Yeah i go detecting, my mates think i'm weird cos all i've dug up so far is junk, but who knows what might come up next. You know every bit of land has been there for thousands of years, who's walked over it before, who's tripped up or fallen or been larking about and dropped something ? nobody knows. If you don't try you'll never do anything.
I've just started metal detecting myself :) As a female I thought I'd find some comments coming but no everyone's supportive fortunately. Think they're just glad to get me out of the house tbh lol
The ending is so funny, This is sooo like the BBC Detectorists. The actors delivery, the music, the script. An artificial hip 😅Mackenzie Crook must have seen this.
Is it possible MacKenzie Crook saw this film short and used it as the basis for his BBC series that ran for three seasons? They really have the same type of vibe, music, etc.
It is difficult to believe that BBC neglected to google "Detectorists" before going public. For me it was the second hit on google. Not sure about the legal situation but i would be getting some free legal advice. All the best to you!
as mentioned to my grandkids who live in france years ago over 400,000 fr and brit troops marched across the land opposite where they live surely somebody dropped something let alone the romans befor them or perhaps a fight had taken place ? u never know .
Great short - well worth the watch. People may associate the film with the tv series - but how else would you do a film about detectorists other than like the Office .... ha ...
Just because another artist created something on the same topic doesn't mean they used their idea...how may movies and tv shows have been made about mobsters, or cops, or other occupations. Also, this is a documentary, and Mr. Crook's series is a fiction about two friends, their lives and relationships, amidst their hobby. He discusses that here, and also that he's been working on the idea since the 1990's. ua-cam.com/video/obw8lfm0E0M/v-deo.html
@@cathrynclark5759 I don't think Carla meant to imply that the poster infringed on Crooks copyrighted material. She just simply asked if he acknowledged it. I took it as Crook would have enjoyed it. Just because it contains the word detectorist, don't make the leap that she is criticizing it and horning in on Crooks ideas. Rethink your reply.
Henry Wise thanks! It was recorded on an old SQN 5s mixer using a Micron 700 radio mic with a Sony ECM 77 lavalier mic, along with an old school Senheisser MKH416 shot gun mic. The mixer was cabled direct into the back of the camera, an old Sony DSR 450 DVCAM camera with J11 zoom lens which was borrowed from ITV Anglia for the weekend, so proper old school TV ENG set up.
It would have been better if the detectorist actor actually knew something about detecting, like how to swing, how to dig a hole, how to fill in holes, and how to take away junk as per the Code of Ethics. But yes, amusing, we are all nerdy TW@TS.
Given there is a TV series called ‘The Detectorist (3rd series out in the new year )unless you get permission from the owners of the series maybe you should avoid being sued and change the name of your film.
Hi JAMES Rivis, Given that we shot this film in 2008 and it had its first public film festival screening in 2009, I think we are pretty safe from any legal action given that the first series of the excellent BBC comedy series aired in 2014, several years after this video was uploaded to UA-cam even.
Given that this film The Detectorist and the series Detectorists don't even share the same name? Similar subject, different films; kind of like The Aviator vs The Aviators perhaps?
***** Not too bad. I'm not into metal detecting but I was watching the new BBC comedy - Detectorists which led me here. I must say it's brilliant, well worth a watch :).
***** Give it time LOL. Reckon you might find an old 'Party Seven' one day - remember them :D? Yeah I would think if you see someone find a nice piece of jewellery or a coin it would miff you a bit but I'm sure it equals out...I hope!
Where's the short bloke with the yellow Triumph TR7?

@@angeloddrev Doubtful, not if there is washing up to do. Just kidding. Good luck.
I like the dectorist very much. Hopefully they making more series. Miss it.

He says that the idea fro the show was written down many years ago in a note book and he came across it years later. But who knows
"i would walk the loamy earth, climb thru the briers and brambles
i will be your hero..."
there is no justice. pint? 😉
4 years before the program .
Did you see University Challenge last night?
Right then off to the pub? Wonderful video👍
By the way! The gear they are using are toys!
What's with the wide coil swings?
Mackenzie Crook owes you a pound or two
well........I enjoyed the video. Thank you much for sharing
Is this Winterton/Winterton Ness? Certainly looks like it. Beautiful part of the world. Love the film too.
matt payne Thanks! It's Caister, not far from Winterton.
Hello mate ...what a. Great video ! Down to earth and realy like it !
Wow this is such an original idea, shame you couldn't have written a whole tv series about it first :(
HA HA HA !, thoroughly enjoyed this. Well done !
Location location location and patience.

Has Mackenzie Crook acknowledged this short film?

even if he didn’t it’s uncannily like Crooks show which I love. The acting style, the quiet moments and the script is hilarious. Love the ending
@@glamourdazeshorts This was uploaded 12 years ago... It preceded Detectorists by a while
I really like the script and style this is filmed in, found it funny as well. Also what did you use to record the audio on this?
Henry Wise thanks! It was recorded on an old SQN 5s mixer using a Micron 700 radio mic with a Sony ECM 77 lavalier mic, along with an old school Senheisser MKH416 shot gun mic. Jonathan Blagrove thanks very much!
Bom dia amigo chegando pra deixar aquele like
'Wot yuu gotta?'
Why didn't the actors at least watch some Utube footage of how to swing the damned thing. Couldn't find anything amusing about the whole thing!
Relic Hunter that was the point, he was using crap, doing it wrong, and calling others amateurs.
Thanks. Was laughing
Mate, what unit were you in ?
Thanks for this - absolutely hilarious!
Great LOL!
Excellent video, how do feel about your theme getting ripped off?
I started in 73 when people had no clue what I was doing. If you don't do the research, you'll just be picking up chump change.
Whats the most valued piece youve found?
This guys got nothing on Lance and Andy
dont worry mate i got the humour.very funny short.
sorry for leaving that sign there for you, but someone had to tell you.....:-P
It made me laugh, very funny. But, I Can’t help feel that someone has borrowed your idea!

so whta was first trigger happy tv or this, because if mackenzie crook owes you a few pounds then you may owe dom jolly a few pounds.
Must try harder.
It’s painful watching this (you know)

This film came out four years before Series One of Detectorists. You can't sue people for coming up with something before you.
Hahahahaha! classic!

TWAT
ok how was this a comedy.......i did not see the humor
Wow, some serious plagiarism going on...somewhere.

Not sure what is going on here but even the backing music is similar. 2009 is a lot earlier than the first series of the Detectorists. Great idea
