    Ya know a lot of people are "glad that rumple finally got what he deserved" but at the same time, I actually felt bad for Rumple...cuz let's face it, Rumple is an addict...and this is what addictive behavior does, it destroys families.. Granted, Rumple brought it upon himself but it's an addict's mentality... i've witnessed it, it's terrible. they'll do anything to score their next fix.

      I like how you described Rumple's behavior because it was hard for me to understand why he is doing all of this considering everything that has happened in the past with his son, thinking Belle is dead, dying, and watching Neal die. I don't think there's a rehab for what Rumple's addicted to.

      Not just that, but i'd even say that he's behaviour is understandable, as well. Between watching his son die, to being forced into situations that he didn't want to be in, by the Wicked Witch, i certainly don't blame him for wanting to get rid of the dagger.

    I like the order in which Rumple tries to beg Belle to stop:
    "I won't be able to come back!" - Arguably trying to appeal to Belle by having her picture a life without him. He still assumes he can use her love for him to get her to change her decision, while trying to appear vulnerable in the process.
    "I don't want to lose you!" - If he can't get her to change her mind using her love, then he'll use his own love. Still trying to appeal to Belle by showcasing how much he seems to love her, by telling her that he doesn't want to lose her.
    "I'm afraid!" - Last resort, last ditch effort, and the true coward emerges. No longer trying to appeal to Belle with love or romance, he reveals the deepest and darkest reason for everything he does; he's afraid. He has no more walls to hide behind, and he can do nothing but reveal himself in front of Belle and show him who he truly is.

    The most heart-wrenching thing in this scene for me isn't anything they say... It's at 2:46 when Belle turns away. She is actively forcing Rumple to leave, but still, she literally _can't bear to watch_ as he leaves. She just can't bear to look as he steps out of the border, never to return to her again. The entire scene is amazing but this one detail makes it unforgettable for me. Such a brilliant, brilliant piece of acting.

    I have nothing but respect for Belle and the decision she made. It takes a lot of strength to end a toxic relationship.

    • @wanderingbelle7
      @wanderingbelle7 3 роки тому +48

      Yes!! I love Rumple and Belle together in theory when he’s holding his shit together for her, but eventually a toxic relationship is a toxic relationship and has to end. I’m always conflicted about this relationship because I instinctively want them to work it out and be together cuz-let’s face it-it’s a sweet story and I’m a hopeless romantic. But underneath the warm fuzzy factor, he uses her and manipulates her and lies to her and puts her in danger, and, as she said, he would never truly give up power for her. That’s a toxic relationship, and there’s no happy ending for a toxic relationship that involves enabling and addict or taking abuse. She did the right thing. I haven’t actually watched past this episode yet so idk, but I think if they do get back together it can only work if Rumple changes on his own. So far she’s been trying to CHANGE HIM, what needs to happen is he needs to change HIMSELF. “Love” is never a good reason to let yourself get stuck in a toxic relationship. Kudos to Belle here for doing what she needed to do and being strong enough to take care of herself.

    This is a key moment that I think has really shown the change in Rumple since the beginning of the series. He really did a lot of horrible things in the first half of this season for no good reason. The more I see, the more I connect the pieces and realize just how badly season 3 screwed with his head. Yes, Rumple was always a coward and yes, he always wanted power. But there was a time when he truly was prepared to give up his power for his son, and there was a time when true love's kiss from Belle would have been enough, if he'd just believed. Back in season 2, Rumple told Regina to cut her losses and forget about Revenge, because she couldn't have everything. In this season, he made the exact same mistake that he warned her against, trying to have everything. And it became his undoing.
    The guy's an addict, and now that he doesn't have his son driving him forward, he's more screwed up than ever. It's such a tragedy.

    • @brennicolas3093
      @brennicolas3093 6 років тому +29

      Of course season 3 screwed with his head, he killed himself and his father, then he was brought back only to watch him son die, and Zelena controlled him for so long, after Bae died it’s no surprise Rumple went full on villain in season 4, reuniting with Bae was his entire motivation for everything up until now. It’s sad because now he’s just trying to reunite with Belle (in season 7)

      It boils down to what his mother did to him, by cutting his fate she basically took away any courage he had plus anytime he did something good she probably made so it was only temporary so he would revert back so he couldn’t be the “savior” he was supposed to be. She basically enabled his drive for power but he he realized she was the source of his pain and suffering and tried to hurt Belle and his family he finally had enough and got the courage she stole back and finished her off

  • @АнастасияХарламова-т9е

    For all that I’m an enthusiastic shipper of these two and I cried at this scene, I think it was necessary. I understand that Zelena’s control and Bae’s death made him go crazy, but throughout season 4A Rumple was treating Belle more like a plushie than like a person. I started rooting for her to show him the door (well, the town line) back in season three when he revealed he gave her the fake dagger. Considering that she was the one to trust him absolutely despite everything she knew about him, his behavior to her was horrible. She did the right thing here, and the scene is acted just brilliantly: one of the most painful and greatest ones in the series.

    Uh, yeah, Belle. The man who KILLED Peter Pan (his own FATHER!) to save the entire town from being enslaved? The hero who sacrificed himself? Oh yeah...he never changed in his lifetime...
    No seriously, coming back from the dead and being a slave to the Wicked Witch made him revert back. He was on the path to ultimate redemption and then...Neal had to die :( And everything just went to chaos...)
    Heartbreaking scene :( I'll never get over this. I'm not pissed at Belle, but damn...I don't blame Rumple. He hasn't been able to fight that addiction to magic for centuries...such a complex situation...I don't know who I'd side with, but my heart goes out to both of them here...

    I've heard that love is blind as Belle confessed that she lost her way when she was with him. I think that is how couples become co-dependent on each other and why it gets really ugly at times. I agree with Belle when she said that he never changed and power has always been his true love. She wanted to see the man behind the beast, but Rumple's demons always overpowered him. He wanted to change for his son and Belle, to make them happy, but "The Dark One" always pulled him back into the darkness. Belle tried to make him happy to the point she lost her identity and did not know who she was anymore. True love is always unconditional and it always starts with you first. Elsa even mentioned that Anna's love for her wasn't enough, she had to discover her own love for herself. Rumple still clings to his fear of becoming weak and vulnerable, so he chose power over love. You can't have fear and love at the same time, you have to give up one for the other. Because of his lust for power and his fear of losing it, he lost the love of his life! Magic always comes with a price and, he, of all people should know that!

    I felt so bad for Rumple in this scene. Don't get me wrong, he deserved it for all he's done, but it still sad to see. Rumple has always been a scared, desperate man attempting to cover up his insecurities with power. He's like a drug or alcohol addict that uses the substance to numb their pain, but causing nothing but harm to those who love them and are trying to help them

      This is exactly what I was thinking. This had to happen. Belle needed a chance to show that she is capable of standing up to Rumple, and capable of doing it all the way. Belle needed to show that she wasn't just going to keep dangling off Rumple's arm and turn the other way while he's murdering people and ripping out hearts. She needed to do this to shake off any doubt that she's not just a victim of Stockholm syndrome.

    I don’t know why people hate Rumple. I know he’s not the most honourable character on the show but he’s also not the worst. He has a bad habit of self preservation and being the dark one doesn’t help, but I always saw something in him beyond all of that, something, somewhat... benevolent. Robert did an excellent job at playing him.

  • @heatwave603
    @heatwave603 10 років тому +136

    Belle was't right about the Gauntlet though. Rumple said someone's greatest weakness was USUALLY their true love, not always. In the case of a dagger with all powerful control over him and the only thing that can harm him it trumps Belle as a weakness. They both can control him in different ways, but only the dagger could harm him. So even if he loved her more than power, the gauntlet would still show the dagger as his greatest weakness because it is the only thing that could truly hurt him physically.
    I should also note that Rumple did commit suicide to save the town without any expectation of being revived, so to say he's always been a beast is pretty untrue. His son dying affected him and he was probably just willing to do anything to protect the rest of his family from dying as well. His methods were totally wrong, but grief is seldom rational.

    • @hbgguled2495
      @hbgguled2495 10 років тому +14

      I couldn't agree more but the reason's she's hurt is that he loved power more than he loved her. Now that's not true he wanted both. Hook himself said you have girl in there that loves you. He then replied with I can and I will have both whats wrong with that nothing!

    • @Bannar
      @Bannar 10 років тому +10

      Guled Hero The thing is, if he truly loved Belle, he wouldn't feel he NEEDED power in addition to her. Hook asked the question because Hook was willing to give up trying to kill this person out of revenge in exchange for finding love again - having Emma's love is enough for him, and love has always been enough for him. Rumple's not like that: he feels a need for power, control, and dominance at all times, and to him, Belle is in the same class as his power is - a commodity for his pleasure.

    • @hbgguled2495
      @hbgguled2495 10 років тому

      Bannar He's proven that wrong when he killed pan to save them. Also yeah sure love wasn't enough for him but thats because he wanted both his powers and her love. What evil could he have done then huh? Other than killing hook I can't see it.

    • @Bannar
      @Bannar 10 років тому +13

      His sacrifice to kill Pan was reversed though, and so was his character growth. And yes, he wanted BOTh. He is incapable of choosing between one or the other, and that's his problem. In this show, love is the greatest power of all, but Rumple just wants it in addition to the dark power he covets. And if he went out into the world with his power, he would have bullied, dominated, and manipulated others with it as he saw fit.

      Yes, it's mind-blowing how a character can be both evil AND sympathetic. I think that's extremely difficult to pull off. I've always thought that Carlyle deserved Emmy consideration for this show, however looked down upon it might be by the voters. Robert Carlyle ALWAYS delivers!

    Hardest scene to watch throughout the entire series so far. My heart just broke and died! T_T
    But I am praying for hope, that the writers will somehow fix them! It will be the ultimate sacrifice from Rumple, giving up the power to be with Belle. I think that will be the only way!

    • @Melstrife
      @Melstrife 10 років тому +7

      *****
      I don't think that is true. Rumple is fun either way for me. I think him twisting things around is what he will do. But it will be neither good or evil. It will be the happy medium that describes Rumple perfectly! He doesn't have to be 100% good to make things work. Everyone has darkness them, it is how far it goes becomes the problem. But my thing, I was not seeing too much evil during this time except with trying to get Emma. But that's it.

    • @Mazzystar0
      @Mazzystar0 10 років тому +7

      I don't think Rumple is going to get back with Belle. He is basically doing the same mistake he did with Neal. He loved power more than his loved ones. After dying and losing his son, you would think Rumple learned what is truly important. If he just hid the dagger like he used to do then he wouldn't be in this mess. But, yes, I am going to miss Belle and Rumple as a couple.

      I am sadly a sap. I will not give up on them! Even if it may be hopeless. I will forever hope for Rumbelle happy ending! Also, you know with the 3 Queens they more likely go after Belle in the future eps. Rumple will not let them hurt her. He does love her. Even Eddy and Adam have said that multiple times. Rumple and Belle's love is True Love. But like you said, he keeps making mistakes. It will be the ultimate sacrifice on his part, him really losing his powers before Belle and him can fix what is broken.

    • @cm_0011
      @cm_0011 10 років тому +7

      Mazzystar0 I don;t think they will be apart forever. True love is always fought for. I think it's just going to take Rumple turning hell over to get her back. He did change once - i think with enough suffering, he can do it again.
      ***** Melstrife I kind of see what Robert Carlyle is saying. One of the main bases of this show is his struggle, is his complicatedness. I don't know if I'd want him to lose his powers until like, the end of the whole show. But I think he has to make some kind of great sacrifice that is just as big. Maybe his dark magic will turn to light magic? Maybe he'll change as Regina did? it's just going to take a hell of a lot longer for Rumple to ever prove himself. I kind of still want Rumple to have magic though :3 maybe not power....magic without power.....although he did say "magic is power". We will have to see.

Earth is, after all, known as the land without magic and the dagger's hold over the Dark One is magical in nature. Once Rumple was in our world, he would no longer have been compelled to follow the orders of whoever wielded the dagger, allowing him to simply come back in once he figured out how. If the Glove leads you to someone's weakness, how would it lead to the thing The Dark One loves most? The Dark One can _only_ be harmed by the dagger. It is his only weakness. What a useless object that glove would be if it lead someone to, say, Belle, when the person using the Glove is looking for The Dark One's weakness.
    Scenario 1: Somebody kidnaps or attacks Belle in order to get to The Dark One. Said person then gets utterly destroyed by The Dark One, who is in complete control of his near limitless power.
    Scenario 2: Somebody gets hold of The Dark One's dagger, then uses it to kill or control The Dark One.
    The Dagger is clearly his weakness, regardless of his love of power or Belle.

    He finally admits that he was afraid. It was his fear that lead him to become the dark one.. and he has used that fear ever since as a crutch.
    He has a real crutch(a cane) in the real world, and has magic as a crutch in Storybrooke. He's scared to be powerless and be treated the way he was before he was The Dark One.
    He's lost a lot and it really messed with him to be the Wicked Witch's puppet. I really don't blame him. He wanted to be free from the dagger so that no one could control him like that again.
    Also, Rumple told Belle that the gauntlet leads you to the person's weakness. He told her that this is most often the thing they love most. In Rumple's case, the dagger is his weakness because once you have it, you control him.

    Yeah, Belle, let's ignore the fact the whole gauntlet thing occurred decades and decades ago, ignore the fact that he had yet to acknowledge/admit/realize his feelings for you and hence had not changed yet. *Rubs temples*.
    Also, Rumple didn't say; "to someone's weakness - the thing they loved the most", he _said_ that "it leads the bearer to someone's greatest weakness, _which more often than not_ is the thing they loved most". Who is the one person Rumple would drop everything to protect? Belle. Would he ever willingly do anything to hurt her, (physically attack her, I mean?) - well, no. But if someone had the Dagger and pointed to those of whom Rumple were fond in turn - Belle, Baelfire, Henry, etc, and told him to kill them, he would've have had any choice. He's bound to it. _Of course_ the Dagger's his greatest weakness, you half-wit.

    This is a great ending for Rumple. If only he would've stayed gone. I was so proud of Belle in that moment because she showed real strength. She didn't allow Rumple's pleas to sway her from doing what was right for her and the rest of the town. Rumple is incapable of putting the people he loves first. He told Hook if it came down to choosing between him and someone else he would choose himself. He craves power because deep down he is a coward and his power makes him feel strong. In the end the only thing he will have left is his power because he doesn't know how to live without it. Kudos to Belle for finally seeing the beast.

    One side of me is in shock cuz damn belle. She actually did that. Savage, I lover her, he got his comeuppance alright. But the other side loves Rumple & it breaks my heart to see him so broken by his own mistakes.
    This was such a brave thing to do bc Belle loves him, but this is what addiction does. She had to push him away, & he did deserve it. He lied to her & did evil things behind her back.
    He loves her for seeing good in him, but he underestimated her ability to see the bad too. This is such a powerful scene bc for someone with so much power, he was very powerless. And we know he doesn't need magic to be powerful. His words were not enough this time.
    Also can i point out the parallels of losing Baelfire & loosing Belle bc he chose power over them. Both times he expressed regret too little too late & was left on his knees crying.

    If anyone asked me, "show me a scene with the biggest act of bravery" in this show about constant acts of heroism, I'd show them this scene. Forget swords and magic; having the strength and courage to say to someone you love, who you once thought you couldn't live without, "No. You must leave. I deserve better than this." is the biggest act of courage there is. I literally cheered when this scene first aired. Everything she said was 100% true: he hadn't changed. And he wasn't going to unless he did the work on himself. I will also never be not be angry that they undid this incredible act of heroism so quickly.

Honestly hate how the writers made her a strung along type character, whose only purpose was to be Rumple's love interest. Every time I watch that scene I always feel sad for Rumple and Bell. It is true that he loves her, yet, at the same time, he can't give up that which matters just as much to him if not more. I truly wonder if he would, given the chance, give up his power for her. Yet, it was worse for Bell. She dedicated all that time to him only to realize that his heart was divided between his obsession for power and his fleeting love for her. The lesson I believe is here applies to everyone, Let not ones heart be divided nor seek after things which draw one away from who truly matters in the deepest levels of the heart. If one does so, they could find themselves losing more than just their stature. Be strong, loyal, and above all, pity all those who live without love. For true love never dies when two make that covenant from the heart regardless of the perils in life which they face as one. True Love will join them together and give them the means to endure it as one forevermore.

He may have turned evil for magic but who wouldn't? His story is painful and sad. Al he wanted was to protect the people he loved, and when he got the power he wanted, more people ran away from him. Rumple never got what he wanted, with or without power because the surrounding characters are too selfish to look at his point of view for once. He isn't evil, his world is.

    He denies it in himself. He wants to have power and he wants Belle. I really don't think belle is any less than the power. But sometimes he has lapses where he turns to Power rather than Belle. These are one of those moments. Now it's going to be a regret. It was his fault and Belle is being the hero by taking down a villain. She is reluctant to do so but she feels that she needs to put him in his place. Where he belongs. What really made me think that Rumple deserved this is that he never said Sorry. He just pleaded that she wouldn't do this. A Sorry may have sufficed at least... Idk.

    He had it coming
    He had it coming
    He only had himself to blame
    If you'd have been there
    If you'd have seen it
    I wonder: would you have done the same?

    I think the problem with Rumple is not that he wants the power it's that he lied to Belle. I get what he was trying to do with the hat. By removing himself from the dagger he will no longer be forced to do things he doesn't want to do like with Zelina. He should have just talked to Belle about his fears rather than give her a fake dagger.
