I was WIDE awake and remember everything... They blind folded me and stuck the tube down telling me to swallow then not to swallow once it was down. Felt like i couldn't breath and I violently gagged the entire time. Horrible. Never again.
Yea, my friend had this done, and they found he had an ulcer. Good for you that you were able to overcome your phobia, at least temporarily! I hope you can start to go out and really concentrate on overcoming this, because it leads to stagnation to let this limit your life so severely. Anyway, I'm a fan, and I hope to see you do more feminism videos, even though I'm on the opposite side, lol! I just like your videos I guess. ;) You just have a very attractive personality.
I had an endoscopy last March and prior to it I was a nervous wreck at the idea of them putting that tube down my throat into my stomach and it showed on the heart monitor during pre-op. My pulse rate was going crazy, but my gastro doctor was very kind and told me it would be all right and over before I knew it. I was given propofol in the actual surgical room and felt a wonderful sensation of warmth and then I was out and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. I did feel a strange sensation down in the lower portion of my esophagus and then found out they had taken some samples to look for a certain kind of bacteria, but after I drank a little and ate a bit that sensation went away. All in all, not a bad experience at all, but I can't imagine doing it without sedation of some kind.
I am having one done this week and I am not too nervous- just a little- and you’re right, it’s more the IDEA of it that’s scary. I am so thankful for sedatives! I could really relate to your story about anxiety/stress triggering stomach issues. This has been happening to me my entire life.
I just went thru it on Friday and your video gave me solace. I actually only remember them trying to put it down and then I dont remember anything. I am also a huge baby and got thru it. :)
Hey, so I was awake but they did sedate me with something which made me not remember it. I remember them asking me to tilt my head a certain way and they put the camera in and I gaged a little and wanted it out and thats the last thing I remember.
Thank you so much for this video! You're so adorable and delightful! I have had panic disorder most of my life. I could be your grandma. I went thru a year of breast cancer treatment and now my stomach is acting up and I have to go in for the endoscopy. I will worry so much less after watching your video! Best wishes. I hope all is going well for you now!
Thanks for video!! I am getting this in a few days ! Getting nervous now!! I was told that i will have my throat numbed and then they get on with it! And it will be about 5 minutes at the most! Your video has helped me feel a little at ease but im still nervous!! Its good to hear it doesn’t hurt at least!!
I have panic disorder too. And recently I've been feeling burning in my chest and nausea. So scared but I have to know what going on so I'm going to to ask my doctor to get this procedure done.
Ok, so I had my second endoscopy today... I'm the ying to your yang. This procedure was not easy and relaxing. I have anxiety issues and that didn't help. I had the throat spray which freezes your throat so I couldn't swallow... that wasn't great. Then when the camera was pushed into your mouth as soon as it hit my throat I was wretching. Ultimately the examination had to be done and showed no bad symptoms... but it was not a pleasant experience. I did gag multiple times throughout. I'm sorry to paint a darker picture but I think my experience and yours are at polar ends of the spectrum. It was rough
Im petrifed of getting "put under".. give me needles and a dentist anyday..ive been getting lots of reflux..chest pain and i burp alot.. hopefully its just Gerd.. im scared of the procedure and what they are gonna find 😢
I am having one of these and a Colonoscopy at the same time at the end of the month and I am so scared. Scared of being put to sleep and what will happen. Your post helps so I thank you for being so honest in it.
Thanks for sharing.....I'm going in tomorrow morning to have it done. I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety too. I really scared but I feel a bit better after watching this video. Xx
Thanks so much for this video! I too have anxiety and have to have one done, and everything you said put me at ease. There really isn't any other video on YT that is so comprehensive and for folks with anxiety. Thanks for explaining it so well!
I'm going for my second endoscopy April 17th I'm from South Africa 🇿🇦 but moved to Northern ireland with my wee family just short of 2 yrs ago ..thanks for your video it makes us all feel better about the procedure to come 😇👍
I’m going for mine this morning & to say I’m scared will be a understatement lol! I can’t stand anything in my mouth, the fear of it blocking my breathing and choking 😭 erghhh I’m dreading it so much xx
Fingers crossed for you! My experience was just fine, and it's really quite quick. I get how scary it is. I was really freaking out beforehand! But the majority of people seem to be saying theirs were fine, so I really do think yours will be the same. Make sure to tell them that you're scared beforehand. They might be able to help you more and make it easier. Best of luck, and you can do it! xxx
@@ClaudiaBoleyn Thanks for your message! I read it just before I went in! Can’t say I loved it but it deffo was not as bad as I expected, I did remember most of what happened and I was gagging a awful lot but I was sedated enough to not be bothered by what was happening even tho it was quite painful aswell but like I said I wasn’t bothered because of the sedation! I’m so glad it’s over, had so many sleepless nights over it but I would do it again without worrying if I needed too! Thanks for your video, it really did help xx
Thank you for posting your experience and for all the specific details--it was very helpful... Hopefully all goes well for me tomorrow...my anxiety gets the best of me at times.
"You say things you wouldn't normally say" There's a story there, Claudia, isn't it? (someone took a video of me on anaesthetic and it's SO funny) Anyway, I hope you're as alright as you can possibly be xxx
I’m getting on may 21st and I’m so scared lol. I recently started getting panic attacks and extreme stress. I’m curious to know if it is related. **by the way anyone who suffers from real panic attacks I feel so bad for you guys it is literally the worst feeling ever! Ughhh anyways I’m glad your results weren’t anything worrisome! God bless 💕
I'm supposed to have an endoscopy next Friday and am freaking out. They told me they're going to give me propofol so I'll "be out of it," but I'm terrified about throwing up before and/or after the procedure. I have horrible emetophobia.
Thanks for making this video, Claudia, I really appreciate it. I'm due to have the same procedure for the same reason as yourself and this has reassured me a little. I have Anxious Personality Disorder (Severe Social Phobia) and I know I'm going to be a mess on the day but I'll try to remember everything you've said in the run up to it. Keep everything crossed for me, please!!! Xxx
When about did you have this procedure done? I have an appointment tomorrow, you said you were given a mild anaesthetic through canola. NHS has crashed recently and no ones announcing it. I doubt I will be given anything. I have been waiting for a hernia operation, and they have come up with every imaginable excuse not to operate, I was due to have an operation on the 6th of Sept, 2 excuses I still haven't seen the anaesthetist yet and he has to clear me first for the operation, second most stupidest excuse I have heard, theres no guarantee that the pain will go away after the hernia repair. I already had my pre-op on the 8th of August still waiting. I had a hysteroscopy today (without any sedatives) I took my own liquid morphine in and took it before the procedure. I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. But thank you for this wonderful video. It has calmed my nerves quite a bit.
See I'm in the US...getting this procedure done soon and my doctor said I'm being put to sleep for it. Like my doctor says you are not conscious for this
I had this too. I had the throat numbing spray, it was really weird! Not very nice though.. When you can feel it scratching against your insides and gagging in front of loads of doctors ew! But yeah the spray thing is weird, like kind of feels like your throat is closing up in a way. :')
I’m having one today, I honestly am not scared about being out under but I am worried that after it I will feel bloated and like I need to throw up. (I hate throwing up to the point where I’m almost scared of it) Anyone that’s had the procedure done, did you have stomach pains, bloating, etc. after?
@@sazjh Plus there wasnt any stomach pain, bloating, or anything after it and when you get put out it just feels like you just slept, doesn't feel like anything medical.

I had one was so scared on the table was shaking the next thing I knew I was knocked out and woke up like 30 min's later and felt silly for having a panic attack on the table.
@@rukeyamitchell6777 it basically everything starts sounding slow motion and then you just cant keep your eyes open anymore and u fall asleep. its not bad at all. the worst part is the iv being put in and taken out
They booked me for an emergency one so I have no time to prepare... I was told on Thursday - It's technically Friday now and the endoscopy is tomorrow. I am panicking so hard about it; I can't calm down DX
Deep breaths my friend. You can't change it by worrying and if you remain as calm as possible and try to relax you will make it easier because you'll be less stressed when it comes to it. You have to give yourself the best chance at being calm. Honestly, it is incredibly quick. Like I said, I was asleep throughout. There was no pain whatsoever. It was the panic beforehand that was the worst part. Try to do something that you find calming. Read a book you like, watch a film you enjoy, draw, write, look up a person you admire. I'll admit I was exactly the same as you before my procedure but from experience I can tell you it will not be as bad as you think. In fact it will probably be a huge relief because you'll be able to see what's wrong! Also when you've done it you feel great. You can feel so proud of yourself! I have complete faith in you. I know you can do it. xxx
The bottom line to an endoscopy is the premedication drug. In my case this was midazolam (1v). This is given in mg, normally 2-4 mg. I had 3 mg and knew nothing of the procedure. Another time I had 2 mg and I might as well not have had it; I knew all about the procedure.....a waste of time not to mention the driver I had to have with me ; having just the spray, ( Xylocaine 40 g ), means you can drive yourself. Nevertheless, no real problems with an endoscopy; nothing to worry about!
I had this done 2 days ago with just the throat spray and i have asthma and enxiety they believe i have crohns and they put the tube down i gagged alot and was shaking it hurt very badly i was screaming in pain and they found food un digested in my system since its part of my problem so they took it out and said we haft to reschedule ive been thought operastions and stuff before but this is the worse experience of my life and i dont think i can go though it again :( whys everyone fine with this ? Im glad your expirance was ok

Hi Claudia, Happy new year 🥳 I have to have a endoscopy with propofol because normal sedation didn’t work for me. I am nervous about it because I am overweight and I am also scared that I won’t wake up after it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am having a gastroscopy (endoscopy) next tuesday 3rd August with sedation and throat spray and I am really nervous that I won't wake up from the sedation or something will go wrong. any advice would be appreciated.
I had to watch this twice, I spent the first 5 minutes checking which DVD's you have - Lots of Doctor Who, you have good taste ;-) Question, did you have to wear a hospital gown? I've got one of these in just over a week, not looking forward to it if I'm honest, going to have a quiet word and ask for the maximum legal dose of the "chilled out" drug.
I am getting an endoscopy. My doctor says its because of my diet but my mom thinks its stress and anxiety. I have anxiety all the time and sometimes I shake for no reason or maybe I am anxious. I also have paranoid schizophrenia though. That has nothing to do with it. I just hope I dont need surgery on my stomach. I am scared but I just pray.
@Put out your cigs it went so well. I got up and didnt know if they had done it or not. They were done. You dont feel a thing. I got a sore and itchy throat afterwards. I dont have any ulcers. My stomach hurts I think because I have been eating more. I was intermitten fasting without even realizing it in a way. It totally screwed up my stomach. The doctor didnt tell me about intermitten fasting ruining my stomach. I cant do it anymore. I am glad I got an endoscopy though. Thanks for asking me.

Did you throw up after because i have a fear of throwing up and i have to get one tommorow morning 😔 I'm really scared
I don't know whether I was immune to the sedation or they didn't put enough in but this was the result and I know in 99% of cases it goes like how you said and most people aren't aware of what's going on and don't remember it afterwards but this is my experience just to warn anyone xx
yourqueenandlionheart 4 wELL THANKS FOR THAT 🖕🏾
Are you a redhead by chance? MCR1 can do that. I know from experience.
I'm having the procedure tomorrow, thanks to you now I feel so much better and less stressed😊
thank you for making this video, super informative and put my mind at rest about some parts of the procedure! I may need to have this done in the near future and I'm supes apprehensive about it, I have trouble with anxiety and the idea of something going down my throat isn't the best, but hearing you talk about the anaesthesia process is really great! I hope your health is getting better and thankyou again for openly talking about your experience
Thank you so much for posting this- I’m having an endoscopy and colonoscopy today and feel so much more relaxed about it now.
Yes it's worth it. I allow fear to prevent me from doing it, and when I finally did I couldn't believe it was so easy.
Hope this is my experience got one a week from today.
I am having one done this week and I am not too nervous- just a little- and you’re right, it’s more the IDEA of it that’s scary. I am so thankful for sedatives! I could really relate to your story about anxiety/stress triggering stomach issues. This has been happening to me my entire life.
How did it go I’m having one this month I’m full of anxiety. Will the sedation make u drowsy the rest of the day ?
I just went thru it on Friday and your video gave me solace. I actually only remember them trying to put it down and then I dont remember anything. I am also a huge baby and got thru it. :)
Were you awake with sedation?
Hey, so I was awake but they did sedate me with something which made me not remember it. I remember them asking me to tilt my head a certain way and they put the camera in and I gaged a little and wanted it out and thats the last thing I remember.
Here you go you’re so adorable I just wanna had mine on Wednesday all went well it wasn’t bad at all waiting for final report
its painful?
Thank you so much for this video! You're so adorable and delightful! I have had panic disorder most of my life. I could be your grandma. I went thru a year of breast cancer treatment and now my stomach is acting up and I have to go in for the endoscopy. I will worry so much less after watching your video! Best wishes. I hope all is going well for you now!
I always advise people to ask for full general anesthetic. I freak out so bad when I'm awake, and most people I know do too.
You can have MAC (monitored anesthesia care), which uses propofol
Thanks for video!! I am getting this in a few days ! Getting nervous now!! I was told that i will have my throat numbed and then they get on with it! And it will be about 5 minutes at the most! Your video has helped me feel a little at ease but im still nervous!! Its good to hear it doesn’t hurt at least!!
Thanks for sharing, Claudia! I've always wondered what endoscopy procedures were like (since I also suffer from stomach pains).
Allotment Grow How You did it with just the spray , had the same experience , really sucked and if I think about I can still kinda feel the tube.
Allotment Grow How Well thanks for being so fucking reassuring.

I'm supposed to have an endoscopy next Friday and am freaking out. They told me they're going to give me propofol so I'll "be out of it," but I'm terrified about throwing up before and/or after the procedure. I have horrible emetophobia.
Jaclyn Smith how did it go??? I have mine but I’m so scared and they told me they will use propofol
Like my doctor says you are not conscious for this
Claudia you're wonderful for sharing your experience with us. Thanks for the love !
I had this too. I had the throat numbing spray, it was really weird! Not very nice though.. When you can feel it scratching against your insides and gagging in front of loads of doctors ew! But yeah the spray thing is weird, like kind of feels like your throat is closing up in a way. :')
Getting mine done tomorrow. Feeling better about it now. Thanks for the video.
Having one on Thursday and I'm a proper fanny, which is why I'm here, checking out this video. It's reassuring to watch. Thank you.
So kind of you to share your experience. I feel much better about it. Thank you. I feel your pain about anxiety. Hope your doing better 😍

Very brave of you to have this done and share it with us Claudia,I'm having mine in a few weeks will you come and hold my hand?.
I was put to sleep so I haven't the faintest idea of what transpired. I felt and remember absolutely nothing.
I know you can do it. xxx
I go tomorrow for an endoscopy too! Can't wait for it to be over with.
Stacey Musto how was it?
I'm due to have one next Thursday and I am petrified...Mines due because of chronic acid and my food always seems lodged in my throat
I've got mine tomorrow. I have terrible Vomitphobia so I am dreading it. Thank you for the reassurance.
Having this done soon, so thank you so much for sharing your story! 🤗
Yeah - _Colonoscopy_ under "Twilight Sedation" is kind of a different story... Not such a lack of "discomfort" IIRC!

How was it I'm nervous as hell
Hi Claudia,
Happy new year 🥳
I have to have a endoscopy with propofol because normal sedation didn’t work for me.
I am nervous about it because I am overweight and I am also scared that I won’t wake up after it. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you. A very excellent and informative video with precise details, well done. Many thanks for your feedback on what to expect during the procedure.
I have severe anxiety and depression and bipolar disorder and my endoscopy is tomorrow. I'm terrified
I am having a gastroscopy (endoscopy) next tuesday 3rd August with sedation and throat spray and I am really nervous that I won't wake up from the sedation or something will go wrong. any advice would be appreciated.
Can you talk during it or were you so chilled out you didn't try?
I had one... it was painless but ugly. I kept burping and had spit everywhere... apart from sore throat afterwards for two days it was not bad at all.
I had to watch this twice, I spent the first 5 minutes checking which DVD's you have - Lots of Doctor Who, you have good taste ;-)
Question, did you have to wear a hospital gown?
Oh man, I'm doing this in 3 days time.. I hate gagging I have emetophobia but I think I might have gastritis right now. I'm not really worried but I just hate to gag!
Did your gastritis healed?
