I recently watched all the P3 Movies, and this song and the scene it plays in was easily the most powerful moment in all of Persona. I'm tearing up just thinking about it ;)
Not to be a party popper, but the scene honestly seems way too try-hard for me. I do like it, and I like the metaphor of the light undercutting the despair, but the really hammy way everyone just overcomes all their issues at once because Makoto shines confidence through the city, just seems real dumb and when combined with this song it seems like it's trying way to hard to be the "cheesy emotional" moment. I know Persona can be pretty hammy sometimes, but that scene just seems like an example of them trying too hard to be poignant and emotional. Don't understand why people act like this scene is anything incredible, it's about as hammy and cliched as a "my friends are my power" scene could ever be.

It's like, 'emotional song + cheesy scenes about bonds + a bunch of characters crying = them forcibly jabbing your heart to get you to feel something. IMO, people saying this scene is one of the best or the most poignant in the franchise just shows that people will go for OTT cheesy fluff over subtly, which is just kinda sad to me. There's WAY more poignant and clever moments in Persona than this, especially in the first three games. I don't mean any offence though, this is just my opinion.
