    What do you think about the X-pro1, is it still worth shooting?

    • @AlexJacksonSmith

      It is a great camera. On the speed issue have you applied the firmware updates for the camera and the lenses??? This does make a difference and you did not mention it.
      Also you may want to try the Nikor AIS lenses with an adapter. This can give some great results. I use them on the Xpro1, XE1 and Nikon D610.
      I have a few vids myself on these things.

      Dope video man, thanks for sharing ! I primarily shoot my X-Pro 1 in black & white only. I just feel like there is something special going on in there, a certain soul / feel to the images in B&W. I happened to really like your ASTIA sooc images though, I'm gonna try and shoot some on mine. If you ever get a chance, hit my page and under the CAMERA BASED playlist, you can see the recent X-Pro 1 video I did w/ images.

    I've been a working photographer for 51 years. I bought my X-Pro1 new. The first photo I shot with it using a Leica 35mm Summilux (Glow Lens) absolutely floored me. It stomped image quality of my Leica M8. Fuji color science is the best in the business. Recently I bought the TTArtisan 27mm AF lens for run and gun use on the X-Pro1. Most of my work is manual focus but the AF lens is perfect for discreet captures and the quality of the images is fantastic for the price. I have much newer cameras but the X-Pro1 is more than viable after more than a decade on.

    • @alexbemanian

      Thanks for the feedback. It's really interesting to hear your take on the x pro 1 vs the M8 image quality, it's actually very reassuring! Before I purchased the x-pro, I was on a mission to buy the Leica M8 but kept missing out on the opportunity to get one. I have always wondered how they would compare as far as image quality & colors, especially with the M8's CCD sensor. I will be reviewing that same 27mm AF lens with the x-pro relatively soon, glad to hear your having great results with it. I'm the same way this the x-pro, its more than enough all these years later.

      @@paulanderson24 I'm glad you are enjoying your M8. I started shooting with Leica in 1968. I've had my current M3 for 40 years. When the M8 was introduced I was interested. My wife and I were in Los Angeles and I stopped by Samys Camera to see it first hand. It felt like a Leica, but the problem is I have a dual range Summicron that is incompatible. My wife was actually encouraging me to buy it. I could easily afford it, but I couldn't justify it, so I passed. I actually went back years later and looked at the M10. I still coudn't justify the price of the camera and the lenses I would need (I just have the 35/50/90 Summicrons).
      I'm glad a waited for Fuji. I think Fuji's X-Pro and even X-E line is what a digital Leica should be, at a much more reasonable price. Though it's crop sensor, I still regularly shoot with my Summicrons with my Fuji cameras. I was a full time professional for many years, like Hiram. I changed careers before digital. I've had photos taken with my M3 published internationally. Still, the work I'm doing with my Fuji is as good as anything I did with my Leica cameras.

    The X-E1 has the same sensor, but it's cheaper and smaller. I use it with Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 and it’s an awesome manual experience. X-E1's X-Trans I Provia has a unique look with lifted shadows, and BW is especially good. The only thing I'm missing is a faster shutter speed and electronic shutter to shoot wide open during the day. Another great kit I have is the X-M1 and XF35mm f/1.4 - same sensor, feels less solid and without EVF, but more compact and lightweight, and with a rotating screen.

    • @alexbemanian
      @alexbemanian  11 місяців тому +1

      Before i purchased the x-pro I was highly considering the X-E1 because it did have the same sensor, but i ended up going with the x pro because of the viewfinder. I'm sure with that nokton 35mm 1.2 its an awesome pair! the x-m1 looks like a great camera as well and you can find them for great prices. if i had the funds i would own all three, thanks for the feedback.

      I would love to try the x pro 3 at some point. Wow, you got lucky with your x-pro1 repair. I reached out to Fujifilm about my camera issue and they told me they don't service the x-pro1 anymore. Maybe it was because my camera needed some extra parts they don't source anymore.

  • @victorcarmelo8606
    @victorcarmelo8606 11 місяців тому +2

    Surely the age of the camera at present time is no matter. If the camera is giving you good service and you love using it, then that question does not arise. Just enjoy your photography. I have kept most cameras as from far back as the 80’s and still use them from time to time and still love using my A6400 as an everyday camera despite its age. Unfortunately cameras are being sold as hybrids with the onus on video which I never use as I only shoot stills, so I don’t upgrade as wont pay for a camera that is by and large made for vlogging. Thanks for sharing.

    • @alexbemanian
      @alexbemanian  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, that’s a good point and I agree, if I enjoy using it that’s enough reason for me to keep using it. The question of is it worth it, is more so directed at other people out there contemplating buying an old camera like this. Your right, these days it’s all about the hybrid cameras that can do it all, rather than focusing on one main strength. Thanks for the feedback, cheers.

    Have bought the X-E1 a year ago. I have held the 3 X-Pro's in front of my eye and concluded that I would have little use of the OVF due to my glasses. I appreciate the images from this sensor. Even when editing them they remain more filmic than the images from my other Fujifilm X camera's.

    Hi - Thanks very much for your video!
    I purchased my first X-Pro1 back in 2012, and have had 3 further examples since.
    I keep coming back to this camera, even though I've got the latest X-H2, & the 2 F2.8, zooms.
    Forget about the "laggy" processing speed & the indifferent auto focus, this is a stills photographer's delight; I've not had so much fun & enjoyment picking up & using a camera, since the late 1960's (yes, I'm that old!), when using my late father's Leica iiif, & 50mm Summitar lens.
    This brings me nicely back to considering the most appropriate lenses for use with the X-Pro1. The aforementioned F2.8 zooms will work very well with it, but do upset the balance. However I did retain the original 3 primes, 18/35/60 which are a perfect match for the X-Pro1. Sadly my much used 35mm F1.4 ceased to auto focus & was recently replaced by a cheap XC 35mm f2, found on eBay and which auto focusses much quicker than any prime lens I've so far tried with the X-Pro1 and gives stunning results.
    I would recommend this combination to anyone looking to regain their enjoyment of "stills" photography!
    John G.
    PS. As a spectacle wearer who uses his glasses when using the viewfinder, make sure you have a +1 dioptre eyepiece attachment - it makes a huge difference to the EVF effectiveness.

    In searching for one now . I have two huge ff Canon dslr with big fast lenses , love them but they are so big so i only use them for planned shoots and i want to go back to everyday shooting again like i used ro always do . I just want something simple to use and being able to use vintage manual lenses with and the experience and joy to use is so Much more important in this case then tpp notch af and image qualty and thats why i think this is the perfect camera for me for that

    • @alexbemanian
      @alexbemanian  4 місяці тому

      I have felt exactly the same way for years, it's refreshing going to a compact setup. Its nice to have the fast lenses, i would still hold onto them. One thing about manual lenses and the x pro 1, focus peaking is pretty hard and its not exactly the best experience, its probably the only complaint i have. It is totally doable but if you can afford the x pro 2, i've heard manual focusing is much better on that camera, mostly because of the evf. Im working on a video right now shooting with the x pro 1 and some vintage canon lenses so maybe that will help, thanks for watching hope you find a good setup.

    I have some questions if someone can answer. I shoot a Nikon D700. I am a beginner who has spend many years looking at the camera hardware. I have realised that I actually love the Fujifilm colours. I just read a review where the guy is saying he likes classic neg and another simulation; and they were not on the pro 1. Also, I am not sure if I want a range find style. Maybe I do, I just don't know. What is the difference between the different camera body styles? I would be interested in a body with interchangeable lenses. I believe that this range finder style is pretty expensive. I would prefer to spend less rather than more. I would prefer a more recent model than a later one but I would want to spend more money if that extra bought something desirable. I would prefer the older model if the new model's pricing didn't deliver the value. Things like materials used, nice ergonomics and the right clicks, and functional additions with more expensive models or with newer models. Not interested in video. I looked at this a year or maybe three ago and I think the XE 4 was the cheapest and the newest. Well I just wanted to ask those questions. Thanks for any replies.

      @alexbemanian  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi , thanks for your feedback. If you like Fujifilm colors, there are lots of different options for you to choose from depending on your budget. True rangefinder cameras focus differently than slr cameras, which is the main difference…any of the Leica M cameras are true manual focus rangefinders. The Fuji cameras like the x pro series and Xe series have autofocus and would make a good choice for you, hope this helps. Good luck

    Fuji's don't really work well for the "is X camera worth it?" because they are so expensive on the used market. They're really fun and often great, but Fuji users are wild lol. X100v for $2000. X-Pro1 for $600. Etc.
    Are they worth using? Absolutely! Are they priced fairly? Ehhh.

      Yeah I get what your saying, and I agree the prices on cameras like the x100v are out of control, I’d never spend that $. I bought my xpro1 for $330, for me that was worth it, if it was any more I probably would have passed on it. And there are other older Fuji cameras around this same price range that I think are worthy. Obviously price is the main factor when talking about worth but I just wanted to remind people these old cameras can still make great quality photos by todays standards. I hope Fuji starts releasing some updates for the x100 line and x pro line, it might help out these inflated prices. Thanks for watching, cheers

      I love my X-E1 so much that I just bought a second one a week ago in case mine fails, since I am in the middle of a long term photo project with the X-E1. I paid an astounding $488 (US) for it on eBay from Japan. But it is in perfect condition; like never-used. I am happy to have paid the price and I think it's worth it.
      The X-Trans 1 sensor produces very beautiful colours along with a subtle softness that you cannot get with newer versions. I think the sample images in this video show the X-Trans 1 character very well and I agree with your message. To anyone who wants to slow down and use a camera that doesn't do everything for you automatically at lightning speed - you will be well rewarded with an X-Pro1 or X-E1.

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet 10 місяців тому

      @@Muchtoobizy Well, it's worth noting that slowing down and having control is a choice. Like I shoot all manual exposure, manual focus, in Manhattan, using 50 year old lenses.. on a Sony A7Rii. It's fine if people want the camera to help influence their psychology on the matter and I totally get that.. but it's definitely not a requirement that commands a price premium.
      I picked up an x-e1 and it was fun, thanks to the form factor. With a pancake manual prime it was ideal for street, for sure. I didn't find anything special about the rendering, though. That's just personal preference, of course. Clearly many people love it, and for good reason. Ultimately I missed having full frame for shooting at night in NYC, where there was a clear difference in performance.
      I say all that as someone who just bought a Leica Q first gen though lol. So obviously I understand that the camera plays a major role in how we shoot and how we feel shooting, and I have no space to say anything about prices 🤣

    • @Muchtoobizy
      @Muchtoobizy 10 місяців тому +1

      @@SourPlanet Its interesting that you use the original Leica Q. I also use that camera because, like the X-E1, it brings its own character to the images I take. I am not talking about huge amounts of character; just subtle nuances in tones and/or saturation levels which I appreciate. People use real film today at vast expense to achieve much more added character to their images. Point and Shoot CCD sensor cameras from the 2010's are also making a comeback.
      For a few photography enthusiasts, there is something rewarding about going out for a shoot and not knowing for sure whether they nailed the images they took and exactly how they will look. Is the exposure correct? Too much noise? Colour, Flare, Focus? When all come together to create a great image, its just wonderfully satisfying to know you did much of it by yourself (or were just lucky), rather than rely on ultra automisation.

      The x pro 1 optical viewfinder is really only useful for its frame lines, you can’t actually manually focus with it like an old film camera. I think the newer x pro 2 and 3 have an updated feature when you are using the optical viewfinder and manual focusing , there is a smaller box in the corner that is like an evf and you can see when your in focus, x pro 1 doesn’t have it.
