    Rumplestiltskin has one of the best backstories in TV I've ever seen. Everything new we learn about his past just fits so perfectly with what we've learned about him and makes him much deeper and even more complex a character.

    Rumple sacrificed not only his leg but also his honor so that his son wouldn't grow up without father. That really takes some courage. And he was also honest with his wife, by admitting that he broke his leg himself, and not trying to blame someone else, even though she was so pissed off at him. So, where is the coward? I can't see any...

  • @ABlueMelody

    The word "coward" is his Achilles heel. If it weren't for that word, he would not have been "The Dark One". If people had not dubbed him a coward, he would not have made the choices he had made. When people tell you something enough, you may start believing it. Bravery and cowardice are extremely opinionated words.

    He was AFRAID FOR HIS SON. Hell, if I learned that my son may grow up without me, I'd smash my leg too if that would mean he'd have me. And she did seem magical(hell she had eyes on her palms) so that would be a clue she's an actual seer. And there was a good chance he'd die. And Bae was actually born. He had every reason to do this. It isn't cowardice, more like intelligence.

    Deserting a battle because a seer tells you that you might probably be killed by ogres is about as cowardly as wearing a heavy coat or even not going outside when the forecast calls for a blizzard. In other words, not cowardly at all. Honestly, there is no logical victory possible when using swords and catapults against enemies 10x your size. If anything, choosing to go into battle is not bravery but sheer stupidity. Now, if you have Gatling ballistas or Juggernauts, that would be different.

    • @kyleenglot9184
      @kyleenglot9184 4 роки тому

      It is still cowardly. Even if everyone decided not to fight the ogres then what would happen? The Ogres would still take over their lands and kill it's people regardless if they fight or not. Can you imagine if all the ally soldiers retreated and turned their backs in the great world wars? Hitler was still planning to conquer Europe and he had not intention of stopping. If Rumple is not cowardly then he is certainly selfish as he found a way out of war while probably thousands of others died in place of him.

    And Milah is very unfair for treating him that way, the guy SMASHED HIS OWN LEG so his son could grow up with a father. He did what every good father would've done. He chose his son above all else, including his honor.
    Milah should be proud of him for sacrificing as much as he did so his son could have a father.

    • @kyleenglot9184
      @kyleenglot9184 4 роки тому +1

      Could you imagine what would have happened if everyone in the great world wars decided not to fight against the Germans who were trying to take over Europe and eventually the world? Sure I've heard of many soldiers injuring themselves to prevent going to war. It's the soldiers who fought with honour who get praised and maintain a legacy for their heroic deeds. Sure Rumple wanted to be with his family which is good on an individual level, but in times of war it's looked down on, considering millions of other men put their lives on the line to protect their families from the Ogre wars while a man took the cowardly way out in spite do the millions of people who sacrificed. So yes his community would forever brand him a traitor and coward and he would walk with that stigma for life, and his wife Milah would be subjected to this as well.

    • @TapuC0C
      @TapuC0C Рік тому +3

      @@kyleenglot9184 But were the ogres really threatening his community? Or was the duke just fighting them for some other purpose? We never see any evidence of ogre attack in the village and the people int he village seem safe throughout the show. Did the ogres attack one of the duke's allies that he is in a military treaty with? Did the duke attack the ogres first to get more land or resources? That is an interesting question. They never really get into that. Whether not it was a just war or not, it seems that the people dying in it are only peasants, not people from all tiers of society.

    The seer didn't manipulate him, it was fate. You might not even imagine this, but without to seer herself, there wouldn't really be a show.
    Rumple had to do this to take care of his son, to become the dark one, to train Regina in to becoming The Evil Queen who broke the land. Without him and convincing Regina to unleash the curse, Storybrooke and many things would not have happened. If Rumple hadn't made Cora corrupted, Gina wouldn't have a secret love with Daniel and saved Snow. Snow would die.

    Being his "undoing" doesn't necessarily mean Henry could be lead to his death. That phrase has several meanings, including Henry could break Rumple's curse of being the dark one (remember true love breaks any curse) or Henry could be Rumple's reason for giving up magic.

He could still have all his knowledge of magic, even without the ability to use it the same way. It would have been good for the character.

    Would Rumple have really died on the battlefield? What the seer said was kind of cryptic. She did not say rumple was going to die, she just said his actions on the battlefield would leave his son fatherless. Really that could have gone both ways, where rumple dies while fighting or what really happened, injuring himself to be with his family but then continuously be shunned by those he loves. Also Rumple could have stayed on the battlefield and came home a hero (although there would have been no Once Upon a Time if that Happened).
