Okay so because of this video, I have selected this as the laptop I will be getting in a couple months for use at school. I'm opting for a slightly lower spec model, with 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p touchscreen, but I think this laptop will be great for school and casual use.
When they first got that Alienware laptop it initially came with a "free" SSD, but they could only keep and use it for a limited amount of time (not sure how long), but after that, I guess, trial period, they either needed to replace it with a HDD or pay for the SSD, and they chose the former option.

also, for li-po (and Li-ion) batteries (inside laptops, phones, tablets): the closer you keep the charge level to 70%, the longer it will last. Emptying the battery used to be a thing with Ni-based batteries but shortens Li-based batteries' lifespans. And so also does keeping them charged (at 100%) all the time.
also: every device should be charged before/during first use. you shouldn't power a device off the battery if it hasn't been charged to full capacity once.

The alienware should have had a head start. The Lenovo had a faster Bios Post time because it didn't have to go through the raid configuration without secure boot. The Lenovo has secure boot enabled but the alienware doesn't. When Diana got the alienware in the video,it had secure boot on.
I never understand why people use click on a trackpad. Just tap using your finger or tap-hold to drag. Infinitely quicker and more convenient. Also, you should have waited for the Yoga 920 which came out recently - far better and with digital pen.
Why didn't you throw a nice 1 tb SSD in the Alienware. That would've really improved the boot speed. Think your Dad deserves that .... A new battery wouldn't go amiss either ;)
Yeah. The Alienware laptop just needed some repair. It’s not like it wasn’t that bad where it needed to be scrapped like her old Toshiba Laptop and Ben’s MacBook.
I would have personally gone with a 1080p screen, even if it was the same price as the 4K screen because the screen is so high pixel density that the UI elements would be much too small if you don't use DPI scaling, and if you do use DPI scaling then you get blurry and broken UI elements (I find Windows with DPI scaling completely unusable). Also a lower resolution screen would probably make the battery last longer and would make it perform better in games. Also at that screen size there is probably no noticeable difference in image quality unless you have extremely good eyesight (apart from the places where the 4K looks worse because of the scaling).

That same thing with the battery happened to my brothers laptop where if you unplug it, it lasts for about 14 seconds before it shuts off acting like it's overheated! That is so weird. The worst part of that power switch is for someone like me who is used to using a thicker laptop with a disc drive and going to eject the drive and then ending up just shutting it off. lol

Older video but slap an SSD and take the RAM up to 6GB in that 2009 MacBook. I have the same model, still going strong with those updates. The official max from apple is 4, but she'll take 6. Also able to run Mojave on mine, but prefer Sierra. Mine tho, is on its last legs for other reasons. My brothers dogs knocked it off my desk and trampled it when no one was around. Crushed plastics, crushed display/ inverter (still works on inverted colors but kinda dim and muted) and is now showing signs of GPU failure. But... She was my first Intel Mac. I can't dump it. I'll have to get her back up with some new parts soon

Solution for those who want fast boot times with alot of programs installed. Just disable all the programs you don't need from starting up automatically in msconfig. And if your like me, you can disable windows defender, cortana, microsoft onedrive, and windows telemetry and windows update. Then your PC regardless if it's an SSD or an HDD. Will start up quickly.

Diana 2 fingers on the touchpad can be used for scrolling. No need to use nav bars in 2017.
If you have an spare wifi, you can use as an wifi extender for Diana's room. So that, you don't need to use an Ethernet cable
You can configure in the settings if the power button puts the computer in Sleep mode or to Shut down the Laptop.

My Lenovo (made in 2017) can only run Microsoft Edge. I’ve since then upgraded to a WAY better PC and I still have the Lenovo.

The small novo button is used for the bios it’s not supposed to be a normal button like the power button
