To give credit where it is due, though most of the number is based on the original choreography by Gower Champion, much of this number as well as much in the revival was re-imagined by Randy Skinner, one of Gower's two assistants on the original Broadway production of 1980.
I recently read that all of the tap choreography was created by Skinner - even in the original Broadway production. Gower Champion was a great dancer, but was not a tap dancer. Skinner and Karin Baker supplied all of the tap choreography. Skinner was given free reign over the choreography for the revivals, hence the changes. Fascinating!
saw Nadine on Bway and on tour.kid is fierce and that is my teacher Patrick Sully as Marsh! and in my opinion the best Andy Ive seen after Michael Arnold. woop!
I-if you've been singing a sa-sad and blue... song... Go... into your d-d-d-d-d-d-dance! Until you learn how to sing a... n-n-new-ne-new-new song, G... go into your d-d-d-d-dance! ...gosh! Don't be comp-p-p-p-plai-p-p-p-plaining, learn how to s-s-s-s-s-s-smile! Ha-ha-ha-ha, it's... got me! And if it's raining, dance in the rain a w-w-w-w-w-while! Put off your su-sor-su-sorrow, until tom-mo-mo-mo-morrow, Go-go-go-go into your d-du-d-du-d-dance, Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shake your shoes, and g-g-go into your d-d-dance!
@@KatMusic2009 That's Joe Dougherty's cover. I was referencing the 1935 Merrie Melodies short "Into Your Dance". Near the end of the cartoon, a dog appears who is voiced by Dougherty, who is relatively well known at the time for being the original voice of Porky Pig (the short was released the same year as, though after, a short that marked the debut of Porky, "I Haven't Got a Hat"). I was trying to replicate Dougherty's stutter.
This was the first Broadway show I ever saw. This brings back such happy memories.
the Allentown line is underappreciated- I'm from the tristate area in PA, & that line never gets old🤣
Allentown?!? You're here posting in a UA-cam comment section, and you say, "Allentown?!?". 😡
Absolutely brilliant choreography!!
They’re all great, but I gotta say, Brad Aspel (as “Andy”) is Fred Astaire quality great. Absolute precision from head to toe.
I remember seeing this on broadway when I was in middle school

So they never got their lunch?
Who is Maggie here?
Indeed! She's good. And she ain't Mary Testa.
The audio quality in the video is terrible
Very observant point. They should have filmed it on the latest iPhone!
Great Choreo of this scene. I hate modern tap shoes they sound so light but these tap shoes sound fantastic
I agree- the taps are well mic’d and may even be jingle taps.
