    Hi Aimee, your golf swing is beautiful. I am curious about when you said "slide", how about the head? Should we slide only the hip or my head also move a bit?

    • @GolfWithAimee

      Hi, thanks! The head motion will depend on one's flexibility. As you have probably noticed that the younger golfers are able to hold their heads in the same spot and make the downswing happen. Since they can bend their spines easier. However, if you started golf later in life, or your flexibility & mobility isn't the best, your head may move forward ever so slightly with the weight shift. I hope this helps! Thanks!

    Great job with elaborating on the importance of stabilizing the lead leg. That is vitally important in conjunction with the hip motions you described. When other instructors talk about "weight transfer," it is literally meaningless and of no value because that is the result of mechanics, and not a technique in itself.

    • @GolfWithAimee
      @GolfWithAimee  Рік тому

      Hi Jack. Yes there is lateral movement for the hips. Not so much for the backswing at all. But in the downswing, the lateral move is just as important as the rotational move. This is what makes the weight shift happen. You want to keep your set up angle as much as possible. That’s why we don’t want to see those hips thrusting forward as you make your downswing. Keep the hips moving laterally and rotationally but in contact with the wall! Hope this helps! Thanks 😊

Question: I see the current tour pros making a very blended motion, perhaps much more so than previous generations, with the pelvis rotating at the same time as it moves laterally. Would love to hear your thoughts on this and how to blend/time/sequence the lateral and rotary components?

    Thanks for explaining and demonstrating that so nicely Aimee. Sometimes just have to get back to some simple basic fundamentals such as this to stay dialed-in and yes this is really going to help me focus again on the proper hip turn and weight shift. I do tend to lose a little contact with the “wall” sometimes. This gives me a much better understanding of the correct sequence to practice.

    Yes this is a way to do it but it’s old school, real speed comes from the arms and hands, which can move a lot faster than the hips. If you did nothing with your arms from the top turning your hips would just leave your arms behind. Hip turn is more of a reaction to the arms pulling the hips around. Just look at all these young tour players with massive hip turn with back issues most grew up watching Tiger. How’s Tigers back doing? You never think about spinning the hips when throwing a ball or swinging a baseball bat. We need to get away from this style of teaching. To see how to do it watch Mike Malaska, or Marcus Edblad if you want to save your back.

    • @gavinelliot
      @gavinelliot Рік тому

      Don’t agree. I tried just concentrating on moving the hips-but this caused the arms to start falling into position. Obviously you have to coincide Aimee’s hip turn with swinging your arms down and through to a full finish.

  • @pdmv8471
    @pdmv8471 Рік тому

    Hi Aimee, I respectfully disagree. 1. LPGA professionals have great hip speed...but they don't on average have high distance. 2. Clubhead speed comes from the hands (and arms) independent of the lower body. Us oldtimers call that the release. The lower body plays a supporting role only. Look at the writers of golf-books from the later part of the wooden shaft era into the transition period of steel shafts. Hip turn and hitting the ball with the hips facing more toward the target is a recipe for injury to the lead knee, low back, and lead shoulder. Just look at the injury stats from the last 10+ years. Look at the big hitters from the past (Mike Dunaway/Jack/Hogan/Snead/Mike Austin/Harry Frankenburg/Hagen-just to name a few). I dare say that with today's equipment on today's tour courses anyone that I mentioned would make Rory/DJ etc look like preschoolers when it comes to distance.

    • @GolfWithAimee
      @GolfWithAimee  Рік тому +3

      Hi thanks for your opinion. As I mention in a lot of my lessons, hip turn turns the shoulders. The shoulder turn brings the hands and the club through. This is how the club falls into the slot so nicely. And the body turn is what creates the club head speed. If you didn't turn the hips or the shoulders, you will notice dramatic drop in the club head speed. With females or any other golfers with weaker core, the hip turn sometimes don't fully get transferred into the shoulder turn. This often results in back injuries, and short distance. As far as lower body stability goes, thighs/legs move separately from you pelvis. Therefore, thighs help stabilize and the hips help turn the body to swing the club through. Just need to clarify different parts of the lower body to fully understand what goes on during the swing in this case.
      And tour players tend to give up a lot of distance for their best performance. Most male golfers are a lot longer hitters before hitting the main tour. Tiger did the same thing. also, the swing and golf fitness has changed a lot over the past decades because of the injuries you mentioned.
      I hope this help clarify a lot of your ideas. Thanks!
