Just a delight. And when I hear the orchestra, I always tell myself to dig out some Gerald Wilson and a Bordeaux. And never do, that would be too nice.

Can you upload interview clips of the late, great Robert Shaw. He was such an interesting and engaging guest appearing on the show at least 5 times. Please can you show Shaw's appearance in this episode: Woody Allen/Robert Shaw/Beverly Sills/Jacqueline Wexler (29 Dec. 1969) Thanks in advance.
According to director Richard Fleischer's memoir, Douglas could never get "comfortable" with a set-up unless the camera was pointing at him and the other actors had their backs to the shot.
Kirk was 56 years young when this interview was aired, so he lied about is age by saying he was 53! But i guess if he had said he was 43 i believed in him.
i have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Art Carney or Jackie Gleason? How about any Honeymooners actors that were a part of the main cast?
He was born in December 1916, so he lied when he said he was 53. Why he lied, I don’t know, cause at 56 years old based on this 1973 interview he looks fantastic.
0:57 - listen to how the audience laughs at Douglas’ “literal” joke. Today, no one would bat an eye at Cavett’s usage. This country only gets stupider.
what is the point in lying about ones age when everyone knows it?....and...yes kirk cheated on his wife//just like all the rest....he lived a long time....i have no idea..if he was suffering any....but...i think he was a good actor..not a great one..but he had a few roles..lust for life...... paths of glory...where he was very good
I use to love watching the old Dick Cavett shows. Always good entertainment
The most real and entertaining talk show host of all time!
But Ellen? She Dances...no good? Lol
Mindsaw, DC, regardless of dance prowess, is still the BEST interviewer. Period.
@@DougPalumbo I agree brother!
Graham Norton is great now
Cavett gets the job done, but Conan is the kindest and funniest host ever.
Be at peace dear Kirk

I love old television shows
Band sounds great!
real instruments AND talent!
I’m still waiting for someone to tell me the name of that great tune Rosengarden and the band used to play at the end of the show.
Dear Dick Cavett show,
Can you upload interview clips of the late, great Robert Shaw. He was such an interesting and engaging guest appearing on the show at least 5 times.

Woody Allen/Robert Shaw/Beverly Sills/Jacqueline Wexler (29 Dec. 1969)

For any other curious folks, Kirk was born in on 12/9/1916 which made him 56 almost 57 here. He really didn't know how old he was :D
The best Cavett interviews are with Jimmy Hoffa and Mort Sahl (and still on YT)

To live 103 you need 6 sisters, three older than you and three younger than you. ;-)
Kirk really looks great here,
The real "Spartacus"
According to director Richard Fleischer's memoir, Douglas could never get "comfortable" with a set-up unless the camera was pointing at him and the other actors had their backs to the shot.

Lying is as natural to his tribe as saying the kole nidre.
He did suggest he wouldn't give his real age! Dick did ask 'in the neighbourhood of'.
he is one of the most vain men i have ever seen....he would make Bert Lancaster blush

Dick Cavett makes Kirk look about 6ft 4 here
The one and only.....
He was born in December 1916, so he lied when he said he was 53. Why he lied, I don’t know, cause at 56 years old based on this 1973 interview he looks fantastic.
They must have taken interview earlier and aired it later
He looks 56.
Calvert really acted the fool in this segment. Maybe he was awed by Douglas.
Kirk Douglas was not the tallest guy yet makes Cavett look like a Mickey Mouseketeer in a suit.
0:57 - listen to how the audience laughs at Douglas’ “literal” joke. Today, no one would bat an eye at Cavett’s usage.
This country only gets stupider.
Dick Cavett not knowing Michael Douglas is Kirk's son...even when he's starring in Streets; well informed for a talk show host isn't he.
He's 57 here if it's 1973.
He was born in 1916, this was 1973, so he lied, he was 57 not 53
Has your nose been broken recently?
Hey genius, there’s only one s in Douglas.
And now late night talk shows are political trash.
Thanks Democrats! :)
You're welcome. And Kirk was a lifelong Democrat, even if he did go to Nixon's White House. That was back in more bipartisan days. Just a memory now..
Nixon for President ✌
"I Am Not A Crook!" ✌🏻✌🏻

Spartacus, the Vikings etc. he made more than just a few good movies.
coronaflo Exactly! Also, he was good in a ‘Town without Pity’
Why do people who have done nothing trying and belittle those who have made some of the biggest movies?
