The Family Video 5 min from my house just closed down... 😞
@@LAH-oq7vx I have 2 near me but never think about going into them.
I grew up in a small town, so the only places that rented movies and games were the grocery store and small town bar. Needless to say, the selection was pretty skimpy, usually giving about 5 games and 30 movies to pick from.
The first time I was able to visit a real video store, my jaw hit the floor. It blew my little kid mind to see so many movies and better yet, so many video games that I could rent.
I’ve always wanted to go into Family Video. Great video John! My favorite memory was at Hollywood Video back in 1998 was into Lethal Weapon at the time and was also getting into other action movies. There I found The Road Warrior. I ended up renting it and the other Mad Max films. Changed my life forever.
The Flick Pick I Ren we going to Family Video when I was very young and saw the advertisements for X-Men:Origins Wolverine and I thought it looked like the coolest thing ever. Times have changed.
Really like the style of this video, very cinematic and of course magical and mystical
Not to mention it makes one feel better about who they are and what they're doing in life 🤷♂️
Check out Portable Trevor's Tony Hawk video (PT is who shot this for John)
I may be wrong, but I think the cashier's voice might have been dubbed.
Dat "The Room" reference at the end though 🤣🤣🤣
I know I was dying laughing
I loved it
I don’t know why but i feel like it’s filmed with imax cameras like the one used for the dark knight and rises
It was shot by @PortableTrevor so go check out more of his work.
Their was way to little dynamic range for that
Didn’t think I needed this video today. Definitely brought back the nostalgia wow wish I could jump back over ten years and walk to my blockbuster that was like 5 minutes away
Damn bro so do I
This vid was definitely vintage Flick Pick.
I need to go back 30 years for a genuine video rental experience.
email pickflickinger@gmail.com with your info!
The Flick Pick hey john didn’t see your message til now sending you a gmail message thank you buddy
I’m 19 years old and when I told one of my friends that I like to collect physical media they thought I had lost my mind
and I would absolutely LOVE to visit that store!
Please don't listen to your friends. Have fun & start a collection! 👌
Physical media is better than digital...
Crunch Buttsteak oh I have! and I’m rather proud of it!
@@megangarrett847 Haha glad to hear that!
Digital is great... if you don't mind having the things you love taken from you at any moment, for any reason.
The production value of this video is insanely well done! Now I gotta find myself a family video
@PortableTrevor has been making amazing videos for years, you should check out more of his work! (he shot this for John)
email pickflickinger@gmail.com with your info!
As some one who currently works at and loves being at Family Video this video really encompasses all the reasons why I love being apart of Family Video!
Most Proffessional Flick Trip Ever....Most magical And Mystical... Love you John.... 😍💕💕💕
Love your videos and your enthusiasm for physical media! This place looks like heaven
dude i used to spend hours in the video store every week just in absolute awe with the huge variety. i really do hope this video store stays up forever man. so many damn good memories
It's crazy that there are people alive today who haven't experienced or will never experience the joy of browsing a music store or video store aisle for hours. Discovering new artists/genres, movies, TV shows, etc.
I find myself doing the same thing but at flea markets selling used film cameras of all kinds. 4 hours at a shop in Bangkok. Time flew so fast because of the insane choice.
As a northeast Ohioan I am always proud when I see you and Chris hype up family video!!🥰🥰🥰
I really do miss that store I remember I used to rent movies there every Friday after school
Love the production quality of the video. Nice thing about Family Video, they always had similar lay outs. Now this location shown in the video is nothing like the locations around Chicago. They were mostly brick and had a brick and glass pillar in front. But this was my all time favorite place to rent movies from even over Blockbuster. They were family friendly, reasonably priced, and always had a wide selection of new and old movies. Family Video will be missed.
2:25 STOP THIS MADNESS😭😭😭
The Room reference at the end was hilarious Hahaha
God I love video shops. They remind me of much better times! Alas those days are gone, we’re all in the great game now.
Humanity needs video rental stores
This made me cry. So beautiful.
When I was a kid I loved going to family video. My dad and I would rent goosebumps episodes and grab a little ceasers pizza next door.
Almost sheds a tear . Miss VHS stores.
This video is shot so well and the aesthetic is so pleasing. However, what I am the most happy about is that you went to MY local Family Video for this trip. Out of all the ones you could've gone to, you came to mine. That is so awesome to me!
Great working with you on this video dude! So fun.
Going to video store was the greatest thing as a kid. Miss those days.
I miss video rental stores. Ok I can’t deny the convenience of streaming/downloading movies is handy. But you can’t beat the physical elements of going to a video store. The smell, reading the actual boxes. Loved it. I live in Southern England and I don’t know of any in existence in my local area.
THE QUALITY... IS IMMACULATE
This is the coolest ad I’ve ever seen
OOOOOOO WWF No mercy! Yes, I bought that from Blockbuster from back in the day. I love it.
Always appreciate the retro aesthetic.
We actually have a place in my town called Top Hat Video, and it's still open to this day. In fact, somehow even during quarantine, it's almost doing just as well as ever. The locals are passionate about keeping it open and supporting it.
Ive seen this video 3 times and each time I learn something new about myself
This is truly a magical and mystical video John. It lived up to the hype!
Didn’t have a Family Video, but did have a Hollywood Video and man that brings back some memories.
I wish blockbuster video still existed, i remember when i rented alot of movies and video games over ten years ago. good memories and good times.
I remember the day when I could go to a magical place like these! I miss those days!
John... Thank You! 🙏🏼
Love the magical and mystical background music. The cinematography takes me back to my happy place.
Got 3 ice cubes no more no less and replayed the video.
Thanks John.
This video rocks! Shows how much you care about film and how they make people feel
man rental stores are the best love video stores !!!!!
John somehow made this flick trip more visually pleasing than most recent movies.
Its great to know that are still video stores around
I'm my hometown. There was a family video that replaced a movie gallery, but my location closed in 2021, and turned into a SSM physical therapy place
This tingles me in all the right places
Also, nice dolly
What a nostalgic video. I adore family video, I miss the days of going every Friday to rent some movies with my family
Very magical and mystical video. Great cinematic quality... I worked at Blockbuster for years back in the day and one thing streaming will never duplicate is real people talking about a movie in person.
This makes me nostalgic of your 2016 flick trips. The way that you’ve helped to mould me as a person will make me forever grateful! My love for movies and acting has grown and matured! The way you’ve helped promote this business too shows how caring and compassionate you are! Stay safe John!✌🏻
2:55 i loved it dude, awesome!
Thanks for taking me back flick, on this magical journey. reminds me of walking down those isles finding the 2-3 movies I could take home.. had to be precise.
Why did this feel like a Flick Trip finale? So bittersweet. 😭 keep up the good work brotha.
My favorite Blockbuster rental (when it existed) was Conker's Bad Fur Day, finding a copy of that game was literally rare and renting was worth every penny, it was always disappointing when it wasn't available and even more so when video games were discontinued...
Family Video is what streaming is not love. Streaming is ok but there is nothing better than walking into a family video and walking around and taking it in. I have had great times there.
Dude....Best Flick Trip EVER
At first I didn’t know what movies were kept in the back of store... 🎥
i remember when i was young kiddo (like 8 years old) my dad always drove me to the video rental shop and came pick me up like 4 hours later.. that was my piece of heaven
:D
Man, these are what keep me going through the weeks!!
This is the highest production value i've ever seen on one of your videos John, keep it up
Editing really stands out, definitely an underrated video and pitch for video stores
I had a Family Video here in Indy that I probably went to every weekend during my childhood. I have so many memories of getting movies and video games. It always makes me sad to pass it and see a Dollar General in its place now.
This video is the highest quality thing I’ve ever seen on UA-cam
This was great video rentals should be brought back everywhere always great nostalgic memories when think back to those trips to the local video store. Great video thanks John
This is NOT a video store, you are wrong, I call a place like this HEAVEN!!!!
John i am so proud of how far you’ve come. Being a long term subscriber, your video production is starting to match the substance of who you are as a person. Im sending this video to everyone i know because the Flick Trips is the best series on youtube. I know if you keep posting content frequently and of this quality, your views will rapidly increase! Thankyou so much for SUCH awesome content! So magical, so mystical!
"You are my favorite customer" haha love that, you are creative.. I bedm watching your videos since you started like 10 years ago
My family video in my town closed years ago and now it's another dollar general store. 😞😭
And I loved the american psycho reference in the beginning "now time to return some video tapes."
Great video John! I dearly miss some videos with you and Stuckmann. You guys are just so great together!
I’m only 17 so I don’t have many memories of video stores, but I did love them. I remember renting Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Tron Legacy, which are all really nostalgic to me today.
Always loved the mom and pop video stores. Lot of them didn’t make it once blockbuster arrived but I’ll always remember my free hot popcorn when you rent a movie. 🍿
Great production values. Great looking video.
Your facial expressions where spot on
Love this video it brings the magic to life I'm glad you are showing this so maybe the younger crowd can get the idea of what we had.
We needed this, John. And I think you needed this too. Videos coming from the heart like this one have cheered so many people up over the years. I still remember like it was yesterday, after watching your Mad Max movie night video and your movie room tour from back in the day I said to myself: "I love movies and I want to have fun like this guy when I watch them!". And that's what got me into collecting movies and having a great time with them.
So, thank you John! Keep making videos about things you enjoy, we appreciate them. There's already so many people out there forcing themselves to do stuff they don't like. Videos like this are the real deal man, cheers!
This was a little bit magical and a little bit mystical
I love my Family Video....I’ve worked there the past 5 years. I love the way you filmed this!
I spent most of my youth in my local video stores. I am most proud of renting Tequila Sunrise on my first day in a newly opened video store, lending it to a friend for the night, having him not return it for three months and racking up a 300 dollar fine for a daily movie. Videoland closed without receiving that fine.
R.I.P Blockbuster.
I miss family video I just charged my phone and found the old Family Video Frenzy
I live in the UK, i really miss video stores, i got to rent some really bad movies and buy some giant bags of pop corn, good times 😀
Rip family video. Forevrr my happy place
Miss the old blockbuster rental store in the UK used to enjoy walking around and spending hours choosing what to watch. And you could get half price offers on old vhs, dvd etc good memories 📀📀📀
There are two video theaters in North Idaho, that are still open and running. They are also video rental stores.
Amazing quality on this vid, John!
I remember going to Blockbuster as all the stores were closing down, and my friend begged me to buy him Air Buddies because his "girlfriend would love it" and he didn't "have four dollars"...
I did it, and I STILL miss the video store.
There was an independent video rental store called Video Action where I live. It was only small but I loved it in there. I remember excitedly going to the store to get The World Is Not Enough since I was too young to see it in the cinema. Ahh the memories!
This video made me a little bit magical and a little bit tingly
I miss going into my local Blockbuster Video every Saturday night not only to pick up rental movies, but for sheer entertainment value. That’s when the not so cinephile crowd would come in and would always comment on movies and titles as they browsed the shelves to find something to rent. My favorite was when some young lady was commenting on the title of a movie to her friend. She said, “Well, that’s stupid. Why would anyone want to kick a hornet’s nest. It’s like she’d never before heard that figure of speech.
I haven't been to a video store for a while, if I go to one now, I would cry.
John your videos have never looked better. Keep up the great content, my guy 👊
that room styles sequence at the end was awesome
Wow!!! 😍😍😍 Such an Amazingly made video, the clarity is so good, the Vibe is totally Magical and Mystical! ❤️❤️❤️ Hoping to see more of this style!
This video could change the world.
Oh how I miss these fine establishments
I remember always renting a videogame and trying to beat it in five days. I always loved looking at the movie box art and trying to judge how good the movie was going to be off of the art
Great video, Johnny! Very mystical and especially magical.
I love video rental stores. They have a fun atmosphere and are a great place to explore movies. I worked at one when I was 16 and 17. Now, that feels like it was a privilege.
Favorite memory: When working at a video store, I was able to get access to watch movies early before they released, get free posters and eat all the candy I wanted while working. Absolutely glorious days and ones I believe can and should be kept alive for future generations.
Great memories, thanks the nostalgia blast from the other side of the planet. cheers mate
Loved the cinematic style and editing of this video! Keep up the good work John!
my man, seeing that naked gun box in the background really brought me back. I remember seeing that all the time in my blockbuster as a kid always wondering wth this movie was about until i saw it years later as a teen.
I am feeling like a kid again👌👌👌👌👌
I remember going to the Hollywood video/Game crazy every Saturday, my sister and I each got to choose 1 movie. I'd always get LOTR The Two Towers and a pack of extra butterd popcorn. Nostalgic video John
This might be your best video yet!
