While the animation in the 2008 version is better it just doesn’t have the right feel to me like the stop motion of the 1974 version
You just can't top the original version if it was perfected out the door.

For me, it's not the lip syncing, it's the puppets. They're oddly expressionless compared with the 1974 ones.

Fun fact: at 5:22 you can see that Snow Miser keeps spinning when he says "That's Right!" but his head stays pointing the camera. This means that, canonically, Snow Miser can turn his head 360 degrees, although I imagine he much prefers it 20, 10, 5 and then let it freeze.

How humble of George S. Irving to come back, 86 years young, to reprise the role of Heat Miser 34 years after the fact. You know he was doing it for the kids and the adults who are showing their kids what they grew up on. Blessed!
The original was the best. The 2008 wasn't bad, and tons of credit to George S. Irving for coming back (Snow Miser just wasn't quite the same). That live-action -- thing -- oh ye gods, what was that?!
@@thomaswheeler9126 They also got Mickey Rooney back as Santa Claus. Yeah, it's too bad Dick Shawn wasn't around anymore to reprise Snow Miser. I feel like they could have either gotten someone better than Juan Chioran (the new voice of Snow Miser) or had him listen to Shawn's original performance a bit more so he could emulate the singing better. By no means did Chioran do a bad job. It just didn't quite live up to the original. And ye, the live action one...what the hell?

It was made with love from the heart and care for the spirit of the holiday and what it was based on
The live action is just **shudders** lets not talk about that
Stop motion for life!
True the stop motion is more superior but this brings a question. Why is the tempo of the song in 2008 version slower? Granted the the original slowed the tempo in the original when they introduce Heatmiser, but if I had to choose which version kept the song to a energetic rhythm and catchy beat it would be the live action version.
Sure Micheal Mckean nailed as the snowmiser as he sang, and I didn't like Heatmisers voice but if you listen to the rhythm and beat it's really good.
Heck the only way your gonna get heat miser to sing to the same tempo as snow miser in the original is if you sped up the video
I agree stop Montion is better
1974 is by far the best. something about the old animations like rudolph, etc with the painted wooden looking puppets with rough edges, and Snow Meisers hair having that glossy look reminds me of decor you would put around the house during the holidays and gives me nostalgia
funny you mention them looking like painted wood puppets, because that's exactly what they are
Agreed, the old versions had detail, big, and small, making them memorable all these years.
I feel the same as you do, in regards that the 1974 version is the best. The live action one just was... I don't know.. strange. And honestly, the 2008 version was actually kind of creepy... Also... What the HELL was Snow Miser doing with his tongue at Heat Miser's ear at 8:38?! I thought this was a KIDS program!!

The original is still by far the best, with the remake an honest attempt to appeal to the charms of the original. The live action was... well... Snow Miser was a good attempt. And I like the Hawaiian Shirt Heat Miser. The premise was pretty... bad. And that's putting it mildly, but for what it's worth, having the Snow Miser side fire Icicle Bolts from a Ballista and Heat Mister slingshot Fireballs? That was a nice touch.

Its not a remake, its meant to be a sequel iirc. It's not bad, but my main issue is that too many designs are different. But its still fun and a good attempt at recreating the magic of Rankin Bass's Christmas classics.
Live Action movie deserves to be forgotten about, i had till this, though it has a few neat ideas but they get drowned out by everything else being pretty awful.
I find heat miser vocal kind of distracting
I think what the remakes miss is how the two verses change in tempo. Snow miser is upbeat and jovial, bouncing and showboaty. Heat miser takes the slower more lethargic but relaxed tempo
Talk to anyone who lives in a hot, and worse muggy, area and you don't do ANYTHING fast if you can help it
To add to this: now this may be my own perspective, but I see them as two types of gays: the forever boy and the old queen.
Snow Miser is , as Mrs. Claus puts it “a ham”. He’s boisterous, a showman, and someone who enjoys the young lead of musical theatre.
Heat Miser is the old bitter queen. He’s slower in movement, more negative outlook on life, but still loves to put on a performance. Not solely for the love of theatre, but also to show he still has it.
Both sides have their valid experiences (wanting to live life and have fun vs wanting to be appreciated for all the hard work they do/did for their community), but both are also extreme ends of the spectrum.

Nah if you listen closely to the 2008 version I think he says "a breeze" but they probably purposely made it sound kinda muddy to appease both audiences. Sadly though, in the live action remake and just about every cover ever, he rhymes degrees with degrees.
Can someone please time stamp the part of the song your talking about?

@@lilolebob thank you for your help
This is why he says “They call me-“
Because unlike Snowmiser, he has no friends
Scientifically speaking, Snow Miser is almost certainly orders of magnitude more powerful than Heat Miser. Heat Miser's touch causes extreme heat that can melt metal very quickly. *Snow Miser* on the other hand not only instantly siphons unfathomable amounts of heat from objects, but also changes their entire subatomic composition and transmutes them into water, and thus snow. Whether or not this ability is limited merely to turning things into snow rather than being able to freely manipulate the atomic structure of an object, this alone makes him leagues more powerful than Heat Miser, because no matter how much heat Heat Miser imparts to an object, Snow Miser can take all of that heat away. And all of the heat has to go *somewhere* to make something cold, so it's possible he absorbs all that heat himself and he's just an eldritch heat sink
In short, my childhood self was completely right to prefer the cold and now I have the armchair scientist chops to prove it
Also Snow Miser can turn the object back into its original form. Aka: hat to snow then back to a hat.
TLDR: snow miser was atom eve before it was cool
I like this analysis, but how do you explain Heat Miser reaching up to melt a part of the moon??? That would surely put him leagues above Snow Miser right?
I've been thinking about this myself. They're basically spirits representing the difference of degrees of temperature in nature, so heat miser makes sense. Heat is just energy after all, so he hoarded an excess of it, since he's a miser. Snow miser doesn't make sense in the slightest, you can't hoard an absence of something. Snow is a totally different substance from pure energy, but I guess you could hoard a substance that has an absence of something, it's just really disconcerting. Like, snow miser is made of snow. If you look at his skin and legs, they're all glittery. What in the good god is heat miser made of, pure energy? Is this incongruity on purpose? Nobody except the writers will ever know. If anything, the idea for both of these chaps was probably pitched with the lowest of confidence to the review team and the supervisor okay'd it but you could probably still hear the discontent in his voice.
Not the Rankin-Bass powerscaling
it's a shame the 2008 version did not have the original Voice actor for Snow Miser. sadly he passed away in the 1980's. but the original voice actor for Heat miser was great glad he was still with us. when they did the 2008 version.... I'm not crazy about the graphics for Snow and Heat Miser the look they had for the 1974 version was better. the same goes for Mrs. Clause.
I like the 2008 version better. I like both, they both have nostalgia for me but I used to love watching the 2008 version when it came on tv. Thought it came out earlier though.
Heat miser looks more friendly and snow miser looks younger in the 2008
they shouldve used the old props of them from the original movie for the 2008 one
@@Godofawesome16 I agree
Can't lie though the guy who voiced snow in 2008 did a great job to live up to the snow miser song

You know, after all these decades, I never picked up on that. And it's a darn good point, and I'm certain it was intentional.
Yeah
I once had friends but they melted in my clutch I'm too much
1974- while I never grew up with this version, I recognize it has its iconic nature and well portrayed openings to the songs. At a storytelling standpoint it made sense to introduce both characters at different intervals, giving more purpose for their unique introductions. I’ll always love the iconic line of “Some like it hot but I like it REALLY hot.”
2008- This was the one I grew up with and I will always remember it. I still remember it but after watching the original I appreciated the new concepts they showed such as having both brothers sing in competition which each other, which made sense for their characters and their enclosed environment. I also love the designs of the minions on both sides, rather than having the minions be smaller versions of the brothers they actually have their own unique designs while still having a uniform to them. Also, the design of snowmiser design in 1974 always unsettled me with how scary he looked.
Live Action- Um…what can I say that hasn’t already been said? Snow miser is ok, not good, he doesn’t do anything new but he’s not harmful in any way. Aside that, the live action clearly tries to do what the 2008 version did except it had no charm to it. They say “starts to melt/snow in my clutch” but never show that which always bothers me. I’ll admit, the joke of “ow! Too much!” At the end was new and makes partial sense for the characters.

@@101jir in the original the brothers feel like Greek Gods, they do their job and don't give a fuck if innocents are hurt in the crossfire of their endless war for global heat, Snow Miser definitively looks the more friendly of the two but still has a mystic aura around him which makes him somewhat intimidating even if after his song he show's that he's willing to help Mrs Claus and guides them to his brother's place so they can come up with a compromise, Heat Miser on the other hand looks evil and devilish, unlike Snow he never restores any of the items he melts during the song, add to the fact that his brother hypes him up to the elves and the viewers by describing him as a compulsive hothead and you've got a great complementary relationship between the two bros as semi-antagonists for the movie, really goes to show how two well written and catchy songs can make the motives and personality of two characters clear as crystal for viewers of all ages
There’s something about the original that has a stronger charm to me more than the rest.
It’s because they add to the story rather then just be a musical time stamp. Also, they have alot of energy to them.
To give a little referent:
1974, the original, is from _A Year Without a Santa Claus_ . It's a good old Rankin/Bass stop-motion number.
2006 is the live-action remake by the same title. There are several added subplots, some plot changes, and you've just heard the only song to make it in. A Warner Brothers production for NBC. That's Michael McKean as Snow Miser, and none other that the appropriately-flaming Harvey Fierstein as Heat Miser.
2008 is _A Miser Brothers Christmas_ . While Heat Miser is voiced by his original actor (George S. Irving, then 86... good set of pipes), Snow Miser's original actor (Dick Shawn) died in 1987, so Mister Ten Below is being voiced by Juan Chioran. This picture is made by Cuppa Coffee Studios for Warner Brothers Animation.

It took me awhile to get used to the 2008 designs, but in the end, they aren't that terrible, but not as memorable and fascinating as the original designs. Some of the other models in the special compared to them were either too cute or too ugly to match Rankin Bass' old school charm and aesthetic.

Cold Miser seems to be the type of guy you go to the clubs with and everybody knows him. Heat Miser is the guy you meet on the beach during the summer and the two of you drink beer on the beach and chill.
Just found out that Heat Miser's voice actor from the original, George S. Irving reprised his role for the 2008 remake. Even after 30+ years he does a flawless job. Amazing actor

Sadly, nothing can compare to the humor and voice of the original Snow Miser. Also, the original Miser brother mini mes of each were so friggin cute.
the 2008 mini snow misers dont look as good as the original ones honestly
Live action was and still is painful. x_x Weirdly enough, the live action Snow Miser and and the newest Heat Miser sounded the closest to the originals to me.
More painful than their Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive versions?
DreKozar that's because the remake was more....swingy

@@drixg555 "excuse me, the fuck did you just say?"
@@superrandomguy-lz4jf I'm sorry. I should never have mentioned Operation Overdrive. It was one of the worst of franchise and it still peeves fans to this day. The Miser Brothers did not deserve to be compared to Moltor and Flurious.
@@drixg555 no I mean elaborate on what you just said
2006: best idea
1974: best visuals
2008: best execution
Watching this now it seems like Snow Miser is actually the nicer one, while Heat miser just comes off as being hyper aggressive
it makes sense since to stop being cold you just need to go inside or wear a coat, but to stop being hot you have to live inside of a freezer for the entire summer
Well, heat does contain more energy than cold
LOL
Well he is HOT headed
I find while that is true, Snow Miser tends to purposefully hit Heat Miser's buttons to get him to blow his top, perhaps to blame Heat Miser for "starting it"
Guess you call him a *chill* dude
Heat Miser's voice in the 2006 version is terrible. He sounds like the announcer from Crazy Taxi.
George Irving will always be the true version.

At least snow miser has a good voice
I saw the 2008 version before the 1974, but the latter is obviously the best one. Both animations were great. I love how the original voice actor for heat miser came back in the spin-off sequel. He sounded almost exactly the same
Snow miser is the most extra person ever and it's amazing
He's too much
Original is by far the best for me! There is so much charm in both performances that you just want to watch it over and over again
10:26-10:27 And 10:28-10:29 Heat Miser: Green Christmas! Snow Miser: White Christmas!
It actually inspired me to buy the movie off of UA-cam since I had lost the original disc for it as a child
I like the 1974 version, they made Snow Miser look like a really fun and friendly guy and made Heat Miser a real grump! And for 2006, I could've lived better never knowing it existed.
full on agree w this
I have learned that no matter what 50 degrees is hated by everyone
I find they finally did Mr.Heat Miser justice in 2008. He got a snazy new outfit and has an overall friendlier look to him now smiling more.
The other ones on the other hand depict him rather badly and being a grump.
played by the original 74’ guy too!
Well yeah not every character needs to be like Pinkie Pie or Spongebob.
@@Bunni504 I am not saying that he needs to be happy all the time just that he can also smile sometimes.
@@davidmartin5483 he does have a positive side. He thanks his mini-mes, seems to take pride in being "too much", and comes up with very creative insults.
It's a little less America-centric, since there are a couple English-speaking countries on the southern-hemisphere that experience their Summer during Christmas, where it's better to have a warm Christmas day for barbecues and outdoor activities to enjoy without rain getting in the way.

Live action snow miser is ok, heat miser is, ew why, the 2008 snow miser voice is just a little grating too,
RedLighting Animation
I, have to agree with that.
Sadly Snow Miser's original voice actor passed away before they could get him to reprise his role.
Even though I don’t mind it I can see your point
UnlimitedEdge sounds like they got the one for Heat Miser though. Am I right?
Heat Miser in the live action one is Harvey Fierstein he was the original Edna Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway and his voice actually sounds like that, yet he still has a more successful career than any of us XD
I grew up with the 2008 Sequel, as it was called, so I like it more than the rest, but I do give credit where its due and I do appreciate the original! I just have more emotional attachment to the sequel.
This is the exact same for me. The 2008 special holds a special place in my heart, and I consider it on of my favorite Christmas movies of all time, along with Elf and Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights.
Understand sentimental value since I grew up with the original one, but the 2008 animation actually scares me tho
10:32 We gonna ignore the fact that Heat Miser was about to ANNIHILATE his brother?
Can't go wrong with the classics (1974) And the (2008) version is a touch of excellency too.
To be honest, the only reason why I like the 2008 version is because of that little shimmy Snow Miser does near the end of the song.
Kerry Bolanos-Shaw That is one of my favorite parts too tbh.
A bit late to the party but I barely caught that and had to go back and watch it again 😂❤ I love it, it's so cute.
The 2008 version was my childhood, and I could never get enough of the little minions that look like them, haha they are all so cute! 😆
I think we can mutually agree the best was 1974
the live action heat miser voice is scary as hell

Yeah, while I put the live action one ahead of the 2008 one personally, that definitely came across as a cheap shot. Although I felt that in the 2008 one everything else came across as cheap.
I remember watching The Miser Brothers' Christmas back in 2008. It's really underrated.
The original is by far the best version. The song is just catchy. The 2008 version was a fan service to the popularity of the Miser Brothers. When I heard they were getting their own special I was excited. For what it was, it was pretty decent. While it can't compare to the original, it was still pretty decent. Another thing is if you listen you can tell George Irving's throughout his part of the song. He lacks the force he had in the original and just sounds winded throughout. In many ways I feel this came a few years too late. Too bad Rankin and Bass never revisited these characters themselves. The live action is something I wish to forget exists. RIP Dick Shawn, George Irving, Shirley Booth, and Mickey Rooney.
The minions in the newer stop motion look like they hate being there
I will never get over how adorable the heat miser minions are
why don't they have a fight to the death? Whoever wins will get their weather
JoJoSoda mother nature wouldn't let them she be pissed off and there to big momma's boys to fight a actual fight
I think that's just about what they were doing at the end there !

Heat would win right? That’s kinda the way it always works.
Phil Swift’s grandfather Heat Miser just melted stuff. Snow Miser can transmute anything into snow.
Live action heat miser: *exists*
Also live action heat miser: “EAAAAAA”

Man Chuck really went insane if he chose to do this
This man melted the moon
Which is weird when you think about it. You see the 2008 movie takes place after the original 1974 version. In the sequel we get to see a meeting with Mother Nature and her many other children. Two of them are the Tides, which are effected by the moon, which was melted by Heat Miser... So... That's awkward.
Mother Nature: So, how are all my children doing?
Tide 1: Everything was fine.
MN: "Was"?
T 2: Heat Miser Melted the Moon, the MOON! How are we supposed to control the Tides without the Moon?!
MN: You did WHAT?!
HM: I can explain. You see, Mrs. Claus came for a visit and I put on my show as normal and I melted it for a bit of shomanship...
SM: He's so screwed now.
Beat that, gru
Really??!?
1974 snow miser will always be the best version...
I remember watching the 1974 movie every Christmas, in my opinion one of the best old stop motion holiday themed movies.
Liked the 2008 one the best. Love how they made a duet, makes it more dynamic that simply dancing around.
I do not really understand why does everybody else dislike the 2008 version tho, I think it's pretty alright. Just the eyes are a bit weird.
For me 2008 and 1974 Are a tie
1974 version has a better sound, tune, and singing in general
I think that 4:01 has the best singing, while 7:32 has a bit better Stop Motion- Both amazing and both absolute classics.
1 thing I noticed was that in the 2008 remake, the outfits for Snow and Heat miser's minions are callbacks to their 1974 outfits. Which I found cool.

Snow Miser: Apeears from the ground somehow
Heat Miser: WHAT THE FRICK??
