Sounds brilliant. Take it you've fished there before? Very pretty but can get a bit of pressure being right on the highway. The Blue and Young are good too but require a bit more walking
Yes, tribs. The upper oreti is amazing but very tough the trout are very spooky. Have a look on the nz fish and game website they have great info on rivers and access 👌it will be an amazing trip!
Just such a pleasure of a place. I think once fish start leaving the lake to spawn it will be next level action in this spot! I will be back in North Island by then though....
Great video! This type of trip is what I plan on doing at some point. I usually go to Turangi, but last went to Athol. Stayed in motels / Airbnb. But have a good hiking tent now. Can I ask a non fishing question..... Were there sandflies / mosquitoes to deal with. ?
Athol would've been great - I hope the weather played ball! Yes lots of sandflies in the shade and dawn/dusk so you need to be totally covered up! Good luck planning your #nzadventure
Super excited to share this back country mission! The gin clear river was loaded with finest rainbows and I managed to recover from breaking the top of my rod 😭 not that giving up was an option after a big hike in! It wasn't trophy water but I feel humbled to to have experienced such a beautiful remote part of NZ often only accessed by helicopters and guides.
Good effort fella. Amazing scenery and water… You never know what’s in water like that though but seeing juvenile fish is a good thing..)). Gutted breaking the rod. I suppose carrying a spare is just another thing to carry..
Ha ha yeah I was thinking earlier on the trip "what would I do if I broke a rod" but didn't think it would happen an hour later?! So lucky it was the top section so I could still get a cast out! Ah well
Very well done video. Pleasure to watch 👍
Thanks! Pleased you enjoyed it 😊
Great video buddy, making scenes. Nice work
Cheers bro! Been a wicked summer of adventures. Hope yours are going great too
Nice film. Upper O?
No, this one you have to walk a ways to get to - I think most people heli in direct from QT to be fair
@@nzadventurer I’m headed the to Makarora in Feb. Traveling from Seattle.

I have not, first time in NZ.
May hit the Oreti as well. Are the Blue and Young tribs of the Makarora?

Sick mate, this river is always a great one in summer…

Such a beautiful and special fishy spot! Now you’ll probably want a pack raft ha ha
Oooh did someone say fly fishing and pack rafting? What a brilliant idea!

Well done for making the most of the lack of overseas fishermen to overpressure that resource! Great video.
Pleased you enjoyed it!
Nice spot 🙌
Yes it's stunning right. You can see why someone would want to heli in there for a day from Queenstown right?!
