well done again Ainsley
love this place
So good 🏞️
Where is the Patagonia store please?
Patagonia Queenstown has the fly fishing section aka fly bar. Very cool spot
Well worth the perseverance , nice work.
Cheers 💯🏞️
Patagonia - ethical earthfap co., most products made from oil dun Dun DUNN... ...I have their wading pants though, and just replaced my wading boots for 100 barx on trademe what a score, when I bought them new they were like 5 or 6 hundy - lasted for years tho unlike Simms
Sight fishing is always fun!
Oh yeah 🔥🏞️
I always say it's called fishing, not catching, how many is irrelevant. Therefore, any day on the river is a good day. Cool, wee video, bud
Cheers mate such an epic bit of country we have happy new year💯
@nzadventurer same to you bud
Even if you fail, it's fun to try.
Yes, where possible we can all be learning from the feedback fish provide in each situation 🏞️ not just all easy 🏆
Another excellent adventure.... what a beautiful country we live in
Yeah so pretty! Thought I'd share this even though I can't boast a big fish in the net there's a lot to learn from the various situations 👋👌
That first fish was difficult to keep in view! Shame it didn’t stick. Better luck tomorrow eh?
Haven't given up. Hard to see with a lot of glare. Thx for watching
Great viewing early morning with a coffee. 😊
Nice chill start to the day while the coffee kicks in 👌
Love your videos , finding them very enjoyable, new to fly fishing so learning what I can from you. Would love to hear a little about the gear you're using (rod ,reel , weight etc). Love your passion look forward to the next one 👍
Thanks for the encouraging feedback 👌 I'm not a real gear head and not tied to any particular brand or supplier. Could be a good idea to talk tackle in the new year. Are you wanting generic setup info more than particular rod model recommendation etc?
@nzadventurer just generic info like whether your using 5 weight rod or 6 in the different size rivers your fishing, maybe a favorite reel your using etc. Your videos are fantastic as they are already, totally inspiring.
@@damiantrownson3687I might start selling a few of my tried and tested equipment on my online store - just a few things that are reasonably priced but do the job great one example is the polarized glasses I'm just waiting on stock for. They'll be $50 or $60 and are excellent glasses!
@nzadventurer thanks mate, yeah understand that about the free advertising 👍 sweet thanks for the tips , I'm using a 6weight but thinking I might drop to 5 , awesome I'll be sure to check out your shop. Cheers 🍻
Do the mahi, get the treats. Solid effort lads, especially Bruce for keeping up 😂
🏞️🔥
Thanks Ashleigh, cool project for you, such beautiful water and fish. Look forward to seeing more videos, Cheers Mike
Cheers 👋
Bruce has just scared off gym-shy would-be fishing companions Ainsley! Me included...
Ha ha 🚁 👌🏽
Awesome video
Thanks 🙏
Do you just angle for sighted fish-or do you search the water too.
Mostly sighted, especially if clear water
Tough conditions but braving the elements and persisting with it can sometimes bring you the chocolates. I believe that situation with Bruce and the broken hook on the lost fish on the dry fly eat. On camera the strike looked to be too aggressive. I've seen that happen before. Dry fly eats only need to be a gentle pull through in the strike. Good video there, Ainsley 👍🏻
I'll tell Bruce to calm down 😂 need to rewatch these opening day videos in september next year to remember how hard the conditions are as it's otherwise too easy to fall into the trip of thinks it's all easy fish in the sunshine 🤔 cheers for watching hopefully you're getting out a bit and not just stuck at home watching yt 😁
Ended up breaking 3 or 4 of these same dry flies over the course of October... Then Tony E taught me to test them against my thumbnail before using them... That man actually knows it all 👌🎣🏆
@nzadventurer I have a torn calf at the moment so too much time for youtube atm 😅 I done it on the river a couple of weeks back. I might need to do some work on them in the gym in the future 😅
@nzadventurer He used to teach Mike Kirkpatrick a thing or 2 back when Mike was much younger, of course, and that's saying something on Mr. Entwistles' behalf, considering Mikes prowess
Oh no sorry to hear that. Hope you have a speedy recovery bro
You may regret letting everyone know about particular flies that work well. Been using them for 20 years at least and expect everyone to know now. Was an old saying that very much applies to fishing....loose lips sinks ships
Hmmm I hear ya 🙏 the spider does also scare a lot of fish so it's a let the angler beware scenario him sure folks with fund that out for themselves ☠️
Gnarly conditions…but a nice clear river. Big effort.
Bruce was a bit over the walking! Thanks Pete hopefully your summer is going awesome say hi if ya see my wagon around
It's always good to try new patterns and build confidence in fishing them by persisting long enough to catch a few. I have more experience fishing spider patterns in Australia and over there, colour didn't matter one bit, neither were they picky about size. Had a few goes with fishing smaller beetle patterns in tandem, but the fish always went the spider pattern. I'll have to tie a few up and give them a go this season. I've kicked all the standard hair & copper as well as pheasant tail nymphs from my boxes for the season. Cheers
Sounds like a plan! I hope you have success with the spider patterns and whatever you put in place of the standards you removed!
Great to see…always a buzz when you succeed with something new. Merry Christmas Ainsley. 🎉
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Excellent Ainsley, Epic on the spider flies, I have used them but found them more productive in the beech forest streams
Good to hear! I'll have to give them a go in those spots too! Merry Christmas
Caught one picky trout out of a beautiful South Island river in late January on a black foam spider. It works👍
Sounds like you nailed it! I tied a few in grey as it seems closer to the natural - what are you thoughts on need to colour match this dry?
@ it wouldn’t hurt 😉 but maybe not necessary.
Good on ya, buddy. Great catch on the spider fly, and I always say there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Well done..
Always fun to make things a bit more challenging 🏞️🕷️
Really enjoyed this one. Love the pace of your content.
Great, I'm pleased you enjoyed. I loved the slow, relaxing style of our trip so I'm happy that translated into a chill experience for you watching 🏞️
NZA spider fly ties! Support the channel and get a custom spider dry fly 🔥🔥🕷️🕷️Hey crew for any of you supers out there I tied a few spiders in grey which are available to buy. They take 30mins+ to tie so won't be cheap as from h&f but if you want to support the channel and are keen on trying one of my personal ties view the store here: nz-adventurer-shop.fourthwall.com/en-nzd/products/spider-fly-grey
That was great, thanks!
Awesome to hear you enjoyed it! 🏞️🔥
Great work. I've heard of others using a sinking version below an indicator and fishing it blind and to sighted fish.
Great tip!
excellent work mate
Thanks for watching! 🕷️🕷️🏞️🔥👌
Nice Ashleigh. Might have to try the Daddy Long Legs patterns I've had for a couple of seasons and never used! Merry Xmas!
Could be worth a try! Else maybe they're cake decorations 🕷️🕷️🎂😂
❤ Thanks for putting circles around the fish for the hopeless people (me!)
Cheers! Helps everyone see the action 👌🥸
Tony knows! Right hand retrieve must be the right thing😉🤩
Haha true
21:02 that trout is fn stunning!
Fish of a lifetime
Great Vids mate thanks for sharing I am learning a fair bit off ya 👍
Awesome to hear you're finding it helpful, glad you're enjoying it!
Tough day!
😂👍🏼
Great stuff there mate. Awesome 2nd part on your trip with Mr Entwistle, the great man. Top video
Thanks heaps! It was an epic adventure!
Such beautiful scenery. That gin clear water just adds to the adventure. Thanks for sharing 🙏🇻🇬
It’s a real privilege to fish those pristine waters, hope you enjoyed the episode 🏞️⛺🔥💯
That river's a stunna, love the clever filming, bird info - everything I love!
🙏🏞️👍🏼
Awesome stuff guys. Good tips and a beautiful looking river. Reminds of the Pelorus above Tinline.
It's a special spot. Tricky windy conditions and funny light but always a pleasure to be out adventuring
fantastic, what a great episode. 2 great anglers enjoying each others company.
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed the episode 👌🏞️🔥
Golden advice as always. I'd love to know what was said underneath the long winded bleep 🤣 The social fishos can continue to have their dreams shattered by the realities of fishing. Those of us who know, and appreciate, those realities will continue to have epic adventures. After all, why should a day on the water only revolve around fish when there are so many other rewarding aspects, like learning different methods and trying new ways. Keep up the good work, I certainly appreciate the mahi that you put into these videos.
Sweet man cheers for the comment and glad you enjoyed it!
I also swap hands being right handed caster and winder and never imagined doing otherwise and also have a bronze in WFFC with Tony. Contact me when you are in the Central North again and I will also share some tricks with you, Mike Oliver.
Cheers Mike, wow! Yeah could be an option I thought I might have spent last winter your way but didn't make it... 👋
I predict we will get there in 2025. I miss the hot pools!
Good stuff great advice 🙏💯💯
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed the episode 👌🏞️🔥
#1. Another great one thanks Ainsley. Have managed to get into the back country myself for a 6 day trip. Some stunning fish to the net. 😊
That's awesome! Bet uou enjoyed that 🏞️🔥⛺Cheers Pete
great video, is it true as you say the rivers are much more plentiful in the North Island?
Plentiful in terms of fish number? Yes. Fish numbers in the south seem to be quite a bit lower
What a day on the river. Tony is a legend, the fishing equivalent of Max. Keep up the good work Ainsley
🏞️👌🔥
You loose all credibility when you edit the deployment of the staff.
😂
Yup...it only takes one nice fish to make it an awesome day out!
For sure!
Keep your rod higher peeps. Cool trip, pleased you two had a fun adventure. Tony is way better at spotting than me ha ha
Yeah he's a real magician! Glad you enjoyed the episode 👍
