Best 2022 show in my opinion
Musically, this, Crown and Coats......were THE best with Phantom having THE best closer out of ALL corps. ..and I've seen em all bout 5 times each.....closer is a BEAST...but with that being said...color guard were a hot phucking MESS...every show
And the fans agreed when they voted them the Fan Favorite!
Phantom’s crowd reaction at EVERY show was insane. I’ll remember this show long after I’ve forgotten the champion of 2022.
They had me on the edge of my seat the whole show!

I brought my girlfriend to her first DCI shows this past summer. We went to Allentown and finals. She didn't really understand most of the other DCI shows and had a hard time following the melodies mixed with visual "distractions." Haha. It was hard to explain, too. However, this specific show, her eyes lit up and she said, "This show is the best and was what I expected drum corps (she probably said band) to be like." I agreed. It just felt like drum corps to me. Especially that CLOSER! The visual performance matched the music and it wasn't just a brass or percussion lick followed by another lick like everyone else is doing. It was very musical and the visual performance with props wasn't overly distracting and kept the audience focused on the right emotion of the music--it perfectly complimented it. It was nice to see them jump a spot at finals. Congrats to the performers and staff for making a new drum corps fan and being the fan favorites!
I agree. While I enjoyed some of the shows this year, the majority of them felt like they were meant to be "hard/difficult" or "What the Judges Want to See," and it felt like they did that at the expense of the music. The music is meant to be the core part of a Marching Band/Drum Corps show, and corps such as Troopers and especially Phantom Regiment blew it out of the park this year with their music. Their shows were amazing, whereas some just didn't have the same impact. For example (I'm not attacking anybody here, I'm just giving my opinion on how some of the shows felt in terms of their music), BD's show felt like a bunch of stuff forced together, and Crusaders' show genuinely left me confused at the end of their show.
@@Wyatt_Sumner_Musician Definitely know what you mean. Troopers show was the same for me--I loved it. My son marched Cavaliers this past summer and I honestly wasn't a fan of the brass arrangement. It was just a rolodex of brass licks that sounded too much like Carolina Crown. It wasn't The Cavaliers. I'm glad they're bringing back their old brass staff and getting away from the "lick writers." The percussion staff, on the other hand, did some phenomenal stuff and it really accompanied the whole theme with different timing, meters, etc. I also agree that BD's show left me with nothing to remember. They won but I don't recall anything about it whatsoever other than too many visual things going on at once. Phantom and the Troopers let you focus on what was the focal point of their show. Anwyay - not trying to rip on the activity and the progression of it. I love it all but this year in particular was too much.
2022 muncie was the first ever dci comp i went to and this was by far my absolute favorite show. Phantom has been my favorite group since that night
This was the purest DCI show of the year. So nice to hear no crazy electronic sounds
Oh there were plenty of crazy electronic sound. Mostly atmospheric. Contras were reinforced, but in a tasteful way. Only a couple blatant uses of BWAH bass. And they had one crazy effect near the end of the opener that sounded like a 16 drum bassdrum line run, which was so cool I forgive it.
Huh?? You can literally see the mics that are on the soloists. Not to mention the entire tuba line is mic'd up and being pumped through the speakers
I am going to sound really mushy here...I was at Allentown sitting on the 50 about midway up. At 9:56 when PR pushed the Chevron with that massive low brass sound...I said this is the moment the pandemic is over for me. It just seemed in that moment the world was just a little bit back to normal. (I know there are still effects...just saying so nice to have something from pre-pandemic now as a marker.) Thank you PR.
I haven't seen very many shows live, but this one destroyed my eardrums more than any other. It will always have a special place in my heart!
crown is as ear drum destroying as it gets, but this show is really good, and there's a reason they're called god's hornline, you can't really expect regiment to keep up, srsly good show... reminds me of old school phantom
Heard all top 12 live at finals. I thought that the loudest was blue devils, then coats, then phantom and some parts of boston. Blue devils turned up their electronics and mics up to the max for encore run. Absolutely the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life other than a top thrill dragster.
Literally no one had as full/bright/loud a show as Phantom at finals. It wasn't even close, to my ear. Favorite show was Bloo, but ever since hearing Phantom live at finals, I've fallen in love with their music!
They did the thing where sopranos arrive at an impact first and it make your eyes water like opening an oven door.
Where part of the tone is the audible shredding of the collective lips.
Then the rest of the ensemble arrives like a gut punch, dropping sonic bricks. Classic drum corps. Should be "Compulsory" in all shows, like Figure Skating rules.
Gives me chills every time I watch this show. Thank you Regiment for continuing to perform amazing shows, and keeping the DCI tradition alive. Score doesn’t matter with this show, everyone knows it was amazing!
No gimmicks, electronics - just pure power. Phantom always delivers. Miss the helmets though.
This show has single-handedly convinced me that I absolutely have to audition for you guys.

@@Llamal0rd5unfortunately I wasn’t even able to audition due to financial reasons. I did however get the chance to see a show in person for the first time in Atlanta. I’ve spent the last year preparing for auditions and I’m finally taking that step this November!

This right here is why i’ve always wanted to join Phantom Regiment more than any other Drum Corp, absolutely stunning, they’re always a corp to give what i consider a true performance, you can see it with the shots at the end, these shows shouldn’t just be physically draining but also emotionally draining, that’s what it takes to evoke the emotion and power that Phantom Regiment’s shows always have without fail. I really hope i’m able to join in on at least one of their incredible performances, they’re always a crisp refresher from all of the super crazy electronics in other drum corps and they just give all they have themselves as musicians rather than hide behind the electronic elements. I hope Phantom Regiment never changes.
You should totally try out if you can! It is a lot less complicated than you might think and as long as staff can see that you are applying yourself and improving getting a contract is totally attainable!
Textbook definition of an emotional performance. So glad I got to see this show mature over the summer.
This show contained the best overall GE moment of any show this year hands down. The fact that none of the GE scorecards reflect that is ridiculous, dci judging is a racket.
I thought what you guys did with Harmonic Journey in terms of audio/video releases was a special one-off. But this is a very nice surprise.
I absolutely love this show from the very first time I heard and watched it. This show is, in my opinion, a great combination of old and new. It's a joy to watch this right now

Getting some serious mid 2000's to 2010's vibes. Almost makes me want to actually audition as a rook-out. Too bad world class tour fees have become so expensive...

Audition! DCI and the corps have some scholarships, and you would be surprised how much friends, family and people who marched will help. It could be one of the best experiences of your life
Go for it. There are many scholarship opportunities. The experience changed my life 32 years ago.

This show has everything that has made Phantom my favorite corps since I learned about DCI back in the 90s. The music selections are so good and the brassline sounds 10 feet tall.
The added bonus of choosing amazing classical music is that public domain
allows us to enjoy this fantastic sounding/looking recording instead of bad bootleg phone videos like some of the other top corps.
This show had such a magic to only get 8th place, fs one of my faves of the year!

Phantom was off the rails for several years prior to COVID. They brought back Harmonic Journey in 2021 and literally everyone said, "Yes! More of that!" and so in 2022, they did more of that and it was one of the fan favorites of the year. Hopefully they learned their lesson and continue on that path.
I would attribute a decent chunk of that to JD Shaw coming back to PR as their brass arranger
Such a fantastic aggressive, powerful, musical, emotional show, with the best drill on the field this year. Hurculean effort to clean that by Finals and deliver such an emotional, joyous powerhouse. So great to see JD Shaw bringing Phantom forward on the path to recapturing what made them so special from 2003-2012. Bravo
One of the best ovations for this corps at Allentown, great performance!
Couldn't be there in person... life, money, health, etc. But this was my first season seeing Phantom in real time (thanks Flo!) since they brought Juliet to Sal Lake City in 2011. And I am just so choked up every time by the Chevron push and that final 30 seconds. TRIUMPHANT to say the least! Mahler would definitely approve of THAT performance of #5!
Phantom Regiment will always be #1 in my book. Never stop telling stories Regiment. Never.

Used to watch the regiment perform every summer, starting in what must have been the late nineties or early 2000’s when they practiced in the high school field behind my house.
I hope more corps get on the trend of releasing an official video each season, in the mean time I'll just be glad that my favorite one does!
got to see this show live in olathe KS in july. this ensemble and this show I will always remember, not only because it's the first show i've seen live, but DAMN is this whole show just awesome!

I matched with guardsmen 75 and 76. I always have loved phantom! DCI shows now great, but soooo many props. Phantom used the props in a good way. Love that they retain much of their decades long style. Check out 70's required USA flag presentations by phantom. My favorite corps. Phan forever!
Congrats on the 8th place finish! I'm so excited to see you guys back in Nashville/Murfreesboro next year! Haven't seen you guys in person since 2017. I can't wait!

@1:36 Most Effective hit in DCI that year. You could pick at it technically, sure. That's why I didn't say "Best". Due to low scores, PR tended to go on early so when they turned around it was always the first REAL hit of the night.

I feel like this deserves either 1st or 2nd with bluecoats show slightly above or below I feel like those two shows stood out way more than blue devils show this year
I didn't watch the show this late in the season. They took sections out. Its just mellos and baris here, just sopranos there, things like that. In an effort to increase exposure and clarity to pick up some points i guess.
I've always loved their brass ! They appear to have a smaller band this season, but it doesn't make any difference to me! My youngest sister played the marching French Horn in her 3 years at James Martin High School in Arlington, Texas! Go on UA-cam for 1988-1990. They performed Channel 1 Suite when she was a Sophomore. The Cowboys was her 2nd year; she was in the duet! The final year I can't remember the name of the program.
Phantom always has been a bit smaller, but they hit harder than a lot of bigger corps. Another reason I’ve always loved them. They’re just badass.
